  1. I'm not sure what all the kerfuffle about coherency is. I had a look through the AoS minis and there's only a small selection of units that might really struggle with half inch coherency. Harridans and Bladegheists from Nighthaunt, squig hoppers and fanatics from Gloomspite and maybe thralls from idk. Anything old world that could rank up before will be fine with the extra half inch of space. GW have already said that some units will have different coherence ranges written on their warscrolls. Do that with the warscrolls listed above and there's no problem. Why make the change? I think there are two reasons. Aesthetics and board space. The more important aspect is the fact that tighter grouped units will make more space on the board and make movement more important. Combined with the lack of double reinforcing, this will make a huge difference. Before with a unit of 60 zombies you could make a line about 60 inches across. Now the maximum you will be able to do is 30 inches. Swamping the board is going to be much harder than before. Why not just switch to squares? I really don't want to go back to wheeling around bushes. I like to feel like I have 50 game pieces instead of 5 or 6. The suggested options in the other thread are all more complicated especially as AoS unit sizes are so variable. What about piling in? With the 3 inch combat range and the reduction of pinning possibilities, I think there's going to be a lot less piling in than before. Obviously the litmus test is actually playing the game, but I've experimented with my own armies and I don't have to much trouble getting them in coherency.
  2. I think there's a lot of consternation about the idea of stepping away from the hobby as of it's some kind of failing. If the current game isn't doing it for you, do something else and by that I mean something completely different. There's nothing wrong with that and it doesn't mean the move has to be permanent. I stepped away from the hobby completely for almost ten years. Since I've come back I try and keep a better balance between the hobby, video games, other hobbies like cooking and sport I now enjoy the hobby much more than I did as a teenager when it consumed most of my free timem I have a much tighter budget now so I only buy something I'm really excited about and I try not to buy day one. If I miss out on a fomo thing, I don't worry about it. As for staying in the hobby, finishing projects can be very satisfying. I just finished painting the whole Dominion box set. It felt great. I try and keep projects manageable for that reason. The idea of buying a whole army at once is insane to me. If the lore isn't satisfying try writing your own. White Dwarf had a year long campaign focused on destruction. There's no reason you couldn't do something like that in your own games. I remember there was a well known Bonesplitterz player on the UK competitive scene whose personal challenge was to kill every monster in the game. They didn't particularly if they won or lost so long as they got to kill a new monster for the first time. Recently I was listening to Hey woah an AoS streamer. He told an awesome story about playing a Slaanesh player at Adepticon. The Slaanesh player painted, sold and then repainted the same Slaanesh army every edition, with the aim of doing it better each time. There's a well known converter who does crazy kitbashes and then runs them at Warhammer world events. His latest army is a heavily modified FeC army that he will run with the Ogor Mawtribes rules. GW themselves said its ok for him to run that army. There isn't a single actual Ogor in the army. So taking your Bonesplitterz and running them as some other faction is a completely legitimate option. I find these examples inspirational which is a big motivating factor for me. The important question you need to ask yourself is what you actually love about the game. If you come up with nothing then it's probably time to step away for a while but if there's an answer to that question for you then double down on it.
  3. It will be gates of Azyr, Soul wars and Dominion. Those are the three edition tie in books.
  4. While the BoC situation is sad, you have to feel a little sorry for Bonesplitterz. 900 replies and I only noticed one person saying Bonesplitterz.
  5. I think heroes being in a unit is something they would have mentioned earlier. I'm not sure about the rend issue. It works the same it always did. Control seems pretty obvious. You add up the unit score, then add any bonuses. Warhammer weekly were full of praise for this system. The bonus can be much more nuanced as they are additive rather than multiplicative. I hope that shooting in combat is kept for small side arms. Getting off a quick shot with a pistol seems logical, shooting a cannon doesn't.
  6. They've done minis for white dwarf plenty of times before. I think the last one was a liberator when they launched AoS They even did a metal elf for Mordheim. They've done versions of Gombrindal as a gift for subscribing before so they could do that again. I'm pretty confident that there will be a mini to accompany White Dwarf 500. Whether it will come with the magazine is another question.
  7. This is a bit of a weird rumour. It's been well known for years that the specialist studio designed a range for Cathay to at least concept stage. It wouldn't suprise me if the full cad designs have been sitting around for a couple of years now. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/09/14/watch-grand-cathay-come-to-life-in-an-epic-collaboration-for-total-war-warhammer-iii/ The article says they've even written the rules for the faction already. The question is if and when GW will allocate the budget and the production window to turn this range into real models.
  8. The genestealer cults are rumoured to be getting some kind of psychic hero so it's probably that.
  9. Yeah probably, but there are some other details that are a good change. They're pretty similar to the Preators but the details look a lot finer. Thinner parchment, chainmail instead of scale mail, the cloak not covering the chest, the thinner chains instead of the rope. It all adds up to a more pleasing design that isn't swamped by all it's detail.
