(600) Rounds it off to 10.010 points now, with several thousands more on the "to do pile"
  2. I've got to say, Grand Alliance: Death sure as hell has evolved rapidly over the course of a year...
  3. That front squig knight almost looks like he could be a stand-in for a warbos on a squig... He looks almost too ornate to be a mere unit champion.
  4. My nighthaunt are massively more stable by using slate pieces on the bases of the models. Some in our gaming group also use metal washers glued inside the base for extra stability.
  5. So the painting setup is almost completed in that room. My girlfriend also got me the black coach as a Christmas gift! I love the model, but I hate how much of a frontal overhang it has for gaming purposes. So I'm attempting to get it as far back as possible. I made quite a few subassemblies (all the wooden parts of the carriage , the horses and ofc the ghosts are kept separate), allowing me to get a good indication of where the model will be on that big slab of a base. So I filled a lot of the emptiness with my usual rocks and quite a few gravesite stones. The only part that was glued to the base at the start, is the ethereal bit that supports the main carriage bit. I wanted that as far back as possible for minimal front overhang. Here's a few shots of the subassemblies so far.
  6. I can't quite place the silhouette of the banner and model at the bottom left corner during the terrain showcase either... Any ideas?
  7. Well, after DoK, deepkin, nighthaunt and now these new models, GW really is taking AoS to the next dimension. They are just the right mix of loony, crazy but still vicious in a way. I'm sure people with a lot of gitmob won't like it, but I think they might be going EoL. They just (as a company) cannot keep stocking an old and a new range I think.
  8. Don't be discouraged by that too much. At the end of the day, the miniature designers literally managed to turn a single model (design wise): the Cairn Wraith into a fully fledged faction that only really had a handful of other models to go with them. So I could see them redesigning the ogres in a way where they massively expand the firebelly faction to fight alongside the gutbusters.
  9. So, the StD box is called the "Godsworn warband" and the new shadespire warband is the "Godsworn hunt". I'm guessing there might be a Godsworn battletome underway that combined Slaves to Darkness and the new Darkoath model line, rather than one replacing the other. Bringing out a christmass box for a faction that you plan to replace seems incredibly silly.
  10. Slightly later then expected, but I also think it'll be here in less than three months. This also means I might be dead wrong about Slaanesh begin the winter release, like all the other chaos stuff. That's not a bad thing, destruction needs that book more tbh.
  11. This has nothing to do with painting itself, but I did just get a new place, and this room is going to be made into the mancave dedicated to wargaming. There's still a crapton of work that needs doing, but it is a nice basement room of 40-ish m² to turn into a dedicated AoS/40k space. I think for the next few months, the only painting I'll be doing, won't be done with a size 1 brush.
  12. I don't like the scenic bases though. It's annoying for those of use who already have undead models and now have to get extra blank bases for them. But to each their own.
  13. Yeah, and lots of ppl said only the black coach was going to get a new model right before the biggest new model range yet released for Nighthaunt, so I wouldn't be too down about that...
  14. Almost done with the endless spells now!
  15. Yeah, the top of the black coach model can be taken off to showcase the coffin inside (that can be opened as well, although this was just using gravity. But yeah, 'eavy metal never paints plastic models... Those molds aren't done yet when they need to be painted (for box art, battletomes etc), so they make them out of grown resin. Makes sense really, but they are never the end product and don't tend to fit as seamlessly as the plastic end products. Also, when those resin models are made, most of the staff gets to have a look at them as well... That's why a lot of leaks have these "vague descriptions" like chtulu elves for instance. The whole production process takes YEARS, so you are fooling yourself if you think any of it is done i a rushed way. In fact, Jes Goodwin had a right laugh when I asked him honestly if plastic sisters were really coming because of public demand... It's been in the works for way longer than that, the marketing can just capitalize on the meme now. BTW, I'm not sure if you are following any of the twitch stream stuff, but think about what the community members are currently collecting. Ceri --> happens to have a fondness of nighthaunt, painting up a lot of them, and a nighthaunt battletome came recently. Rhu --> big fan of Brayherds, making a big army of them, just around the time that battletome is getting dropped. Diarmuid --> currently expanding his big grot army, almost suspiciously close to a rumoured grot battletome release. These people have all seen those 3D prints well in advance, but can't give anything away because of GW marketting reasons.
