  1. Yeah the waiting is almost too much, although crimson court turned up yesterday so at least I’ve got something to be getting on with. Really intrigued where we as a grand alliance go from here; Broken Realms Teclis basically took a dump on us. Manfred was the only one who came out of it looking somewhat good and that involved him cutting his losses and then doing classic Manfred type stuff.

  2. Yeah ordered mine this morning too, but I’m ditching my old vamp and starting afresh so need some variety for my vampire lords. All round bases will break my heart but be much more aesthetically pleasing.

Had a farewell game with legions as well, Vhodrai is still a beast. Hope he makes it through...

The case for May is pretty strong, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

The other issue is we don't really want to be an edition closer. Depsite every time they have said an army book, codex or battletome that comes out very near to the end of an edition was made with the next edition in mind; it never is.

  4. So long as we have something akin to Vampiric powers (and bloodline bonuses through subfaction stuff) I'll be happy, vampires and chaos lords with all their gifts really felt they were beyond normal humans back in the day (i know they'd cost a shedload more points). I miss that.

  5. Well Red fury kind of became Blood Feast and plus 1 attack is always good!

Strength of Steel was mad for 15 points for +1 strength on the charge and could be implemented as a extra -1 rend on the charge or just -1 rend until start of next hero phase.

I'm torn whether things like this should be a radius based thing or you have to pick a specific unit.  Although to have these as abilities for the vampires only would also be cool and fluffy.

Yes, blood tokens for extra funky skillz sounds great... similar to the OBR points, but only for the vamps. And if you don’t have any, your vamp gets extra edgy...

but the line between bonkers broken and hamstrung is thin and GDubs does not have a record of well balanced rules.

Not keen on insignificance, but not keen on Soulblight Cheeselords, either.

Aelves have cheeselords, why not us?! 😈

  7. I just feel that almost everything has some sort of save against them these days which lessens their importance.

Take for example killing blow in fantasy; it may be time has addled my brain but that from what I recall went off on 6's no armor save but ward saves were allowed. Pretty similar to mortal wounds however not that many units had killing blow and not that many units had saves against it other than heroes/lords.

Lorewise okay we've had the necroquake and everything has gone a bit mad but it feels like it was overcooked table top wise and they've since been giving units and armies protection against it as a result.

Important to note that Gorslavs command ability doesn't require him to be the general, so that is very much  an improvement and maybe this will lead to our general not being nuked off the board turn 1/2. Removing the revive a whole unit for 1 CP should make our strategy less swingy, that's honestly what I dislike most about it. If you have a lot of deathrattle you basically need to revive them in order to get your points out of the units. At the same time it feels bad for your opponent and makes the game less fun. The general should be essential in a death army but not to the extent it is now (was even worse in Fantasy were you basically lost when the general died).

I can't wait to see what type of rules we get instead of this badly designed rule. The Gorslav rule seems fine and lorewise very cool but not over the top considering you have to get all the models aswell :)

Only thing is in fantasy you could make your general a lot more durable with wargear vampiric powers and having them in a unit was a massive help as very few units could snipe you.

This seems like a bad time to have started getting into the game with a Legions of Nagash skeleton-heavy army. I bought a horde of like 50 skeleton warriors, 10 grave guard, a necromancer, a wight king, some bat swarms, and 5 hexwraiths just to be faced with the strong possibility of my army building plan being turned on its head. Really hoping I can still play with all these units. I already started painting. Soulblight Gravelords looks cool, I just want to be able to have an army focused around my never ending ranks of classic bone boyes.

Do you guys think I'm screwed? Should I save all the trouble of painting this army?

    Everything @JackStreicher said.

Especially if it’s on rounds, I’m only starting afresh as most of my stuff other than Nagash and Manfred are on squares.

It also depends on how bothered you will be by the new models vs old. If you hadn’t already made purchases I would have said to hold off but you already got a nice lot of models (hopefully on rounds) so enjoy it. The only slight issue other than hexwraiths is we don’t know whether graveguard will remain a thing, so they may become more standard skeletons.

