  1. So my group are looking at a 1250pt league and I'm thinking good time to finally collect my Slaanesh force. I've gone with a Godseekers army leaning on the MW output of the chariots, and using cogs for a +2 to charge for more DP. What do you think? Will be going up against new Sylvaneth, Bloodbound and likely SC with 2 dragons. 2. We can finally lay the soup rumours to rest.
  3. It says the box includes warscrolls and tokens. So either they're new for 3rd edition and the books are coming out with it, or they're the 2.0 versions which, whilst not as valuable as the miniatures, I think would be off to invalidate them soon after by releasing the 3rd ed books later. Including the tokens and warscrolls sounds like a way to make a print run for a standalone warscrolls/token product a la SCE and Warclans to me. So sticking with the books are coming alongside it and just aren't announced yet. Can see myself doing IDK if there's a book, though I do wish Namarti had eyes.
  4. Is it wrong I both cheered and then felt bad when my pessimistic view of the world got a like from Whitefang? You've a point with Kruleboyz, and I think the timing is absolutely relevant because clearly there has been a change in strategy as to what GW was going to do when it first launched AoS, but to reinforce my point, the vast majority of those collections (Order Serpentis and Deadwalkers can hardly be called armies) wouldn't have been able to support book releases. If they could have, there definitely would have been a book IMHO. A Dwarf slayer army can clearly exist by itself and support a book as can a witch elf army without rolling in some old dwarf kits or Kharadron, who again can clearly carry their own book, or a brand new release dark elf army being rolled into DoK. We know this because FS and DoK both had two books each, they wouldn't bother if they didn't make any money. If they can make another book product, why wouldn't they. Bonesplitterz had a book and now they don't, so clearly they couldn't carry their own, but that's maybe due to timing. Hence Warclans. Cities is a compendium of old stuff, broadly speaking Legions was too. By taking those old kits and combining them together, they got 2 books to sell out of it, no-way would have that have been able to happen with the parts. That's not the same as rolling in armies who can viably support a profitable product like a battletome. My prediction and my opinion is that Fyreslayers and Kharadron Overlord will remain separate, and dispossessed will stay in Cities of Sigmar, and there will be a book for each because profit.
  5. I think there’s a lot of wishful thinking and that sets a lot of us up for disappointment, so here’s my 2 cents on what will happen: - IDK will get their 1 new character and a new battletome, and FS will get their 1 new character and a new battletome. Both battletomes will be released either alongside or just after the battle box. - FS and DOK will not get souped. Why? Because then they couldn’t sell 4 different books e.g. fyreslayers, cities of sigmar, dok, dark elf-ineth. There will be no souping. - dark elf-ineth will not be called umbraneth. Why? Because the community invented it, and they can’t trademark it. They will be what Lumineth are to high elves and i wouldn’t be surprised if the darkling covens models are retired to make way. - there will be no silent people models and there will be no dawnbringer crusades models. It’s just lore. SCE and CoS are the dawnbringer crusades models. - no existing faction will get more than a new foot hero or a new WU warband. Majority of new kits will be reserved for dark elf-ineth, grungni dwarves or chaos dwarves, of which only one of these factions will appear this year, but all before the next edition. - SCE will always be the poster boy of AOS. That’s my prediction.
