  1. I haven't so much started a newww army though I guess my slaanesh could count as I only had like 2 of the models built for it prior to this year 😅 Otherwise I've been making a renewed effort to work on my Idolator slaves to darkness and hopefully will ready them for some games soon.

I am debating a new project for once I'm done with my chaos, I have my eyes on potentially either a shark based idoneth project or maybe ogors... for that I'm considering either sea monster & pirate themed or cathay esque terracotta ogor soldiers with troops riding on the backs of them. But I'm sure whatever I land on will be something ridiculous ;)

    Today's the day.

I am still upset that only the humans get cool lady legendary lords (even slaanesh's is just straight up male coded in design) but one of those turns into a dragon so I'm very happy about that.

Looking forward to the different armies to fight though :) Got bored of elves in 2 and im also stoked to see how the demon prince can be customised!!

Also looking forward to eventual dlc lords... Valkia when?

I've played something like this in Lurid Haze and it did decently well, though I used a Lord of Pain over a Shardspeaker and Twinsouls over Hellstriders for some extra punch.

It worked well when Sigvald went into the same thing as the Slickblades (whatever their nastiest thing is). Was a fun list to use though :)

Yeah having looked over the lord of pains warscroll again he does seem like a decent hero for 1k, being somewhat survivable and having a nice little command ability buff. And with him unlocking the battleline twinsouls I can see why you went with it.

How swingy did you find sigvald and the slickblades? My main concern, especially with the slickblades, is whiffing in combat a lot and then getting curbstomped by whoever I charged. I presume the reasoning behind sending Siggy and the slicks into combat together was to help mitigate that?

  4. So I'm toying with a 1k point list to dip my feet into finally trying out Slaanesh, and I'm thinking that the following might be good to give me a bit of speed to get objectives and at least some punch. Though It is low on models and there's nothing to really be all that tough. Any suggestions on how this might fare?

    Allegiance: Slaanesh
    - Grand Strategy: Sever the Head
    - Triumphs:
    Shardspeaker of Slaanesh (150)
    - General
    Sigvald, Prince of Slaanesh (265)
    11 x Blissbarb Archers (170)
    5 x Hellstriders with Claw-spears (135)
    5 x Slickblade Seekers (230)

    Total: 950 / 1000
    Reinforced Units: 0 / 2
    Allies: 0 / 200
    Wounds: 52
    Drops: 5

  5. I saw some interesting conversions on google images of twinsouls made from the warcry khainite shadowstalkers with twinsoul heads. Seemed to work quite well.

I've also been doing some painbringer conversions using howling banshee bodies because I wanted to try doing a sort of chaos valkyrie unit (each one has a single tyranid gargoyle wing coming off their backs too for that motif)

With Summers Tomes being Order and Chaos what are the chances of Winters being Destruction and Chaos/Death? Gloomspite and Ossiarch perhaps?

Considering Ossiarch just got a white dwarf bandaid I would more likely expect to see FeC if there's a death one. Gloomspite would be a great update for destruction, they've been in a rough place for quite some time so would be nice to see them get a bit more modern at least.

I'm suspecting summers tomes will likely be Khorne (they've been needing an update for a while) and maybe Sylvaneth for order? For the new Alarielle and Pipe player rules, though I can't remember if they already got a tome with those in.

  7. I'm so happy for you @HollowHills and so proud of you for being able to accept and understand who you are ❤️

I came out as a trans woman myself in 2021 so I understand how scary and difficult the process of being an egg can be.

Im also really proud of you for recognising and apologising for your internalised transphobia and toxicity, that can be an incredibly difficult thing to do but is such an important step in growing.

I wish you all the best in your transitioning journey and hope that your idoneth will slay all their foes in the future!

  8. I'm expecting warcry teasers, hopefully announce the spiderverse and conans darkoath warbands to get their own boxes outside of the starter. Suspect we will get another chaos cultist warcry band as thar seems to be the theme, or some new monsters to go with them.