  10. So I reread Vhordrai’s lore in the battletome and he basically has all the notable bits of Abhorash, Walach and the Red Duke rolled into him to varying degrees. I’d be happy with Vhordrai being the man when it comes to the martial/blood dragon vampires. A dedicated model wouldn’t hurt mind. Well it’s more realistic than Abhorash turning up anyways, again this release has me pumped and ready to commit to all round bases. :)

  11. I guess if they gave Vhodrai a bit more attention lore wise and made him even better than he is now rule wise (I still think since the Ethereal Amulet isn't a thing your better off taking him than standard VLoZD). That could be an option that would ease the blow of no Abhorash, I like Vhodrai just doesn't seem to have had much thrown his way to make me care about him from a lore standpoint.

  12. Different strokes for different folks. I love Abhorash and if it wasn't for him and the Red Duke's backgrounds (Both of whom didn't have rules by the time I started WFB as Circle of Blood was an edition prior to my get involved in WFB and obviously Abhorash has never had rules) I wouldn't have switched from 40k and probably wouldn't still be in the hobby. So I would find it exceptionnaly nice from a personal standpoint if Abhorash did get a model and rules, again I do actually agree with you that he should be a standalone like Gotrek but I can't see that happening.

...based on what they have shown this unit is quite poor actually. I'm not getting the outrage.

@Neverchosen they are insanely cool models though. I might buy a box just to make some custom High Wardens

I'm out of touch regarding meta; I only ever play against Sylvaneth, Cities, and Nighthaunt. So yeah I may have read the profiles and over reacted somewhat. apologies.

So I know I'm an outlier on this, but what exactly is it about Abhorash that everyone likes so much?  He always struck me as an emo and mary-sueish character, the sort that I'd expect the fandom to mostly make fun of not latch onto unironically, and a wildly poor fit for the faction in general regardless.  Akin to wanting there to be a holy, good guy daemon prince of order to be buddy buddy with Sigmar, and wanting that character to be the most important and most powerful special character in the chaos daemons army book.

I mean, on a "I remember being a teenager" level I can sort of understand the appeal of the "super dangerous but also super handsome and noble vampire warrior prince who's actually the most honorable and good of anybody and also the best fighter in the world, and he doesn't kill innocent people to drink blood (except for one time that he's so sad and tormented about forever) and he doesn't trust people because they took advantage of him but really deep down he's a good guy who hates all the bad guy vampires and protects the innocent people from them, and if your handsome brettonian prince OC is also a super pure and special noble warrior then he can earn the sad vampire's respect and maybe heal his tormented heart with a sexy bare chested sword fight (and some kissing)".

And, like, I could even see such a character existing in a Warhammer setting as a sort of fun parody - like maybe give him 'glittering armor' that imposes a penalty on attacks against him just to hang a lamp shade on it.  Or, to use a reference from more in my age range (so that we're clear that I'm not just mocking the younger folks), work out a deal with David Boreanaz's agent to use his face for the art and mini.  But even if you were to make him a character with an actual model and rules, I don't see why he would be a character in a Vampire Counts army book.  Make him a Sigmarine, or a lone character available to all order armies like Gotrek.  Putting him in a vampire counts army just seems to undercut the entire character of the army as a threatening antagonist faction.

For me he was always portrayed rather well; not wanting to ever be a vampire, being tricked into it unlike the others, finding better routes to channel his curse.  In all the literature I have read that he features in (which granted isn't a lot and mostly seems to be a labor of love from Josh Reynolds) he is made out to be the greatest warrior ever and the game is called warhammer.

Arguably he is a much better fit than Neferata in a game that represents fighting battles/wars not subterfuge. But also there is the whole thing where at the end of the day he is actually still begrudgingly loyal to Neferata as he is her champion. I've always loved his story, curing himself of vampirism and then being just a sort of nomadic warrior and standing with Gilles Le Breton at the end. It was great.

Let me be clear, if so many other world that was characters hadn't been bought back I would not be as keen on seeing Abhorash. But they have even after some were explicitly killed and urinated on.

I do agree he wouldn't really fit in a vampire army given his history, so that is why I don't think he will be in it but I personally am not prepared to collect a non death army just to have Abhorash.
