Hey all I'm a newbie to the game and trying to get my head around bloodcrushers. For their points  they seem poor compared to skullcrushers. Can someone let me know what I'm missing here?  Is there some synergies that make them viable?  I'm intending to use the bloodcrushers as an army for casual games.

As @Battlefury mentioned, Mortal Crushers are affected by other buffs than Daemon Crushers and vice versa.

Bloodcrushers can be used to doublefight, which is great as if they can kill an enemy unit with Charge MW + 2 Rounds of Fightning, they can use 3 Bloodtithe to charge right into the next enemy unit. Beside of this, most buffs are available to Blood and Skullcrushers, but are attached to different units. I for my own prefer Skullcrushers as they overall have just the better stats.

    Edit:
I´ve got my Judgements yesterday and wanted to ask you about your opinion on the sculpts. While the Axe and the Skulls are okay, I am really shocked about how bad the quality of the icon is, as it looks like a Happy Meal Toy (also, its really just the icon, not the base which is okay again). Big, round surfaces which lack any detail and are far from the usual GW Quality. I am currently concidering how to add texture. Most propably by using liquid greenstuff to dab some texture on it. Any tips on this one?

  2. Well, I have Foam Trays from Feldherr. They are nice but actually really get troublesome when you have bigger models like monsters, tanks etc.

Then there is the Ikea Samla Series, which is my current storage and transport system. The boxes are cheap, can be easily  stored together, have enough room for most miniatures and are light so transport is no issue. I usualy travel by public transports to out local gw and it is no issue to travel with 2 of these, althrough transport by car is easier with them. Also they can be easily improved with magnetic tape (which is actually just a tape magnets can stick to) so models won´t move around in the box but instead are fixed. Oh, there are also some little clips you can use to keep the lids closed. Either way: Great system.

    Bonesplitterz release?

    Post image

    1. Does anyone recall if this is a new Artwork? As GW currently has a strict "Do not depict if there is no model for it" policy, this actually might be a pretty nice teaser for us! Especially as all Waverns/Drakes in the Pic are very similar and might be therefore based on a model.
    2. This would match the pattern as they also didn´t got a point update, which is a sign that new points may be in the new book.
    3. As Ironjaws got new point Values, this is a clear sign that IJ and BS won´t be merged as rumoured
    4. New Models come either with a bigger Wave of Models (GG, NH or SCE Sancrosanct) or with a dual box in the last time. Therefore chances are good on a Bonesplitters vs XY Box (Fyreslayers might but don´t have to be an option as the box arts are most of the time secret until an official teaser).
    5. We know that this year is supposed to bring us a new Destruction Battletome. While Gutbusters are discussed, BS would be a nice revamp as the green orruks are a typical Warhammer asset

  4. Units running away count as slain. Therefore any rules, that apply when a unit is slain, apply also when a unit runs away. Also models that run away are counted towards mission goals/victory points as if they were slain by an enemy.

Rules like "No Respite" usualy especially mention, that they can be used whenever a Unit is Slayed in the Combat step.

"Dreaded Death Frenzy" of the Verminlord Warbringer doesn´t mention this. Therefore you could use the rule in the battleshock phase, too.

  5. I would assume option 2 as the most possible for gw. A lot of units were already tied together in the shop and I could expect this to happen also to the book. New Artifacts, a cool new Alligience Ability, Spell Lore and Maybe some Sort of Clans could add more then enough depth to the Gutbusters. I could imagine an own Lore of Magic for Firebellies and maybe an additional perk, but no full sub-alligience like f.e. Skaven Skryre in Skaventide.

This kind of release makes the most sense as it is a good for gw in selling stuff as customers may be attracted to a wider range of products and requires a lower ammount of investment than a full new range of models.

  6. Before the Rumour Thread gets out of controll on this topic and mods start wearing hats again, I would like to create a thread for a topic which I really like to discuss about:
    Female Models in our hobby.

