Those are better minis, yes, but there’s zero chance that GW would ever take that approach. Where would the profit be? Better to sell minis they’ve already put the design effort into and get that market, however small, for relatively low effort.

Also more generally, while TOW is fundamentally not for me, I don’t think there’s much benefit in canvassing hardcore AoS players or AoS-centric social media to see if they’re going to pick any of this up.

My main concern is that they'll look at sales and deem it unprofitable, then effectively abandon it again.

When the real reason sales are low is because they're trying to sell ugly, 30 year old kits for inflated prices.

In the whats app groups that I am the main talk is that it is going to be overpriced and no one would buy it. Literally no one said they would and I am part of a CoS, FEC, Wiki and YT channel groups.

I think at this point, they may as well just make rules and lore and allow third party sellers at their events.

They've spent five years effectively just producing a copy/paste rulebook, rather than using that time to refresh their miniature range.

The tomb kings from Highland/Lost Sword are head and shoulders above these for a fraction of the cost.

GW is a publicly traded company, no single individual holds the power to sign off on such a deal.

If it was any other company I'd agree, but knowing firsthand the weird corporate culture at GW HQ, I'm more inclined to believe these rumours.

That's a little worrying, not gonna lie. They weren't even an especially old warband.

Makes me wonder if they're just going to stop making underworlds as a game. From what I gather, it doesn't have an especially large playerbase, and loads of the warbands aren't sold anymore.

Baharroth phoenix lord maybe, if 40k.

Or else new stormcast prosecutors, if AoS.

Don't really follow 40k rumours, but new baharroth is apparently teased by Valrak.

  6. AoS - in its current iteration - is the best GW game I've ever played, and I've been closely involved in the hobby since 1993.

AoS is fast, fun and full of cinematic moments. The miniatures are gorgeous and the armies are fairly well balanced. The community is warm and positive.

Some people still have strong feelings about AoS, based on the negativity surrounding the end times, coupled with the lack of rules structure in AoS 1.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't think a lot of those people were around at the time. So perhaps their opinions are just inherited from the 'common wisdom' with very little critical thought involved.

Regardless, how they see AoS doesn't impinge on my own enjoyment of the game. Honestly, it's not worth being drawn into arguments about it.

Let them miss out on a great experience because of their ignorance.

Hopefully Dawnbringers 4 will be similar to Reign of Brute for Death,  lots of juicy units, maybe a 2nd wave for OBR

Would love to be wrong, but I think if there was more in book iv we would have seen it in the preview, given that it's likely out in the next month.

I guess sigmar could happen but I wouldn't be happy about it haha, sigmar is the one character that really can never be killed off so it'd feel weird to see him getting stabbed to death by goblins or something

Fairly easy to have him be sent back to azyr, in the same way as stormcast.

Speculation has been all over the map.  Personally I'm hoping for a Katakros style diorama / royal procession type kit.  If it's a single model then I doubt he'd be smaller than, say, Radukar the Beast.

I think back in June when they started teasing dawnbringers through posters, they had one about the summer king.

The art accompanying it was basically just a ghoul king on terrorgheist.

I wonder if ushoran is basically just that, but much bigger.

I don't like him (to say the least), but to be fair it's not entirely his fault - the whole early Stormcast line should be forgotten ASAP. As for his release date... he is worse then many WHFB End Times models and after him we quickly get stuff based on similar concept that makes him look like some design mistake.

I used the void dragon for my prime. I definitely think the official model needs to be a bit more Thor Ragnarok

I think there's a difference between GW making a balanced game and GW making a competitive wargame. I'm all for the former but I'd rather GW not lean on the competitive aspect too hard. I don't have the chance to play loads and don't really enjoy playing against super competitive players so I'd rather that didn't become the norm.

I think there's a big difference between a competitive player and a competitive format.

The game is fundamentally in the latter category by definition - there are winners and losers.

That said, I've yet to encounter a person so competitive they were unpleasant to play against.

At the last GT I went to, I played against two players who are ranked in the top 10 in the country. They were perfectly lovely human beings, and the games were lighthearted and full of banter.

There were several moments where units may have just been out range, where my opponent gave me the benefit of the doubt. And allowed me to take back my move after they explained what their units did in combat.

I got absolutely thrashed, tabled in the second or third turns, but the atmosphere was always pleasant and afterwards we had a chat about what decisions I could have made to have the game go another way.

This game is a social experience, and even at the highest competitive end of the game, you have a duty to your opponent to ensure they have a good time. I think that's the attitude that makes the AoS competitive community so great, (especially compared to 40k!)

The majority of people playing are intensely casual about it

This sounds reasonable, but I'd have to disagree. The people who play majority of time outside of events are actually more hardcore.

The best players are invariably the ones who have got 'reps' in with an army. They play weekly, at a gaming club.

They might not do events, but through regular gaming, they have honed their skills as a general and in the majority of cases are better players.

Then you have someone like my mates who are all middle-aged with families, who meet up once a month at a pub for a three game tournament.

We are 'competitive event players' but most of us are ******, because we don't play as often as we should. But neither do we berate other people, or else make them feel bad, for playing units that are the most points efficient choices in their respective books.

All I'm saying is that people who play the game with any degree of regularity, whether that's at events or clubs, do in fact care about unit choices and list building.

GW should recognise that people do play their game, and perhaps at times it might be worthwhile recognising that in tailored bundles like these battleforces.
