  1. Hi All,

I'm considering dusting off my DoK soon and bolstering my force somewhat as currently I only have:

    3x Witch Hags
    1x Hag Queen on cauldron
    1x Bloodwrack Shrine
    2x Avatar of Khaine
    1x Bloodwrack medusa
    Morathi

    10x Witch Aelves (dual knife)
10x Sisters of Slaughter (Whip & shield)
    10x Blood sisters
    5x Doomfire warlocks

I really like the idea of going snake heavy rather than hordes of witches and my local meta is a mix of casual to casual-competetive. I think the toughest list I've seen in our group so far is Idoneth Eel based but with a leviodon and eidolan, so pretty tough but not super optimised. Anyway I know blood sisters are a good bet, I'm also thinking Khinarae with javelins for a fast flyer who can threaten backline heroes and maybe a unit of whip/knife sisters of slaughter to try out. I've considered looking into the temple nest batallion for the extra command point and relic but I'm unsure if it would be worth the blood stalker tax. That being said I do love the models for blood stalkers so may get some anyway, how terrible are they in more casual environments or can their alright melee stats and shooting make them nice for holding objectives?

I haven't really played DoK since AoS1 so no idea whether they've changed much or if people have found more fun playstyles besides mobbing witches or snakes with witch brew and mindrazor?

    If we don’t I’m sure you’ll convert some ;)

definitely getting that warband- even if I don’t really use 2 khemists I prefer that model to the original. The extra volley gun I can make good use of as well.

Considering warband costs it'll be a more cost efficient way of me getting a khemist. And more arkanauts for my mixed squads.

Also don't tempt me to make anyore weird conversions...

Kharadrons might be in with a better chance of new units than fyreslayers though, if nothing else than because of their popularity.  Most likely just a new hero like the Skaven/ FEC box set but you never know.

We can hope! I'd mostly just like to see the admiral and endrinmaster get more killy as i doubt we'll get new models since we already have a good range but never lose hope!

Will be interesting to see how the new shadespire warband look in AoS. It's at least a nice new khemist sculpt.

True, I guess filling out the base is the goalpost. I was thinking of a model train wagon base and building around that; servohauler atop it with a platform for the rider above that, then fill out the rest with bits/dwarf miners, etc. Basically a Steamtank version of this. 'No clue what the source is unfortunately.

Sounds like a great idea :) would love to see it happen!

How big is the servohauler compared to a steamtank? I know they're pretty big with a 120x92 base. Based conversion as always :3

Cheers! Unfortunately I don't have a steamtank to compare. The servohauler is definitely smaller and thinner than the tank would be which is why it has the armiger body as the turret. Generally as long as the base size is correct and it's at least tall enough you should be okay.

I wouldn't recommend the servohauler bits I used on their own though as I used the small section however if you can have it pulling along a carriage or something with a turret on that'd probably work very nicely. The kit itself comes with lots of cool bits if you want the more industrial mechanical feel.

    Found this on Instagram.

I might see about putting a few more armor bits on mine though, but the Kairics aren't wearing much to begin with so it's still quite close. Kairic boxes have 20 models and Witch Aelves have 10 so with just 1 extra box you could maybe make a full half of them female.

Oh wow that's amazing!! I'm gonna have to try that sometime.

    get a bigger pot

    (BIG POT PIC)

10 = real squishy, imo only useable to grab uncovered objectives

    20 = ok, if courtier(s) nearby

30/40 = lots of dice to roll ;)

Brb buying 70 billion pots of GW grey & white to drybrush my scheme with that pot.

Those all sound like terrible options! ;) But I have 30 made and figure I should use them because apparently 3 terrorghiests and a zombie dragon can't take objectives (obviously the rules were written by losers who don't understand that monsters are way cooler than puny people)

I might need to get a dice shaker for all those ghoul attacks.

    (PIC BRUSH PIC)

Nah tried that, can't fit it in the paintpot :(

Also if I wanted to take some ghouls in gristlegore to have some objective grabbers / something that isn't just a monster would I need to have exactly 40 per unit and courtiers to make use of them? I figure that if you can gear them up with super attack amounts surely even a unit of 10 could have uses? Or is it way to squishy to be of use that low?

