    Greatings warriors of Old World,

the first models coming for Great Empire of Cathay are:

    Light infantry- spears and crossbows

    Heavy infantry- swords/halberds and shields

    Heavy and light cavalry

Hero - general riding longma horse

Special character-  One of the dragon children- similar kit to Morathi from AoS- human and dragon form

Special units:  Terracotta sentinel and Sky Lantern

This is a bit of a weird rumour. It's been well known for years that the specialist studio designed a range for Cathay to at least concept stage. It wouldn't suprise me if the full cad designs have been sitting around for a couple of years now.

    https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/09/14/watch-grand-cathay-come-to-life-in-an-epic-collaboration-for-total-war-warhammer-iii/

The article says they've even written the rules for the faction already.

The question is if and when GW will allocate the budget and the production window to turn this range into real models.

It certainly helps a lot, yeah.

Yeah probably, but there are some other details that are a good change. They're pretty similar to the Preators but the details look a lot finer. Thinner parchment, chainmail instead of scale mail, the cloak not covering the chest, the thinner chains instead of the rope. It all adds up to a more pleasing design that isn't swamped by all it's detail. images(1).jpeg.179f6a11c212ba637477201ebe5392de.jpegimage.png.c1d2b2c0d53f718fea8b7632ae26c1c1.png.172fc89d3563898934e531f82148822f.png

I noticed as well. Isn't it that the icon from the April's Fool city?

Yes it is. It's in the eastern part of the great parch so presumably it's going to be ground zero for the Skaven attack. I'm definitely curious to learn more about it and to see the map in full. It could be a cool location for the next season of warcry or the next Warhammer quest game.

  4. Absolutely love the unit. My dream for a starter set before we knew it was Stormcast was a box of humans with Stormcast allies. We didn't get that but this is definitely the next best thing. I never realistically thought we'd get regular mortals in a launch box. They've never done that with marines. I'm very excited to see the rest of the ruination chamber now. I'd to see something like the sisters of battle at Katherine box but instead of a reliquary. It's a mad Stormcast in chains who needs to be guided to the front lines by mortal priests before being unleashed.

I thought so initially, but it is not still. Or at least it doesn't look to be the same. The helmet doesn't have the same shape on the forehead and the mouth seems to be more covered.

It's the champion of the unit. You can see the shield on his back in both pictures.

  6. Interesting that none of them match this picture. The icons on his chest are switched. 42A20821-EE7D-42A3-A587-10915ED7DECB.jpeg.7690c7d09a4557d21301177f9bb3f14e.jpeg.4f3d685d03032dd22fec9d662cae51d9.jpeg

Is this a hero or another unit.

So far for the Stormcast side of the box we have:

    10 liberators

    3 reclusians with 2 helpers

    3 or 5 prosecutors

    1 lord vigilant on crow.

    1 cover star hero

1 or 3 pictured above. (Edit no it's the unit champion)

    Is that the full set?

Edit Still a couple of heroes to see then.

Edit the picture above is the champion flipped.

Just that. There's a rumour that the 4th edition would have twice the investment from GW as we had in the 3rd edition.

If it is true AoS could go to the next level.

I went and did a quick calculation.  Warcry and underworlds which had a similar number of products across 2nd and 3rd edition. So if you just look at the numbers of main game kits sold 3rd edition will end up with just over 100 kits. 2nd edition has about 120. On top of that 2nd edition had 2 boxes of endless spells 12 faction scenery kits and 15 sets of faction endless spells. In third we just got the one incarnate.

I have a theory that when COVID hit GW chose to focus on their core product, 40k. AoS unfortunately suffered as a result.

All that is to say that even returning to the level of investment AoS got in 2nd edition would be very welcome.

In this particular case I don't see a big difference between both, so I think it would be all based on the price for both games:

    SundayPreview Apr14 GobNightgoblins

    stabbas-zajadorez-gloomspite-gitz-warhammer-age-of-sigmar.jpg

I own 60 of those old night goblins and there is a massive difference. The newer are quite a bit smaller and the hands on the new kit are about a quarter of the size of the old ones. I remember loving the old kit when it first came out but now I wouldn't buy it for £5.

So you think that TOW stuff would speed up from now on?

No I’d expect a new old world pre-order  about every two months. Launch in January, Orcs and Gobilns in March, Dwarfs in May etc. Dwarfs coming out after 4th would mean the releases are slowing down considerably. We could see dwarfs switching places with kill team but that would make for a very short window between kill team releases.

  10. My prediction for Pre-Orders is:

April 20th Dawnbringers 6, Abraxia and Darkoath.

April 27th Tau or Chaos 40k

    May 4th Old World Dwarfs.

May 11th Tau or Chaos 40k

May 18th Kill Team and or Warcry

May 25th Left over old world and Legions Imperialis

June 1st Made to order only.

    June 8th AoS 4th.

I think there's some debate about the launch date. It's either launch on June 22nd or pre-order on June 22nd. The warscroll from the other day seems to back up the second theory. If that's true I could see warcry and Kill team getting their own week and another week of filler stuff. In any case, I'll be very surprised if we don't see the old world Dwarfs in May.

  11. I don't want to dismiss this rumour out of hand but there are too many things that don't line up. Since when did the GW studio care about the success of the video game?

Also I can't believe that anyone would know what the plans for the old world's distant future are but not know what the next release will be.