  6. Voted for Be’lakor and then got him for xmas. Dark magic at play.
  7. Doesn’t annoy me that they’ve gone up in points. it annoys me that there’s another part of a new book that costs £30 that’s been rewritten and it’s only been out 3(?) months. Half a mind to ask for a refund
  8. Look like Dominion is no longer on the GW site. - I ended up with a draw yesterday playing our first practice game for a doubles tournament in December. Took 5 hours so managing time is something we definitely need to work on! We played tectonic interference. My 1K list is below, I paired up with a KO player using an Endrinmaster, Aether-khemist, Admiral, 2x 10 Arkanauts, 5 Thunderers in a Gunhauler, 3 Endrinriggers and a bottled shackles endless spell. My assumption being that whereas normally you'd have raptors softening up the target for the fulminators, the KO could do it instead. We were fighting 2 Kraken-Eaters and a KB force consisting of a 1 Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof, Shaman, 2x10 Gutrippaz, 10 Hobgrots, 3 Boltboyz and 1 Killbow. Some highlights: took down a kraken-eater on round 1, who promptly landed on the KB's shooting units Bastian one-shotted the Killaboss The kraken-eater general, using roar and a pair of magic sandals, one-shotted Bastian We destroyed all the kruleboyz and the SCE ended with just the incantor alive We drew the game by having 2 arkanauts to spare. The Kraken-eater general, who also had the 5+ amulet ended the game on 2 wounds. Had either of those units been killed, one of us wouldn't have been able to complete our grand strategy and lost We made some mistakes along the way and my opponent quickly realised that roaring and tagging the fulminators so they couldn't charge blunted them a fair bit. Whilst Steadfast March allowed us to get a turn 1 charge off, which resulted in much of the damage to the first kraken-eater, losing the liberators meant Bastian was very exposed and so call to aid might have been more beneficial. In hindsight, I needed to use redeploy more to get the fulminators in a position where I could charge again. I tried to rally them in 2 turns and both times rolled a 4. Requiring a 6 feels just too unlikely at the cost of a command point. Looking at some of the recent lists in this thread, I don't think my army selection is too far off. Again, Call to Aid might be a better choice. I was wondering about whether I should: switch 1 of the units of fulminators to Raptors to augment the KO shooting, which was incredibly swingy. Switch the Incantor to a vexillor to help redeploy the fulminators and save 5 points for a triumph, or I need to find 20 points for a relictor with translocation. Sacrifice the 1 drop for a hunters battalion to protect the fulminators from roar, but then I don't have enough units for any other core battalion Thoughts? 9. I had a first practice game yesterday ahead of a doubles tournament in early December. It's going to be 3x 3 Hour games. How do you deal with the time limit? Ours went all 5 turns and took all-in-all around 5 hours. We were discussing after, is it just wise to assume we'll be playing to turn 3 and get timed out? Or maybe the opponent will be so much better than us we'll get obliterated long before then! There was an element of rules checking and stopping for a quick drink which we'd cut out - but otherwise how do you manage time in a tournament game? And are there any other tips anyone can share for a first tournament?
  10. Yeah true. i want to take Bastian but feel things like Fulminators are somewhat wasted in Hammers compared to Vindicators or Warbringers. Tricky!
  11. Thanks I realised it says ‘of an attack’. ok interesting.
  12. On the warbringer versus vindicators debate, CW’s re-roll is the entire roll right, so could actually give you a worse result? is there anything stopping taking a hammers of sigmar named character with a stormhost other than hammers of sigmar? Except for the fact that certain abilities on a warscroll may not work because they the HoS keyword.
  13. So I'm likely going to a double tournament in December at a local store and I'm teaming up with a COS player. I'm not 100% sure of what he's running yet, but having played him before, he castled up behind a load of handgunners and greatswords, though he also has some SCE and KO to add in to the mix. I know for sure I'll be up against a SoB/Kruleboyz combo. Playing around with 1,000 point lists assuming the CoS will be shooty and defensive, what do you think to these? I'm going to have to buy most of this, so any comments appreciated. List 1 - Stormkeep Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals- Stormhost: Hammers of Sigmar- Grand Strategy: Sacred Charge- Triumphs:LeadersLord-Commander Bastian Carthalos (300)*Knight-Incantor (125)*- General- Command Trait: Master of Magic- Artefact: Arcane Tome (Universal Artefact)- Spell: Celestial BladesBattleline2 x Dracothian Guard Fulminators (230)*2 x Dracothian Guard Fulminators (230)*5 x Liberators (115)*- Heavens-wrought Weapon and Shield- 1x GrandweaponsCore Battalions*Battle RegimentAdditional EnhancementsHoly Command: Steadfast MarchTotal: 1000 / 1000Reinforced Units: 0 / 2Allies: 0 / 200Wounds: 47Drops: 1 The view here is that Bastian's Thunderborn ability will be able to chip away at key heroes and those pesky Mega-gargants my mate will be running. If I'm reading that right, it's 35 dice and each 6+ does a MW? My only concern is Bastian's speed versus the Fulminators. Scion might solve that, but then he's off the table for a hero phase. Other consideration was whether to put the troops in Hunters battalion instead and forego the one-drop. List 2 - Scions Fairly standard right? Assumes the CoS playing will be doing the shooting... Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals- Stormhost: Knights Excelsior- Grand Strategy:- Triumphs:LeadersLord-Imperatant (175)*- General- Command Trait: Master of Magic- Artefact: Arcane Tome (Universal Artefact)- Spell: Lightning BlastKnight-Vexillor (120)*- Pennant of the StormbringerBattleline6 x Annihilators with Meteoric Grandhammers (480)*- Reinforced x 15 x Protectors (225)*Core Battalions*Battle RegimentAdditional EnhancementsHoly Command: Unleash Thy HatredTotal: 1000 / 1000Reinforced Units: 1 / 2Allies: 0 / 200Wounds: 46Drops: 1 Not decided on Grand Strategy yet and replaced Relictor w/Translocation with a Vexillor and the Pennant for redeploying the annihilators. - The other idea I'm playing around with is a defensive sacrosanct list to hold objectives. Otherwise, can Gotrek be allied in at 1K pts and is it worth it?
