That could certainly be the case as the O&G doesn't have a great battalion, compared to the two before and the one that the dwarfes will get.

Yeah, that's my first thought. All the kits in the O&G Battalion are old even by TOW standards (all are from early 6th edition). Meanwhile the Dwarf on its a mix of later 6th edition sculpts (the Dwarf Warriors and the Quarrellers) and 8th (the two Gyrocopter/bombers).

I couldn't see myself ever using those old O&G sculpts, but the Dwarfs are fine by me, especially when I can also be taking the (also 8th edition?) Ironbreaker and Hammerer kits in my army and the new plastic Shield Bearer kit. So I expect the Dwarf release to sell better.

Witch Hunters are Sisters of Battle, no squatting just a rename, Chaos Dwarfs didn’t have an army book, we had a collection of White Dwarf articles and there was no Codex Squats because they stopped being sold at the start of 2nd edition, not 3rd. Fimir were a handful of models. A far cry from removing a full range of plastic miniatures.

I'd say Squats were the nearest to being equivalent in this case (when they were dropped they were equivalent to other factions at the same time in terms of support), and there's a reason people talk about things being "Squatted".

Chaos Dwarfs are the next nearest, but as you say they were not a fully supported army at the time. I suspect I'm some ways they were reading there popularity via the WD army list, and found them not to be very popular so they didn't get official support.

Agreed completely on Witch Hunters (you can still buy some of their minis now from that era, and they have non-legends rules) and Fimirs (such a stretch).

The Dracolines  must be bigger than I thought, but if it works then great. let us know how it goes.

They are surprisingly big yes. If you're interested: https://old.reddit.com/r/WarhammerFantasy/comments/1br8mp3/dragon_ogre_shartak_ready_for_paint/

One of the things that's a bit weird is that the existing (or formerly existing) Shaggoth is hardly bigger than the plastic Dragon Ogres (and both are on 50x75mm bases in TOW). Seems a shame not to have Shaggoths be significantly bigger.

Sigmar & Nagash kiss & make up, stormcast & bonereapers souped

A fifth grand alliance, and then a souping of the existing four into a great resistance. Like the crowning of Malekith as Phoenix King (where seemingly all the High Elves just shrugged their shoulders at the centuries of war crimes and said "well I guess the fire says he's a goodie so we forgive him"), no one will bat an eyelid at Archaon working alongside Stormcast.

  5. Having seen a few examples of people using Dracolines that look excellent (their body size fits Ogroid perfectly), and then still being available from GW at the moment, I've gone ahead and ordered some.

As a side note, Abraxia might make a pretty cool basis for a Shaggoth. Though I'm not sure what Torso to use an Ogroids might be a little on the small side.

Murderous is just frustrating. I feel like it really shouldn't have the restrictions, since it feels like we're paying for the ability but never getting to actually use it.

Agreed. At the moment, basically the only unit that will always benefit from it are Sorceresses (which, great I guess, but I don't really want my Sorceress in melee). Everything else that has the rule will almost certainly have a non-hand weapon they'd rather use. And it just feels wrong for it not to apply to Witch Elves using their signature two hand weapons.

  7. I'm thinking of converting some Dragon Ogres using the excellent Ogroid Theridons from AoS for the Torso, and I'm trying to decide what I should use as the lower body. Interested to know if anyone that has done this and, if so, what worked. Currently my thoughts are:

1 - Celestial Dracolines. Pros = good size and they are scaled. Cons = a lot of tidying up to remove the moulded on legs of the Stormcast Rider.

2 - Aggradons. Pros = even more lizardy than Dracolines and shouldn't be as hard to tidy up. Cons = might be a big slight in comparison to Theridon's body.

3 - Varanguard mounts. Pros = already Chaosy and mount seems largely separate to rider (also lots of Chaos conversion bits). Cons = not lizardy and I'd need to sell my liver to buy a set.

4 - Centaurion Marshall. Pros = bloody gorgeous lower body with an (IMHO) awful upper body, plus the upper and lower are basically already separate and it comes pre-centaured. Cons = I can only really make one, so one really good if I want to user it as a solo Shartak (not the worst thing in the world), and not lizardy at all.

5 - Karkadrak. Pros = perhaps the most Dragon Ogrey body out there, and already Chaosified. Cons = same as Centaurion Marshall in that can only really make one, and being an easy build kit I suspect it'll be hell to get the rider off.

