  1. My last addition and a some more food for thought would be a quote from the core book itself: "Most warscrolls include one or more abilities that can be used by the warscroll’s models during a game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Abilities take precedence over the core rules." (Core Book, pg.:238) This was the leading argument at the start of my latest tournament.
  2. This is an interesting question that comes up a lot of times. Many people say that you need los and many say you don't. Apart from being a missile attack, it is also an ability that has its own rules stated on the warscroll without any need of visibility. The safest bet would be to discuss this with your opponent/judge/organizer. If my memory serves me right in the last 1-2 years I have only seen it played as not needing los as it is an area of effect ability. This does not mean that this is the right way to play. The exact words from the battletome states: "If a SYLVANETH unit is within 3"of a Sylvaneth Wyldwood at the start of your movement phase, it can attempt to traverse the spirit paths instead of moving normally. In my reading you "exchange" your normal move for a teleport. If you can't move at all in the movement phase I feel like you can't teleport either. I could be wrong, the only similar thing that comes to mind are the new summoning abilities from other armies. Most of them can summon at the end of the movement phase thus locking you out of such options like this one.
  3. Anyone has any tips and tricks against the new sacrosanct stormcasts and the new nighthaunt armies? Did not have the chance to fight them yet, and I bet I will face some this weekend.
  4. Q: Does the Overgrown Wilderness scenery rule apply to the Citadel Woods that make up a Sylvaneth Wyldwood? A: Yes. It is in the Sylvaneth's Designer's Commentary part of the official FAQ page. (link)
  5. Understandable, sure. I know this was discussed to death but I still like to include swords next to my scythes. In the past year I did not have a single game where I could not find a sweet, low save target to decimate with swords.
  6. Wouldn't swords be better against NH? The -2 rend of the scythes are kind of wasted on them.
  7. Hey people! I am preparing lists for a 1500 points game at the end of this month and I would like to get some input. Does anyone have any experience with this size? I was thinking about taking Alarielle for a spin with some Hunters, an Ancient and the usual Dryad/Tree-Revenant tax but I felt it was a bit cheesy considering her OP summoning. How would you feel playing against such a list? On the other hand bringing as many hunters as possible in a 1500 list could be interesting too. What are your thoughts?
  8. I am not sure that a battalion is needed or worth it in a 1k point game, but fluff wins most of my decisions too. First you need to find candidates for the two artefacts and the trait you have. If you add the fact that you dont have any forest generator unless you burn Drycha's spell slot I would recommend a TreeLord Ancient with either a b.wych or b.wraith. That would put you to 960 points. Fill the remaining 40 points with endless spell(s) and you are golden.
  9. In my humble opinion they roll for the scenery rule first, as it takes effect 'during' the charge/run move itself. The wave of terror attack takes place after they finished the charge but before the combat phase begins. Did not play against Nighthaunt yet so I might be wrong, but this is the way I would decipher the rules.
  10. Yeah, the only possible artefact that I would consider as a subtitute is the Gryph-feather Charm on a wraith. -2 to hit makes a really sticky hero. On the other hand, and in my personal case, my opponent's LoC and Tzaangor Shamans/Skyfires laugh at the new rules thanks to their Fly ability. I feel like the nerf was a bit to potent, I was really happy about Lens of Refraction because I thinks it was a step in the right direction and I understand that it could be considered a bit op against magic heavy armies, but the newest change made me sad. I am really looking forward to similar items/abilities/tactics/traits that could be used against wizards. Just thinking about trying to unbind against a LoC or Nagash gives me nightmares.
  11. Do you think the lens are really worth it considering that they can only be used once per battle round? It is possible that I am jaded from playing against Nagash or all the Tzeentch armies at my local shop but reducing the damage of one spell from the 8-10+ spells that I see incoming is a bit weak. I would rather use everything I have to delete as many caster as possible.