  12. I hope that Chaos Duardin keep the old look. I also hope that Nurgle, Ogors, Fyreslayers and Khorne get big updates next edition. If that happens I be able to focus on running a Skaven army without being tempted by any other factions. They can save Malerion to be my 5th edition army.

  13. I looked over the rules for the different subfactions in the current Stormcast battletome. They are all very bland and don't really represent the lore of the subfaction.  knights Excelsior lore- they see everything in black and white and have no qualms about killing the innocent if it serves their view of the greater good. Knights Excelsior rule- +1 to hit and wound on outnumbered paladins. The new rules don't seem any worse than what currently exists. As long as the lore about the different Stormhosts or Cities are still in the books, I'm completely ok with this change.

Also I definitely think there will be more formations than the 4 from the indexes. They need to have something to make you buy the book.

I mean, that seems pretty harsh to me. A generalisation for sure, but AoS folk seem way more chilled than 40K-ers.

GW tried it with AoS at one point, I think with the second edition Stormcast book but the whole community said no ******* way

I don't agree with you here. I like to get different warbands with different themes but let's say I want something similar to Necromunda because I would like a Witch Hunters warband that is expanded every time instead of getting that warband and then moving into something different.

I am requesting a game without playing the game, yes. Am I requesting a rules change directly? No, but my request could require the rules to change in order to make it possible. Is my request less valid because I didn't play the game? I don't think so.

If you're requesting a new game, no problem, but in this hypothetical situation you're potentially asking to make the game worse for those who enjoy the game in order to suit your tastes and you're doing that without even trying the game first.

To use a concrete example I was one of the people asking for Elden ring to have difficulty settings. Once I actually tried the game I realised that playing the game as a mage was relatively simple. I had been operating under a false assumption because I hadn't tried the game myself.

IMO not playing a game but wanting changes on a game is not necessarily a contradiction or would mean it is less valid than the opinion of someone who plays the game.

Part of the "community" of a game are those also that just read/ follow the lore or purely collect the minis. You could be interested in a shift of the game also because you would prefer a different lore or a different approach to the minis released, and IMO it would be as valid as wanting a change based on the rules/ gameplay.

I don't think that's the point that @Mr_Whateley is trying to make. If the actual playerbase is dissatisfied with the game, then that's a strong case for making a change, but if it's only people who don't play who want a change then it's a different question. It absolutely is less valid to want rules change if you haven't at least tried the game.

Personally I do play the game and don't want it changed dramatically. In fact I'm not sure what tweaks I'd want in a new edition aside from balance adjustments and new locations to play in.

Hastings was the one who reported first that Bretonnia and Tomb kings kits were back in production in june 2022 for the ToW launch.

Just wanted to say that while much of what you say may be true but  Hastings is not a reliable source. He was completely wrong about the contents of the launch boxes and also wrong about the orc and goblins release. I'm pretty sure he's a fake. GW started talking about Bretonnia in 2020. It was pretty obvious they'd lean on nostalgia for the cut factions.

  18. I'm pretty sure that Vince has met David Waeselynck who designed Kragnos. The brief was to make a centaur and I think he did a pretty good job of it. Whether the brief was a good choice is a different question. I think it was chosen on purpose to look nothing like any particular destruction race.

  19. The forward to victory ability will probably happen after rolls. Look at the spell on Nagash's scroll. The declare step includes the roll. I'm sure it will be the same with charging.

Covering fire and counter charge have obvious counter plays.

For counter charge, charge them first. Especially with Nagash, you don't want him charging your big monster so charge him first with chaff. He can't use hand of dust and he can't power through since he didn't charge.

For covering fire, fast moving low cost screens will be very valuable. Is that Ironclad going to give up a command point to shoot at that unit of aether wings at 5+ to hit when it could use all out attack to shoot at anything at 3+ in its own turn?

The magic ability is potentially the most worrying one. I hope wizards are only able to cast their total number of spells each battle round so if you choose to react you're giving up a spell in your own turn.

I like the rally change. Certainly still useful but nowhere near as strong as before. They also said it incorporates heroic recovery, so that means less total healing than before.

All in all some good powerful abilities but aside from maybe  the unleash spell ability,  they don't seem to be game breaking.

    Yeah. No.

This is exactly NOT what i wanted to read: more generic command abilities.

I am aware the more active parts of the community like them and am happy for everyone who does. Personal tastes and all.

But i find them a major PITA and only good for gotcha/npe moments. Double turn at least creates tention/chaos.

I will of course try it after release but chances i am going to skip playing yet another edition just increased significantly. :(

I admit I'm not a regular player but how are generic command abilities gotcha or npe?  They're abilities that are in the core rules which anyone can use and everyone will know about.

Rally seems the most powerful by far, counter charge is fun though, does this mean no more unleash hell?

Why do you think this. You're healing an average of 3 health and a maximum of 6. That's weaker than the recent faq change.

@Whitefang has me concerned for Mawtribes now. If we dont get a major range refresh in 4.0 thatll be 13 years of AOS with only 2 character minis and a terrain piece barring whatever single model they get if there is no refresh.

Id honestly leave AOS if they rid themselves of Ogors.

In the other thread @Nezzhil said Ogors are "very safe" next edition. They are occasionally a touch rumour mongery. They then posted the "hungry" post. I suspect they know something to do with Ogors.