I know that people have a lot of different opinions on this topic, therefore I would like anyone participating in the discussion to keep respectful even when opinions differ drasticaly.

This thread is all about female models and anything beyond. From talking new and old sculpts, talking about trends or flaws in GW´s (or other manufacturers) design approach or even about what importance the depiction of women has on our hobby, or even society.
As Kick Off I would simply quote the mentioned rumour thread posts that the discussion started with this time:

Regarding store models, GW are clearly on a gender equality crusade in the last few years. In fact, it's a gender and racial equality crusade. I mean look at the fact that the main character of the comic is a black woman stormcast.

We keep getting female stormcast as store models because they can't make female space marines. They don't want to release two white male characters as store exclusive models.

I suspect this is why sisters of Battle have become a priority for 40k at this moment in time as well.

42 minutes ago, Rogue Explorator said:

Starting with Soulwars they have been releasing almost gender balanced models for those units and armies who would be mixed per lore. So for roughly a year they have been actually modeling releases according to their own lore  where they haven't before, sometimes through decades (cadians for example),  despite a fair amount of request for it. And they probably did it because their current method of designing and dividing sprues actually allows to do so, as much as due to changed sensibilities. And all this they have been doing quietly without much fanfare or attached rethorics.

    I don't really see how that's a crusade.

And they clearly stated that Sisters are coming because of their survey results. Which is quite probably another reason for the change, GW makes an effort these days to at least try and match demand among their customers.

It is definitely tipping more and more female with each release. Even Tree-revenants were all male when released, but the Arch-Revenant is female.  To me this is only a bad thing if they begin ditching their artistic visions in favor of "equality", as things will become more generic (more about representation than creative passion).  Where that line actually is though, is blurry.

Don't worry, I think if you talk to any of the sculptors and designers you'll find they are probably designing more female models because they want to do so and they look frikkin sweet than for any other reason.

Can we agree to call that an end of this discussion before it spirals out if control? You can always start a seperate thread if you wish to debate representation etc

I think that it is certainly plausible

It is very strange that Bonesplitterz and Gutbusters received zero changes, but if they were supposed to get new battletomes before the GHB then we would have seen new units, spells, terrain, battalions, etc. in the GHB. The only explanation is that they were supposed to release very shortly after the GHB.

Well, I am a bit torn between this assumption, that there is something we didn´t see yet due to the pipeline thing beeing stuck and the option that they simply did not changed anything for these Armies. I don´t know Bonesplitters, but I had the opportunity to play Gutbusters for some time and the current points for them are allright in my opinion. Yes, they lack a bit of a punch but thats rather due to the missing Alligiance and 2.0 polish than to point values beeing too high.

Nevertheless, I really look forward into the Sylvaneth Release as I hope that we might get a lot of cool stuff that was delayed afterwards.

By the way, I am also curious how this will affect gw´s value as a company and if they decide on some changes, like keeping parts of production in europe.

But....wait....When we expect that there is a stucked pipeline, how can it be that GHB19 releases without delay?

  8. Hello, I have some questions about how Endless Spells work when Allying units in:

All begins with a simple question: Are Faction Specific Endless Spells part of a factions Alligience or are they available to all factions and only bound to the casters Keyword restriction from their Warscroll?

Also there are questions that follow up:

    1. When I Ally an Wizzard from another faction, can I also use the Endless Spells of this faction?
    2. Do I count the Spells into the Ally-Point Restriction?
    3. When a Unit can have my Main Alligience, but it´s keyword also allows me to cast Endless Spells from another Factions (Verminlord-Corruptor f.e. can be used in a Nurgle Army and still fullfills requirements to cast Skaven Endess Spells), can I cast them?

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

@lord_blackfang     While I haven’t tried the new bases yet I do have the  Vallejo grey surface primer which I use quite often. It’s almost white when airbrushed; in fact it’s so close to a true white you won’t notice that it isn’t unless you actually put white on top or beside it.

