  1. Something just occurred to me about that Wrath of the Everchosen cover. Archaon on foot?

Might be we see an option for that, as well as a 'new' model, especially since the art is almost identical to the old Games Day model from Storm of Chaos (of him on foot that is).

  2. I can't say I'm impressed that Slaves to Darkness JUST came out and already there's additional rules that you need to fork over for. It reminds me of how video games these days will shave off content just to sell it back to you later as DLC. If it just turns out to be for the older Battletomes (Maggotkin, Blades, etc) then it won't be so bad, but judging by Psychic Awakening I won't hold my breath.

Looks like those theories about siege rules were correct though.

  3. Ossiarchs only came out a couple of months ago, whilst the last major release for AoS before the Gloomspite reveal had been Second Edition five or so months ago. I wouldn't expect anymore than the Lizardmen Battletome and maybe a very vague initial teaser for whatever is coming next.

Oh, and presumably the missing Warcry/StD stuff.

Probably it was pulled back from one of GW stores. Certain products have limited shelf life in their stores. They didn't bother to remove the sticker.

Yeah, the sticker looks identical to the 'Last Chance to Buy (in-store)' section of my local GW. It probably just means it's going Mail Order Only and they didn't bother to peel it off.

I know plenty of people living in the UK so it won't be too much hassle to have one of them look after it for me and then pick up a job lot of issues when I visit.

I'm umming and aahing about it tbh, I have quite intense FOMO and the idea of the bargain is strong but I already have lots of Nighthaunt and don't have much use for the Stormcast...

Ebay or swap them? The one benefit of them being AoS' most popular army is the ability to easily sell them on.

This one is the best but can be spooky irrational too sometimes in its own way. Especially if anyone has even a single negative thought lol.

I feel it's gotten a lot better about that over time, in fairness.

Having calculated stuff, man, Kharadron are pricy pieces of plastic.

Really hard to sell 5 guys with not that many spare parts for €32,50.

Let alone three guys on a balloon for the same price.

    I thought Irondrakes were overpriced...

It doesn't help the Start Collecting is one of the weaker ones.

The Kharadron Battleforce a couple of years ago was fantastic, with one of the larger savings of the lot. I really hope it makes a comeback this year. Tau had one a few times, so it's not impossible.

  8. It depends on what your definition of non-toxic is.

If you're looking for somewhere that's trying to be nothing but sunshine, rainbows and praise for GW then I'd recommend Facebook groups - shocking I know - which generally tend to be much more 'safe spaces' where positivity is all but enforced.  Depends on the group obviously.

For a more rounded discussion, where people back-and-forth a lot on positives and negatives without breaking into outright vitriol (as much) then Bolter & Chainsword's pretty good. It has it's fanboys and hardcore haters, but they're in the very slim minority on both fronts. Mods are usually pretty good at locking threads when a cooldown is needed, without getting draconian.

I never found Dakka to be that bad, though it's certainly not the most friendly place, but it might be because I'm one of the more cynical people around here.

If you can tolerate unfunny meme spam and don't mind the instant messenger format then Discords tend to be quite bustling these days and rather friendly. Some of the smaller, faction-specific ones are rarely anything but nice enough as well as getting a good deal more focus on the hobby side than you often see (as much) on forums, however most of those are for 40k.

The Hive is pretty nice and a Tyranid focused 40K forum that's not overly negative in tone.

The Hive's pretty friendly, but I don't know if I'd call it positive, especially in the wake of the new Space Marine codex.

I know, right? I mean, their stock price has only doubled in the last year. Geeze! I wanted a 5x return on my investment but only doubled my money in a year. Clueless!

Come on, guys. GW is the top of the heap in hobby gaming and are succeeding on just about any front you can measure. Them not releasing what you want when you want it does not make them clueless. Their growth and the confidence of their investors say more about them than the lack of a product here and there.

In fairness, GW could produce a book kept together by raw sewage and especially if it had 40k and a Space Marine on the cover, it would shift thousands of copies.

