    Totally agree.

the old regiments of renowned used to have unique models with a nice back story.

as you say, nothing special about these other than to flog some existing stuff.

Now a modern take on mordini’s doomed legion, the knights of origo or the black mountain boys etc, that would be something.

Yeah, even before the release I thought that this would become a meme:

    AMWts8BiUX2yfqMO4BoeGTvAf--p1EbBPWsh1un_

The Regiments of Renown really should have come with a campaign book that used them.

  2. Yes you can spread the attacks between multiple targets.

Corerules, 13.2 , first paragraph, last sentence.

I think only 40k has a ruling that all attacks of a single weapon has to shoot at the same target.

  3. Unless a battletome included the coalition rules itself (so. third Edition Battletomes) you have to check the Errata.

Har Kuron for example has the two following parts in the Broken Realms Morathi Errata:

    Quote

Page 104 – Temples of Khaine

Change the rule to:‘1 in every 4 units in a Har Kuron army can be a coalition unit (see below) from the Daughters of Khaine faction. Those units gain the Cities of Sigmar and Har Kuron keywords. Units from the Daughters of Khaine faction cannot be taken as allies in a Har Kuron army (they can only be taken as coalition units). In each of your hero phases, you can pick 1 friendly Daughters of Khaine Priest to chant the Incitement to Murder prayer (below) in addition to the 1 other prayer that they can chant in that phase.

    Quote

    COALITION UNITS

Coalition units do not count towards the number of Battleline units in your army. However, they do count towards the maximum number of Leader, Behemoth and Artillery units in your army. Coalition units cannot be generals. In addition, Coalition units are ignored when determining if the units in your army are from a single faction.

So,  A Slaughterqueen can get an Artefact in Har Kuron after she get's the Cities of Sigmar and Har Kuron Keyword (and she gets the player that is also mentioned in the Errata), but she can't be your general because Coalition Units can't become general.

  4. Well looking at roadmaps, we actually woundn't need to know the week or month exactly.

If we look at Cublicle 7 for example, when they made their Roadmap Update in November:

    https://www.cubicle7games.com/november-production-update/

They are mentioning their releases in quarters. Okay I'm still waiting that the prints for "Shadows in the Mist", the "Bestiany" and maybe "Steam and Steel" lose the Pre-Order Status, so I can order it in the shop I want, but we see a direction.

I mean, do we need to know that for example a Fyreslayers vs Deepkin box might be released in February or would it be enough information right now if we would know that it is planned for Q1/2022.

It would open a little playing room for GWs releases and at the same time customers could see a direction.

  5. Okay, looking at the rumours engine I would have said Aelf for AoS or Aeldari for 40k because most aelf have suchs gems. Deepkin would at least make sense in that regard that they have the oldest battletome when Maggotkin is released (I would guess the release is either December 11th or December 18th, so we should hear this sunday or next sunday from the release) and it is the last Battletome released pre 2. Edition.

In recent Warhammer Underworlds warband they got Akhelian on foot, Akhelian caste is associated with beasts and mostly they ride them. But they could get foot soldiers, something like swordmasters in Lumineth range. Their range is really wide and they have a bit of everything. It is era of beasts so big sea monster could be nice. Sea Dragon perhaps

The thing is. The Akhelian together with the Isharann are nobility of the Idoneth. The association with the beasts is mostly because of the models. Unmounted Akhelian could be possible

I think the scale issue varies from model to model - I've a blood reaver that seems massive in comparison to an old Chaos Warrior for example, but other models the difference is barely noticeable and certainly models released in the 3 to 5 years prior to End Times had grown a bit 😊

The scale of 8th Edition models were already larger than stuff from before. Bloodreavers at least can still fit 25mm square bases as well as Blood Warriors. Stuff like the Fyreslayers or the new Aelfs are a larger problem in that case because those models have 32mm roundbases while the old dwarfs and elves had 20mm square.

I don't know if we really need all the now "Old World" models with warscrolls in AoS or if something like Kislev could fit count as Cities of Sigmar units for example.

I have to read the describtion of them again, but I have the feeling I see something even more massive when thinking about the demidroth. As a real time reference maybe a comodo dragon or like the Dodongos from Legend of Zelda

I still think the narrative is leaning towards Duardin soup. I am still hoping that we get an update on the classical dwarf theme with a female/valkyrie army that worships Valaya. I think they'd include a unit of infantry (winged spears and round sheilds), Flying cavalry (Ranged and Melee), Artillery Piece and a Few Heroes. Overall I could see it being a small subfaction and then they could hopefully increase the number of the other Duardin factions by a unit or two.

