Oh great, do you have a link for me...or the name of the shop. Was already looking around for an alternative.

I am in the Hague, so relatively close by, pick up is an option

    Edit: think I found it

Oh nice! De tafelridder its called.  It’s not much for AoS gaming sadly, but it’s a great store none the less.
their site is integrated with their stock sadly. So not everything shows. But shoot them an email and they order it.
for example they don’t stock the Warcry books (since they had to throw away a ton of 40k during the new edition). So they don’t show but they ordered them with 20% discount for me none the less.

but if you ever looking for a game in the area, give me a shout.
Was actually looking at the doubles tournament with a mate at the GW Den Haag last year. But couldn’t make it.

odge that uses a sapient volcano they make deals with so it forges them new weapons. More sentient fire realm entities like that mixed into their army beyon just the lore would be aces. :D

If that happens we’re going to end up with a white dwarf mini game ‘mountain melee’. Which pitches all mountain entities against eachother 😂

I won't hear anything bad on Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.  They're Ymetrica's team!  😋

Okay my bad. Then I won’t mention things like multiple bowstrings, big hats, resting butch face, more big hats, cow theme, pike length, big hats again, and hammers. ;)

Edit (just to add, personally I only dislike one of those things but there would be a lot of people would struggle in a yes/no poll if they like the aesthetic)

  4. Curious to see how it stacks up if you do a straight yes no poll if people like the lumineth aesthetic. As that is the only other straight reimagining without taking older models with it.

theycdo have that wider range. So I think it’s going to be a little better. But I know several old elf players who think they are slightly off. Just like some people seem to think about fyreslayers.

The only reason I could see myself getting a 3d printer would be for terrain and bases. I

Same here. With that I run less of a risk of it becoming outdated and ‘needing’ the latest.

And I would 100% do a themed terrain set every garage campaign we run 😍

I guess it's the same sort of thing done with Ironjawz, they took the basic Orcs and turned everything up, but those work to my eye (even if they could use more units/kits).

Hadn’t thought about that. But maybe that’s also because they incorporated some of the old world models (black orcs).
so you can see the clear progression.

maybe if the basic fyreslayer troops were old worlds slayers (regardless of that they are metal) you’d see more progression. Unadorned -> a few runes and small weapons -> big weapons big runes.

but that would make them the actual progression rather then the spiritual successor.

If they do not want to evoke reckless abandon, they should not name them "slayers", adopt the aesthetic of the old slayers (which they clearly are inspired by), and call them freaking berzerkers! I mean, c'mon! I read the lore in the battletome, which I had to go back to because your description sounded odd to me. They constantly refer to them as "hot tempered and impulsive", and about how the "dive into hordes of enemies".

The whole mercenary thing sounds shoe-horned to me, honestly.

Yeah I agree. They shouldn’t have named them slayers. Or made the a true slayers as in the old world. But that only works if they have an society to escape from. Which wasn’t there yet.

I like the mercenary bit if I’m honest. It’s a good way for them to interact with the world. Very pragmatic. If your whole society is build around war, then that’s the skill you have to trade.

but I disagree that being hot tempered, impulsive and diving into hordes of enemies clashes with how they treat them in the books. They can be all of those things and not have a death wish.

How can a berserker be motivated by greed: it does not work; berserker is about abandon, not caring, about the rage allowing the warrior to power through the wounds in trance like state. If the slayer just cares about gathering gold (for whatever reason), then the optimal strategy is NOT to be a berserker, but to stay alive to fight again and earn more gold. To be coherent, they should be assassins, not berserkers. In fact, given the goal, KO would make more sense. Old slayers worked because they wanted to die, it is silly but it makes sense. New slayers are illogical.

Just realised. If you read the stories with the bezerkers in them. You’d learn they have a different take.

the hearthguard bezerkers do not act like your description at all. They fight with their wits about them in the lore. They don’t have a death wish. They do ignore wounds but that’s because they are protected by the runes. Which they take to better be able to fight their enemies to win back the ur-gold.

