Don’t worry, with the right waxing, your mustache will soon be one of the greatest.

anyways let’s get back the topic.

any ideas what the allegiance abilities could look like!

Maybe Brazillian waxing was not the right kind of waxing?

I think we'll see a reprint of Firestorm, but hope there'll be a way to add some stuff (through batallions? Through generals?) to the existing Freeguild allegiance abilities, and/or the city allegiance gives enough options that the tradeoff is worthwhile.

  2. My wishlist:

    - Base set without Stormcast (I already have those)

    - Beasts of Chaos warband

    - Wanderers warband

    - Free Peoples warband (especially Ghur themed, would be brilliant!)

    - White Lions themed warband (would fit Ghur perfectly)

    - Ogor or Bonesplitters warband (again, fitting Ghur)

    - Daughters of Khaine warband

I'd go a step further and suggest that the book could immediately benefit subfactions even without their own battletome. Three things are holding back factions like dispossessed, wanderers, darkling covens and especially free people's:

    Lack of battalions

    Some poor warscrolls

    Points costs

IMO there are lots of builds that are very close to competitive that could get there with just a small update from this tome.

That I agree with. I am hesistant to say the FP or Aelves will get another battletome soonish, they have received none so far, but I can hope!

Having options to include units from other factions would give aelves a fighting chance as their roster fills a lot more, and similarely having options for Ironweld, College or devoted working well with the main army and a few batallions would help FP and Disposessed. I am not entirely sure we'll see that, but a batallion that introduces a few out-of army units and changes their keywords to work with the main army would be very nice!

I would not be surprised at all to see a later down the line seperate books on Dispossessed, Free People’s, Wanderers & Darkling Covens.

They each have a decent sized model range coupled with Allegiance Abilities in the Handbook.

It would only stand to reason that they will redo Seraphon later this year and keep the others for next year (allowing them to ‘finish’ all the races by the end of next year.)

It will also remove the need for the Grand Alliance Books.

    My prediction for release order this year;

    Orruk Warclans Book

    Free Cities Book

    Ogur Book

Deathrattle/Soulblight Book (either would be cool, I’d prefer Deathrattle)

Everchosen-STD-Darkoath Soup/Seraphon Book (either one first, then the other)

    Next year I’ll be guessing in no particular order;

Dispossessed, Wanderers, Free People’s, Kharadron Overlords, Disciples of Tzeentch, Light Elves (which could add in the old High Elf range  & Shadow Elves (which could add in the old Dark Elf Range)

I would like very much for you to be right!

If they'd do a MULTI KIT guard box (spears/guns/crossbow/whatever), they'd sell it like crazy.

I don't know about that, the guards have save 5+, which indicates demi cuirass, while the crossbowmen and handgunners have 6+, indicating some armour, but limited to jacks and helmets. Stances for missile troops are also dissimilar from melee troops.

I doubt they will, but unless they release new models for at least the freeguild troops I wont be too hyped for this. When the guard or handgunners are packed together in a block they look alright as whole, but once you break it down to individual models you really notice how lackluster and aged they are, especially in comparison to the rest of the AoS line.

Yeah, the guards and handgunners are not very pretty. Pistoleers/Outriders, Greatswords, generals (horse and griffin) and Demis on the other hand are.

Just renewing the guards and crossbowmen/handgunners would be enough to update the line (and give the guards a militia option right from the box please)

One thing that I'd love to see, and I'd say we're already starting to see examples of this, is for GW to look at being more creative with how the various factions can be put together. The Grand Alliance concept is one I kind of like, in general terms, but obviously at the moment those books are dead in the water and probably not coming back.

Let's say by early next year we have all the existing armies dealt with and for better or worse up to 2.0 standard, what I think would be great (and play into my belief that GW wants people to have lots of different factions of various saqizes on the go rather than just being a X or Y player) would be opening up more models to different books.

It seems like the Allies system whilst perfectly fine doesn't really get used as much as it should, Mercenaries is another way to try and push this but I think just making battletomes more inclusive would work even better.

So the Cities of Sigmar book looks like it will have, a lot of, the existing Wanderers units in. Good, I like that, it can stay around.

Then let's say they, as is being hinted at, release some next level animal/beast Aelves models they could have a standalone Wanderers book too, with the new and old models (with the old ones still fine for your CoS army).

And lets say the new models are some kind of Wild Hunt fauna like equivalent to the Sylvaneth flora, perhaps tied in some way to Kurnoth, then then next Sylvaneth Battletome could also allow you to include a select few units of them (and of course vice versa).

Or when Malerion's Aelves get released, obviously they have their own new models, but also can include select units, the snakes say, from DoK and from some of the thematically appropriate Cities of Sigmar units, without overwriting or invalidating those books.

Likewise when Grungi pulls his finger out you could have a new Duardin book, that gets new core models but also, again, allows you to take select Kharadron, Fyreslayer, Cities of Sigmar units, without those individual books being discontinued.

