  1. I think people are looking at the situation slighty backwards. Currently there are 24 battletomes. Across 2nd edition there were 11 substantial (more than 3 kits) updates including 2 each for Slaanesh and Lumineth. Gw is unlikely to substantially increase the rate they put out updates especially with the current supply situation. If we allow one extra for covid that means third edition will have at most 12 miniature updates. Since AoS has started gw has put out about 1 all new book a year. That leaves 9 of the existing battletomes to get updates. So essentially two thirds of the current factions will not see a substantial update this edition. That doesn't mean those armies will get nothing. We will continue to see single heroes, underworlds or warcry warbands etc. All that is to say that a book with a radically changed format like the warclans allows gw to give new life to a faction without adding a lot of new units. When the warclans book was being planned gw were probably already aware of the plans for third edition at least as it applies to minis. Jes Goodwin said that they start concept work for a big boxed set up to 5 years in advance. It is entirely possible that gw knew there wouldn't be an update to the Ironjawz or Bonesplittas until third edition and so decided to do a combined book. We would all love for every faction to get a big update but in reality that simply isn't going to happen. If GW decides that now isn't the time for new KO or Fyreslayer kits, that's unfortunate but I think that a book that gives new ways to play those armies both individually and in combination is a positive move.
  2. It's not the same though. Fyreslayers are mercenaries who will work with anyone if it leads to urgold and the KO are the airline companies of the mortal Realms. If you are hunting all over the mortal Realms for urgold what better way to travel from place to place than in the ships of the KO. In the process they are bound to find a lot of regular gold which I'm sure the dispossessed would be happy to take off their hands. The IDK are isolationists and the Lumineth are to arrogant to work with anyone. Its not the same at all. If GW can put out a few dispossessed kits which can combine the Fyreslayer runes with the steampunk tech of the KO, as Tom mentioned on Warhammer weekly this week, I'd absolutely be down for a combined tome.
  3. It definitely looks like Grimdark are on the money again, though the cauldron looks smaller than I imagined.
  4. What about the eyes though? The eye on the left as we look at it looks natural. It almost looks like a real creature except for the maggot that suggests the tongue is decayed. It would also be quite a tongue piercing for someone to get. It does look like the centre of the mask has been edited out, maybe because it would have given the game away.
  5. It certainly looks interesting. We've got what looks like real eyes and a real tongue with a metal mask. With the way the tongue is pierced by metal it could be a trophy. If definitely feels like the centre of the image has been edited out. The article says check back tomorrow so hopefully we will get daily hints. A problem with the rumour engine is that it can be literally years till we see the full models . Knowing that these hints will be revealed in just a couple of weeks makes it much more enjoyable.
  6. I'm glad they decided to give the animation its own show. I'm curious about what they'll show but I'm not going to stay up until 2am local time to watch it live.
  7. I have a feeling that with 3rd edition we might see a lot of armies increase in points while Slaanesh and Soulblight stay more or less the same. This edition seems to be borrowing a lot from 40k 9th and an overall increase in points was a change we saw there.
  8. Try to keep the tone a little less abrasive please. I don't want to see this thread get locked as soon as it has started. It might be worth giving a little detail about what I know to be true about the situation. 1- pre launch gw employees said on Facebook that the game would be a permanent item. 2- the game launched and sold out very quickly. 3- gw stopped communicating with regular customers about the product and deleted earlier Facebook posts. 4- they did communicate with third party retailers saying that they had no plans to do a reprint but that there would be a way to get some of those minis soon. 5 in recent weeks some third party retailers have had a small amount of additional stock. 6 gw announced that some of the Cursed City minis will go up for pre-order 7 the physical edition of the novel is sold out but you can buy it digitally or get the audio version. 8- there is cursed city content in the most recent white dwarf. 9- expansions were planned as they are referenced in the rules. Speculation: 1.There was some kind of copyright claim but only for the game and not the book. 2. There are shipping issues from China. 3. There are tax issues due to Brexit. 4. Components are more expensive due to covid. 5. Gw looked at the data and decided there wasn't enough actual demand to warrant a reprint. 6 some combination of any or all of the above. 7- expansions may have been cancelled. Regarding expansions, the first Blackstone fortress expansion was announced 3 months after the game came out, so if we dont hear anything by September, they will probably have been cancelled. Assuming that now is premature.
