That Ork update was ok - and that is pushing it.  They dropped the new various buggies and that was it despite trying to build the hype train for a Orktober and a huge release.  The buggies are all nice mocels, but half of them are fairly DOA due to lack-luster rules.  They made 6 completely different vehicles but were unable to create 6 sets of compelling roles for them to fill - so half of them are simply outclassed by the other half since they are vying for the same role.  The models all look excellent though.

And then they ignored half of the existing range that is either missing options or could use updates.  Tankbustas & kommandos are still expensive old resin kits that don't fit the aesthetic for the rest of the range.  There is no mega armored warboss option.  There is still no Deffkopta kit other than the old character GorkaMorka model.  The Weirdboy model was terrible when it was first released, is resin, and has not at all got better with age (at least the Weirdnob makes a good base for a conversion).

They could have done a lot better with the Ork release.

Do you have a minute for speed freeks, sir?

So, looking through the images again, I think there is a good case to be made for the fact that we will have multiple Grand Alliances, maybe even at launch, or soon after.

So, take a look at this image:

As has been observed elsewhere, note that the center symbol is not a faction symbol. Observe:

    w21.png.38d3fbf3e86b7232f95af1716b564ab4.png

The last piece of this is the starter box.  Check out the lower left hand corner.GAMAReveals-Mar11-Warcry9gce.jpg.fb9511cc711afc773248b601e890e7d3.jpg

My proposal is that the symbol  (which looks roughly like the 8 pointed chaos star) represents the Chaos grand alliance warbands in Warcry, and this is what is being previewed. Based on branding, let me go one step further and suggest that the garish red banner on the box also marks or is associated with the Grand Alliance Chaos branding.  Check out the first image again and notice that the red is used as the backdrop for the symbol here. My called shot is that we will likely get other starter sets for other grand alliances that will have different associated symbols and colors.  If I were to take a guess, I would say that we'll see blue (Order), black or purple (Death), and green or yellow (Destruction). I recognize this is grasping for straws, but it seems to make sense of the data we have.

Edit: It is worth observing that Shadespire has similar color associated branding, with blue for Order, red for Chaos, purple for Death and green for Destruction.

could be just like underworlds, and this is the expansion symbol.

^^ yeah, nothing more than a reboxing probably, might even be lucky and get a start collection box with just some of the older models in there (though I doubt it)

The infantry is pretty much a duel kit anyway (spears, bows or hand weapons) and comes with command, including enough bits to make a shaman, so I doubt they will be replacing that anytime soon. Fine by me, as its a brilliant little kit, even if its not a jam packed as some of the new ones.

From the picture today and from the shadespire warband, I dont think much will change with the core unit, the ones in the box were almost exact clones of the older kit, just with a couple of extra details.

I find underworlds ones a wee bigger than the ones in the box.

    Fungoid shaman is noticible bigger.

  4. im not sure we need that many new units for ironjawz, or even moonclan (and both are by far my favorite armies).

but, man, id like to see some wacky squig tech focus on the wee fellas. Squig balloons, Squigs mortars, Squigs seeking bombs...

id be so fkd its not even funny, lol

I loved Mordheim but woukd compare it more to Necromunda than Kill Team. It requires a lot of investment into roster tracking and building and campaign tracking and such, as well as tons of terrain  to really work. whereas Kill Team has nailed an ability to be a good game while requiring little effort and with little bloat. I would love that for AOS, but the thing is I just can’t picture what it looks like.

i think that adding tactics and specialists would be a great start

Even though I am sure that kill team gameplay is excellent (by readinh thé rules), a basic transposition to AoS would be an error. They can share the same basic core rules but should have distinct flavour, if not what would be  the point ?

the thing is that kt is not simply 40k with 5 models, like aos skirmish.

It has a lot of stuff that adds to a skirmish game: changes on phases, flesh wounds, tactics, specialists, etc.

I think nobody is asking for a basic transposition, just more than AOS with 5 models.

The difficulty of AoS Skirmish vs Kill team is that AoS is melee oriented vs KT is Shooting oriented. In KT, most of miniature can shoot while progressing. In AoS, as long as you don't charge, you don't do many things...

skirmish games tend to focus on close quarters combat, so, melee is at home.

The real difference is that 40k focus more on shooting, and aos more on melee, wich, in the end, would balance things anyway.

the difficulty of aos skirmish is that it was a halfassed small aos, and is already more outdated than grimgor.

  8. let´s face it, aos skirmish was just "small aos".

It was never its own system, like kt is right now.

specialists, tactics, some small changes in rules with great impact, all the stuff kt got right would be pure awesome sauce for aos skirmish.

    here´s hoping for it

Some of the Old World characters returned to the battlefields: Nagash and all his mortarchs, Alarielle, Morathi, Archaon... Why no Skarsnik or Grimgor (though Grimgor would fit better in Ironjawz)?

I believe gordrakk is grimgor reincarnated. Take a look on the models and you see a lot of similarities

As clear as a misty day :-P. Without free model shown there is no way to say it's a chair for sure. Much more likely is some sort of collar piece grown out of branches, probably part of her/his - damn those androgynous pointy ears - own body. Somehow I don't see a chair or throne in underworld, yet, although a walking talking fighting piece of furniture would be cool.

Calling it now, at one point a slightly above average aggressive chest will appear searching for a certain spellcaster with no respect of orthography, who has his profession stitched on his headgear.

That would be very cool, kind of reminds of me of the hired charcters in warcraft 3, which I still hold to be one of the best games Ive played. Not saying it reminds me of visuals, just mor ein the summoning of odd beasts and spells. How cool, of ot is the case, would make more sense than a troll, a squig, and a rock walk into shadespire.

    God, dammit!!!!

    Image result for hype train

Did they say 8 new battle groups or 6 - if the former then Daughters and Idoneth still have a chance if not then its sad but great to see some dwarven warriors and sylvanath!

Also am I the only one that thought "legions of undead thought lost" = Tomb Kings!

there are two on the core set :/

and the lost dead must be the katrophane, wich, in some ways, are the AOS Tks

Agree, not enough information about slaanesh's DP mechanic or the greater summoning rules to say whether it's going to be an issue.

I think is a very hard to balance area of the game and it's a concern to keep an eye on if there isn't any other "catch" and reinforcement points are dropped and that's all there is to it.

Khorne blood tithe table certainly needs a rework if they don't require reinforcement points in the future. 8 blood tithe points to drop Skarbrand on the battle field could cause problems! Tzeentch/Seraphon would need a rework obviously.

Nurgle is maybe not bad, not sure.

    Death concerns me.

    "Slaanesh's DP mechanics."

    Yeah, I'm that immature.