As for the cavalry I want them to be adorable winged ponies because for all the creativity of AOS I want some more fun things.

As for my top pick for the other Duardin Subfactions:
    Fyerslayer: Magmadroth Chariot
    Dispossesed: Mechanical Golem
Kharadron: Piloted Mech Behemoth for Close Combat (Thinking of Escaflowne here)

I really hope we get Fyreslayer updates this Edition, at the moment they are quite one dimensional, model wise but the incredible thing about AOS is its limitless potential.

Start adding more Armoured Duardin, switch it up with Unarmed Brawler Rage fueled Duardin, more monsters, Magmadroth Cavlary and other beast pulled chariots, a Magma Tortoise with a Howdah full of Bezerkers.

    Hell just add female Duardin!!

What about a magmadroth herder/trainer? You could have it be like a duardin model and 9 small magmadroths. Heck, if we end up going this rabbit hole Im not sure we are going to be able to stop XD

I think in Black Library Stories their are creatures called "Demidroths". If I remember correctly they are smaller than an magmadroth and can't breath fire, but I would really like to see those as a Cavalry option.

Is the re-roll not an ability that is triggered off the roll of a 6?

Check out section 1.5.5 of the core-rules. The section after re-rolls are describted. I don't have the english ruletext so I can't make a fullquote, but the rule states that abilities that refer to "unmodified rolles" refer to the roll after re-rolls. So, the witherstave happens first, forcing the re-roll and the decision between "Blighted Weapons" and "Blades of Putrefaction" is happening on the re-rolled result.

I get the feeling some other releases have been delayed or pushed back and they had Red Harvest ready to go so they released it ahead of schedule. It got released kind of out of nowhere.

Yeah, it was a little out of nowhere. I mean

saturday (warhammer day Preview): "hey, look at the Red Harvest Box"

the sunday after: "Red Harvest will be on preorder next saturday"

To make a compare with Cursed City, the Preview of the Box was february 20th 2021, while the preorder was April 3rd.

I think normally, if we can call it that way because such previews started to exist during the time of corona, it would have been more likely that Red Harvest would have been a release for end of November or early Dezember.

Is it just me or has the info on Warcry: Red Harvest been very sparse?

I mean the game is to be released in two days and their has been only one or two community articles and not a single painting tutorial or battlereport video.

None of those articles had any rules related content, only spot on the two new factions.

    🤔

The main window for information of the Warcrybox was from October 31st to November 6th.

This weeks information should be mainly for the stuff that is going to pre-order on Saturday. The problem is, most of it is Black Templars and their were multiple articles before thanks to the Armybox.

On a slightly different note...is it usual that a new, incoming battletome has such a low amount of hype going for it? I'm talking about Maggotkin, of course, but seemingly noone else does.

I got into the game shortly after Lumineth wave 1 were out, and every army that was released or renewed after them (Lumineth wave 2, Soulblight Gravelords, Thunderstrike Stormcast, Kruleboyz..) had a lot more talk going on for them. And then I realized that GW also didn't do a whole lot to get the hype going: there was exactly one community article for Maggotkin which featured the slightly underwhelming sorcerer and nothing substantial on rules.

Nurgle is one of the most unique and interesting concepts when it comes to 'evil' and 'evil armies' that GW ever came up with, and I'm slightly baffled they themselves seem so uninterested in Maggotkin that they can't come up with anything that feels fresh.

Are these types of low-key half-assed releases with just one generic hero and slightly updated rules a common thing in AOS? I guess the second Daughters of Khaine tome might fall into that category, though I think it's an amazing book..

Well the other armies you mentioned had many new units. We don't really know yet if the Sorcerer is the only new model and the Harbinger of Decay, Epidemius and Festus stay the same for now or if they get new models as well.

I would guess we get the most information about the Maggotkin Release in the week before preorder.

We actually had other releases like the Maggotkin release before (many of the the 2.0 Battletomes were such releases). Just look at the the Daughters of Khaine, that were released before. Okay, they had the Ironscale with Shadows & Pain, than the new Battletome and Endless Spells were shown in January 2021 with the Preview, the Dead and the Divine. And the next time we heard about Daughters of Khaine, was the Sunday Preview + 3 articles during the week before pre-order (and it should be the same with for example Seraphon, Kharadron Overlords or Disciples of Tzeentch).

