  1. Nighthaunt player here with a question:

I just finished a game against DoT army, which wiped the floor with me. If I recall correctly it looked like this:

    Hosts Duplicitous
    Kairos
    Lord of Change
    2x Exalted Flamers
    2x 10 Tzaangors
    2x 10 Pink Horrors
    Burning Sigil of Tzeentch

    Battleplan was Power in Numbers.

The whole army was placed in the center of the deployment zone as a bubble. I was told beforehand that Tzaangors will use Ornate Totems with 4 dice each in the hero phase*, because there were four wizards nearby. So I stayed out of 18" range in the first round, but tried to flank the army via Vanishing Phantasms / deepstrike. That worked out, but afterwards 2x 20 nearby Bladegheist Revenants were deleted by mortal wounds. When my Grimghast Reapers arrived in the third turn without general (who was easily killed by Kairos) the two big chickens just picked apart my remaining models. Just my Chainrasp blob stayed intact in my deployment zone.

I don't know how to engage this army next time with all my melee units. Kairos and the Lord of Change are out of reach and the Tzaangors in the flanks get revived and dish out mortal wounds to everybody. I can't retreat either, which shuts down charges for Wave of Terror.

*edit: He did it to every enemy unit within 18" though.

  2. Can anybody explain to a non-S2D player what a Tzeentch / Cabalists army might look like with this battletome? Hero / Sorcerer spam? Do these S2D spells have such an impact on the overall strategy of the army to spell sling them? The spell lore seems so meagre. And what is Warp Reality good for?

  3. I am not sure if Knight of Shrouds' on Ethereal Steed Lord of Gheists is a command ability I have to spend a command point for. I am confused because it does not explicitly say "You can issue this command ability in the combat phase".

    Quote

Lord of Gheists: Once per battle round, this unit can issue the All-out Attack command to a friendly NIGHTHAUNT SUMMONABLE unit without a command point being spent.

In the combat phase, when you pick this unit to fight for the first time in that phase, you can pick 1 friendly NIGHTHAUNT SUMMONABLE unit wholly within 12" of this unit and that has not yet fought in that phase. This unit and that NIGHTHAUNT SUMMONABLE unit can fight one after the other in the order of your choice.

He does issue All-out Attack for free - that's clear. Do I have to spend a command point for the second paragraph nevertheless? And can I choose two different units within range for All-out Attack and the fighting order effect?

What if I choose All-out Attack via Lord of Gheists in the shooting phase? Can I at this point already pick a unit to fight after my Knight of Shrouds' on Ethereal Steed in the following combat phase?

Bonus question: If both paragraphs are indeed one command ability, can a Dreadblade Harrow with Curse of Loyalty be picked to activate with an other nearby unit for the fighting order effect or only for All-out Attack?

    Quote

Curse of Loyalty: Once per battle round, if your general has the NIGHTHAUNT keyword and issues a command, this unit can issue the same command in the same phase without a command point being spent. If it does so, that command must be received by a friendly NIGHTHAUNT unit.

She's such a funny one. She's an auto-include for me and does wonders. I try writing lists without her but always think I'd miss her and revert. I get the impression she's very much love her or hate her.

I played a couple of games with her and I am not really impressed. My opponent I play against regularly is already ignoring her and tries to shot / reach my small support heroes. I think I replace her with either Kurdoss + Spirit Torment or 2 Spirit Torments + Chain Ghasts:

    Guardian of Souls (150)*

This is quickly becoming my favorite style of battle reports. Gold standard, I'd say. Also, the commentary at minute 30 *chef's kiss*.

I'm so jelous of the terrain. I've neven seen such a beautiful table before.

I really wish glavewraiths were cheap. We really need a cheap chaff that just fishes for WoT spam, camps objectives, holds enemy units in place while the elites cannonball around.

I know. Chainrasps. But theyve shoehorned them into a strange position if being quite aggro-y in huge numbers... and I just dont like the sculpt either. Or the fact they break the 4+ armor theme.

