A bunch of weird GW choices imho.

Yup but we've got 4th edition soon and we aren't privy to the thinking about how the studio is run when it comes to this, so I don't think we will ever know.

All I know is that I need to work out how I'm going to watch the preview and I think it will be either lunchtime tomorrow or in the evening. 😭

Bonesplitterz rumour was not originated by players, it is a problem that GW has created by himself removing them from the competitive game and ghosting them. We have examples like you didn't get a prize playing them on Worlds and they don't appear in Metawatch since months.

I think that issue was a combination of the data they were getting, people weren't playing them as much and they have probably already shifted to 4th edition at the time and it's difficult to support two systems without getting confused (yes I know there are ways round it but I also know how focus changes with projects!)

If they genuinely scrap beasts then I’d also wonder about scrapping dark elves and dwarves from cities and maybe all the finecast ogor models - just clean house of legacy models - which to be honest it’s probably now time to do.

If I was to guess, I'd say it would be to retire the models to go off and do stuff in The Old World. If they were going to do anything with Beasts, it would probably be new range.

I dunno - I find it very hard to believe they would squat an entire army this late into the game. I mean sure, it happened with Chorfs in end of 2nd but I don't think they received any support if I'm not mistaken.

The difference at that time, a lot of the armies were still free warscrolls and GW weren't supporting Chaos Dwarfs as they were a Forgeworld range. The 2nd edition moved the game into more of what we see today after the early days of where there wasn't much of a framework apart from just use the models you like. But I 100% agree I don't think Beasts will go. Just get redesigned.

Do you think GW will update the lore in the core book ? (Factions/characters)

Typically they do but not sure how much detail it will go into. Should be enough to give a good idea about what has been happening though

So well, at first glance this leak was big, but to be honest it showed us exactly nothing. Not a single model, nor Skaven confirmation.

    Well it's confirmed we're getting a 4th edition :D

I know most people have guessed it's happening but it does confirm it's coming

I also appreciate it was a discussion in the "meta" but I despise the obsession with it. You don't see them giving reviews of narrative forces or events half as much :(

    My two pence

I know the GW studio have a lot of focus on competitive style gaming in the past as that is what a lot of people wanted. Discounting the tournament scene, people just want to be able to bring an army that is vaguely matching in size and ability to their opponent without too much arrangement of things. They tried the narrative route with 1st edition of AOS which lead to 'Mo Comp' to give a framework of how to have forces of roughly the same size. This lead to GW moving back to points but evolving the system into what we have now.

I suspect we will see a more balanced approach to AOS in the new edition and may see a more narrative focus but I have no idea what this will look like. The problem in my opinion with narrative is that it's tough to sell things for it as you tend to be focused on a few factions and have to produce a lot of material. This also means you don't sell as many things as the target audience will be smaller. Maybe they will do softback books like the Osprey history books where they focus on a period or battle. Maybe stuff will appear in White Dwarf. I have no idea but that's what I would do.

  7. I know this has been discussed in the main original topic but thought I would ask the question as we will have new people looking at this and wondering (and I'm quite curious myself).

What is the ideal unit size for 2000 points?

I know the answer depends on what the unit is but it's just to start the discussion. I've not had any games yet as busy with Warmaster but from what I've read of the rules, the sizes I'm thinking about are around 18 to 24 in a 6 x 3 or 6 x 4 formation depending on unit size. This is a rough thought and took a lot of effort to forget about the big unit sizes of the previous edition.

So what are you running or thinking about?

Ok, so, the tau codex has been leaked (not gonna pass it here until there's a reddit post)

    please don't ;)

    4 minutes ago, Garrac said:

-They've taken out ALL the resin. Firesight, Aun'Va, even vespids, which are suposed to have a refresh via KT, have been eliminated from the codex

So, skaven players should expect the same andn ot be surprised when they discover that ALL of the resin/metal on the webstore stops being sold whitout a proper substitution.

I think this is what GW have been doing for a while. It's a combination of keeping things easy for customers and probably easier for them to mass produce. Resin will be kept for smaller rangers or things you will need less of. Going back to 40K, will be interesting with Adeptus Custodes about resin as it makes up a big chunk of variety for the range.

It's a completely different thing - more of a build up to the new edition. It will be announced towards the end of March and will start in April. It's going to be exclusive to Warhammer Stores and the idea is to paint AoS models, play AoS games, promote Narrative Play so as to generate excitement for the new edition.

Just checking is that an assumption or something you've been told by anybody :D

That makes sense if we are getting a nice reveal at Adepticon! Now I'm starting to struggle with picking up some Clanrats!

  9. This is a quick information stickie about what is Warhammer: The Old World (aka The Old World or TOW) and how to get into it. This should present most of the information you need to get into the game as well.

    What is it?

The Old World is the latest version of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, which is a game by Games Workshop that has you as the General of an army of rank and file units, set in a Fantasy world which is known as The Old World. It's classed as a 'Historical' game as the old world was destroyed in an event know as 'The End Times'. The Deities, Souls and magic that made the world ended up as the Mortal Realms where Age of Sigmar is set (Age of Sigmar is classed as the 'current' period).

    Why should I play it?

If you like the idea of seeing two armies set in a fantasy world facing each other in rank and file units, this is the game for you.

What do I need to play?