Armies that get the hype months before the release are actually quite rare, we only had a quite high concentration since spring 2021.

The "skill" (though I'm pretty sure I put it in terms of rigid vs flexible thinking, rather than skill) is in figuring out how to respond to the fact the rules have changed and the tactics that worked last edition don't always work any more. And it's not about the player making a save stack (that's just using the basic mechanics), it's about their opponent who has to overcome their own habitual behaviour.

2nd Ed, everyone: "Playing against Archaon. I know, I'll hit him with my hammer units - done! I win!"

3rd Ed, everyone at first: "Playing against Archaon. I know, I'll hit him with my hammer units... oh no, he's still alive!"

3rd Ed, rigid approach: "Ugh, Archaon again. Right, hit him with the hammers... WTF that still didn't work? Every time, I throw everything at him and it hasn't worked once! Why is the game broken?"

3rd Ed, flexible approach: "Archaon again. Pretty sure I can't kill him, at least not when he's buffed like that. Can I win some other way?"

And yes, absolutely - for some armies, the answer to "Can I win some other way?" is pretty much "No". Those armies shouldn't be playing against top-tier tournament lists. That's never going to be a fun time for either player. Soft lists getting curb-stomped by tournament lists is not new to 3rd Ed.

Looking at this I would say having gods or demigods as playable characters is a large part of the problem.

I mean, if Archaon would be defeated or killed by say for example Freeguild General Michael Miller or his unit of Greatswords, this would be a world changing event and literially lore breaking (Michael Miller in that must be included as "Archaon Slayer" in the lore if something like this would happen). In the lore Archaon like Gods or other Demigods is nearly invulnerable, otherwise he hadn't survived for thousands of years.

Sometimes they also come with rules rewrites. Slaves to Darkness got their Eye of the Gods rule rewritten.

It wasn't a rewrite of the Eye of the Gods rules itself, but how those interacted with the new Path to Glory.

Absolutely agree that names like Krule Boyz, Orruk, Aelf, Duardin, Ogor and similar are dumb and shouldn't be used.

I'm not going to type out the superfluous words in things like Lumineth, Cities, Tzeench, Stormcast etc though.

Well I actually like that AoS partly uses it's own faction terms. It's basicly like when in Lord of the Rings "Uruk'hai" is used for an Orc Type or Hobbit for Halfling (or "Elben" as a german translation for Elves) or like Dark Elves are sometimes called Drow. It gives the chance that those races can have other characteristics than the once we know from "dwarfs", "elves", "orcs" or "ogres" or like we have two trolllike races with Troggoths and Sloggoths.

Interestingly, looking at the german translation for Krule Boyz, they were called "Moorpirscha" which would translate back to "moor stalker"

Interestingly the 40K survey seem to be asking if people wanted more frequent point changes ( quarterly or monthly point changes)

20 hours ago, Skreech Verminking said:

They are probably hoping that a monthly update, could fix the currently very strong Drukhari and admech armies.

personally I don’t really care too much for 40k.

It is a great game among friends, not really something I enjoy playing on tournaments

If the updates are made with the FAQ, having pointchanges more frequently wouldn't be that much of a problem, if you had to buy an additional book it would be more of a problem.

In addition, in 40k it is worse with the point updates. While we simply switched an entire pitched battle profile table for another one and have to look which one is the last updated one, in 40k only the models and equipment that was changed is mentioned in chapters approved (if they haven't changed it with the 2021 version). This means you have to look in both the codex and chapter approved to find the changes.

Sentinels is a prime example of all kinds of layers that makes them the terror to the game they are, if you grab a unit and ally them into a different army, they are rather OK, as the extreme range is offset by baseline weak staying power and moderate damage. The problem arises when they get spells to reroll hits, with multiple ways to deliver that spell and bonuses to increase cast probability. This increases damage exponentially, then add on top other allegiance abilities and spells which turns the low durability intent on its head, as they suddenly have baseline -1 to be hit, 5+ ward saves from multiple possible sources, teleports and quartz to increase saves, in addition to entirely ignore battleshock on a 2+ with some support.

What should be changed there? just make them more expensive? If the LRL player had to remove 10 wardens to afford a 30 block, would that really make all the difference and "fix" the experience? I do not think so. It might make it harder to win than otherwise for the LRL player in that case, but it does not make the sentinels any less of a problem to deal with and any more fun to face for the opponent. Arguably it just feels bad for the LRL player while the opponent will still hate to face the sentinels as much as before.

