  1. Ouch … I just saw the new Clanrats … if that's the general direction for our faction, then I am for happy for once to have such a big pile of opportunity. I mean … it's inline with the cinematic video, lot of early skaven artworks and the overall tendency of the meta to lean into grimdark … and I don't blame anyone for liking that … but that's just not my cup of tea-coffee-brewage.

But an Arch Warlock is just plain good...

Lucky me-myself, that my army already has-got one, yes-yes. Last Battle, he blew himself up in the first round, but that's the fun of being a skaven, yes, yes …

  3. Thanks! But you can only More-More-Warp-Power for one Unit per Round, right? Which is kinda sad to give it just to three Jezzails. On the other hand … I just don't have any other Skryer Units with Missile Weapons currently, hehe …

  4. Greetings-Salutations, dear fellow Masterminds,

when I started my Skaven Army I plannend on running Jezzails in bigger Units (and thus have quite some bits for them) for more reliability. But I noticed that you can only run them in Sizes of 3 now, which reduces buffing them quite a bit. So … are there any synergies with other units (esp. for buff) when running more the 3 Jezzails / more the one unit of them?

Thanks-gratitude, in advance, yes, yes …

I think you probably could get 30-40 in range of even a unit like 6 Troggoths for example.  If they're ranked 3x2, that's an outer rectangle of 20" if you can get them all around, and at 2" range the back row of 3 rows of Clanrats could spear to the front, thus all 60 could strike if they surround the Trogg-block.

Another advantage to the big units are objective control and more economic use of buffs and abilities.  Of course the converse is also possible, enemy debuffs and attacks going after 1 target instead.  Oh, and a big one with Clanrats would be taking with a Warp Grinder, and hiding 6 weapon teams in 1 unit, SURPRISE!  6 Warp Fire Throwers or 6 Ratling Guns or combo (the Warp Fire doesn't work well vs Sons of Behemat 😛 )

Ouh, yeah! I hadn't noticed the Weapon-Teams hiding Mechanism in this Edition yet. Thanks a lot for pointing out!

So I should mention, skaven currently (this might change in the upcoming edition though) have a rule that increases the skaven melee weapon range by 1 inch for every 10 models they have in their units to a maximum of 3inches.

considering that you’ll often have with bigger blobs of clanrats or stormvermins the change to basically attack out of 4 ranks.

Ouh, yeah, again! I hadn't noticed the additional range rule also. My 3rd edition battletome is still in the Mail, hehe. Thank you so much.

Sound like all the fun and games, I chose the Skaven for back then … it's great to see, that they are a funny and fun faction still. Ha! I'm getting more excited every day. :D

  6. I'll come back to my "Clanrats vs. Stormvermin"-Topic: I just found rule 12.3. …

    Quote

… you must make combat attacks with each model in the unit that is within
    range of an enemy model.

That instantly raised the question: How many Models can you bring into 2 Inch Range (if you take rusty spears for the clanrats) of an enemy unit? It sure depends on the size of the enemy unit, but I would assume that a unit of 60 Clanrats has a hard time finding any enemy unit, that allows all 60 to attack.

So … I have a question to the more experienced Skaven players: How many Minis can you bring in combat range on avarage? And: Are there any advantages to big units (30+), beyond the fact, that they are harder to kill?

  7. 2 minutes ago, Skreech Verminking said:

Well…. Officially you will pribably be better of with more clanrats then stormvermins, but I tend to go for the rule of fun, and if it is stormvermins you like I’d go for that.

i too am a sucker for the elite horde and do prefer in my fun games to use a block of 30.

60 is something I personally haven’t dabbled with yet, but I might at some point

Well … I only do fun games, hehe, so I'll just look for what I want to built and paint, once the todo-list reaches the "more clanrats or more stormvermin"-point. :D

    Thanks alot-much!

  8. Thanks-thanks, Lord Verminking,

well, then I'll go for it. I do have more unbuild and unpainted minis, than I will probably be able to paint this year. But while painting and in between, I also think about in which direction I should go on with the army. And I wonder about the use of Clanrats vs. Stormvermin. From the last game I played (two years ago) I remember that the Stormvermin were really fun. The cut down the dryads they were facing with ease, and I made a note to myself to buy more of them and add a Claw-Lord. But Clanrats come in numbers of 20/40/60 and are also very much fun to build and paint.

Sooo … I wonder: Is there a general recommendation to go with more Clanrats or more Stormvermin currently?

  9. Greetings-regards, fellow schemers for world supermacy, I mean, all-of-the-realms-supremacy,

I haven't been to the TGA-Community for quite a while, and was a bit suprised to see, that here's only one topic in the Skaven Sub-Forum. Can anyone help me out, about what's the idea behind that? Should I just post every skaven related question here?

    Gratitude-thanks, in advance!

  10. In 2023, I decided to do one army, one project only and went with my Space Wolves. This was the single best hobby-related decision, I have made, since I came back to the hobby ten years ago. I became practically immune to GW's marketing, lost my own hobby FOMO, my hobby-expanses dropped drastically, I made real progress on the army, and finished the year with a result I am super-happy with.