6 - Kragnos. Okay, this is probably a joke, and if it wasn't it's be a Shaggoth 😄

    Any other ideas? Any thoughts?

  8. So today I picked up my O&G Arcane Journal and reference cards, as well as my Green Knight, and I realised something: I don't want to deal with metal minis. They're just too much of a hassle for me these days: harder to assemble well and securely, wise detail than modern plastics or resin, and they chip so damn easily. I remember being a metal snob, preferring it to plastics. I have no idea why anymore.

Anyway, I think I'm going to return his Green Highness. He was a lovely sculpt, but I think I just prefer modern stuff.

You rat fans are a crazy bunch! 😄

Can't wait to watch my hopefully beefed up mega foot boss waid into a whole swarm of ya puny fuzzy gits and stomp each and every last one!! 🤘

Which is exactly what we want you to do, so the while we are looking to our horrendously deadly war machines on your mega boss. Clanrats only exist to distract him for a few moments 😄

I think, writing them a mail is also underrated (if you guys have the time.....)

Agreed. Be polite, but make it clear that you are disappointed and would get much like BoC to remain in AoS.

Don't expect them to actually change their mind in the short term by the way. BoC will be retired as planned. What might change however is them bringing BoC in, say, AoS 5th and/or extending the officialdom of BoC in 4th.

Even that, I don't think that the Legacy Factions are going to have any release in the next two years. To be honest, I expect a lot of Camapign Supplements (aka, Horus Heresy newBlack Books) for the existing Core Factions, maybe with new units or new factions (Kislev/Cathay maybe?). Whatever was "the scope of the project has changed" will start kicking hard in maybe 2 to 3 years.

I hope I'm wrong because all Vampire Coast posts from @Sception are a joy to read, and an Arcane Journal will be enough to start a new project.

Agreed. I feel like 3 years is the standard GW medium term time block, and that everything for TOW is set in stone for that period. They are probably in the planning stage for the next 3 years, but a lot of their plans will be contingent on sales at the moment.

I agree, factions that are legacy in TOW don't have to worry about being removed from AoS.

The path for legacy factions to graduate to core faction status is by having their old kits re-released instead, which I think is very possible for Vampire Counts. They have a bunch of old models that some people might want.

Yeah this. AoS SBGL are almost entirely new sculpts now, with they're own somewhat distinct theme. Vampire Counts could be released in TOW with old sculpts and keep the two ranges separate once the last few are reculpted or retired (most notably Graveguard).

  13. All ghosts is a very cool idea, with strong support thanks to Nighthaunt in AoS. However army wide Ethereal seems like a bad idea. Some armies have almost no access to Magic Attacks outside of characters, and they're going to have a miserable time fighting ghosts; others, like Warriors of Chaos, can have Magic Attacks across the board, in which case Ethereal is completely useless points tax. So yeah, I wouldn't say it's a good idea from a game okay point of view.

Warhammer fantasy, BFG, Space Hulk, Necromunda, Inquisitor, Warmaster, Mordheim, Bloodbowl, Aeronautica Imperialis, and my first warhammer game epic (or space marine as it was known then)

So many excellent games dropped by GW. Is rare BFG as one of their best games ever. I also want to pour one of for Warhammer Quest (my gateway, asking with CRPGs, into true tabletop role playing) and Man 'O War (who doesn't want a game where High Elves strap a pair of razorblades on the front of a giant catamaran (which has a literal castle at the back) and speed around cutting enemy ships on two).

You're right ! It would work certainly better with a front of 6 with 3 characters, instead. Thanks for reminding me that point, there are still so many changes to keep in head.

I only remembered because I read it in, I think, the Goonhammer review of the rules, and was surprised it was needed.

6 with 3 does sound good. I think the cheapness of Night Goblin characters make them really quite good. I'm a sucker for the absurd stats of things like Chaos Lords, but for 30 points for 3 WS 4 Str 4 attacks on a two wound toughness 4 body really is great bang for your buck.

Try a front of 7 with 4 heroes with that, it's not that highly expensive in the end. :P

I don't think that's allowed based on the Too Many Characters rule on page 209 of the Core Rules. I think the max you could take is 3 in that frontage (not that that's bad).