I would simply say, if the Sentinels would only make mortal wounds when using the direct shot profile, than they would be a little less OP because you could at least hide against the mortal wounds.

I personally wish GW moved primarily to the app. This would allow changes to literally anything at a whim should it be truly needed. I understand some sect of the AoS population is against the app, and is against constant changes. Like said nobody wants their entire army to change. I mean I do. Constantly updating stuff makes the competitive meta so much more exciting, and wouldn’t really bother me if it was implemented well, but would likely hurt the casual players who are the largest playerbase

The problem is, the app isn't multilingual, so if you want to play in english it's maybe fine, but if you want to play with for example german rules you don't get those with the app (I used the old app, so I was able to get the english rules next to my printed german publications). And what do you do if the battery of the mobile device you use for the app dies in the first turn of your battle? I had my smartphone for 6 years, in the endphase, it wasn't able to charge well anymore (with the third battery) and even plugs to powersupply it was possible that it simply stopped working. Now I have send it to rest, but still not bought a new one. (plus, most likely being forced to an online subscribtion, losing anything when you stop subscribing)

GW had the possibiliy to change warscrolls until 3. Edition without the use of an App. They had the warscrolls to download on their page and in rare cases they changed the pdf and made an Errata saying "don't use the warscroll of the book, instead use the warscroll of the webpage".

Like others said, point changes are the easiest way to change balancing but either you change points or rules, the prolem will be that every change will only move balancing, making other units bad.

Why forgotten? Maggotkin of Nurgle was released before the 2. Edition was released while Beasts of Chaos was the third 2.0 Battletome. Maggotkin has basicly played with an Edition 1.5 Battletome all the time (like Idoneth Deepkin as well).

Really happy for the nurgle bros but i will be stuck for the next 3+ month at best with an old and outdated army xD

Do Blades of Khorne (March 2019) really feel older than Maggotkin of Nurgle and Beasts of Chaos (both released in 2018)

  19. 16 minutes ago, Marcvs said:

So, if you have multiple heroes (duplicates) with the same ability that can be used "once per battle" you can only use that ability once?

I guess it depends how the rule is worded.

"(Choose a unit with this ability). This unit can use xxx once per battle" would be a one use for each unit that can use it while "You can use this command ability once per battle..." is restricted to one use for all units together.

Basicly the difference if the unit can only use it once, or if the army can only use it once.

i don't believe they every resold the first warcry terrain separately once the starter set was sold out or even from the Necromunda SC. technically Catecombs has half of the terrain set from the starter set and still avaliable but that because Catecomb never sold out to begin with.

They resold the buildings in form of the Azyrite Ruined Chapel and Shattered Plaza. The only difference was that the Warcrybox combined parts of both boxes instead of using the parts of one of those kits.

The Sprue with the Sigmarite Head wasn't sold seperatly as well as the one with the chaos tainted ruins and bridges (but that one was used again in the Katacombs Box).

This all seems quite 'minimum effort', one new miniature of a figure that least needed updating as Fecula exists.  Other Finecast figures that might now be on the chopping block?  No Endless Spells mentioned, no new unit either.  Can only wait to see what the Battletome rules might bring...

I think the only old model besides the sorcerer is the harbinger of Decay. There is still a chance that they haven't shown the model yet. Every other Maggotkin of Nurgle kit should be plastic already.

Yes, and the choosed unit its the unfettered

Maybe I phrased the last sentence of my first post wrong. I acutally meant that the models that had ordered unfettered command can't receive the reapers of vengeance command ability, because he is the target of the command, so he and other units can use the bubble of unfettered command. The other units that are part of the bubble can still receive it.

I mean the currently legal ones including changes they made for 3.0 that actually didn't explain their workings better than the previous text.

Like @Sarouan said, the 3.0 changes were never added to the free warscrolls, and it wasn't the case in the older editions. (only the 2.0 App view of the warscroll was updated).

The changes you need are here in the faqs for the factions.

It is actually quite rare that GW changed a warscroll by adding a new one into the shoppage. I only remember plague monks and Grundstok Thunderers. Most of the time the pdf was only changed if their was a new printed warscroll (new Battletome, Campaign Book, Boxset). FAQs never changed a Warscroll PDF.