GW is largely at the top of the heap because it's in a rather unique bubble when it comes to consumers that 99% of those who start wargaming begin with GW, particularly in the UK owing to it's high street presence. In a hobby that is very expensive to begin with, and by the time people start looking into other games, most will look back at their hundreds/thousands of pounds spent and as many man hours, and stick with what they've been going at for this long. It's a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy where none wants to 'risk' playing other games because of the investment required, so they only stick with GW. It's how they manage to somehow have one of the most vocally negative, unhappy fandoms but turn such a profit rather than having others go elsewhere.

Remember 2015? GW stopped just short of having employees spit in your face with every purchase, but they were still pulling a profit (albeit a shrinking one) at their worst.

Anyway, getting back on topic. The value of Aether War for me is definitely going to come down to how much I could flog the Tzeentch half on Ebay for. There's definitely some irony that in an airborne themed box, the 'Sky Privateer' faction had to had to be doubled down on what boxes were included (Riggers).  Part of me hopes the Sky Combat rules get 'ported (ha) over to the General's Handbook, because whilst they might not be appropriate for every faction, it would be nice to have them on more than a pamphlet in this one boxset.

Whilst I'm always wary of GW's Faction Focus' hyping things up as THIS IS THE BESTIST THING EVER LIKE OMG IT WILL REVOLUTIONISE THE ARMY, I'm loving what I've read so far about Fly High and Garrisoning. It's just the sort of thing Kharadron players have screamed and expected from 1.0. Having airships act like airships rather than low-hovering IFV's will be fantastic at least thematically.

I'm curious about Barak-Thryng though. They definitely seem to be moving in the direction of letting more Battletomes take 'native not-allies' rather than making it Cities of Sigmar's unique schtick. Dwarf Soup here we come, and it smells delicious.

  10. Chaos Dwarfs. I'm a Dwarf lover, but as with Renegades & Heretics in 40k the only thing that's putting me off is the questionable longevity of Forge World's already extra expensive armies. If they received a 'mainline' AoSified release I'd be all over them.

Cities of Sigmar. There's a lot of questions still being asked about the longevity of this Battletome, whether it will be expanded upon in the future, receive new editions in the years to come, or is gradually going to be become redundant if Battletome: Freeguildar Sanctumguard, Khaz-possess-ud, Fhoenexian Tempelium and Kurnothi start replacing the WHFB lines. I still play them with my old WHFB collections, but I've not added anything new to them other than buying the actual Battletome for this reason. I think getting at least a new model in the vein of the Ogre Tyrant would help alleviate fears.

New Dwarf Faction: Valaya is MIA and since a Grungi-based army (Dispossessed or otherwise) seems inevitable it stands to reason Valaya would get her own, be that Hyish Dwarfs with a matriarchal/light theme or something corrupted?

For the record I'm currently putting together Fyreslayers, so it should be pretty apparent what my views on their model line (or lack thereof) is.

  11. Yeah, I definitely think Kurnothi are next. They've dropped too many Rumour Engines of what links closely to them. The question is going to be what side of 9th Edition 40k we see them on since that's inevitably going to devour a few months of focus.

Urgh it's a damn shame isn't it. Guttered to have missed out on the Fimir.

So, the New Year Open Day, what does everyone think.

    40k: Next PA book teaser

    AoS: Next army teaser

WarCry: Scions of the Flame reveal

Trying to keep my expectations low, any other reveals would be a bonus for me.

40k: Saga of the Beast preview, maybe a model.

    AoS: Seraphon Battletome reveal.

WarCry: Spire Tyrants and maybe Scions.

Underworlds: Daughters of Khaine/Maggotkin Warband reveals.

    Nercromunda: Standalone Subjugator/Corpse Cult boxes.

Additional: This year's store anniversary Stormcast/Primaris.

A bit off-topic but damn, the new Chaos Warriors are still shorter than Blood Warriors or Stormcast. :(

Some of their details seem to be tiny - either they can print even smaller now or they scaled them down to fit in with the old Warriors - which would suggest no new kit. And there's my rumour theory! :)

I think this was done to emphasise that (StD) Chaos Warriors are not empowered by one patron god stuffing them full of blessings.

Plague Marines are bigger than the new Chaos Space Marines, but both are smaller than Primaris, etc.

The old Tzeentch battletome i now "No longer longer available online".
You know what this means! :D

Indeed, the predictions were wrong. Slaanesh isn't getting squat'ed, but Tzeentch is!

Sorry folks, this as good as confirms it.
