  1. The second half of the answer covers pulling enemy units into combat.
  2. Another great thing about that list is how many options you have for Underworlds. I think you made a fine choice. I've dropped as little as just Olynder and her screen, and as much as a full half the army.
  3. That's really cool, too! That's a Ghyran Nighthaunt, there.
  4. Whenever I see these nice and ghosty themes I always wonder if I made a mistake with my theme... These are gorgeous!
  5. I never matched against Crematorians. They're the ones that have a chance to blow up on you when you kill a model? That's tough for us, having to try to heal back additional mortals in both when they attack and when we do. I wondered if we have enough model return to handle it. Was that much of a factor for you? Their ability is to remove cover from their targets, so I imagine that was a dead ability for them. How did their saves look? What's their output look like? In my games against Petrifex the key was generating mortals on them. Reducing them to a Deathless shrug takes all the bite out of their defence, and their additional rend is useless. Pretty easy once you take out any range if they bring any, but it makes doing that a higher priority than grabbing objectives.
  6. We really need a new book, if only for a rewrite on rules clarity that the newer books get. I am loving the lists people are coming up with changes they'd like to see. Some of these suggestions are pretty unique.
  7. That's how I'm interpreting it, which sucks. I also checked with Aiden Nicol almost a year ago on it and the TOs in New Zealand also ruled that way.
  8. It's not FAQed for Reiky himself, but in general a ways back: If you grab aosshorts.com's All-in-One FAQ it's on page 7. Combine that with Reiky's ability wordage: And it becomes "the wound must take in order for the casting bonus to occur."
  9. We should move on. "We’ll be previewing both Battletome: Stormcast Eternals and Battletome: Nighthaunt in more detail next week, but we can safely say these are some of the best battletomes EVER." - Warhammer Community post June 24th, 2018. Boy, time was not kind to these tomes, was it? The battletome was released June 30th, 2018. Various murmurs both on these forums and in a few Discords (AoS Coach's in particular) are suggesting that the meager release of points for GHB2020, the slowness to confirm if our December offerings are still legal, and passing the our 2nd birthday are all classic GW indicators that we might be having a new tome just over the horizon. What do you guys think? What would you like to see? What would make NH competitive in the current meta, and even better, what would make it a bit more future-proof than it currently is? Personally, I would love to see the following changes: Legion of Grief's ability for the general to spend a CP to bring back a destroyed unit. We won't be able to complain too much about being evaporated in a single shooting phase if we can bring that unit back. Wave of Terror changed to either be on a CP spent during the charge phase but can only be activated once per unit, OR, the first unit to make a successful charge move gets to immediately pile in and attack. Either would make WoT a tactical choice, and a reliable one that requires resource management or planning a couple moves ahead, instead of it being totally random and likely to shaft us. Ethereal, when applied to Nighthaunt, incurs a -1 to hit penalty from ranged attacks beyond 6". We're ghosts, fluttering in and out of phase with the plane. We should be harder to hit at a distance. More ways to get casting/unbind bonuses. Or just casting since we have Banshees (who should have a longer range on that ability). And perhaps most importantly remove "wholly" from our 12" Deathless save!
  10. Reikenor has low-key become one of my favorite heroes. Right after Spirit Torment and before Olynder. He's just so useful.
  11. Okay... I didn't mean to I offended you. My own experiences do not, apparently, match your own. I even conceded the point to you based on knowing my experiences don't match yours. Also wasn't aware of my flaunting. I'll do better because that is not the type of presence I want to be. No, of course every player I have ever played with has perfectly protected their general. I don't recall claiming that was the case. What I claimed was I just don't ever have an opponent leaves their general exposed. And I don't. Not since we learned, anyway. Surely there's acceptance for learning. My Cities friend. My Stormcast friend. My KO friend. My Sylvaneth friend. The OBR player I matched up twice randomly over Tabletop Simulator. The other random online match I had that was some sort of demons but not Tzeentch (I don't actually remember because I was so scared at the brand new matchup I've never had before that I literally panicked). No, I don't recall any of them putting their general in harms way without proper screens or other protections. Or, if they did, the general itself wasn't a target I wanted to attack in that scenario or matchup. One of our players, that Cities player I keep referencing? He plays 40k and hosts a mini work tournament every month where the reward is paid time off. Better believe that is cutthroat. He's a tactically sound opponent and a vicious one. He's also my main opponent in AoS. He's the one that wipes me in 1 to 2 turns if I don't rise to his level. I'm not bragging, but getting tabled four, five, six times in a row, you will learn things. If a list I make can beat him in at least 4 different matchups, only then do I post it here for others to try. Mortal Reign, for example, has gone 4-0 if I don't include him, but specifically against him has gone 1-2, which is why I haven't included it yet. It needs work, or I do, and so it's not ready. But, here's the thing! After your last comment, that I agreed with, mind you, I reached out to that very Cities/40K friend and asked him his opinion on if I brought Kurdoss instead of Olynder. Or if I brought them both and trimmed the list elsewhere. He hates my list as is because it's come down to tactical choices that got him his close wins and not sheer power of one army over the other. So if he hates Kurdoss I'll know he's a threat. I'll know later. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings between us. I am not your advisary here. I think we can agree that we want Nighthaunt to rise and be a respected army. It's the people that tear us down that are the ones we should be fighting against. And woe to them if we get a new book soon.