  10. Yes it is. It's in the eastern part of the great parch so presumably it's going to be ground zero for the Skaven attack. I'm definitely curious to learn more about it and to see the map in full. It could be a cool location for the next season of warcry or the next Warhammer quest game.
  11. Anyone notice this from yesterday's painting video? Pretty cool looking map.
  12. Absolutely love the unit. My dream for a starter set before we knew it was Stormcast was a box of humans with Stormcast allies. We didn't get that but this is definitely the next best thing. I never realistically thought we'd get regular mortals in a launch box. They've never done that with marines. I'm very excited to see the rest of the ruination chamber now. I'd to see something like the sisters of battle at Katherine box but instead of a reliquary. It's a mad Stormcast in chains who needs to be guided to the front lines by mortal priests before being unleashed.
  13. It's the champion of the unit. You can see the shield on his back in both pictures.
  14. Interesting that none of them match this picture. The icons on his chest are switched. Is this a hero or another unit. So far for the Stormcast side of the box we have: 10 liberators 3 reclusians with 2 helpers 3 or 5 prosecutors 1 lord vigilant on crow. 1 cover star hero 1 or 3 pictured above. (Edit no it's the unit champion) Is that the full set? Edit Still a couple of heroes to see then. Edit the picture above is the champion flipped.
  15. I went and did a quick calculation. Warcry and underworlds which had a similar number of products across 2nd and 3rd edition. So if you just look at the numbers of main game kits sold 3rd edition will end up with just over 100 kits. 2nd edition has about 120. On top of that 2nd edition had 2 boxes of endless spells 12 faction scenery kits and 15 sets of faction endless spells. In third we just got the one incarnate. I have a theory that when COVID hit GW chose to focus on their core product, 40k. AoS unfortunately suffered as a result. All that is to say that even returning to the level of investment AoS got in 2nd edition would be very welcome.
  16. I own 60 of those old night goblins and there is a massive difference. The newer are quite a bit smaller and the hands on the new kit are about a quarter of the size of the old ones. I remember loving the old kit when it first came out but now I wouldn't buy it for £5.
  17. No I’d expect a new old world pre-order about every two months. Launch in January, Orcs and Gobilns in March, Dwarfs in May etc. Dwarfs coming out after 4th would mean the releases are slowing down considerably. We could see dwarfs switching places with kill team but that would make for a very short window between kill team releases.
  18. My prediction for Pre-Orders is: April 20th Dawnbringers 6, Abraxia and Darkoath. April 27th Tau or Chaos 40k May 4th Old World Dwarfs. May 11th Tau or Chaos 40k May 18th Kill Team and or Warcry May 25th Left over old world and Legions Imperialis June 1st Made to order only. June 8th AoS 4th. I think there's some debate about the launch date. It's either launch on June 22nd or pre-order on June 22nd. The warscroll from the other day seems to back up the second theory. If that's true I could see warcry and Kill team getting their own week and another week of filler stuff. In any case, I'll be very surprised if we don't see the old world Dwarfs in May.
  19. I don't want to dismiss this rumour out of hand but there are too many things that don't line up. Since when did the GW studio care about the success of the video game? Also I can't believe that anyone would know what the plans for the old world's distant future are but not know what the next release will be.
  20. I hope that Chaos Duardin keep the old look. I also hope that Nurgle, Ogors, Fyreslayers and Khorne get big updates next edition. If that happens I be able to focus on running a Skaven army without being tempted by any other factions. They can save Malerion to be my 5th edition army.
  21. I looked over the rules for the different subfactions in the current Stormcast battletome. They are all very bland and don't really represent the lore of the subfaction. knights Excelsior lore- they see everything in black and white and have no qualms about killing the innocent if it serves their view of the greater good. Knights Excelsior rule- +1 to hit and wound on outnumbered paladins. The new rules don't seem any worse than what currently exists. As long as the lore about the different Stormhosts or Cities are still in the books, I'm completely ok with this change. Also I definitely think there will be more formations than the 4 from the indexes. They need to have something to make you buy the book.
  22. GW tried it with AoS at one point, I think with the second edition Stormcast book but the whole community said no ******* way
  23. If you're requesting a new game, no problem, but in this hypothetical situation you're potentially asking to make the game worse for those who enjoy the game in order to suit your tastes and you're doing that without even trying the game first. To use a concrete example I was one of the people asking for Elden ring to have difficulty settings. Once I actually tried the game I realised that playing the game as a mage was relatively simple. I had been operating under a false assumption because I hadn't tried the game myself.
  24. I don't think that's the point that @Mr_Whateley is trying to make. If the actual playerbase is dissatisfied with the game, then that's a strong case for making a change, but if it's only people who don't play who want a change then it's a different question. It absolutely is less valid to want rules change if you haven't at least tried the game. Personally I do play the game and don't want it changed dramatically. In fact I'm not sure what tweaks I'd want in a new edition aside from balance adjustments and new locations to play in.