  14. Which I think is why the Mortal Realms was created. With a fixed map like the Old World, it was very difficult to justify how certain armies fought each other, it was always a bit contrived - whereas with 40K, they can just make up planets. That's effectively how I see the realms - fantasy planets. There's even space battles. In the beginning, they were just undefined sand-boxes for everyone to fight their battles, create lore like you have. But not everyone can do that, so now we have maps and places and stuff, but there's always a hidden realm gate, undefined areas, gaps between, above or below the realms, that allows players to do this. I suspect there's pocket-realms and the like as well. The Mortal Realms are much well-suited to our hobby IMO, just a little while to get there.
  15. I think if it was obvious there was a demand for tomb kings and Bretonnia, they wouldn’t have been cut from the range to begin with. Things like the necrosphinx and tomb guard being cut despite being relatively new kits only highlights this further IMO.
  16. Space to put them down from Scions, we actually played on 6x4 but it was difficult to find a gap that 9" away from multiple units. Can see the value in the Imperant. The javelins were better than expected shooting wise, but then Sylvaneth have relatively low saves. Didn't get to fight in combat with, they charged a unit a Dryads but the unit had died to the retributors before I got chance to attack. However, on reading the statline I was like, should have modeled them with shockaxes
  17. Played a 2K game with the new book today with what Stormcast I own i.e. pre-Dominion. Was good fun, we played the first battleplan in the GHB21 as I was refreshing the core rules and learning my new book, whilst it was my opponent's first game of 3rd Ed. He played Sylvaneth (Drycha, Treelord Ancient, Treeman, 2x 20 Dryads, 10x Tree-Revenants, 3x Hunters with Scythes, 3x Hunters with Swords, 2x Branchwychs) We called it after the first turn in Round 3, by which point I'd taken the middle and left flank, nailing the 6 kurnoth hunters with the Sequitors and Judicators, whilst my Paladins killed 20 Dryads, 10 Tree-revenants, Drycha and a Branchwych. Sadly I didn't get to use either of my unique command abilities (Unleash thy hatred or Call for aid) but Rally and All-out Attack were super useful. I got good value from my Decimators and Retributors I feel, and the Sequitors outperformed themselves. Lost four models overall. Unfortunately the Sylvaneth couldn't put up with the high armour saves or deal enough mortal wounds to really damage my force. Translocation was crucial to the win though - I used Scions on the Retributors and Decimators and both failed their charges, even with re-rolling one of them with a CP. Being able to Translocate and then move made it much easier to get in charge range. Space was an issue for scions and indeed Ride the winds aetheric on the Palladors, I'd probably go Stormkeep next time, just not easy to drop in behind. 18. I’m on the opinion that the faction core battalions are fine, simply because the effects are the same, the composition is just intended to be more flavoursome. No bother there, it’s not balance shattering at all. However - I’m definitely not buying anything that doesn’t have a 3rd ed battletome. The fact that there are so many erratas, warscrolls in books all over the place and now the addition of wd content means I’ll wait for it to be printed properly in one book. and then look forward to the errata to that.
  19. I’ve always liked Phoenix guard in my stormcast army, for the 4+ ward and provide bodies which is something we lacked (though stormkeep rules help with that). I even converted mine to have sce helmets (female ones because the male ones are massive on their slight elves frames) and replaced the spear tips with vanguard sword blades to give myself ‘baby stormcast’ as a mate put it. Super resilient and helps stop my mate’s rampaging terrorghiest and flayers.
  20. Warhammer Underwaterworlds - I dig it. I've disliked the cover art for every season except this one, which looks like a proper GW piece of art, unlike Shadespire.
  21. Agree with this, I think we want to include Stormdrake guard and a Knight, but the rest of the army will want to be built up from elsewhere.
  22. @Sprues&Brews - thanks for pointing this out. While extra Core Battalions may worry some people, they don’t add any new bonuses over what is available in the Core Book, just different ways of getting those bonuses – for example 3-6 Troops can be taken as a One-drop Deployment, or 2 Troops and an Artillery can be taken as Slayers (Free Unleash hell once per game) – combined with those in the Core Book this again gives people lots more options for list building without feeling restricted.