  9. I went and looked at a couple of recent tournaments that AoSshorts shares on his Twitter account. I looked at about a hundred lists and didn't see a single cases of an army taking the same unit more than 3 times. The only list I saw that I would describe as spammy was someone taking three units of each type of eel. I don't think a rule that limits spam will have any effect. I did hear, however, that some units might have their max unit size changed. That would have an impact on list building.
  10. With the pre-order of some of the Cursed City minis coming up, the Cursed City debate has been reignited. I'm very curious what the situation around Cursed City actually is. I have been fairly vocal on social media, saying that gw should explain what is going on with cursed city yet here I am, painting the copy I successfully got on launch day. I've seen the game reappearing in stock in some third party retailers and I'm very curious to see if GW actually badly misjudged demand or not.
  11. I don't think you need worry. Lumineth was clearly half a book when it released. This is clearly not the case for the Soulblight. People have said that the sisters for 40k are following that model but it will have been more than 2 years between codexes with a new edition in between. I don't think the new Stormcast or destruction will be split, though we may see an underworlds warband for each.
  12. Yeah. I'm glad to hear to the news and they seem fairly earnest but it is a bit difficult to listen to. I think I heard them say the name of their show about 20 times in that 15 minute segment.
  13. Wow! Those are some impressive drawing skills. I'd love an army with this aesthetic.
  14. It's the part that makes me doubt everything else. It's such an odd name for an AoS faction. Makes me wonder if this was a placeholder name that someone heard.
  15. I'm not saying they're wrong or that they don't have a genuine source but third hand rumours often have a way of twisting away from the truth. Even when we have the models in hand there may be people who say they look like hobgoblins and others who don't. A piece of info like charge reactions is much easier to describe and share than the aesthetics of an army.
  16. Charge reactions was definitely from a source with knowledge. Everything else is what most people were guessing.
  17. I really think the biggest change I'd like to see is to scenery. Having scenery that actually blocks line of sight would reduce the power of the two biggest problems people have, namely powerful shooting and magic. I think that one change would improve the game a massive amount.
  18. See me post above regarding zombies. It's not as mean as it seems.
  19. If zombies kill a model they can turn it into another zombie on a 2+ so the cursed city zombies will have a use.
  20. I find all this a little frustrating. There are always lots of fairly justified complaints about poor balance in the game. A book this comes out which seems to aimed squarely at the fat middle and everyone complains about it being underpowered. Aside from the wight kings which are unfortunately rather poor, almost everything has some utility. There are lots of possible builds. You can build a good zombie hoard army. You can build a high damage armoured army with graveguard, blood Knights and Prince Vordrai. You can build a cool wolf themed army. There are lots of ways of making a fun army that will be reasonably competitive army. This is how every battletome should be balanced.
  21. People were saying the new book is looking weak. I don't think that's true. Whether it is healthy or not is a different discussion.
  22. I think the Soulblight rules are looking pretty good. I was surprised by the zombie changes. They lost the bonuses to hit but they gained a six inch pile in and they do mortals on a six to hit. They also get to add a killed model on a 2+ rather than the old 6+. That's not too bad for cheap chaff.
  23. The thing about the bin and sin writers is that there are actually 3 writers. Each of them have written both sin and bin books. Also the majority of books are firmly middle of the road.
  24. I think if they said earlier that they would do a made to order run if necessary, it would solve a lot of problems.
  25. The riders of ruin ability lets you skip over a screen you are in combat with doing damage as you go and charge a unit behind them. That's not too bad. Also given that this book is written with third edition in mind it suggest they are going to separate normal moves and retreats. I always though it was weird that a retreat was a sub category of normal moves and not its own thing.
