I've received my feast of bones boxes: how do you build :

    - the ogors? is there some options or all weapons count as the same?

    - the leadbelchers: same question

Ogors - the weapons are all the same. Your only choice is between two weapons  and a weapon plus ironfist loadouts.

Leadbelchers - All the cannons count as the same.

Is a full mounted army viable?

Several Ironblasters behind some mournfangs units and few big dady stonehorns/thundertusks

Of course! That's pretty close to the spirit of BCR! A mountain of beastflesh and ogor avalanching towards your opponent.

This style of army used to really struggle with objective holding. However the new rule where monsters and ogors count as more bodies for objective capturing was aimed specifically at combating this weakness. Its hard to say how effective this rule change will be until more people try it out.

The Ogor and Leadbelcher bodies are identical, it's just an arm and head swap - they fit perfectly. The set should come with the Leadbelcher cannon sprue which would give you enough bitz to make 4 Leadbelchers if you use two additional Ogor bodies. The existing plastic Ogor kits are all compatible with each another, even the riders on the big beasties have the same arm, head and gutplate fittings as the various Ogors on foot.

Gareth speaks the truth. It is a supremely modular model line that not only makes kit bashing easy, but encouraged. On top of that the ironblaster is the same kit as the gnoblar scrap launcher and has a large amount of extra fun bits no matter which build you end up going with. Happy feasting!

I’m hoping it’s possible to field a proper ogre army like the old days rather than just mashing BCR and Gutbusters together with no synergy between the two like the ironjawz and Bonesplittas. I do fear that we will just be Slaanesh fodder though because of the low save multi wound models, not that everyone else isn’t Slaanesh fodder anyway haha.

Oh wow, I had not considered how all these regenerating wounds is going to be even worse for ogors vs slaanesh. Well...good thing I'm our group's slaanesh guy too. Haha!

  5. So I take a Contorted Epitome and Infernal Enrapturess and then...just not do anything in particular. Then watch tzeentch crumple under the might of Slaanesh and his/her seemingly magical supremacy. :P

It's legitimately good advice if you play chaos to ally in a Contorted Epitome.

Btw, as rules state beeing within 1" to terrain that is between our own model and an model our opponent controll grants cover, this mean the mawpot grants also cover, at least from 3 sides. It could be also argued that standing on the pot or howdah does the same, nevertheless it is not required as the fluffy, blue marked area, is the perfect place for a butcher :)

Its beautiful. The only thing it is missing is a gnoblar or two stirring the pot.

  7. @TheWilddog basically beat me to it.

I'm afraid the only way you're going to make AoS "balanced" is by putting rules creation in the hands of people who are not associated with the sale of the models themselves. For the most part, every codex and every rule supplement has to be bigger and better than the last. I dont think any of us blame GW for being that way. I think we all understand.

Its up to passionate people like the fine folks who post on this forum day in and day out to make the kind of game we all want to see. I think something like that is the only way a "balanced" game is going to happen. I whole-heartedly challenge any of you to prove me right!

  8. Posting as someone who does not participate in tournaments. The majority of my playtime is with an established group of friends and basement games.

I'd say I enjoy meeting engagements to the point that it is my preferred way to play 1000pt games. I've seen a lot of success with my gutbusters who have all been but shelved up until now.

    My favorite features:

    • I like the depth added with the layered deployment style
    • Limited unit sizes help keep everyone on a more level playing field.
    • Late deployment on behemoths keep them at high wound counts but keeps them from running rampant.
    • The four turn limit has felt like a sweet spot

Those have been my personal and biased experiences. I've won more games with my gutbusters since GH19 has dropped than I have in the last two years. This fills me with great joy.

My dislikes are that the list-building gets ever more complicated in what is already (in my opinion) an overly complicated endeavor. I also dislike the 3" deployment rules. In practice it has felt clunky and I see potential for it to be abused. I have definitely played games where I nearly fill up my entire alloted deployment phase. Summoning feels no better in this game variant than it does in other low point games.

But no, you're perception is totally validated. I don't see much buzz about it either. Which is a shame as its quickly becoming one of my favorite game types. I encourage everyone to try it at least once.

To be perfectly honest, if I were new and coming into the tourney scene, and someone told me they'd prepared a curated tournament environment for me where the most problematic elements of the scene are curbed in favour of a less negative gaming experience, I'd just drop AoS then and there. It tells me the game isn't balanced at all and wasn't made with competitive play in mind.

Consider running meeting engagements instead of standard maybe?

ME de-bloats the game in a lot of ways by removing stacked horde buffs, limiting what you can wombo combo for allegiance stuff, and staggering out deployment so entire armies aren't ramming into each other turn 1.

Also it's 1k points working off 2x MSU at the most. That's a hell of a lot more accessible than pretty much any of the other tryhard options, especially for new players.

I will second this suggestion. I've had great success commanding previously underperforming armies within the confines of Meeting Engagements for the reasons soak314 mentions above.

  10. Hello DarrinTheOccult. I think your suggestion is a fine idea for bringing a modicum of balance to Path to Glory. Unfortunately I think a group that plays Paths to Glory just need to be able to find the fun in throwing two unbalanced armies at one another (something I'd wager most gaming groups find difficult).

My only other suggestions would be to allow the player with the smaller point value pick the terrain or even setup the table to give them a different kind of advantage. Or ally in x number of points from a buddies list who is also playing in the same grand alliance. Or switch it up every time! Its all about the story right?

    Happy gaming.

I don't really see why all of death and demons need bravery ten. Makes them nearly immune just ok that. Maybe the slaughter of their allies tears at the bonds that keep them reanimated or summoned or whatever. Just give them normal values for bravery. It's an abstraction anyway.

This is very reminiscent of how undead instability worked in old warhammer fantasy. Once the undead heroes were defeated the rest of the army started to take battleshock type damage every round until they withered away. I remember it being very evocative watching the opponent's force degrade after you finally managed to take out that big nasty hero.

On a somewhat related note, miniwargaming has started a "How to fix Age of Sigmar" series. They brushed upon this topic in their "Are hordes too powerful" video. An amusing alternative they proposed was turning inspiring presence into something that just adds a bonus to a units bravery as opposed to making them immune to battleshock. The idea being this would effectively protect more elite units from suffering those feel-bad battleshock losses while still allowing horde type units to get crushed (albeit slightly less so). It was an interesting suggestion!

The key to using all those models is being Invaders. Ssyl'esske needs to be a General to be worth it and to use her as a General you need to be Invaders. Masque is a flanking suicide and harry piece, and when she dies you get another CP. She often pilled in from 6" to exactly 3" to tie in a deathstar unit and hold them in place for a few turns and maybe got a few extra DP. I also did this with the hellstriders and the battalion, which was amazing.

Shalaxi stayed near the keeper and one shot characters all weekend. She even ground out a bunch of Witches before dying in my DoK match up when I couldn't get to the Cauldron and it isn't worth trying to go after Morathi with her. She one shot Durthu, 2 different opponent's Magmadroths, and an ethereal Vampire on ZD... along with quite a few 5-6 wound heroes. Shalaxi is really good piling in twice per turn, every turn(if even needed) haha. It's hard to do that if you aren't generating 5 CP's per turn.

Thank you for the tactical advice! I had not considered using my 6" pile-ins like that before.  What a devious idea.