  12. When I first started sylvaneth I read a forum post somewhere that gave me the idea to magnetize/glue the extra unused weapons to the back of the hunters. Now my bow hunters all got a sword or a scythe and my melee hunters have a bow magnetized to their waist or back. My local community does not frown too much on a bit of proxy play so they would not mind anyway but it still looks better this way and no opponent can nag me about it either. My Drycha was put together in a similar fashion. I glued up a few bugs from both variety and painted the to be extra distinguishable.
  13. Hey people! I have a low point (1250) small scale tournament next week and I've wanted to swap my usual Sylvaneth army for a FEC one. I had a limited number of models to choose from and this is what I came up with: Allegiance: Flesh Eater Courts - Delusion: Crusading Army Leaders Abhorrant Ghoul King (140) Crypt Infernal Courtier (140) - General - Trait: Dark Wizardry - Artefact: The Grim Garland Crypt Infernal Courtier (140) Varghulf Courtier (160) Battleline 6 x Crypt Flayers (320) 6 x Crypt Flayers (320) Endless Spells Quicksilver Swords (20) or Suffocating Gravetide (30) Total: 1240 / 1250 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 74 What are your thoughts? Is this a viable list? What are your experiences with endless spells so far? Keep in mind that this is not a min-max meta list just a spur of the moment army I plan to fun around with a few times.
  14. I fail to see how it is more restrictive in the Ancient's case. The TLA command ability is an ongoing effect, you have the option to measure from the ancient or a hunter when needed. In this case it was even buffed as the hunters only had an 8" range before. The only way it could be restrictive is if the command ability was an immediate aoe effect. Than you would have to choose one origin for it, resulting in a smaller covered area.
  15. This is from the latest FAQ: "Q: Can I use the Navigate Realmroots ability if my unit is within 3" of an enemy unit? A: Yes, but that move does not count as a retreat" I use a big plastic box with 3 layers of foam from a local shop. Bottom layer has my monsters and Alarielle's beetle, middle layer has 40 dryads, top layer has my hunters and Allarielle herself. Each model has its own little 'cubicle' that fits it so they don't move around or touch each other.
  16. Most of the time I use moonstone in low point games. The treelord ancient suffers fron a pretty severe distraction carnifex syndrome. I had enough of enemy focus fire and crippling it as it moved up on the board so the deepstrike option is really sweet imo.
  17. Me and some friends are going to play a 4000vs4000 point 2v2 game this friday. Really looking forward to it. Made a quick list with all-in offence in mind: LEADERS Spirit of Durthu (380) - General - Command Trait : Gnarled Warrior - Artefact : Ghyrstrike Treelord Ancient (300) - Artefact : Moonstone of the Hidden Ways - Deepwood Spell : Regrowth Drycha Hamadreth (280) - Deepwood Spell : Regrowth Branchwraith (80) - Deepwood Spell : Throne of Vines Branchwych (80) - Artefact : Acorn of the Ages - Deepwood Spell : Verdant Blessing UNITS 5 x Spite-Revenants (70) 5 x Spite-Revenants (70) 5 x Spite-Revenants (70) 5 x Spite-Revenants (70) 3 x Kurnoth Hunters (200) -Scythes 3 x Kurnoth Hunters (200) -Greatswords BATTALIONS Outcasts (90) Dreadwood Wargrove (90) ENDLESS SPELLS Malevolent Maelstrom (20) As we are playing 2v2 I left the objectives to my partner to go all out, balls to the walls aggressive play. As one of my enemies plays Tzeentch and my ally is coming with KO I wanted to try out the Maelstrom. Any experiences with it? Is it worth it or should I spend that last 20 points on Quicksilver Swords?
  18. I sure hope so... Did not hear anything about nerfs to Durthu so it might be a typo.
  19. I might be wrong about it but the battletome states that a Dreadwood Wargrove may include "0-1 Free Spirits battalion", hence the question.
  20. Hey, a quick question: Can you stack the Free Spirits battalion's movement and the movement the Dreadwood battalion's Sneak attack gives on the same unit? Let us say I set up my Kurnoth Hunters as close as possible to the enemy, then move them 2 times 5" in the hero phase. A 15" move + charge could prove useful in my next game.
