YES. A massive Iron Throne style model with Ushoran seated on too with 'Hounds' at the base!!

Give that ghoul a BONE THRONE! I'd love to see ghoulified wolves or something, those could look very cool. Otherwise I'd expect it to be a horde of regular ghouls with collars and chains attached to the throne or something.

  2. I've been looking into the Maggotkin 3.0 book recently and honestly I'm absolutely loving the idea of it! It's got everything I could ask for!

    Small elite army - Check!
    Tough models - Check!
Awesome conversion & kitbash potential - Check!
    Fun alleigance abilities - Check!

I am super looking forward to playing with the disease mechanic, the idea of playing an army trying to maximise attacks and out attrition my opponent feels like a really different style compared to the usual: Do as much damage as possible and pray you don't fluff your rolls. Also the fact that between the unit of blightkings i bought ages ago, my unused gellerpox infected models and my sheer amount of spare chaos bits I'm able to make quite a bit without having to buy anything new! Which is super nice 🤩

Anyway, UK Games Expo next week. Not too sure if there is reveal for AOS but I think GW are showing off some computer game stuff. Hope there’s a good AOS game coming up.

I would love a decent AoS video game 😭 Bonus points if it's not just storm cast dude power fantasy. (Give me an AoS RPG with character customisation)

Steady now, rational and logical scenary rules? Next you'll be saying we can't just run up castle walls and back down the other side (pausing half way up if our move characteristic is too low)!

If we can't Naruto run up a fortified castle then what's even the point?

  5. Soulblight can do a similar thing to gristlegore with battleline dragons and terrogheists with a subfaction as well as various flavours of flying vampires and some flocks of angry bats to fly alongside them. Plus you can have Manfred or Neferata zooming about of their skeletal hoverbikes monster steeds and if you want an extra bit of fun in narrative the anvil of apotheosis for soulblight can let you make someone who literally turns into a bat.

Otherwise an all squig gloomspite force technically flies (bounces) everywhere and you get the rule of cool of being a space hopper army.

  6. I think for myself if I had an army project in mind with that £25 I'd probably begin on getting a kit or character model to then convert (or just build) into a general (or other hero) to fit my project theme and give me a nice characterful model on the table, usually using bits from my bits box. As has been mentioned underworlds warbands can be very useful for this sort of thing. Otherwise I'd look at what kits for that army I can get for that cost and begin there. My general go to's for picking a project are 1) Do I have a cool conversion theme idea? 2) How much do I like the idea of the armies playstyle? 3) How many models will I need? 4) How expensive will it be in the long run. Generally in that order as well.

I can't speak on nighthaunt but daughters can be a somewhat smaller elite force if focusing on Scathborn (snakes mainly) with big pieces like the cauldrons etc. There's also the option of (if you're a more casual or narrative player) beginning with spending that money on some kits and bits to make a cool Anvil of Apotheosis hero for that force and theme, lets you kick off the project with something fun, interestingly unique and personal to you. I'd also echo sentiments of warcry boxes, in part because they can be used to make pretty awesome conversions and projects for humanoid forces that have a rather different and unique motif.

You could likely make some really cool DoK foot heroes/squadleaders/cauldron buddies with the Cypher Lords by doing some simple headswaps and it would leave plenty of extra cool looking weaponry to outfit your witches and sisters with for some cool gladiator-esque themes.

completeley different note and sorry to bring up 40k lore here, but what in Mortal Realms and Known Galaxy could Roboutte Guilliman want with a giant War Bear. Are 40k also getting Warbears?

    Hmm.... that's beary interesting...

Honestly whilst I hope you guys get your new models you deserve shown I am also kind of hoping they might show off some proper pics of the new slaves to darkness stuff... and confirm idolators still exist

  8. I got to play my first game of Idolators yesterday (and first aos game in like 6 months) and once again I'm still struggling with the issue (that tbh all of us can struggle with) of trying to find units that can actually punch through roadblocks. I played against Fyreslayers yesterday and got absolutely stopped in my tracks by them once again being reminded that whilst chaos warriors make for lovely anvils they really struggle to kill anything especially in AoS3's world of all out defences.

I'm considering trying out some Fomoroids for their ranged abilities, cheap monsterness and reliable attack profile and maybe varanguard to try and get some rend and fast damage in my list (though they are a lot of points) and of course trying to use my idolator lords more as support pieces.

Anyone have much experience with trying to break through tougher anvil units or elites of opponents outside of Archy/Bella? I'm fine trying to learn to pay the control game and go for objectives but need a reliable way to get through opponents roadblocks so I can reach said objectives.

  9. Something that I didn't notice mentioned (apologies if it was) in favour of some of the foot troops is the fact that the cities allegiance abilities love them, if you take a freeguild general and a battlemage (or two battlemages) you can happily have them chill out together for the bonus CP and whatever unit they are using to screen them can be their retainers to give them a little bit more survivability. It's probably not huge in the grand scheme of things but is interesting to consider. Especially if you're using the general to buff a bunch of crossbows then getting the free CP is pretty helpful for that.