After this year's success, I decided to focus only on my Skaven in 2024. So … I'll be around again in the next 12 Months. I'm really looking forward to spending the year with my cute and funny (and scheming and backstabbing, and altogether crazy) little rodents …

  11. Heho, fellow non-existend rodentpeople …

… my Skaven Army is growing slowly but steadily … next up on my desk will 10 Wolf Rats, I bought two years ago.

Now I wonder a bit how to play them, as their speed make Packmasters and Master Moulder leave behind. Is there any "trick" to get some buffing for them? I already thought about adding a heroe from Anvil of Apotheosis (which is a valid choice for mir, because I only play casual), but he would be quite expensive for only little buff …

    Thanks in advance!

  12. Hi everyone,

the Cities of Sigmar Battletome really woke my duardinish Heart and I want to try an Duardin only Army as asap as possible, so my tiny plan for a 1000 Points List looks like this

    • City: Tempest's Eye
    • 2 x Warden King (like the Buffs) and one of them is General of Course
    • 2 x Rune Lord (like the Antimagic)
    • 10 x Longbeard with Great Axes
    • 10 x Longbeards with Shields
    • 10 x Ironbreakers
    • 10 x Hammeres
    • 10 x Irondrakes
    • = 1040 Points total

That way, I have one of every type of infantry to learn how to play them, and the Longbeards twice, which will hopefully help me against the Sylvaneth with Endless Spells I'll be facing most of the time.

And Tempest's Eye will hopefully fix some of my missing agility.

From there on I can extend any Unit, or even add Kharadrons or Fyreslayers (certainly want to bring a Magmadroth some day!).

I assume that it's not the most competitive way to start, but we'll be playing for fun most of the time anyways, and so … I just want to make sure that the List is not total nonesense. Any feedback is most welcome!

  13. Thanks to @willange and @Skreech Verminking for the help on the Gnawholes. So I need those too, sigh, esp. as I will be playing against Sylvaneth most of the time.

I do have another question: I currently build up my Skaven Army. I started planing the army before the new Battletome came out. I currently have 20 Clanrats and 30 Stormvermin and planed to expand both to 40 (and quite a lot of other rodents). But I'm not sure wether to go with 2x40 Clanrats or 2x40 Stormvermin. What's the general opinion on Clanrats vs. Stormvermin as Battleline around here?

  14. Uhhm … I do have a probably rather stupid question: I haven't seen any Gnawholes in the Army Lists here lately. Is that because people don't use them, or because they are scenery, don't cost points and thus are not part of the Army list?

And to add another question: Are the Gnawholes considered a must-have for a skaventide Army or usefull at all?

I did not see any official statements about this but in my understanding they were removed because of the new summoning rules. Everything that is summonable has become free and lost it's point cost. As the woods were free for Sylvaneth players the only reason they were in the warscroll builder is because of the Treelord Ancient's summoning ability. If you took an Ancient as an ally you could summon woods and you needed x amount of points in reserve to place them.

Ah, right! The new summoning Rules! I haven't bought the new Generals Handbook yet, and  didn't think about them. Thanks!

  16. Greetings, dear Tree-Things, Wood-Things, Flower-Things and Floral-Things,

I'm a Starter of Age of Sigmar (and I don't play Sylvaneth, but the Buddy, I start playing with is) and I wonder, what happend to the Sylvaneth Wyldwood within the Warscroll Builder. The whole Section "Scenery" (or so) seems to have gone (althoug the Balehting Vortex is now within Endless Spells). Can anyone explain to me, why the Wyldwoods have disappeared from the Warscroll Builder?

    Thanks a lot-lot in advance, yes-yes!

Hey guys. I was tinkering with a little Skryre list. What do you think about it? What might be some weaknesses that need to be patched? That goal is to deepstrike with the warpthrowers and bombard with the poison mortars. Feedback is very welcomed :)

I can't really add anything of use to the discussion, but I want to say this: Woo-hoooww! I would love to see that army on the table! Although the next comments sound like it's going to be a hard fight for you, it somehow sounds like a lot of fun. So. I hope, you'll have fun with it an may post some photos! Thanks for sharing!

  18. Hello-hi everyone around here,

a friend of mine and me are going to enter Age of Sigmar. We both don't have very much time and decided to start with Skirmish in order to have some nice Minis and something playable quite soon. I already bought some stuff like the Skirimish-Rules, the Path to Glory Book, some Battletome (not Skaven Pestilens yet), but everything only pre 2.0. Now I wonder what I would really need to buy. As far as I can see, the Core Rules are still free, the Warscrolls are also free and online, and we will skip stuff like Battalions and Artifacts for the first Games. So the only thing, that got me wondering wether I need buy Grand Alliance Chaos or the Skaven Pestilens Battletime was the Fact that I had so difficulties to get my hands on the Deathrunner Warscroll and wasn't able to find a Warscroll for the Giant Rats (outside of the Compendium).

So my question is: How much does a Skaven Player really need the Grand Alliance Chaos Book and the Skaven Pestilens Battletome in order to start playing (I want to by the Battletome anyway. but would prefer to spend my money on minis fist, hehe)?

    Thanks-thanks everyone!
