Do daemon icons prevent fleeing?

Squirrelmaster

Question

I initially assumed that if daemons with an icon rolled a '1' for battleshock, and brought back D6 models, that this would mean no daemons would flee. I now realise that's not what the rules actually say — that you can bring back D6 models only to have them immediately flee if you took enough casualties that turn.

Is this correct? Have other people made this mistake? How do you play it?

That's completely correct, you make a regular Battleshock roll, with however many models fleeing and then if you've rolled a 1 you get D6 added back.  This is quite tactical, because you could remove them from one side and then add some back in elsewhere - as there isn't a defined order in which to remove casualties and when the icon brings them back you can choose how you do it