If nothing else having your screen for your buffing battlemage to soak up some wounds definitely puts him above the grif mage even more. But I think that @Neil Arthur Hotep has a point in there's something to be said for the tank commander with arcane tome. He ends up being nice and survivable for magic he's also not a bad choice to bind an incarnate too thanks to his tankyness (he gets more tanky with the +1 save relic from ironweld arsenal and that city also boosts his cannon range iirc, not the best city sure but worth considering if you like the choo choo tanks)

I also think greatswords can be great (ba-dum-tshhh) but I have often found them to be somewhat swingy, they can end up being quite reliant on those 6's for mortals and they don't have quite so much survivability as other units (4+ save base isn't bad but with 1 wound each those battleshock casualties can add up fast especially if they are elite hunting... which they probably should be as they're pricey and do mortals) however I also really don't think every unit should be packing after saves / mortal protections so I'm fine with the survivability aspect but it is something to consider, if they aren't able to reach their targets and you whiff their first round of attacks then chances are they are going to experience a world of hurt. However if used well and with luck on your side they can absolutely shred other units.

It will always hurt me how bad artillery has become for cities, at least before the tome changes the rocket batteries could ignore line of sight... but I still feel they could have some use in certain matchups (and likely more casual games) as their range is very good and in the right position they could really irritate an opponent by peppering shots into units or heroes and threatening weakened things from a distance. They are in desperate need of a warscroll change though or at the very least a points drop. Unfortunately I think the best option for a more artillery based human list would be a battery of steam tanks and praying for luck. Which is a shame because the artillery has always felt like it should be a big thematic thing for freeguild as they are one of the few armies with proper gunpowder artillery and if done right they could become a great supporting fire piece.

That is exactly what I want... well that and goblins with tricorn hats and wielding cutlasses

And a melee unit where they all have double peg legs and hook hands. It feels ridiculous enough to work very well for grots ;)

Laught as much as you want, but it will not change the fact that KOs are going to have the best battletome ever, revealed in one week!!!

    MUAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

If even all they do is make the Admiral's hammer slightly bonkier I'll be a very happy lassie. But hopefully we will see some cool updates to them (without making them too terrifying again) I'd love to see the skywardens get a bit stabbier too.

Best I can do is an Arkanaut hero model and all your command abilities get removed.

But don't worry, that foot hero will have a new command ability to give your squads of arkanauts a chance to deal 1d3 mortal wounds on a 4+ to units within 1" if they are still alive at the end of the combat phase ;)

Most of the 3rd tomes are been quiet generous with new battleline options, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of their subfactions let them count as battleline in the new book!

One can dream!! I just think it would be nice for DoK to have the option. Could make for some interesting and quite different lists.

I have been meaning to make a blog post about using classic video game sprites as a guide for mini painting. Because they are so similar: Both game sprites and miniatures are small objects that have to be readable and impactful from far away. Seems like a perfect opportunity to do this some Castlevania sprites.

I would be super interested in reading that blog post 😮

  15. Does anyone know how well Synessa & Dexcessa fare in Slaaneshi lists? I really like their models but I'm not too sure how useful they are without a ward save for survivability. Granted I don't usually face shooting heavy lists but my tactical play still needs a lot of work so would be good to know how difficult they are to get their points worth out of them.

  16. I will always much much prefer more battleline options in an army then being stuck with only being able to take one or two specific units as battleline. Sure some people want that feel of regimented units of footmen backed up by flanks of cavalry and monsters but sometimes its really fun to play a cool theme like an undead necromancer raising hordes of dragons because they didnt want to try and organise lots of zombies or the idoneth enclave who slams a line of turtles into their foe whilst a few reaver archers plink away behind.

The only problem is if a unit is rediculously good but frankly with how cheap some tomes can get battleline tax that spam happens anyway. I think restricting options purely because a few might abuse them is kinda shitting on everyone. Besides, outside of stormcast I've yet to see a monster battleline list that really shakes things up that much anyway (gristlegore had their time too but that was fixed mostly by just changing their command trait)

For my part, I think it's safer if it stays narrative, and personally I believe it makes more sense there.

The more customization they give us (which I consider desirable) the easier it is for someone to find janky rules exploits that will have the community crying for balance, which could steal away the heart and soul of AoA.

Sure, jank could still appear in narrative games to, but the very nature of narrative play implies a system that is less concerned with rules and balance. Customization would find a better home there.

Whilst narrative works well for it id definitely like them to keep an easy points conversion to make using them in path to glory and points based games easier, kind of like how they are currently.

  18. I'd like to see a mount option with a built in ranged attack instead of say the maw attack so that we can make things like steamtanks or ironblaster riding ogors or sharks with freaking laser beams.

I know we can just take a bow on the hero but it feels so awkward with having a mount weapon being treated as their weapon and not a mount weapon for interaction purposes. Also it means we can't have an angry freeguild general leaning out of his Rhino mounted howitzer shooting a dinky pistol.

I'd also like to see more 'fun rules' options for hero's, instead of just getting super basic stuff like better stats or mortals on x roll it would be nice to see more stuff like the legion of blood did with 'transform into a dire wolf or angry bat and feel like a pissed off D&D druid' or something like how kharadron endrinriggers (and most skaven) get the 'chance of a power boost but on a 1 you go owchie'. Stuff like that feels more fun than just 'make number better'.

Also more support hero options. What's the point of giving yourself the totem keyword when most books straight up don't care about it, more totem shenanigans other than just 'better banner' would be cool. Maybe if you take the totem upgrade you can take an upgrade to let units fully within 12 inches heal 1 wound in the hero phase or something?
