Lots of items are no longer available on the GW site, do you think this is just reboxing or is there more to it than that?

(grots, dispossesd, hexwraiths, graveguard, slaanesh, plaguebearers)

I think that's just GW focusing their casting on 40K and the new sculpts at the moment, to the point of other models taking the back seat- Dark Imperium is selling massively.

Assuming that's real, the "2017" naming makes me think that this will be a point tweak and FAQ integration update rather than a 2nd edition of AoS. Which is what I've though before, but this shores up my thoughts on the matter.

BUT! It states in french 'Le Generals Handbook présente des nouveaux styles de jeux..."

Which means, "The Generals Handbook present the new wayS/styles of playing..." which would hint at more than just points.

That said, I don't think the image looks very official. The weird white backlighting, the image that the book is superimposed upon is not very flattering etc etc. Doesn't really look like the right design that GW has been using lately.

EDIT: Ah, just saw all the posts after the one I was answering as well as the one linking to an english version to the same image. The whole picture looks very official, and text says what I just listed, just ignore my post. I'll creep back into the shadows in shame.....

    AOS skirmish anyone?

yesterday there was a game of Skirmish on Warhammer Live. How come no one is debating this? I didn't see the episode so I am pretty eager to hear about it. Rules, previews, thoughts and rumors. Who got some?

I was thinking the same! What's up with that??

    2 hours ago, RuneBrush said:

It's not until next week - they're broadcasting from London this weekend instead of any games this week.

    DOH!

  5. So....  These are all comments from GW's go to writer Josh Reynold's ask.fm page where readers write questions about the lore and upcoming events in books and tomes and he tries to answer to the best of his knowledge and honoring any contract clauses he has...

So first of all, grot sky pirates, he mentioned them already five months ago as a faction he'd like to invent from new... What's the reason we're suddenly seeing them pop up in different places?? - Just him having a lark, or did he drop off a hint on his ask.fm five months ago??

Also there's some stuff on Stormcast Eternals and what happens if they turn.... bad... And very strong hints about coming books or tomes about this. Is this a reference to that whole Nagash is envious of Sigmar thing, and is something on the way on the Death side or something similar?

Am I clawing at rumor mongering straws?.... YES!

    Here goes:

If you were given leeway to make an AoS faction from new cloth, what would you like to see new from the setting?

JR: Urgh. Either a new human faction - not Sigmarites or a Bretonnian rehash, something more akin to Dogs of War, with special units from a variety of cultures - or Gargants. Just lots of Gargants. Different sorts of Gargants.

    Or, y'know, Grot sky-pirates.

If Sigmar is taking the freewill of people to choose to become a stormcast eternal or not. Don't you think that is evil? He is not giving them a choice.

JR: Is he taking their free will, or is he choosing people who've already made that choice, on some level? Do your wishes matter, when it comes to a cosmic war, fought in the name of sentient life everywhere? If your only other option is death (or worse), is it really a choice at all? Are you just a pawn, in the games of the gods, or do your choices matter in some ineffable way?

It's almost as if there's a narrative arc, of sorts, to this whole Stormcast thing, isn't there? Almost as if it might be building to something. Or not. Who knows? Not me. I'm just a guy working on a per-contract basis.

What happens to the heroes that don't want to become stormcast eternals when Sigmar takes them?

JR: That's an interesting question. I wonder if someone will start writing a book about that, among other things, in, say, 3-4 months.

How will Sigmar deal with his stormcast eternals becoming a bunch of lobotomized automatons?

    JR: Wait and see.

In terms of making your own heroes.

One thing I was considering for my own 'skirmish' style game which was closer to Mordheim was some kind of profile combination.

Your race would have base stats for Wounds, Save, Movement, Bravery. But would have modifier stats for attacks, hit, wound, rend and damage.

Armour would either impose a special rule,  stat modifiers or both.

Weapons would generally have their own weapon profile agnostic of who is wielding them.