How do you get it through the Airbrush? It clogs almost instantly in my Airbrush whenever I try to airbrush it 😮

I´ve decided to try drybrushed shades with contrast paints today. Both techniques were new to me and I am pretty happy about the outcome. So far the mini has a Valejo Black Surface Primer Coat, drybrush with Celestra Grey, Ulthuan grey and light layer of ceramite white (which added a bit of unwanted texture due to the size of the pigments, won´t repeat this). Afterwards I´ve added Blood Angels Red on the Skin. I really love the current look and have even concidered to keep the miniature this way without changing a lot beside some minor details.

This has been covered multiple times in this thread, now that it’s reached the 200+ mark I’ve noticed a lot of repeat debates, questions etc should we insert a FAQ in a post on the first page?

I like the idea of an pinned FAQ but I do not know if the people who are able to change the initial post have the ressources to gather these questions together

40k is quite different in that case because there rules say, that you have to be in 1" to the enemy or in 1" to a unit that is in 1" to the enemy. (If they don't use different rules for apo)

It mostly makes a difference in case of 25mm Bases but shouldn't make much difference in case of 32mm and 40mm

This "First and Second Rank Fights" Rule is something I actually really enjoy each single time I get to 40k again. It makes the game so much smoother and faster and also leads to less frickly situations where players spend unnecessary amounts of time to max out the number of fightning units. I guess the range of weapons were supposed in AoS to make this more uniform but with different base sizes this is yet a messy spot in the rules. Also the fact that units cannot charge into 3" but have to end in 1" to the enemy makes fightning with ranks with different weapons weird. You either get charget or have to make some weird formation. At this point the rules for AoS 3.0 shall be maybe cleaned up a bit. Ot maybe it is just me and my playgroup that dislikes that current way how things are handled.

  12. So, another two weeks without AoS Releases means pipeline is still stucked.

Meanwhile the movement trays may be a nice thing. I will get some for 40k as moving 40 Necron Warriors gives me a headache every game. Maybe they will be a thing for aos too

So with the new point drop I decide to make a mad max std army.

    Chaos lord on mount

    4 chaos chariot

    4 gorebeast chariot

    2 marauder horsemen

    5 chaos knights

    Ruinbringer warband

For now its 2020 pt but next week its  going  to be 2000.

Once the battalion ability activated, my army will  make 16 d3 mortal damage across the board, which is on average 32 mortal damage.

Looks nice and I am quite curious how it will work on the table. There are some things that yet do not look quite right to me:
-Chariots are 1-3 not for matched play from what I saw. I wouldn´t wonder if Gorebeast ones were the same.
-A Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Mount is always a good addition. The rerolls from Daemonic Might are great, the free Arcane Shield also never hurts.
    -I would concider more Knights.

What Marks do you want to use? Khorne would be great for  the Bloodstroker buff. 3 Gorebeast Chariots with a Stroker-Buff could really be insane!

All in all it looks like a nice theme army! I would love to see some batreps

  14. Actually like 60% of our Units need a reduction.

My "Wishlisting" would look like this:
    Chaos Lord - 120
Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount - is fine, 140
Chaos Lord on Manticore - 230
    Chaos Sorcerer Lord - 130
Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Manticore - 200
    Daemon Prince - is fine
    Exalted Hero - 60 pt

    Chaos Warriors - 80/440
    Chaos Knights - 150
Marauders and Chariots- according to the new adjustments
Chaos Chosen - 140 is quite ok I guess
Warshringe - 160 is ok, too

All 3 Battalions could get like 30-50 pts cheaper.

I am curious what GW will do with the StD within the Darkoath-Book. We can assume a Skaven/BEast of Chaos alike shared Army for several Alligiences, therefore Everchosen and Darkoath will have their own abilities loose from Slaves.

