  1. So I'm currently doing a little project on making some high elves with some 3d print models I want an excuse to use and doing some conversions and getting use out of lumineth bits as I love some of their models and aesthetic but are far more likely to utilise them in ToW than AoS.

Anyway I'm currently trying to get an idea for which units are really worth looking at as the high elves seem quite different to the bretonnians or chaos that I've played games with. I'm assuming it's best to feature a variety of the different specialist units in lists rather than going heavy on one particular route. In terms of princes/nobles, I was thinking a nagarythe theme might fit what I'm going for but I'm not sure how worth their particular virtue is considering it loses the ability to utilise mounts. I'm not sure if the heroes will hold up too well as foot units.

I have a vague notion of re-basing my many Slaves to Darkness units (currently seeing very little use as Hedonites coalition troops) and starting an Old World army.

Was flicking through a friend's Ravening Hordes book.... is there no Warshrine in the list? Nor Hellstriders? That's dispiriting. Do we assume they're going to find a place in the Arcane thingy book when it comes along?

Thats very much what I've been doing tbf. I don't see myself playing S2D in aos anymore.

Now I just need to find ways to kitbash some flails.

  3. I don't know enough about WHFB lore to do lots of these but my stuff I would like and some stuff i reckon:

    Wood elves:

-Sisters of twilight, i just love the idea of two sassy sisters flying around hecking stuff up.

    Warriors of chaos:

-I would go with Valkia since she has such an easily attainable model. But there's the whole AoS/Old World competetive selling debate.

-Possibly the old chaos troll king that they did as a made to order before, could be good for the more norsca-ey theme (if hes even born at this point)

    Empire:

-I'd expect fresh new characters like they did with two of the Brett ones.

    Tomb kings:

-Khalida would make sense and is a pretty great model

They've got Furious Charge, so great weapons and a relatively large unit to soak up casualties feel like the most sensible option (even with the Blessing, they're pretty squishy!). Apart from that, run them in a Errantry War list, or as Exiles with the Vanguard banner to guarantee they get that charge?

Yeah I was thinking of making 20 of them. I have 2 boxes so was planning 20 GW, 10 S/S (because I like the models) who can always sit in the back rows as extra GW boys and girls in a pinch and then use the spare 10 bodies for conversions and such.

I also kinda wish we had a few options of great weapons without the second hand molded on so I could use them for grail knight conversions but that should be a fairly easy fix anyway. Also using the upper torsos on KotR legs shouldn't be too hard a conversion.

  5. I'm also curious to see how people have been running / theorycrafting foot knights as the models are -gorgeous-. My thoughts are using them with great weapons as I'm not sure there's much need for them being an anvil with sword and shield when yeoman guard/men at arms blobs are so cheap.

One thing I have discovered during my game with brets I had vs goblins was that a baron on royal pegasus with the exiles magic axe and gromril helm is an absolute beast in combat. She really ran rampant through some units and I had the good fun of doing enough overkill during a challenge that she managed to make an entire unit of orcs and their warboss flee and get run down...

I have a bunch unbuilt one as I think WoC will be my second Old World army after Bretts.

Rough plan (based on the kits I have) is:

    • Lord on demonic mount or Deamon Prince (using the lord from the christmas box or the old Throgg respectifly)
    • 10 Knights
    • 10 Chosen
    • 20 Warriors
    • 1 Chariot
    • 1 Giant
    • 3 Oger/dradon oger or troll or some such (using the Ogorid scupls from the Christmas box)

I then have some AoS1 starter khorne themed stuff, I think enough for a BSB, foot lord, 5 more warriors/chosen and 10 maruders

I also use my ogroids as chaos Ogres.

Yeah I think thats a good shout using the blood secrator as a BSB, it'll definitely stand out. I'd say you definitely have enough models to make a proper sized list. With the newer chaos stuff though you may need to do some alterations to make them rank up. For knights especially I had to trim the cloak and armswap the unit champion to make him rank up well on the 30x60mm

  7. Hey fellow marauders, chosen, and forsaken! Since we now have an old world sub forum It seems appropriate for a topic about the true rulers of the old world. The chaos gods!!

Has anyone gotten games in with our wonderful warriors or are you still in the theory crafting and painting stages?

I managed to have a game against dwarves yesterday and I've found our roster to be interesting at least. I mostly ran chaos warriors with some chosen knights, ogres, a demon prince, exalted champion, and exalted sorcerer. I think we can have some really fun magic and I definitely like daemonology for us. I'm glad I gave all my heroes favoured by chaos even if my champion did reroll a 1 into a 1.

One thing I found was it felt like whilst my DP was very tough she really lacked solid damage having only the ap-1 from ensorcelled weapon, though granted she did end up getting stuck going into iron breakers. Some of our main issues I found were the slowness of the warriors and the high cost of the units meaning losing a unit really hurt in terms of VP's. Does anyone have any units they're finding to prove quite useful or like the look of?

