Incorporeal form and Units

So my question is: Say i make my Enlightened champion the general. He picks the daemon trait Incorporeal form : Your opponent must subtract 1 from any hit rolls that target your general in the combat phase.

 

Does that work on his unit? Or only if hes on his own?

I'd say only him - it's not possible to target a specific model unless it's a single model.