The current Slaves Alligience is all about heroes killing heroes and monsters to go for the eye of gods, and minor buffs to our basic units with the marks and auras. Basically it looks like the set up for an army which utilizes great beatstick heroes to slam our enemies heroes/centerpieces and a passive buff system which bases on marks. The tought is great, just the way gw did it is awfull.

How could one do it better? Well, that ain´t so hard at all! WISHLISTING BELOW!

    Spoiler

    EYE OF THE GODS

The current warscrolls give us plently of beatsticks, with Lords having minor support and sorcerer lords having a major support role. So the core ain´t bad at all. The Lord on Manticore buffs our Warriors with a neat bunch of rerolls. Thats grat. Also Lord on Mount supports our Knights and Chariots, which is good synnergy and also fluffy. The same for Sorcerer Lords: Great buffing capabilties on the normal/mounted! The one on Manticore looks like it wants to be an offensive caster, which it could be with a buff to the manticore.

So changing the heroes Warscroll would be enough in terms of giving the Manticore a better profile (Claws to DMG 2 should be enough. Or give the tail some "venom" rule for MW´s. Maybe by turning it into a degrading moonblade with D3 MW on a degrading roll).

The bigger issue is the reward mechanic imbued into "Eye of the Gods". It is not enough of a reward for what it requires. An StD Armies should be able to build around there rewards to play for them and to utilize them in a way that gives us the game changing advantage. There are two easy ways this could be achived that come to my mind right now:

    1. Less rewards, but the player decides which he wants to pick.
    2. Rewards that apply to the whole army and not just the slayer.

An example for the first version: Keep the goodstuff, like adding +1 to saves or damage or rend. Remove Dark Aposthesis. Let players choose each reward only once per battle. Include Spawndom nevertheless for fluff reasons. Change the current table from "1-3 Spawndom 4-6 Daemon Prince" into "2+ Daemon prince, 1 Spawndom". By this the "egoistic" part, chasing for might, becoms at least valuable enough so we can try to win a game with it. Ambush your enemy with 2-3 Heroes and roll who may get better. It would be a way to compensate missing summoning by being able to buff our heroes. GW would sell tons of DP models btw.

For the second idea we could get a chart which includes armywide rules. Like giving the whole army a +1 to hit for the turn, debuffing enemy morale by one, getting a bonus to casts, gaining a "fight first" chance on a roll etc.. Theese rules could be worth fishing for them to buff all Slaves. While this suggestion looks quite OP at the first glance, the fact that we have to chase enemy heroes down to get them is a quite serious drawback. Also, the table could be split into 5 a 3 rewards, one for each god and one "undecided". This way players would keep the direction of their army whilst still going for a random reward. Also this would be a great way to dampen its power as f.e. KHORNE BUFFS could also only apply on KHORNE Units.

Both suggestions could be implented in many different ways.

    AURA OF CHAOS

The second ability that defines the Slaves to Darkness is their divine patrons gift. The current way gw has written these rules is just a joke: Reroll ones if you are within the holy X inch. X depends on fluff and not on how good the buff actually is. Also all buffs are useless. Just make the buffs better. At this point, gw really shouldn´t be afraid to give some great rules to us, like:

    • Nurgle: Each NURGLE unit (wholly?) within a NURGLE HERO gains the "Disgustingly Resilient" rule
    • Slaanesh: -1 to Hit against a SLAANESH unit (wholly?) within a SLAANESH HERO
    • Tzeentch: Ignore all modifiers to save rolls (positive and negative) for TZEENTCH UNITS (wholly?) within TZEENTCH HEROES.
    • Khorne: Increase the attack characteristic of each KHORNE UNIT (wholly?) within of 8" of an KHORNE HERO
    • Unmarked: UNMARKED CHAOS Units within of X inch an UNMARKED CHAOS HERO automaticaly pass battleshock tests

While some of this suggestions sound OP, especially with my suggestions to "EYE OF THE GODS", you have to concider that each unit can only benefit from one of the gods. You can easily mix units of different patrons, but still have a tax by the fact that you require a hero to trigger them. Thoose Rules would alter each warscroll in a fluffy way, giving us a ton of options. And yes, I know, the KEYWORDS I used are not optimal but hey, this is just wishlisting! The point behind it is: Whilst our heroes are out for killing and glory, their presence inspires our warriors. By this the army can have a heavier focus on beatstick heroes which they couldn´t handle otherwise.