You could do that with so many of the factions, and to me makes perfect sense if you want to maintain such a huge range of factions to make them playable across different, thematically appropriate armies.

To my mind whilst too many Battletomes has obviously problems, the real issue is supporting all of those with models. They can pump put 4-8 books a year without it killing them or us and would be much tighter and lore focused than just the Grand Alliances with the big benefit that players wouldn't have to wait years and years before new models are released that can fit into your existing armies.

It would be interesting to get an alternate take on how you can compose armies that have enough restrictions and boons in them to keep the game balanced. It would also boost sales.

"I currently have a slow shooty army, but if I use this allegiance, I get a buff to my speed, which will help put my army into postion. I'll need to add some units from faction Y though, but that's not too much of a hassle. " Then another book comes out, and with the inclusion of yet another few units, you can play the existing core of your army in yet another way. At some point, shifting the core army to the new models you purchased gets below the treshold, and you have two cores. If only you get a few units of faction Z, you can field them in allegiance 3 and 4...

I worry that they are going to state "There's your battletome, stop whining" for the 14 factions that received their first in this book though, and leave it at that for the next three years.

I think the simple answer is they don't have to so they won't.

That is the simple answer, and I am actually okay with that if they reattach the lost limbs of the faction. They couldn't at first, because then the older armies would be more rounded than the new ones, but that's no longer an issue, so now I expected to see two aelven armies and one human army, with the disposessed being a bit of a wildcard.

That is not what the tome seems to imply though.

  9. I think lumping almost all old elves, order humans and the disposessed dwarves together in a book would be a bit much, but then they added Kharadron and put Stormcast in, and now what will be the flavour of the battletome?

I do agree the Disposessed, Devoted, Freeguild, Ironweld and College could be in one battletome, but to put all the older elves with them as well is a bit much.

Disposessed being able to ally with other dwarves is fine and dandy, and I grudgingly accept that one or two Stormcast could sometimes fit a Freeguild army (but need to lose their shoulderpieces and get a better head before they fit aesthetically), but adding the 8 current old Aelves faction to that mix sounds a bit soupy.

So one could be Disposessed, Ironweld, Freeguild, Devoted, College with rules about Stormcast, Kharadron and Fyreslayer inclusions, a second book could fit the Darkling Covens, Eldritch Council, Lion Rangers, Order Draconis, Order Serpentis, Phoenix Temple, Scourge Privateers, Shadowblades, Swifthawk Agents and Wanderers with rules about Idoneth or Khaine inclusions (I don't think the Sylvaneth would want to play).

It looks like the book as proposed will try to fit rules for 16 current factions in it, which is madness, or more probably, blandness.

IMHO less is more.  Look at 40k where there is just gigantic bloat to see what we could have ended up with for AOS; I think there's like 20 codexes?  Maybe more?  Of course 40k has its wonky ally system, but I think AOS is coming on "too many" already.  The more books you add, the harder it is to balance things because you have so many things and combinations; there's a point where you're just throwing things out there to fit in.  40k is well past that point, I don't think AOS is yet and I hope it doesn't get to it because IMHO it will be terrible for the game.

So you say GW should have just deleted the other armies at the start of AoS? Which is a viable point of view, but no longer relevant, because we're a few years down the line and they still sell them.

I really would prefer new Freeguild models, that incorporated different races within units (separate boxed units that can be mixed on table with cohesive rules anyone??). And it would be great to not have the same floofy holy Roman Empire look... but unfortunately we will probably only see the current boxes repackaged with circle bases, and some metal models made plastic. While needed, this book isn't for new players.

Whether they keep the HRE look or not, the poses need to be changed because as of now they are designed to be regimental-fit. Personally I don't see how every single Mortal Realm could end up with the same medieval Europe look for their Freeguilds, but its the lore to table disconnect that always happens. I do not think "just convert your own!" is a proper answer either, since that requires an even heavier investment in both time and money unless GW decides to make proper conversion kits for AOS.

It's hard for GW to make new molds for Free people.

Either they make something different from what they did, and it does not fit with the theme (as well as risking alienating existing players), or they make molds fitting the old ones, but not the direction they want to go in with the entire game. If they do make new molds, it'll be a bare minimum effort to keep a full line.

Not that they'll try. I suspect a major reason for this book is the chance to toss out old molds without making new ones by combining factions, or by giving you options to patch the holes the retired models give (probably by filling it with Stormcast, they put three Stormcast on the cover, as opposed to two figures that actually needed a battletome).

He's not a general, he's part of the old Empire command retinue, but he's just sold with the general.

Ah yes, I now see this. That general has all sorts of character though, if I get myself a Halberd guard so I can use the other one, I'll be quite tempted to buy them.

It would have been clearer if they gave the relevant warscrolls for download though.