So the following might make sense:

Human (Chaos or Order variants) - Wounds: 1 Save 6+ Movement: 5" Bravery 5 No modifiers

Stormcast - Wounds: 2 Save 5+ Movement 5" Bravery 6 +1 to hit with melee weapons, +1 to hit with ranged weapons, +1 attack with melee weapons

Chaos Warrior - Wounds 2, Save 5+, Movement 5", Bravery 6, +1 to hit with melee weapons, +1 attack with melee weapons

Orruk - Wounds: 2, Save 6+, Movement 5", Bravery 4, -1 to hit with ranged weapons, +1 rend with melee weapons

Aelf - Wounds: 1, Save 6+, Movement: 6", Bravery 6, +1 to hit with melee weapons, +1 to hit with ranged weapons

Duardin - Wounds 1, Save 5+, Movement 4", Bravery 6, +1 to hit with melee weapons

Armour - +1 to your armour save characteristic

Heavy Armour - +2 to your armour save

Stormcast Paladin Armour - +2 armour save, -1 movement (Stormcast Only)

    Shield - Re-roll 1's to save

    Bow Hit Attack 1,  4+, Wound 4+, Rend -, Damage 1

    Unarmed Attack 1, Hit 5+, Wound 5+, Rend +1, Damage 1

    Sword Attack 1, Hit 4+, Wound 4+, Rend -, Damage 1

    Axe Attack 1, Hit 5+, Wound 4+, Rend -1, Damage 1

    Hammer Attack 1, Hit 5+, Wound 3+, Rend -, Damage 1

    Dagger Attack 1, Hit 5+, Wound 5+, Rend -, Damage 1

So an Orruk profile with a Bow, Sword (Choppa) and Armour merged together would have the following warscroll:

    Wounds: 2, Armour Save: 5+, Bravery 4, Movement 5"

    Bow Attack 1, Hit 5+, Wound 4+, Rend -, Damage 1

    Sword Attack 1, Hit 4+, Wound 4+, Rend -1, Damage 1

Looks pretty much like an Orruk right? (Maybe a pretty boring and plain Orruk who doesn't have any special rules at this time).

I like it because it gives you more stats to play around with. More stats means you can do more interesting things with skills. And at the end of the day, this always results in a warscroll that can be used in game. You can upgrade your weaponry (or change weaponry), as you just need to re-combine your character profile with your new equipment profiles.

Also, the above stats are more for your regular mobs. You could create heroic profiles, but I actually think a more fun and interesting way is to allow heroes to get access to a certain number of upgrades. You could even go full DnD style, roll for a X upgrades, and pick Y of them.

I also like this idea, of a base stat, as I think it opens the AOS components up for more of a roleplaying experience in line with mordheim, since you could customize your gang more, and this would remove the feeling of fighting against brotherly clones, if you met a war band from the same faction as your own.

But.... You forgot to mention baseline stats for my faction: the dead.. Zombies would just be cheaper and worse versions of humans I'd guess. Ghosts would be anti rend...

  7. "That's right folks - skirmish sized battles are coming to the Mortal Realms.
This expansion will make use of the existing range of Warhammer Age of Sigmar minitures, and will be a way to play games with just a handful of miniatures, or with part of a new army as you build towards a larger force.

    Intrigued?
We'll have more news for you soon..."

  8. the text says

"Warriors fight for treasures and glory in the land of the dead"....

    EDIT:

"Warriors fight for treasures and glory in the MORTAL REALMS"

MIND YOU! My translating skills are not fantastic, german is not my first language either. And sterblichen can -SHOULD- also be translated as mortals. So mortal realms is probably better... editing.

In danish -that I translated to before further on to english, the word mortals is made up of the same core as death. i.e.. DØD: death and Dødelig : mortal.

For it to be BIG news, it'd have to be 8th edition 40k release date, or maybe GHB2 release date but that doesn't seem like HUGE news, just good timing because of SCGT which is an AOS only (I think?) event.  So GHB2 seems likely, maybe something like a revamped set of rules?  Basically a new edition, not just GHB2?  I mean, GHB2 isn't really "huge" news is it?

No pink (or was it blue, I forgot) days this month as I've heard in the local store, though there are some pink (?) days coming in july or june (don't remember which) so I very much doubt it'd be the big'un (40K 8th edition) today.... Probably tome or rules.

Odd as it sounds, I expect this to be the 'technical' Death subfaction, like Dwarves being the 'technical' sub-faction of Order and Skaven being the 'technical' sub-faction of Chaos.

Source: Slaves to Darkness, 4th edition Undead, Liber Necris and many more.

    Cheers,

Hmm, I don't know if I think thats the way it'll go, but it's as good a guess as any other, and you have some valid points.

I love those nineties images by the way. Full of character! Also, I have to say, I would love a somewhat clunky mechanical zombie sub-faction. Could be so much fun, kind of like skaven -just talentless off course! Scavengers of machinery. I'd buy into that. Well see!