ARTIFACTS, COMMAND TRAITS AND SPELL LORES

With the suggested rules, a few opportunities for new artifacts occur. I belive that including 1-3 god specific options would add a great flair. Like having 1-3 Khorne Artifacts, 1-3 Tzeentch Ones and so on. This way army building would be even more diverse. Unmarked options would have also a pretty nice new flair: currently existing "Mark of the all-flavoured" would be great as enabler for a multi god army: Snap it on your hero and let him become a buff-beacon. The design of the artifact rules should be a bit more aggresive: Great upsides combined with some drawbacks would go well with the theme of warriors that would do anything for power. Desecrator Gauntlets are fluffwise an great example right now. How about an artifact that allows us to do more attacks but deals mortal wounds in exchange? Would be great to risk that life of a hero in the hope to get him into ascension via EYE OF THE GODS.

The Command Traits could also be used to support the theme: Increasing the range of all AURA OF CHAOS Abilities triggered by a Hero? Great! Offensive buffs allowing our general to get better into contact with enemies to land that killing blow? Great! Some neat abilities to decrease morale to show how terrific chaos warriors are? I´d love it! So many possibilities here!

For the Spells, I would love a full (6 Spells wide) unmarked chaos lore. Adding 1-3 Spells for each god, which may be copypasta from existing books, would be fine too. But having an actual lore of chaos would be a great thing. With daemonic strength-buffs, some big and bad magic to smite our enemies and so on.It´s currently one of the biggest thing that I miss: Some way to flesh out our magicans. This could also include the (obligatory) Endless Spells. Give us something as half as cool as the Beast of Chaos Spells and I´m all in!

When I (re)read the news on the comunity, I'm not reassured for a battletome for my StD. I expected more for this army, not just some little points adjustments (BTW, I lve the unit of 3 chariots, I expect them to remains single after deployment).

Same thoughts for some other armies. I dunno where NighHaunt is going, but reapers have been hard hit (as expected).

I'm afraid that FEC and Skaven will get the same hammer treatment.

Points change won't help much BCR: they need up to date rules and magic (ES) (same for some others like IJ & KO)

Checking out the statistics on competetive play, Slaves to Darkness are the single worst army in the meta by results so far:
    https://thehonestwargamer.com/aos-2-2-final-stats-13th-june-2019/
The only thing lower in the List is Tamurkhans Horde, which simply was never used in a tournament so far.

With the Slaanesh Book the only decent list we had was not only nerfed, no, we simply had a key hero removed (So no double fightning of Slaanesh Marked Knights).

I am honestly in doubt when we may expect StD to hit the floor. My local GW is even taking the Darkoath Warqueen from the shelfs this week, which also doesn´t seem to be a good sign.

Also the Darkoath-Flair teased so far suggest simply a completly different army from what Slaves to Darkness were before. The tribesmen flair has some cool gimmicks but all in all I loves StD for beeing heavy armoured warriors of incredible might. Right now Chaos Warriors are rather a joke. The miniatures may look decent as legacy army, but as soon as any new models hit the table, Warriors just look silly and small due to scale creep.

It´s actually a shame that an army I started which so much ambition and which made so much fun to build and paint is now the main reason for frustration in the hobby for me. I am also more and more afraif of what GW will to to the MArk of Chaos-System. I woulnd´t be suprised with GW cutting the marks at some point.

Yeah, StD really need some love.

