I'm so confused right now.

I think that allegiance unlocking battleline would be a good way to update factions that were released before they had the idea of allegiance abilities. For example, what if all you needed to do to get crypt horrors as battleline was run "pure" Flesh Eaters? I could also see limited access to expanded battleline. For example, what if there was a rule that allowed - in some circumstances - for a single unit of such-and-such to count as battleline? So you still need at least one (or more) units of the standard crummy boots on the ground, but it opens up a little more variety.

I don't think so at all. This is a Necron arm: I don't think they're similar at all. If it's 40k, it's Mechanicum, but I really don't think it's 40k. It looks like fantasy-tech to me.

Nah. Looks too much like AoSy arcanotech. I'm guessing its a prosthetic or a fantasy sort of servo-arm for Steamhead Duardin. Keys are a bit of a theme for the Fyreslayers, so...

I don't think it's mechanicus - the arm is way to inhuman and not techy enough. No exposed cables. Also, the way the hand is holding the keys is a little too stylized to feel 40kish. And I don't really think that the cog key is 1000% cog. It could be a dramatic and weird-looking key of any number of kinds. My money is on either a tzeentchy daemon or a skeleton (maybe a skeleton necromancer riffing off the corpsemaster on the mortis engine? Keys as a symbol of necromancy?). Probably the former, but I hope it's the latter.

I wouldn't mind the systems being merged, because it might be fun to see if my ghouls could take out space marines or if my seraphon could munch on eldar. And also because the 40k system is a huge bucket of mess right now, and I think it could do with an Age of Sigmar style refresh. But I don't want the worlds merged, not even a little bit.

Right. The real problem for some factions is that they are actually stubs, bits and pieces, not fully developed. Others are just small. For the former, though, the question is, does GW really care about them? Are they headed for a real book, or are they just "legacy plus," armies that represent rare but still extant formations in the Realms?

As someone who thinks that battleline is currently too restrictive for some armies (ie. Flesh Eaters only have ghouls), I'd like to affirm that I agree with this 100%. Battleline restrictions are an important way to make sure that the armies make sense from a background/setting perspective and they assist in balance. I just think that any army with only a single battleline option should get at least one more, maybe two.

Also, entirely aside, the cartoon portraits make all the women who work on Warhammer Community look really cute.

Mecha-dwarves are one of those things where although I don't think the faction will appeal to me (too much), I'm really glad they are going to exist, because I think they sound really cool and will add a lot to the game's style.

That better not be a thing. Because then I'll need to start a new army. Oh. Oooh! Every Grand Alliance should get sky pirates! Mortal sky privateers worshipping Sigmar! Orruk sky pirates riding flying squigs! Vampire sky pirates! Tzeentchian pirates "piloting" floating islands! And then they could do a sky pirates themed campaign...

I'm not sure I agree. My Flesh Eaters, for example, don't have much need for it. I've never felt like my ghoul king's spells needed extra range, and when I mount him up on a monster, I want him in the thick of things ripping it up, not perched on top of a skinny tower!