Hoping tome wise we get dates on deepkin/idoneth and some telling on the next tomes (nighthaunt hopefully then after that I feel khorne could use a new tome)

And for my pure hope filled answer a slaves to darkness book or supplement that makes idolators amazing and gives us new super chariots or variant chariots or just make the idolator Lord their own character and let all StD take them... give me the chaos chariot meta damnit! Also I want more lady models released because I need them for conversion purposes and to just generally make my armies more mixed. (Lady freeguild when?)

  9. I don't generally enjoy painting, or at least I don't enjoy painting armies as I really lack the attention span for it, especially at the moment where my focus is worse than it used to be. However I do enjoy painting whilst I do it for the most part, it's a complex one for many reasons.

I really enjoy having a painted army, It's a rarity for me but when I have one I enjoy playing with them so much more and feel proud of them.

I like being able to flex my creativity and just go wild with what I want to do letting me create unique and personal projects that I am proud of. It's also the same reason I really enjoy conversion projects in armies. It's a really accessible way for me to interact with my artistic side and have things I can show off at the end too.

  10. So I thought it would be nice to have a little thread for people to share the cool lore or models for the heroes who lead their armies in their games of AoS. Whether you have entire books of lore or even just a name and favourite moustache wax brand for the heroes feel free to write about them here and let others appreciate and be inspired by the work put into them!

Does anyone feel there just isn't momentum in AoS since the release of third? Or is it "lateral", in fluff or other non-army releases? I just don't know what this edition "stands" for, although that isn't necessary to enjoy a game, but I feel a bit lost as a (mostly new to AOS) player.

I think that's because we've not really had much new release since the edition dropped. We've had maggotkin but it feels a touch like that passed by without much fanfair (probably because no new models) and we've had no other real releases shown besides the boxset of two armies which had heroes that visually looked similar to ones those ranges already had. With no real news at the moment for AoS we've had very little to be hyped about whilst 40k news has been dominating over warhammer community with various codexes and new models being teased / shown.

    Nothing AoS next week.

Well, there's the Blood Bowl Rat Ogre if you wanted to convert I guess?

No conversion needed really, he looks great.

I mean if the Deepkin is in February and Fyreslayer is in March it probably make sense along with one more small release afterward. When 40K decided to give a big update to two armies at once I can’t really see a big AoS release until those two armies get their stuff revealed.

Edit: sort of like what happen when Shadowspear was releasing, there where a lot of small releases for AoS until Slaanesh was release in May.

Definitely feels like a painful wait for anything else AoS related, especially when we don't really know if there's going to be any additions to those armies besides just a tome. Hopefully we'll all get something to feel excited about soon.

  13. The hobby as a whole is pretty fun for me, models prices are high sure but once I have an army built or a unit built etc it's not like I suddenly have to buy it all over again (if we want to talk about expensive hobbies let me redirect you to the various trading card games I play... at least GW models feel a bit better for value) When I buy warhammer kits I'm buying something that is going to last pretty much for as long as I play, I don't have to buy new armies or new models all the time (I mean I do but that's my own poor choices 😅) if I was a tournament player though who constantly went out and bought whatever spammable new hotness was a thing then yeah, my wallet would feel it a lot more. But generally everything seems to be going up in price thanks to the wonders of inflation... and whilst I'm on the topic of costs when I look at how much things like my makeup often adds up to I honestly feel like GW kits are maybe not as bad as I used to think... but that's because for me a model kit has a lot of personal value. Plus there are a lot of great 3rd party sites to get kits cheaper if I feel strapped for cash. And also 3rd party models, because I play in a casual club environment where people don't mind so much.

Power level increase feels like such an odd topic because we've got years of experience that actually no, each new release is not better than the last. Is a modern book better than an old one that was bad even when it came out? Sure but that's kind of to be expected, I remember when the meta used to be that a single book would rule for like a solid YEAR or two, that hasn't quite been the case in a long while and many books still come out that feel more balanced along the ideal middle ranges (Soulblight for example)

As for rules in lots of books... it's a pain but for the most part I've only really noticed it with extra allegiances or single warscrolls (which you can always find online) besides Lumineth but they (so far) have been an outlier in terms of book longevity and caused quite a ruckus so hopefully will be the last where that happens.