But that isn't their intended role. They are a small unit of hunters, not chaff. I'd be okay with the price if their weapons would have Range 2" and -2 Rend, so their charges would be even more reliable and rewarding.

What about the IDEA of the list? It's al theory for me at this point

It was expected that people will spam Bladegheists when the rules for Scarlet Doom were leaked. Your idea is just a simple tactic.  You should rather develop a strategy for your army list to win games.

Which of your units are watching the your backline objective for example?

Picked up some reinforcements today. Mainly Spirit Hosts which I never bothered with before,  along with 10 more Bladegheists taking me to 40.

Going to run my first list as Scarlet Doom in a 1 drop with Olynder, Krulghast, GoS (or any other hero) and 40 Bladegheists, with some Spirit Hosts, Chainrasps and Emerald Lifeswarm.

Sound similiar to my list conceptually:

    Allegiance: Nighthaunt

    - Procession: Scartel Doom
    - Grand Strategy: Hold the Line
    - Triumphs: Bloodthirsty

    Warlord

    Lady Olynder (340)
    - Spell: Shademist
    - Artefact: Lightshard of the Harvest Moon

    Guardian of Souls (150)

Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed (155)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Spiteful Spirits
    - Artefact: Pendant of the Fell Wind

    20 x Grimghast Reapers (320)

    30 x Chainrasp Horde (330)

    20 x Bladegheist Revenants (350)

    20 x Bladegheist Revenants (350)

    Extra Enhancements

    1 Additional Artefact

    Total: 1995 / 2000

Grimghast Reapers should probably be replaced by 2 units of Spirit Hosts to protect my small heroes, but Rule of Cool prevails.

I guess if Chorfs aren't the chaff grunts (that'd be Hobgrotz) and aren't the soldiers (Horns of Hashut) and also not the monsters (Centaurion) of the Hashut faction they basically have to be the leaders, sorcerers and engineers. Thus living up to the 'dark masters' moniker from the Hobgrotz lore part.

That makes sense, but I can't imagine Horns of Hashut being actual soldiers  in the sense of infantry. They seem to be a vanguard unit of armed workers or slaves even, who worship certain aspects of their deity:

    Quote

The Horns of Hashut see the thriving jungles of Ghur and want nothing more than to burn them down to make way for the forges and foundries demanded by their dark father.

Popping in to see what the general opinion was of the new rules. Most of what I read is as expected.

Only question I have... has anything in the leaks made anyone think the Crossboos are worth their points?  I mean... battleline with Kurdoss isn't the worst... but even with auto wound on 6's their expected damage even firing every turn is laughable.

I don't think they are. I still can't believe it's 115 points for just 5 models. It would be nice if they were a viable ambush unit, but I don't think we will see them until their points drop.

    30 x Bladegheists – 525

Wouldn't two units of 20 models be more efficient? Tomb Greatblades are still Range 1" on a 32" inch bases, so it's difficult to reach the enemy unit. You'd furthermore get more triggers for Wave of Terror.

  12. This is my first idea for a Scarlet Doom list:

    Quote

    Allegiance: Nighthaunt

    - Procession: Scarlet Doom
    - Grand Strategy: Hold the Line
    - Triumphs: Bloodthirsty

    Battle Regiment

Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed (155)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Ruler of the Spectral Hosts (or Skilled Leader)

    10 x Grimghast Reapers (160)

    10 x Grimghast Reapers (160)

    30 x Chainrasp Horde (330)

    30 x Chainrasp Horde (330)

    Vanguard

    Guardian of Souls (150)
    - Artefact: Midnight Tome

    20 x Bladegheist Revenants (350)

    20 x Bladegheist Revenants (350)

    Total: 1985 / 2000

Grimghast Reapers are a flex spot I guess. There is still a MONSTER missing in this army and I hope the Mourngul gets a proper update soon.