To play a game, you will need the following:

    • A copy of the Rules
    • An army
    • Dice and Tape measure
    • A board to play on (typically 4' x 6' board)
    • An opponent with an army

You can get the rules from Games Workshop or any good stockists (maybe check out the advert banner above?). The rules are available as a separate rule book or within an army box. At time of writing there are only two army boxes - Bretonnians and Tomb Kings. There are also army books with the forces of Evil - The Ravening Hordes (Orcs and Goblins, Beastmen, Tomb Kings, and Warriors of Chaos) vs the forces of Good - Forces of Fantasy (The Empire, Bretonnia, High Elves, Wood Elves and Dwarfs). Other armies are available but they are currently classed as Legacy and available from the GW downloads page (Note - most players are fine with Legacy armies being used, but if you play at an official GW event you can't use them as they aren't supported).

Also to add, but the Downloads page also contains the FAQ and guides to working with metal and resin - https://www.warhammer-community.com/the-old-world-downloads/

    Anything Else?

Just explore the rule book, pick models you like the look of and play some games. Oh and have fun

Honestly I think GW would know that this box would sell better than Dominion because unlike Kruleboyz, who were a new concept and kind of a weird direction for Orruks so they didn't really know how well they'd sell, Skaven are extremely popular, are probably one of the few non-40k things people know about Warhammer thanks to both online memes and games like TWW II and Vermintide, and also there will be people wanting Skaven for ToW to consider.

I think the Kruleboyz are amazing models. I love the look of them. However, I HATE the ones from the Dominion/Starter sets as they seem to be quite fiddly to assemble (might be my age).

I wouldn't thought that Skaven were so popular, but if they are, I just hope GW can meet the expectations considering all their production issues.

    100%

GW need to sort out the production issues and hopefully they are on their way to doing that.

Btw, Im gonna clearify Im going to talk about this box as Vermintide, but it may end up getting another name.

    Hope it's Vermintide tho.

I was going to say it probably won't due to Fat Shark having the trademark but then I remembered it's a licence from GW so they own it! I think it's unlikely though to remove any confusion with the game. (would be really cool though!!!)

I supose then we'll know in 2 days if there'll be AoS at all, because there's still a chance that Adepticon is dedicated 100% to 40k again

I mean, it's not something I expect, but something I'm also prepared for, just in case

I think there will be a fair chunk of 40K if the rumours at moment are true (Blood Angels and Krieg!) and with the Amazon TV shows appearing later this year, I wouldn't be surprised.

However, it's highly likely it's 4th edition of Age of Sigmar this year. We've seen the Skaven weapon team leak which will mean we will see a full reveal or a teaser. I'm not aware of any other events between Adepticon and June/July apart from UK Games Expo and I don't think they will show anything new off there. I was at one about 7 years ago when the Primaris were first shown off and I don't think they did anything special outside of the seminars apart from a web reveal.

So there is a good chance we will see something juicy. So have some faith in the Horned Rat (or quiver in fear as you should do!)

  13. Just to repeat this folks…

My advice is to write a constructive email to uk.custserv@gwplc.com and ask them about it. Say you would love to have an option to get one of these and explain where you are.

I'm sure if enough people write in and write in a constructive way (use common sense here please!!!), you can make them aware about the demand for such models.

Please email them. Enough demand will get them to do something (hopefully).

PS - let’s get back to rumours.

    Who?

is he a designer of some sort?

Yup, although in my experience any sort of lead tends to do less designing and more meetings (I say this from experience :( ). He's also a ex-Eavy metal painter and has been at GW for around 20 years. He's designed some amazing miniatures (like  Maugan Ra). He seems a nice bloke as well.

I'll have a look at his socials later if he is posting lots of Skaven stuff.

  15. +++ Mod Hat On +++

    Just an update for EVERYBODY.

TGA is a place for EVERYBODY, no matter your background, gender or race. We will not tolerate abusive behaviour towards anyone and there has been some comments made by @MitGas recently as well as in the past, which crosses the line.

They have been banned from using the site for a month.

I have also chosen not to remove the comments as I try not to do censorship and I want people to see what happens if you behave in this way.

TGA is for everybody BUT if you act in a way that is abusive towards anyone, we will react. This is a forum to discuss Warhammer and how much we enjoy it. Please keep it that way

    Thanks

@Gaz Taylor Or perhaps a petition backed back TGA would hold more sway than a few rando emails.

I've only ever gotten typical corpo bull💩 replies to an questions I've ever asked.

I don't think a petition would do much. Lots of people emailing "I want those models but it's difficult for me to get. Make it easier for me to buy them" will probably have more sway on a company selling stuff for a living ;)

It would be nice to open up to other countries even if it's just opening up orders online when it is no longer the exclusive model for that year. As pictures showed they have event minis from the past few years so looks like it could be possible to do.

Sometimes I grab stuff for a friend in Sweden. Think they only have 2 GW stores in the whole country and events with event minis aren't exactly ran there so sending stuff over to him is one of the only ways to get it outside of paying mad prices from scalpels

  18. Totally get the grumpiness around event miniatures and availability outside UK. My advice is to write a constructive email to uk.custserv@gwplc.com and ask them about it. Say you would love to have an option to get one of these and explain where you are.

More heavy boxes going to US. Might be 4th edition or might be something silly like Space Marine branded shampoo. Who knows? :D

PS it looks fine on my monitor, so squint a bit ;)