  9. Congrats man! You are living my dream.

I too hope one day to have a fully painted army. Though my issue is technically less of a time one and more of a motivation issue... and the fact I keep hopping between projects *sigh* Tbh I'd settle for a fully painted 1k army at the moment... I'm very terrible at this whole finishing projects thing ;) Even my mordheim warbands never get finished.

Anyway  best of luck in future painting endeavours! I look forward to seeing pictures and one day hope to join you in the painting hall of fame that only those with at least 1 finished 2000 point army can join. ;)

  10. I for one am very excited. But then again I am also a chaos fan so the chaos only aspect doesn't put me off. But yeah it definitely feels very necromunda gang, with them all being variants of the same kinda race (imperial humans for necromunda, chaos humans for warcry) of course hopefully like necromunda they'll have more added and hopefully a bit quicker (a year long release for all 6 of necromundas gangs really killed the drive for it at my club)

I'm interested to see more of the factions, so far it's seem to shown a beast-like clan similar to the darkoath we already have, a gladiator style clan and lots of chaos gribblies. Hopefully it won't be too long till more news. But I could wait release date wise... gotta buy theatre tickets next month so can't have GW throwing more expensive starter sets at me and critical hitting my wallet ;)

I'm gonna predict starter set will likely be 2 10 man warbands, either 2d board like necromunda or a couple of 3d ruins like kill team. And probably priced around £95ish

Looking forward to seeing more clans definitely, the serpent symbol intrigues me greatly. Possibly a sneaky poison clan?

  11. So my 1500 point list consisting of:

    2x Archregent

    1x Gk on TG

    1x royal TG

    1x royal ZD

    10x ghouls

Did very well against my opponents spiderfang. He had 3 big spiders (one with a shaman) a boss on smaller spider which managed to do 20 morral wounds in one go with his poison against poor Terrance the terrorgheist who only had 4 wounds left. And 2x10 spider riders and 1x5 spider riders.

Our scenario was the one with 4 objectives (one in your zone, 2 middle etc) and i managed to win with 22 or so VP to his 5. We both made some mistakes ajd forgot things as we're new to our armies which could have cost him the game. He'd mostly deployed on one side so I rushed up my TG's to slam his spiders hard and stop them getting past and as such was able to capture 3 objectives turn one after summoning flayers.

Against goblins the screams were pretty good, even if my poor dice rolling hurt. Flayers also proved nice at killing his little boss in melee with some lucky sixes and my ghoul king going first always helped me as well as rerolling my maw attacks got me some nasty 6's and ate a big spider. I forgot about our feeding frenzy command ability until toward the end unfortunately which would have helped more earlier.

I found TG's aren't as tough as I'd hoped but were able to stall him enough to get me objective points. Their big bases are nice between terrain for blocking it. I do think in most games I'd prefer horrors as they're very punchy. All in all feels like a good core start, will just have to work out how to progress to 2k. Maybe with a 3rd terrorgheist ;)

Looks good, not sure about the ghouls, 10+2.Archregent add up to the same points and ghouls and gives you more options (imo, still waiting for the book)...

    strategy is key

the spiders can be superbuffed to mortal spam, use your mobility to avert his alpha and then retaliate with concentrated devastation. 30 riders are 60 wounds and one 1CP denies battleshock... so triple Monster charge, scream, puke and then rolfstomp, if he charges you, poor nasties are dead meat

    Cheers!

Only issue being I only have 1 archregent unfortunately so potential option is 2 units of 10 ghouls and have 2 kings on terrogheists for summoning? Though they don't get the free summons. I'll have a look around and see if I have something I can proxy for now to test out the 2 archregents before picking up a second on ebay or finding a nice third party model to rep it.