BoK Death is unlikely to happen because as mentioned I can tell you that there is a lot of model changes comming up to Death. Aside from models I'm fairly certain that as we speak GW is still working up much more content for Ghouls, Vampires, Skelletons, Werewolves and Death Spirits, I wouldn't even exclude a Frankenstein being at this point.

So now that we're back at rumor mongering -!- I'd have to ask you to clarify this bit of information? Did you pull it out of your behind as a hunch (don't mean no disrespect) or do you have a line directly to Kevin D. Rountree?

Why is it, we should take what you mentioned at face value (and believe me I want to!)....

    I want werewolves!

Soooooooo, any rumours on any death stuff?

Unless GHB2 brings allegiance abilities and artefacts for the smaller allegiances; it might be time to try 40k, and not pick the army which receives no updates.

It leaves a bit of a sour taste; if we can do something like blades of khorne, a re-tooled grand alliance death book would work an absolute treat at the moment, but it appears it'll be 40k all the way now

I don't wan't to rock this boat even more, as I see how some people think we're complaining a bit too much but....... You could always jump on the Armageddon: Shadow War wagon, and buy a 10 man kill team for that until GW comes around to some GA:DEATH updates..

I did! Planning on playing campaigns in my local store as well as at home. Should be fun! -Though I still plan on playing my soulblight kill team-army in AOS, and just hold off on buying new models until something happens there...

Screaming Skull Catapults + Arkhan boosting the range of mortal wound causing spells? I don't play Death, but I don't see how they're any worse equipped to snipe 5 wound heroes than any other grand alliance or popular faction.

One horde is all buffed up to kill and gets bonuses for killing. The other horde is all buffed up to survive (plus some extra attacks) and gets bonuses for that = grind.

  14. 1 hour ago, swarmofseals said:

It's funny because I had the complete opposite reaction. Khorne has so many great buffers, and Death has no way to target them effectively. It seems like a bad matchup already, and these new rules provide a panoply of bonuses that didn't exist before (not just blood tithe but better artefacts, battalion bonuses, straight up buffed warscrolls, priest abilities, etc.)

If you're implying that death is severely hindered by the fact that it is the/one of the factions most in need of a new battle tome, I would definitely agree.

But looking at how it seems it was meant to be played and the general gist of it; regenerating units and buffed ward saves giving you a 1/3 chance of saving any wounds, I would definitely say that it seem it would be a natural negation to a khorne army out for blood. That's how I think Death was meant to be played, and that's how I think you could play death already- though I agree that the more time that passes without that sorely needed battle tome, the harder it will get, as other factions, khorne, get new battle tomes and new ways to play that make them better. -This is not me complaining, as I fully expect this to be rectified, and am hoping GW has decided to spam us with battle tomes. (i.e. every second to third month or so)

But once we get that tome, and even now, throwing units of 60 zombies or 40 skeletons with with kings banner plus ward save plus regen and closing down khorne maneuverability through numbers (and merging summoned units) seems like a good way to throw a spanner into the khorne blood tithe mechanic needing killed units to gain extras. I think death and khorne will make for strategic games of slow grind.

  15. 6 hours ago, swarmofseals said:

Yeah, these abilities look extremely powerful. That Council of Blood battalion is crazy good too (point cost depending, of course). Factoring in the buffed warscrolls too, Khorne is going to be terrifying. The priest abilities pretty much remove the disadvantage of not having access to spells either!

I can see how Death could be a hard opponent for Khorne as Blood Tithe needs the Khorne player to eradicate units to give bonuses - Death with their ward save and regenerating units could actually be a viable answer to lock them down.

"Skywardens.... just as proficient at dealing with aerial harkrakens as they are with ragtag fleets of grotbag scuttlers and daemonic shoals of screamers of Tzeentch."

Could very well only show shadespire still. relased pic of the box says 'core set' so they could show later sets and editions which are in the pipeline.... but I think there'll be more as well... just saying.

    Voodoo Zombie Cult

thid is somewhat like a genestealer cult

A great spirit known as a Kongo Loa had infected a town, taking over a charismatic individual and moulding them to their image. The Kongo loa has started a cult of death worshipping mortals who believe in the power of the spirits and that becoming a zombie allows them to commune with the spirits of their ancestors, gaining power.