Btw.: What was actually the last release we had? Wasn´t it Looncurse? So we are actually over a month with the pipeline beeing stucked by trade war? I am curious in how many releases we may expect, once that GW has a workaround for that. I mean, I wouldn´t wonder if GW original timeline had us already teased the next 1-2 Battletomes already at Warhammer Fest. Maybe thats a reason why Gutbusters/Bonesplitters aren´t about to expect point drops

Does anybody know, if all the conditions (like 0 behemoth amd 0-1 leader) have to be met at once? So can I play a leader who is a behemoth in thr spearhead or not?

Gecktron has already pointed out in the Rumour-Thread that it´s easier to understand in a table-Format:

You need at least a Leader and a Battleline Unit which are the Main Body. From what I´ve understood anything else is optional. So even BCR should be able to field something within point range

  17. Are you playing StD or a god given Alligience? This has actually a quite big influence as most Greater Daemons often buff units that belong to their god.

-> GUOs and Glottkin give Nurgle (Mortals) +1 Attack with their Command Ability

-> Various Bloodthirsters give Rerolls for Khorne Units

->Tzeentch Birdie gives a "+X to cast" Aura for Tzeentch Wizzards

If your Army is unbound, each of them rather looses in strength as they loose access to their spells, artifacts and traits.

Verminlords are too many different Profiles, you would have to check if any one of them has any worth to you. Concider that each buff you can´t use is a part of wasted points in that units profile.

This also applies to Archaon, at least as long as he and his Varanguard are not within our Alligience.

I´m sorry that this rather looks like a "nope, no real value hidden" post, but until we get that sweet new StD Book we all dream about, we have to stay patient or live with rather expensive and semioptimal units to use as big guys. I for my own started for my StD´s with a Slaughterbrute which was rather meh, then I´ve got a Soul Grinder which was quite ok actually. Then I switched to play StD Alligience into Khorne Alligience, got some buff heroes, some nice hardhitters which StD lack and...yeah, I now play Blades of Khorne until that new book hits the stores.

  18. Another little tought I´ve had:

A Daemon Prince of Khorne with the Artifact Blade from Ulgu that gives D6 MW´s on a to Hit of 6+ against Heroes and Monsters is a nice blender. Due to the inherited +1 to hit due to the mark of khorne it already triggers on a 5+, with Killing Frenzy on a 2+. Also, as it has the Daemon-Keyword, you can fight twice when playing the right Slaughterhost.

  19. Hej guys,

I need your help. ow can I use Chaos Warriors in a manner that isn´t ending in total disappointment? I always tried the maxed 30 Warriors Blobb along with the Lord on Manticore and other Buffs, but the Warriors ended always being lackluster. What is the magic number to them? 10? 15?

    SCE: good changes.

Well there are a few possibilities where you can go to a 2+ save.

Khorne for example have the perefect unit and buffs to do so.

similar options are open for some seraphon units.

in Khorne we have the Skullcrushers, who already have a natural 3+save.

you can even upgrade that save to a 2+with the bronzen flesh prayer, and if your interested to go even further you could cast daemonic power (from a allied chaos sorcerer lord) on that unit for a reroll of hit, wound and save rolls of 1, making that unit almost unkillable against non rend units.

seraphon in the other hand have the temple guard, who are rather costly for their price.

still you can upgrade their save by just having a hero nearby, and if you think that a 2+ is needed to keep you save look no further than at the battalions (which names of I don’t really know) that can give the temple guards a 2+ save.

so yeah cheese like this is something that still exist in the game.

although not many units/armies have it.

    luckily

Yeah, I know of these Possibilities :) But all thoose are at least affected by rend, whilst Idoneth Eels ignore any Rend modifier. While it is hard to stop a unit with a 2+, it is much harder to stop a unit with a 2++, especially when they have enough wounds so Mortal Wounds don´t do harm to them as quick