I will say though I did enjoy my game and like that our basic infantry have some really nice stat lines that help them keep alive and do some damage as well. Even if I kept forgetting half my extra rules...

Highland miniatures on etsy is your answer for anything Bretonna. The Gallia line is what you are looking for. Its pretty much a 1 for 1 copy of most of the old Bretonna units.

Its all resin, but the price and quality are really really good. Pretty much got one of everything from the line and have no regrets.

Are the rider and mount separate? I want to be able to like replace the lance with an axe etc and that looks tough if its all printed together.

  9. Not sure if this is the right place to ask but does anyone have any recommendations for kitbashing a bretonnian Hippogryph? Especially now that we know its a 50mm base.

Ive got a spare victrix african war elephant since im turning one into elephant artillery for my border prince bombard. Would an elephant with wings work for my hippogryph (elephogryph)? Or would that look a bit too goofy?

Interestingly i was looking at the GW website to try and choose between a general or wizard lord on big griffon (advice welcome) and all the Dwarves and Dark Elves are currently sold out for soooome reason lol

I believe the wizard lord and general on griffon are both in the same kit together. It's different head and rider options. (Also whichever one you go with you can probably build the other as a foot option if you sort some legs). As for which to go for in lists... magnetise the head and riders so you don't have to choose? ;)

This is the second time I hear people talking about taking multiples of the Command Squad. I think there is something to be said for it. 3d3 healing doesn't sound like much, but I remember the Legions of Nagash days where you would frequently stack a lot of incidental d3 heals into a unit. If you get them "for free" without having to cast a spell or give a command, those little heals are actually really impactful over the course of a game.

After sitting down and really looking at the command squad, their wounds and damage output are actually quite good for their points. You can definitely get away with treating them as a front line unit instead of a pure support thing that needs to be screened and protected.

Interesting thought, they're an odd unit but odd in a good way as they seem to have a few different ways you can utilise them. I might try out running 2 squads to hang with my main front lines and add some damage whilst keeping them alive.  Being able to stack that healing on a unit can really add up over the game definitely. Could be very interesting combined with the 4+ rally from the manticore lady but thats also a ton of points and probably not needed.

The Marshall on Griffon is a really strong choice for general. You can kit him out to be tanky and fighty with the Sigmarite Warhammer artefact and Grizzled Veteran trait. Double Roar, double orders, counter charge over screens... Lots of benefits here, I would say absolutely worth the points.

I think you can run him alongside Tahlia no problem. They are about equally fighty, too. If I was running a cavalry heavy list, they are probably the two heroes I would start with.

Cav heavy is my ideal so that sounds great :) Thanks! Is there a particular consensus yet on which weapon is best for the marshall? They each seem to have pros and cons so im not too sure myself on which would be preferable. Im not too keen on the lance as I like to be able to pack a punch even when I don't charge!

  13. Out of curiosity how feasible do people think running a marshall griffon and Tahlia could be? Thinking having the two big threats to run around terrorizing stuff could be fun but I'm also not sure if they're considered deadly enough to warrant the cost in the list. I generally prefer running smaller model count lists but don't want to be too janky.

  14. Continuing the techhy chamon theme I had with my fusilier kitbashes I have now made some cavaliers from the 40k rough rider kit with some sallet helm style headswaps (but keeping the cool mongolian style hats) The kit itself feels like it translates pretty nicely over to AoS for that more realm of metal feel as the horses themselves dont have anything tooo out of place really.

Don't worry, GW are planning to complete thier legal action suing the makers of Battlestar Galactica for copyright infringement before they expand their totally unique IP of resurrecting space cyborgs with croissant  space ships into the mortal realms... 🤣

As long as they don't venture into croissant dragons else nintendo will jump right on them! And not even GW will outlawyer nintendo 🤣

(Referring to Mega Salamence for those not familiar with pokemon)

my cup runneth over bittersweetly... Ionus looks great and his og model was one of the first I bought for AOS. However, a box with 2 dragons overlaps too much with the Thunderstrike Christmas box to justify the expense 😭

Very glad to see a RETURNING AOS CHARACTER though for sure, great decision up and down. looking forward to seeing the reforging story move forward a bit.

I'm tempted depending on box price since I don't yet have any dragons... though not too sure if I'm that fussed about Ionus but he could always be a fun base for a conversion.

There was a lot of talk about Stormcast being AoS Space Marines back in the day, but as they lose more and more of themselves with each reforging, they’re starting to sound a lot more like AoS Necrons to me 🤓

If stormcast end up getting shooty murder pyramids or croissant ships then I'm calling the police...

Wondering how this frozen list might fare next game?  Yhetees are still intriguing me for some reason.  Guess I'm always looking for stuff that nobody really sees on the table....but that could be for a good reason(s)?  Not quite sure of the other particulars yet.  Allegiance: Ogor Mawtribes

Have you had a chance to test this? I've been wanting to play around with Yhetees myself but never had a chance.

And do you find the thundertusk to be particularly useful? I know that for the most part people have often preferred the double stonehorn.