Beneath the Kongo Loa leader are

Voodoo Priests who use voodoo dolls to damage and rebuff heroes as well as unbind

Bokor darkmagicians who channels the energy of the spirits to create power spells and illusions.

city guard who have been dragged into the cult

Supplicants crazed mortal dancers who attack with a flurry of blows. Quite weak but At any point in the battle supplicants can be converted to voodoo zombies

Voodoo zombies a very very slow but very hard to shift unit.

death dancers are a specialist infantry unit - great at hand to hand combat and very very fast but expensive. Death dancers can change in a battle to a loa spirit host whereby they lose some powers  but become harder to kill.

Cacophonists a unit of musicians who can buff nearby units to greater heights of frenzy while debugging enemy units due to the confusion caused by their music

    A Los spirit host

Okay, sorry, don't want to hijack your army idea. But you pushed my button, guess which one that is? Also, no critique meant in this post, just inspiration, hope it comes across as this as well:

Okay, Fun idea (but a minefield)! Seeing as you've actually researched some of the real names for inspiration (bokor et al) why not go the whole way ?

Vodou has several pantheons (Petwo fiery and aggressive, rada family and healing etc etc), and instead of using kongo as your death faction, which is a little off seeing as kongo is a  semi peaceful and colourful pantheon in vodou. Why not the call them the Gede alternatively spelled Guede, the proper death faction in vodou?

They could be led by the family of Barons that lead the real one. Baron Samedi (Baron saturday) you know the guy in old fashioned mortuary suit with tophat big boss of the dead. Also Maman Brigitte (Mother Bridget) and Baron La Croix (Baron the Cross), Baron Cimitiére (Baron Graveyard) the protector of the graveyards and the only guede/kongo/petro crossover Baron Kriminel the feisty fiery devil of the gang (and also maybe the most scary of them all) -name says it all.

Also the gede, though they can be scary sometimes, are not evil far from it, which is nice from a fluffy point of view. I tire of the evil/good dichotomy of some of the races in warhammer. Every faction should have some kind of entry point for the player to be able to identify with it. Baron Samedi both takes and gives being the key holder to death, but he's also a powerful healer and loves especially kids, protects them like all the gede do. This opens up for human followers further than the houngan/bokor type. Maybe the children in the town were infected by some sickness and everyone started offering to the Baron for help? He helped them. In return its his town. Everyones happy. Loads of cult members.

And why not have possessed? Those are your troops with inhuman powers and no thought of themselves. And drumbeaters, kind of like the ironjawz war chanters to keep the possessions going and giving +1 to hit and an extra save  or something.

This would definitely be a magic heavy list with all those vodou priests: houngan and mambo (male and female vodou priest working with traditional vodou -usually) and bokors working with the left hand dark magic curses, zombies and all, as well as the gangan - traditional leaf healer.

In haitian vodou they also have loupgarou -werewolves and many other weres- actually, weredogs werecrocodiles, werecows you name it, - so why not go for these as well. Maybe the cows would be a bit off! They'd definitely be under the bokors. Theres the secret societies also, which mete out justice, when this is needed. Groups of magicians, leaders of the communities, meeting in the dead of night to hold mock trials, sometimes ending in punishment of taking away the perpetrators soul (zombification) and the like. Again, they are not bad, they only meet when judgement is needed -and everyone knows the sigmarines should be judged by others than the inhuman god Sigmar! maybe styled somewhat like the 40k inquisition? Stealthy judgement is the vibe I get of those, knowing next to nothing of 40k.

Of course, you already have inspiration for the colors as the gede and the Barons primary colors are purple and black, with the followers of gede having flour blown onto their faces to emulate the white skin of the dead, somewhat like orruk warpaint. They also wear hats and sunglasses with only one eye having glass in it (as they have an eye in both the worlds of the living and the dead) and smoke copious amounts of cigarettes. Often two-three-four-five cigarettes in their mouths at the same time! Bad ass. Top hats! Baron Kriminels colors are RED.

Ah, sorry, for the rant. Just some ideas for your fantasy faction. I'd probably go for something else myself. :) Thats a loaded subject!

I don't know, I don't think most death players (meaning me) are gonna give up the game, only on the faction when the next release turns out to be chutlhu themed shadow elves and start collecting those instead.

After that first month has passed assembling and painting dark elves, and the new death battle tome suddenly comes out, we're going to slink back to Death filled with shame and a yicky taste in our mouths. Any way gw is happy; more sales both ways (no 'money grabber' critique meant here).

Chutulhu themed shadow elves!  Thats cool!