The grim wrath bezerker does lose himself. Starts off as they all do. But they kinda get addicted to adding more ur-gold runes to their flesh. And up constantly on edge of sanity due to the runes influence. But even they ‘power down’ out side of battle. In all the stories I’ve read they are considered outcasts but heroes all the same. And they have their own motivations and goals.
they don’t have a death wish but they do have a thirst for battle because the runes power makes them feel closer to their god.

all in all. The only one with a death wish is the doomseeker. But that’s fairly obvious 😅. From memory he is the closest to old world slayers. Looking for an honourable death after a shameful act.
maybe bezerkers is more how the outside world sees them. Ignoring wounds that would fell a man. Always looking for battle. Thinking about it bezerker is a bit of a misnomer

  9. Fixed! Regarding the actual topic:

I like them. I painted 10 old Slayer models two years ago and they were some of the best and most fun models I painted the last five years.

But their oversized hands Heroic style doesnt' work within AoS anymore. So they need something new. And Fyreslayers does that for me.

But so does this and only when you field 2k of the little buggers does it become a problem. (but there weren't that many slayer sculpts either)  So yeah some new sculpts to break things up would be amazing.
But that's just me having my cake and wanting to eat it too. Can't complain.

It is your phone, I did post a picture of them! :)

But let me use this chance to say that I am well aware that this is my personal opinion and I do not claim that they are objectively ugly or anything like that. If you love them, more power to you! What prompted me to post this is other folks telling me that they are overall often voted as the least popular army.

on both phone and computer the image isn't working (the link 404's if I try to open it in a different tab)

  11. The easiest thing to AoS’ify zombies that I can think of is a mix of zombies from all the races. With bits and bobs on there from those factions.
skinny zombies with whip and knife with last few bits of king hair. Broad, hulking zombies with pieces of yellow armour nailed into their flesh. Small armoured zombies who hold a rifle like a club.

would make ‘copy right-able’ as well I think

kinda like the old mixed skeleton dogs of war unit.

Yeah but with a minimum month of lockdown, the earliest they could reopen could be even March and that means a lot of coins waiting for us... I get the point, but let’s be fair, doesn’t work in a pandemic and they should enable web stores at least in the countries where it is completely locked.

Not every country is in lockdown. I expect the shops to open back up in the Netherlands after the 19th for example.

I think it’s a nice way to get people back into the stores. It’s an promotion that runs all year, so even if the whole world is locked up till June. Roughly half the stores will have their birthday yet to come. There is a lot of value for GW to get people back into the stores

would be different if it was a mini you’d need for an army build.

being politely snide to one another during negotiations.

You better enter a few doubles tournaments and make this happen 😂

and when a TO complains that you are breaking the code of conduct you can say it’s just the narrative.
And that your uppity elf co-players is a bit full of himself just because his white robes aren’t covered in blood.

This would be fine, honestly. If they'd had another foot Liege that looked even 90% the same as this, the Ossiarch range would be better.

Yeah true. But I assume that if they have the resources to do an extra model. They would have done it I assume.
also if they had another I still maintain it would make the centrepiece retainer less cool.

but regarding the ossiarch one. Why not use him as a bad ass mortek guard champion ?

You raise a lot of good points. Maybe have them a bit like the Gobbapalooza in that they can act as independent heroes bought in one box, but also allow them to exist in one unit, and have both of these states reflected on the Warscroll. So the diorama would almost act like a Kharadron ship, and taking a model off removes the model permanently from the original warscroll (and X amount of wounds, attacks, and abilities), but allows you to use it as an independent model.

It'd be really tricky to write a warscroll for and to design detatchable models, but it'd allow for people to use the individual models on their own.

    Oh that would be cool!
still wouldn’t get around buying the whole thing if you only like one part. But if it’s kinda like a (former) Morathi thing where it’s part of the rules that would be cool.

That's the thing, this dude absolutely is cool enough to be on his own. Best model in the Ossiarch range to my mind. But does he actually have his own warscroll or worthwhile substitute, can you actually use him on his own without recourse to the DIY hero ruleset or your own work? Unfortunately not, unlike some older WHFB kits.

It's a minor thing but unfortunate and comes as a corollary of GW's models/rules design practices.

    g0x9dellvft51.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg

It was meant as a joke but my genuine response would be.

    what else can they do?
Give it rules but sell it only in the big box? You can guess the response yourself. Same happend with the cauldron of blood and the only reason it’s remotely okay is because it’s in a super useful start collecting. Glad they stopped doing that

give it rules and sell it separately? Maybe. But that makes the centrepiece less unique and would feel as a money grab as well

Making the minions less cool? Obviously not.

GW can’t win. For me it’s just an cool bit in a model. And as with all cool bits, just use it for a conversion 😁