  12. I meant "a bit of dead weight" but you're right, too. I prefer Olynder for that kind of playstyle, but if you think you can catch an out-of-pocket enemy general then I wholly agree he's a badass. I just don't ever have an opponent leaves their general exposed.
  13. Sorry, but here's from the actual book in my hands.
  14. A blob of 9 Spirit Hosts, especially with a Spirit Torment in tow for re-roll 1s, especially especially if he's a general with Ruler of the Spirit Host is a dynamite combo. Average of 1 MW per base, 3 wounds per base, up to 3 models back if they go down, plus the ST healing either themselves if they need it or the odd damage on the Spirit Hosts if they do. But I agree that Kurdoss is a bit of dead weight. He's 180 right now, and his role is very niche. He can steal a CP, sure, but only the 1 your opponent gets at the top of the turn and only on a 5. That can spoil plans for someone who needs it, but a lot of our opponents will shrug and generate more from various other sources and we can't steal those. If that ability expanded to "whenever your opponent would gain a command point, roll a dice" then he would appear in almost every list. Beyond that he's a hero beat stick. He'll do the most raw damage out of all of the other heroes, especially against an enemy general, but is still a 180 point hero. If you are going to throw one away for the damage potential, grab Olynder. It's Reikenor that went down to 160, and that makes him a steal! My version of Mortal Rein has him with the Hexwraiths to be a fast calvary with magic support. His candle snuff ability is way more powerful than people tend to think. Mortek Guard? Snuff a candle on the Mortek Hekatos. Oh look, no more command abilities for that unit. Snuff one on the Necrophoros and reduce that charge and run roll bonus. They made the same model both? Proooooofffffffffiiiiiitttt. Meanwhile Reikenor is casting Wraithstorm to bypass some saves, along with the Hexwraiths getting some MWs out. As far as OBR goes, MW them. That's their weakness. And their Crawlers shut down if you're in combat with them. Avoid Katakros or Nagash if they are on the table unless you're bored.
  15. From the FAQ: Q: Sometimes a dice roll will trigger an effect. For example, a weapon might have a rule that says a hit roll of 6 causes two hits on the target instead of 1. What happens if another effect applies to the same roll? For example, the weapon from the previous example might have a rule that says it inflicts D6 mortal wounds on a hit roll of 6 and the attack sequence ends – would I get to inflict two hits that each inflicted D6 mortal wounds? A: When a dice roll triggers more than one effect, each effect is triggered once. For this example, this means that the hit roll would cause two hits, but only one of the hits would inflict D6 mortal wounds (you would carry out the rest of the attack procedure for the other hit normally). The way I would interpret this (and I asked my Stormcast friend to be sure) is that even though both effects trigger, one of those effects calls for the stop of the attack sequence. So both happen, the MWs and the damage buff, but that buffed damage won't happen because the wound and save rolls will never occur. It's true to note that when an attack generates MWs on a 6 and stops the sequence, that's an effect and not a damage modifier. And the effect is "stop and assign MW(s)." Any modifiers, then, are left hanging.
  16. I can confirm, at least, that they do indeed read every email that comes their way. Not filtered through interns or staff. The rules writers see every one. So write them.
  17. It's in the same vein of how GW writes their rules, how their words-as-written matter. I think we can agree that if we're playing at home they should be legal. If we're playing with ultra-competitive friends, it should still be okay since we won't stand much of a chance without them. It's going to be those that really need a rule or a line in a book that's going to have an issue with it. And for them maybe Warscroll Builder and Azir, when it updates, can be pointed at for proof of their legality. But chances are we're going to need it in the GHB's FAQ release. I wrote them, hopefully everyone else here has too.
  18. I like this list. It's similar to the one I am tooling, but with DG instead of Reapers. (Reddit seems to think we'll get our WD battalions validated in the FAQ) Don't be afraid to put Reik in combat positions. Not to engage, but if you can manage to snuff a candle on an enemy unit every turn after the first then his value increases. If you can snipe a hero or a banner-carrier normie from a unit then that value is immense. I like giving him Lifestealer to heal himself so you can feel more confident bringing him in range. Somewhat the same with Kurdoss. His CP steal can be nice, especially if your opponent was really counting on that CP, but his real function is to accompany a unit that's targeting the enemy general. A single combat round is about all you can expect from him, but if you do some damage and soak the hits then there is his value. Personally, I bench him.
  19. Don't forget Cities. A decent (not even good) shooting or magic focused list will nuke us off the table in short order. Played a game this last weekend against Hallowheart that went half a turn. Lost priority, didn't have any terrain to block line of sight (pre-built). They buffed via spells, went to shooting, sniped every hero and destroyed most of my threat units. Over 60 wounds I couldn't shake. I conceded right then, no sense in wasting time.
  20. I know. Just sucks we appear to be falling back into that. And an old config at that.
  21. I refuse to live in this dark and bleak world. Unless it works. Then I'll run it a couple times and get bored.
  22. I love Harridans, they pack a surprising punch. With a KoS on foot you can get that roll a bit more tasty. KoSoES might be better bang for the CP, though. Either way, I'll be looking into them more when their new points. The rasps are just there to provide Look Out Sir! And act as a screen with a base size that still allows her to use her 10" ability on the turn she zones in. In that particular list that whole bundle is meant to be a distraction capable of assassination. I've been tooling the list since the changes and can get an extra CP bought with it, but the loss of our WD battalions means the second source of mortal wound generation is effectively neutered. I'm still waiting to see if this remains the case, because that will be the difference in a good all-comers list and just another "against the right kind of enemy" list.
