  1. It's more likely more people bulk-preordering incase it is a popular one. It's why they can sometimes vanish and reappear because people hedge their bets that its a rare issue and then it turns out to be mundane so they cancel their orders.
  2. One tip that I adapted too late on the Imperium series was to pre-order on Forbidden Planet and then wait to see what the content was and drop issues. Because FP doesn't charge you until they ship, you can preorder and cancel and it won't cost you anything and isn't costing them processing fees or such either. Otherwise popular issues vanish almost as soon as the content for htem is announced (I missed out on a few Necron issues that way because they just vanished in seconds)
  3. I think one difference is that most armies (and skaven are a great example) often have niches within them which can be down different design pathways within the same design ethos. So all Skaven look like Skaven, but within that you've got your sewn together beasts; your crazy science; assassins; clans etc... Space Marines have the same, they just separated out and their niches became whole armies with their own minor niches within them. This can mean that a lot of marine models end up looking rather similar; but then again those who aren't fans of a design style of another army can say the same about many others. I think its also an issue in that Marines are often one of the first get expanded so they've already got a lot of diversity and toys. This means that adding new things is often a case of adding another Lieutenant instead of a totally new themed leader; because the army has buckets of them already. Personally Marines are in the "I love this as a concept, lore, art, animation, video game - I just don't really want the models. There's nothing wrong with them and there are some I'd love to get, but as an army they just don't work for me and I honestly could not put my finger on why. Perhaps its just that other armies interest me way more and catch my attention.
  4. See I just gave in and got one of the last Getting started sets off Wayland. I figure with the Wightking and Black Knights I might as well get some free Skeletons even if I think the kit is a bit old and needs an update. I was almost tempted to get 2 sets, but I needed spraypaint instead.
  5. Also the most horrific one! Just look he's crushing one innocent Tyranid and wearing the parts of another like some kind of grim trophy!! Whatever did that poor Tyranid do to deserve that?!
  6. I think its possibly because he's a one kit model whilst a few of the larger mounted models we've had have been duel kits which puts the price up. That said I'm still tempted to grab one of the few remaining getting started sets for the Soulblight; if just to get the King on Steed and Black Riders. I'd consider the 20 Grimguard a bonus, esp as they are a kit I expect GW to update with something far superior at some point.
  7. Yeah the wingarm design has never looked right to me. Even when others have copied the design style and made their own takes on it they just seem wrong. Not enough arm in the wing design to make it look deadly; not enough wing to make it look like they could ever actually fly. Just sorta half way that never worked. It's another reason I wish GW would revise the model.
  8. It's not so much age, they come from a time when GW tended to sculpt monster chests in a very boxy style. Similar to the previous plastic demon prince. Not bad, just not as good as they can do now. Also I'm tempted to get an old starter set for soulblight cause I can see the king on mount being on the pricey side
  9. Bit of a shame the Vargheists are in the Vangaurd boxed set for Vampires. If just because that means that there's likely no update for them on the horizon. Still kinda holding out hope that Flesheaters get an update and some of their core stuff gets a new version. I'd love to see GW do a new zombiedragon. I'd even accept if the Zombiedragon and Terrorgast were split into separate kits to really focus on the different themes and designs. That said the Grave Guard no longer being in the starter frees them up and arguably they are the worst looking Vampire models left now. Or at least if not bad looking they are out of date, esp when compared to the regular Deathrattles. Also for some reason GW UK still shows the Cairn Wraith in the army page Also are those dragons on the Soulblight dice? Kinda like those dice
  10. Honestly I hope FEC get a range update - they sorely need it!
  11. Welcome mortals to the new thread for Hedonite discussion! New book, new thread and all! Enjoy and share in the excess of newness! Previous thread: And the one before that
  12. And I'm up, online and enjoying!! Seraphon army is looking like its getting a really great update - new chunky kroxagores; big mounts and all! Ossiarchs I wish had gotten an archer unit, but a support for the bigger models in the force is a good addition to an elite style army and the model looks great. Soulblight is equally looking good with a new hero, surprised there wasn't more as Soulblight has been a big target for updates and I was half expecting/thinking we might have seen ghouls/zombiedragon/etc.. updated as part of a Flesheaters update, but alas not this round. Cities new units look great, they've got that dark fantasy style to them that I really like and it will be neat to see the rest! Overall with Seraphon and Cities getting big updates its not like AoS is hurting for new content, esp in a year dominated with a 40K new edition. A few armies getting leader models that look like welcome additions (even if I sometimes feel that GW is front-loading armies with too many leader choices - though I respect that they are a neat one-model option that allows them to expand the force cheaper to give new content when the army isn't the current focus of a major update). I'm also really pleased for Tyranids - new gaunts and the video hints at a huge psy unit addition; a screamer killer; possibly new biovores (plastic at last! Which hopefully comes with pyrovores); possibly new lictor (again plastic!!) and possibly other cool stuff