  16. These models done by 'eavy metal aren't the final plastic models though. They are "grown resin" models (think 3D-printed) that require a lot of work by the team like filing and gap filling. They are also done years in advance of release. I was able to have a nice chat with the eavy metal team in Dusseldorf and got some hands on time with the original black coach model. They actually used some blue tac to keep parts of it together too... Doesn't matter, as they are just used for a photo shoot, not for any gaming. Somebody did drop the ball hard on that one though. I can imagine this particular model would be a nightmare if it was made from grown resin however.
  17. I don't know about the first part: few entries. Looks like a very solid amount of unit entries compared to many other battletomes out there now. It's not going to be the largest, but above average in term of unit entries for sure. I'm not sure about how old the miniature range is exactly. But most of it is from 6th edition warhammer? So they can't be more than a decade old. I'm not sure what the rules team made of it, but a melee army more aimed around stealth and ambush tactics could sound like fun.
  18. Tbh, this looks more like a "Legions of Nagsh treatment" (besides the scenery/spells), rather than a "Daughters of Khaine treatment". Which isn't a bad thing, A lot of the beastman/monster range holds up quite well (just like most of the LoN models, they aren't catastrophically old like grots/greenskins).
  19. Reikenor the Grimhailer is ready to dispense Nagash's justice! Also... Because my ghosts need a villain: a start on the sacrosanct chamber:
  20. I'm very well aware of how GW doesn't want to show anything too soon... I was however hoping to see a bit more of one of the flagship games for an event that actually has a pretty steep price tag on it (compared to lots of other wargame conventions around here). The last version in the UK had a good balance between AoS (with the soulwars release), adeptus titanicus, imperial knights, blood bowl,... previews. Now, it's completely focused on the scifi side of GW, with 2 tiny little teasers for anything AoS related. When they charge €30 euro plus parking fee for an event, it would actually be nice if it's slightly more balanced, even if it means looking a bit further into the future. They even have previews of sisters of battle stuff that aren't even coming in a year from now, so I'm not sure how well that argument holds up. I'll see what it's like tomorrow. Looking at GD will be cool, hopefully I can have a fun chat with one of the designers and painters of GW, but in the future, I really do hope they balance things out better. I'd be equally annoyed if I were a 40k fan and didn't get to see any new model because all the models being showed were AoS.
  21. I'm not too looking forward to the the next few weeks for AoS. I actually do plan on going tomorrow to Warhammer Fest, but the fact that it was 95% 40k universe stuff was putting me off. So I asked about this being worthwhile as an AoS fan first and this is the response: Is it admitting that almost no AoS stuff is on the horizon anytime soon? Just shadespire and whatever that one picture of an endless spell is? Doesn't even look like I'll be able to see the thing in the flesh tomorrow, so it's all put a bit of a negative spin on what was supposed to be a fun day out.
  22. Oh, the matt medium should work just fine. A bit of thinning with water might be in order, but you'll see... A slightly thicker wash is what I aim for.
  23. The rust is done by hand and a very easy process too: It's a basecoat of leadbelcher, a wash of army painter dark tone (agrax will do just as well), then a mix of matt varnish mixed with vallejo rust pigments (essentially a wash that dries in a "powdery way". A final highlight of steel or silver is then applied, and some micro scratches if I want it to look slightly more fancy.
  24. Work still continues on the endless spells: I'll do my best to get proper pictures soon, but my other vice (World of Warcraft) has a new expansion dropping tonight, so I'm going into a typical binge gaming session...
  25. I used vallejo model colours Grey blue and pale Grey blue. Both thinned down with vallejo airbrush thinner and applied in a zenithal airbrush layer.