FAQ's are FAQ's, by this point we know they generally won't rock the boat and exist to tidy up rules interactions and such. Some people still seem to expect them to be a whole new book though which is weird... I'm also heavily against only being able to use small parts of a battletome because so much has been FAQ'd, it stops it being accessible to new players.

FOMO is also an odd one, and for me not something I've felt to be honest. Sure I may lose out on the occasional foot hero who is... okay but doesn't rock the boat. But I can always kitbash or get it secondhand, usually I don't need a battlebox because if I play that army I ususally have those units. I also don't mind warhammer day models because they're just alternate sculpts of existing units so no fomo there. Cursed city is a completely different issue which was fairly unprecedented and Is now finally being rectified. I wanted cursed city but didn't get it because I couldn't afford it at the time, I just accepted that and moved on with my life.

I will also agree with earlier sentiments that this post seems worded in a very provocative way and does feel clickbaity. I personally don't feel that it's the best way to foster a discussion? I feel neutrality would be better so people's opinions are their own and not influenced by deliberately influential/provocative terms and descriptions. It's like the difference between asking someone "Do you think freddos cost too much?" and "How could you accept the terrible price increase on Freddos?" one is just asking an opinion, the other is making someone look and feel like a bad person for being okay with it.

Question for those here running cultist heavy lists, Idolators, etc.

Has anyone ever experimented with a big block of Scions of the Flame for flame pot tossing? The exploding 6s on the pot throwing makes it almost seems meme-list worthy to have a reinforced unit of them, maybe add in the shrine rerolls or Daemonic Power buff to fish for more 6s.

Math hammer-wise, the damage is there, but obviously the problem is the 8" range which means no mask of darkness yeeting them across the board to then shoot in the following phase. If the Scions could move a bit faster to get into shooting position then they seem pretty good, but the 6" move with the 8" flame pot range seems to be the main limitation.

I was considering using them behind a unit of warriors or iron golems or something aka move up to an objective and when that tough unit gets charged and into combat they can start throwing their flame pots into the scrum to hurt the target. Not sure if it would really be effective even in casual games but would be fun, and feel like an appropriate use of grenadiers.

Oh no! I saw it was a warcry band and I assumed they were thus another cult.

That's a shame, the charge would ha e made them really efficient objective grabbers.

It's a big shame they lack the cultist keyword! They actually seem like a cool little unit for their 100 points with their ability to gain a ward and the mortals on 6's. Awkwardly they also can't benefit at all from the Darkoath Chieftan or Warqueen as they target cultists and marauders, not darkoath XD I might still try and get a unit or two anyway just since they seem fun for their points and could be cool to include in path to glory.

Every narrative has room for Pirates. Even Shakespeare jammed a nonsensical pirate plot into Hamlet and it worked!

Darn right it does! I mean how can you expect a story to be taken seriously without pirates? As soon as AoS gets a dedicated pirate faction it'll overtake 40k and probably be popular enough to run for government or be shown on a side of a bus or something!

hinted NH mini + NH battletome is a quick enough endeavor for this quarter, maybe February

I would really like to see NH get their update earlier this year rather than later, they desperately need a power boost. Their models are way too nice to just be languishing without any real impactful allegiance abilities.

Beasts of Chaos also I'm hoping will be on the cards for an update this year.

It could also be a typo. Warhammer Community aren't known for being meticulous.

What? Are you trying to imply that the proof checking on warhammer community articles is... flawed? This is outrageous!

I'm just imagining an army of Gluttons and Ironguts in similar poses to Brutogg from Cursed City, show off some of the violence and viciousness, the strength we see and now from artwork and lore.

And yes it is Era of the Beast, give the beast like Factions some love!!

I'd love to see them redo Maneaters, with today's technology and ridiculousness you could get some truly silly looking dudes! Give one a swirly mustache, cavalier hat and rapier that could double as a greatsword for a normal sized person, another with a pirate hat peg leg and cannon for a hand, redo the cook with the rolling pin as their weapon.

Some new ogors could look really nice, brutogg and the recent tyrant have that nice ramshackle Armour look which would be great for ironguts. Also firebellies, the current one is super dynamic, make it a fun mawtribes wizard and have a new model with billowing flames spewing.