  13. Just look at that massive doom construct at the end! The Chaos Dwarves come and CA have done them proud!
  14. Personally I'd love to see Flesheaters get a big update or Ossiarchs a solid second wave of models. FE getting an update would also cross update Soulblight (zombie dragaon and vargheists) so there's good ground there for two birds with one stone kind of update.
  15. One thing I've noticed is that GW loves hero models. A LOT of one model updates that get fed into the game in bits are hero models. Heck the recent 2 for Slaanesh and Khorne are heroes. So potentially we might see fewer heroes as part of the main update of the Seraphon, but followed by a drip of hero models at various other times.
  16. Yeah consolidating of marketing is important. GW has all the metrics data and it might be that a vast majority of Underworlds subs are the same as their regular main channels and the underworld is getting so few updates of its own that its just easier to combine them into one account and one spot. Sometimes having too many marketing channels and too much spread of information can be confusing to both customers and also to the staff running things. Too many focal points over the same service can dilute the effective gains. Plus running many and then reviewing and cutting down is sensible. IT might be the Underworlds really took off community wise and became important to retain. Only by doing and trying could they find out.
  17. Also don't forget some models will make it to 3D printing and might be put aside. Perhaps another model range gets priority, perhaps internal politics pushes that army down in the priorities; perhaps someone doesn't green light it before they don't like it or don't think the market will like it and then changes their mind in a year or two. Plus don't forget for plastic production you have restrictions on design. The process of cutting and adapting a design to work with plastic injection moulding might well take longer than we think; even if GW has it all in-house and can go back and forth quickly with communications and have sculptors who are aware of limits, whilst at the same time being encouraged to push creative boundaries.
  18. Eh I doubt GW watches to see trends in 3D printing. GW has the raw sales data from their own sales, they 100% know which lines are selling, at what rate, down to what model kits are and aren't selling. Plus they are engaging with their community far more than in the past. So not only do they understand the numerical aspect of sales, they've also a good handle on the reasoning behind sales (which was something the Kirby era system lacked) It's FAR more likely that 3D printing demand is driven the other way around - that popular GW lines spark more demand for 3D print firms to make models to support them. Which is why even though armies like Marines have a lot of GW support (heck you want alternate models there's a whole 3D line to choose from); there's still a lot of demand for them in 3D printing as well. The only thing GW keeps an eye on 3D printing for is in case the market explodes (its still super niche) and in case of any copyright infringements that they can shut down. Plus you are vastly under-estimating GW's lead times. 3D printing has trends that last a month or two. GW's looks at years. IT takes time for them to concept, sculpt, part, product design, test, develop moulds, produce box art, get packaging and product produced, shipped from china, packed and distributed.
  19. It's most likely a volume thing. Redoing a whole army is a big order and that's a lot of creative time, moulds to produce and release slots and such. Plus sometimes they want to pair a big update like that with something like a new edition to really fire up interest. Despite GW having a lot of resources, they are still finite and AoS has a lot of things that could do with an update. From armies like Flesheaters who basically need a lot more models added to armies like Skaven who don't really need more options but updated options. All armies will get their time, its just a pain waiting when its the army you really want to see updated still waiting on an update.
  20. I accept cheques, bank transfers and paypal! I can promise 100% authentic leaks directly from my official, unofficial source. Please note whilst the leaks are 100% authentic I cannot provide any guarantee that they will be factually accurate according to the "real world".
  21. Being as its AoS those frills could be gills or they could be star-gills. Each night the lizards rise up onto their hind legs and spread their frills out; collecting in the magical energies that reflect off the moon. Harvesting the winds of magic to sustain themselves.
  22. GW have done that before showing off one version and the other later on
  23. Most of the Old World articles are like that. We are on board with this way way earlier than normal for GW. So many things are likely at the concept stage right now. GW normally markets when things are pretty much made - when they've got masters done, when moulds are designs and models are basically finalised. With Old World we got on the ground level so a lot of the articles do lack meat and details because GW are still making choices on things. This says TK are coming, but how they come might still be up for debate. GW might still be hashing out the concept sketches and designs as well as which models might get updated and if they will use any old sculpts etc...