    • Haha 1
  13. So I'm going to be having a 1500 point game against some spider focused gloomspite on Wednesday and in order to test out some Gristlegore fun (and not need to build too many extra models) I'm considering the following list:

    GKoTG - 400
    General
    Abhorrent Archregent - 200

    Terrorgheist - 300
    Battleline
    Zombie Dragon - 300
    Battleline
    30 Crypt Ghouls - 300
    Battleline

    1500/1500

Now my idea is to have the ghoulie ghouls for any objective shenanigans or to just go and rush in with lots of attacks (or to screen if it ends up a much more killy focused game) but the main weight will be pulled by the monster mash, against grots the screams should do well. I'm thinking using my archregent and king to summon in some flayers/horrors (I'm probably gonna have 1 of each built by then) to bring in the extra power. I've not a huge idea how spiders play but they have poison that can mortal wound right? Any CC on the list would be welcome. I'm expecting lots of spider riders and maybe 2 arachnarocks? Not too sure on what he has.

    It begins!

    IMG_20190217_225205715.jpg

I have to say the purple and blue really go nicely together on that! I'd suggest putting an agrax earthshade wash over that to add some quick shading and really bring it together. But it's definitely a nice, and very different, colour scheme! Hope you enjoy the army :)

    • LOVE IT! 1
  15. Anyone got any tips for converting a ghoul king into an archregent so I can have an 'archregent on terrorgheist' for my general as dislike the idea of a king being general if archregent is around.

Also need to look at a way to royal up my terrorgheists a bit more. @JackStreicher any pics of those armour plates on terrorgheists?

  16. Well flayers definitely seem better but the -2  does make me wince a bit. We'll generally need to roll rather high to get any mortal wounds outside of melee unless vs skaven. And the summoning command abilities don't have a once per battle wording which is nice for the throne.

I really really hope they change Flayer to more standard hit/wound.

Its very strong against some armies and absolutely useless against some others.

For example, my friend plays order skinks. My 53pt flayer needs to roll a 10 on a single D6 to kill 1x 6pt skink. I would have trouble on 2D6, let alone having any chance on a D6.

The two things i hope they do are change flayer screams, and give horrors rend.

I definitely agree on the flayers either that or change it to 2d6 vs bravery and dealing 1d3 mortal wounds regardless of how much you beat it by. That way they still get the bravery hitting mechanic but damage is more well rounded and not relying on fighting specific units like skaven or beastmen to have any effect.

  18. Both terrorgheist and zombie dragon battleline eh? Sorry ghoul king, looks like you'll be on foot.

Man I'm liking gristlegore more and more. Though having to buy, paint and transport more terrorgheists/zombie dragons is a painful thought. I'm gonna need some like supersized boxes.

At least I can use the terrorgheist and dragon I have to avoid needing 3 units of 30 ghouls though. And fitting in monsters will be easier. I'm very very interested to see more. And looking forward to see how our summoning command abilities might change. I get the feeling we could be really thirsting for command points. Hopefully there'll be some fun battalions :)

I recently dealt around 15 MW with 6 flayers screaming in one turn!

It was with a grim garland though

    ...

    against giant rats

    ...

Tbh if there were skaven players in my area I would likely appreciate flayers much more  That being said my dad does play BoC... and their bravery is notoriously low too...

Still it would be nice for them to be able to affect bravery 7 stuff (the most common bravery I find) and maybe do a set d3 when above instead of difference.

    1 minute ago, Thenord said:

I totally feel you on this one. When I first read we could get the big guy as battleline I almost cried of joy. But having to paint 3 more seems like a real uphill battle. I've yet to see a quick, easy (and good looking) way to paint them..

Yeah it's something I'd love to be able to do but I haven't even finished my 1 for my vampires/ghoul kings to sit atop. Too much picking out bones and add to that I hate painting wing webbing. I'm really hoping someone can make a viable list out of lots of dragons though as I'd love to see it work well, if only just to show armies without 70 bajillion models can do well. Also because a heavy dragon army just sounds awesome.

I'm lucky that my colour scheme is just spray fang, drybrush grey, drybrush white, pick out details for my FeC but ye gods I'm gonna cry from all this painting I've got to do. So we'd best hope the new tome gives them fun tricks and playstyles to make it all worth it ;) (and give me a reason to get out my terrorgheist since I never use it in LoN)
