Exactly, I also wonder how they will balance it with all the warscrolls as playing without the magic module has certainly an impact on some armies. So a warscroll has to be balanced for a game with the magic module and for a game without the magic module.

I actually like this new ruleset, aka Age of Modules, in that it offers an actual path for new people learning the game. You can start with the core rules only and then gradually introduce modules as you get more familiar.

But the standard format will always be matched play rules as the most balanced, fair version of the game. Or else spearhead, if they manage to do it well.

Unfortunately, not the sentiment I'm seeing. People are already claiming that they will be using GHB for pickup games and even narrative events.

It's because if you exclude magic from the game, it makes it wildly unbalanced and unfair for armies that rely on magic as a core mechanic. No problem if you're a khorne player, but tzeentch can get rekt.

well their upgrade option to boyz not really an actual unit. It more equivalent of saying "yes you can proxy your old save orc models in the game"

It's interesting they didn't have a specific themed list for savage orcs in the book. Faint hope for bonesplitterz.

You mean to tell me that I can finally annoy my opponent by unleashing literally every Endless Spell in my collection onto an opponent not nearly ready for my bs? If you’re right, this will be unbelievably funny.

Nagash is an eight cast wizard, just sayin'

    That’s not an index, though?

Honestly it kind of feels like people have gone insane about this stuff and squatting any plastic that could possibly be WHFB era. The start of 3e didn’t have people doomsaying all the slaves to darkness kits that got refreshed or anything like that

They've not used the word index, it's battlepack or something. So it might not look exactly how 40k handled it.

Every edition they remove loads of stuff. At the start of 2nd it was FW stuff. It's just lots of rumours and lots of speculation on top of zero communication from GW.

It wouldn't take much for them to just put a line in one of their community articles saying 'we're aware of speculation about xyz army being removed from match play - this won't be the case'.

The lack of communication just fuels conspiracies and mistrust.

I don’t read that as pile in getting removed, just not having to spend ages arranging your models to get as many within 1 as possible

Yeah, that's a fair point. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

But does raise a few questions though over whether the 3 inch pile will still exist, on top of the 3 inch range. There's potential for a bit of shenanigans there, tagging a lot of units in combat.

This is just pure speculation. We won't know it until we see the indexes.

Of course. But it's pure speculation, and imo far less likely, that they'll get abandonware matched play rules that'll last the entire edition.

Exactly. Of course, BoC were always going to get an Index (Called it being an Index edition not long after seeing what happened in 40k). They just won't be getting a Battletome under the name BoC if there is a "Beast-like" BT on AoS4 at all.

BoC will not exist as they currently do by the end of AoS 4. All the BoC (Including the Shaman and Warlord) will be sold for ToW and the range will be reimagined or removed.

If they're going to get squatted they'll get an index with 'legends' rules. I.e. you can continue to play them in friendly games with the new stats and usrs, but they won't be match play legal.

In my personal experience, the coolest, biggest guys were always the one with the highest bravery. Underpowered units like grots, rats and normal humans were usually the ones that suffered. In fact, they got doubly hurt by both having worse bravery and losing higher numbers than elite units.

Imo it's thematic for grots to run away if most of the unit is destroyed. It gets more problematic when stormcast paladins turn tail (bravery 7).

Don't think it was "personal", I was pointing out you've made several back-handed comments in recent times and was using that to explain the most recent one. Not sure why that is bizzare?

Who gives a ******? We don't all need to be cheerleaders. People should be encouraged to think critically, and a ranged of different nuanced opinions shouldn't be framed in such a black and white way.

This. It never felt very impactful to me.

Wiped a unit of rockguts thanks to battleshock last week. Dude had no cp left so he lost the last three. That's 170pts on one dice roll. Hugely impactful.

You know, does anybody else think that we're gonna get more Darkoath than what was revealed in the army set + Gunnar Brand?

From what I remember, whenever GW does an army set they don't release all the models that come in that wave. FEC Army Set didn't have Ushoran, the Cardinal or the Executioner.  Kroot Army Set didn't have the Trail Shaper, Lone Spear or the Kroot Hounds. I guess you can say that the Brand's Oathbound and Abraxia are two S2D kits that are probably going to be released at the same time as the army set, but still I think there could be a little more.

One obvious thing that sticks out is there's no Darkoath wizard unit. For a long time they have had various shamans/witches in their side-game units, but never as an actual dedicated character. Theddra Skull-Scryer in the Godsworn Hunt Underworlds warband, Sarakkar Blackwing in the Gnarlspirit Pack Underworlds warband, and the God-Speaker in the Darkoath Savagers Warcry warband.

Would love war mammoths back! But yeah I think it'll be next StD book.

BTW, I wonder what they'll do with thredda and the godsworn. She was the only darkoath unit not named dropped in the preview for the new box.

Recently they've taken to removing older underworlds warbands from the battletomes. Hope that's not going to happen here.

Supposedly, those leaks came before Adepticon, and most of them are being confirmed now by the Adepticon preview (index, weapon ranges), today's video (counter charges) and wf jr (spell lore, double turn changes)

The 'leaks' said that weapon ranges were 0.5 inches for infantry and 3 inches for monsters. False.

They also said that there was a single hero phase at the start of every round, rather than one in each players turn. Again false, at the warcom video says that you can cast magic in your players turn.

Does anyone worry though this will be as messy as 10th edition 40k was?

Nah mate, absolutely zero worries at all on that front. Everyone pretty optimistic as far as I can see...

Definitely battalions would be the first thing to go, and we just end up with no army construction limits besides rule of 3/6 like current 40k

I doubt battalions will go, because that make deployment less important. You will have no option to build into the priority by limiting drops.

There's a balance to be struck with this kind of stuff.

GW doesn't have unlimited production capacity, especially nowadays we have extreme issues with entire ranges struggling to be in stock anywhere and some countries have been unable to buy certain things for over a year. Producing 2x more Dominion than what was needed was a huge amount of plastic and cardboard gone into stuff that could have been allocated elsewhere. Great; you can buy 200,000 Yndrasta's off of Ebay but Lumineth players can't buy a battlecow and Australians haven't been able to buy a Land Raider in years.

Not only that but all that excess stock has to be returned to get destroyed. It is hugely wasteful in an industry that is already massively wasteful and has a crazy carbon footprint.

So yes it is catastrophic for buyers because it negatively effects every other product GW produces.

Was dominion a limited run that they massively over produced? Or was it an ongoing product that they continued to make throughout the edition?

Perhaps they could be moving to the latter model for Ruination, particularly as it seems to also fulfill a dual role as a starter box for spearhead.

Right. I let the frustration get the better of me. Dropped this under their FB post with the preorders annoucement.

I'll let you know, if there's any meaningful response.

Is this due to the scenery piece do you think? Vaguely recall there being delays with the hunter and hunted box too, from announcement. But could be wrong?
