Warscroll Battalion "Exiled Warhost" Legal?

buffalozap

Question

This Battalion requires "One unit of Cold One Knights or Cold One Chariots".  Since Cold One Knights no longer exist, having been replaced with Drake Spawn Knights, what was the point of including this option for 80 points in the General's Handbook?

There are a dozen or more examples of this sort of thing spread across what once was Wood Elves, High Elves, and Dark Elves. Have we gotten an official response from GW clarifying or explaining why they so hideously broke Aelves?

There was a response in relation to the Freeguild units going into the Empire State Troop Battalion. Somewhat surprisingly they did permit backwards compatibility (but don't be a joker and try to mix and match the old and the new - Flesh Eaters with a Strigoi Ghoul King would be the worst example of this). Similarly Moonclan players have been using their Battalion from the PDF with the new Warscrolls, which is fine. There isn't any doubt as to what the correspondence should be.

On balance this is a good thing, since it allows people with pure Orruk armies or Moonclan or Empire to get stuck in. The game is meant to be inclusive and there isn't much scope for confusion.

Does this also mean that Sisters of Avelorn, having been replaced with Sisters of the Watch, can still be fielded for the points cost of the latter?