Honestly FW could produce a LOT of upgrade kits for AoS, but so far GW and FW don't seem to know what to do with FW esp for AoS. They formed a dedicated AoS team and then after the alternative stormcast heads came out they disbanded the team. It's hard to say but there seems to be both politics and production pressures on FW which is resulting in it jumping around and unable to settle down. That AoS was a game originally built to just shift models (no real game) and that its been 4 or 5 years or such since it launched and over that time FW has produced 1 dragon (that we believe started life in the End Times of Old World) and 2 sets of alternate heads kind of shows that AoS is not all that important.

It's a huge shame because AoS is such a ripe picking ground that FW should have no problem thinking up ideas and selling models.

The choice for Freeguild sets is also abysmal, incomplete guards, or incomplete gunners with armour that does not fit the rules, and generals that all have loadouts that do not fit the choices people make, with one being a naked fanatic (which does not mesh with the save they have), and a dragon without a warscroll.

Give us heads, cloaks, arms with alternate weapons or shields, make gorgets, alternate legs for the shoeless guy, heroic bannermen, flamboyant musicians, dramatic unit captains...

If the retinue rules are significant, I can see myself buying them to accompany my general

I want to buy them as well, and might have, if FW had given them arms and, you know, actual blades. Now I need to break down a guard set so I can't make 20 swordsmen from them and a set of guards.

Until it is sold as a complete set, I'll use Greatsword bodies for them at best.

  15. 7 minutes ago, Knight Scáthach of Fimm said:

Often I mix and match the guard kit with greatswords bits, like heads etc. Same with my gunners, they have some outrider heads because why not?
    The greatsword kit is excellent.

I have one of them, and already had 10 greatswords made from all sorts of stuff, and think I'd sooner buy another than a guard set, the greatsword models are just so much better.

Looking at the Forgeword Mannan's blades they stand out as a lot better as well, the FW not being a complete unit, no spare parts and not as good looking for more money.

  16. 12 minutes ago, Knight Scáthach of Fimm said:

There's almost 0% chance for new models. However, the aesthetics can change to a degree, but not in the way people would expect. When Firestorm released there were a number of 'official' Freeguild soldiers that had been kitbashed to represent different cities. Much like how the imperial guard have in their codex.

I agree, I expect GW to use this to cut out a few old molds, and lore Karl Franz to be a patron saint of the cities so they won't have to update the models featuring the name. This could mean warpriests and witch hunters are more usable for Free Peoples, and certain city allegiances or battallions can get Aelves to play nice with each other.

I'm too much of a perfectionist not to have all the same models, but not so much that I won't batch-paint the hell out of them!

I like diversity in my models, the sergeants of my guards may be based on Greatsword models, and the Greatsword Guild Champion could be a General on foot with a great weapon.

I am a serial converter though, having cut through over 50 Bretonnian Bowmen to date.

I have 20 greatswords but my current list with the points reductions allows for 30; not because 30 will all attack, but to absorb casualties.

If you have 20 from 2x10 boxes, you'll have bits to make it 30 with a few guard transformations. They are not as glorious, but it may be an option.

I wonder how ppl would react to plaing against army made from perry minis and conversions.

    Mixed feelings for me.

I like Perry and Warlord figs, find them better than many GW ones, but GW is ignoring Free People enough as it is, if they don't see sales, they'll neglect it even more. They also are noticably different. I have purchased a box of Landsknecht militia to use as crossbowmen, but decided against it.

I am a serial converter though, and sometimes do use nog GW parts, for instance female heads or a few swords on belts or variety in weapons. Every body is GW though.

  20. I think about 8 for order and Chaos, and 6 for Death and Destruction.

    Order

    • Seraphon (they do not seem too keen on working together, so need to be apart)
    • Khaine and Deepkin (as definately different aelves from the rest, they now are both their own)
    • Fyreslayers
    • Free Peoples (with Disposessed, Ironweld, Devoted, College)
    • Aelves (too many to toss in with the Free Peoples)
    • Kharadron Overlords
    • Sylvaneth
    • Stormcast

    Chaos (now missing chaos elves)

    • Slaves to Darkness
    • Tzeench
    • Slaanesh
    • Khorne
    • Beasts of Chaos
    • Skaven
    • Nurgle
    • Chaos dwarves

    Death

    • Nighthaunt (so ghosts)
    • FEC (so Ghouls)
    • Something skeleton (Nagash now does this)
    • Vampires (Nagash now does this)
    • ? Maybe mummies?
    • ? Maybe another recognisable death aspect, like constructs?

    Destruction

    • Armoured orcs
    • Savage orcs
    • Beastraider Ogres
    • Other Ogors
    • Gitz
    • Humans or Aelves that somehow ended up in this faction (there is mention of it in the lore, and I could see Ghur humans and/or Aelves doing this)
