  1. I started out making my "slate" out of miliput which I rolled out with a dough roller between 2 sheets of baking paper. I swapped over to real slate after a while because I had stumbled on a suitable bag at a local gardener shop. I do take some of the larger pieces of slate and whack them into tinier bits with a hammer though. Slate is prone to breaking into horizontal slices, so it requires a bit of extra work, but it's a lot cheaper than doing hundreds of bases with miliput (and I like the look of it better as well).
  2. I've already started working on finishing some of my backlog of nighthaunt as well And as a sidenote, I'm working on a few nurgle models for a commission for a friend in our gaming group:
  3. Nighthaunt! Lots of nighthaunt! I've nearly finished a unit of 5 hexwraiths now that I'll be taking pictures off soon. They'll also be getting the similar blue effects like the small amount of NH stuff in this thread. But I also plan to increase the FEC (will need a lot more ghouls from the looks of things in AoS2!) and clearing out my "pile of shame" of Legions of nagash (still have to do a second VLoZD, another mortarch, magnetise a blood seeker/coven throne, add 40 more skellies,...) So much to do if you are a dedicated death player now!
  4. Yes, it 's done with a mixture of sodiumbicarb salts, PVA, water and white paint. It sometimes dries nice and chunky, but it did dry up a bit "gooey" as you put it. I'm hoping I can get my hand on some of the new GW techical paint (vanhalla ice or something?) to fixes the patches that dried up poorly.
  5. I've added more shots of my models with the same grey coloured background drop: With many more future shots of nighthaunt to follow no doubt!
  6. The background of this pictures is as interesting as the actual model: 2 big kits we've not seen yet for nighthaunt I reckon... Mortarch of Grief on the right and some monster wraith on the left?
  7. Working on more nighthaunt additions. I'm trying to avoid the "full lazy wraith" look, so I gave the hexwraiths a similar face to my knight of shrouds/cairn wraith. Crappy cellphone picture inbound!
  8. I just downloaded those and printed them... Turned out alright up to A2 size paper.
  9. http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.be/2010/04/cloud-backdrops-for-your-miniature.html I had them printed on A3 satin photographic paper. did cost a penny, but they do add a nice flavor to the pictures imo.
  10. Those buildings are from the hobbit range (ruins of osgilliath). The blue was done with a basecoat of baharoth blue, airbrushed white of it, given a thinned down guilliman blue glaze and finally white highlights.
  11. Seeing how the older hexwraits might look slightly less impressive when the new stuff gets here, I decided to give them a little visual boost by making them fly!
  12. It starts with leadbelcher, gets a army painter dark tone wash, get a mix of rust pigments in a Matt varnish binder, a second coat of dark tone and final highlights/scratches of steel paint.
  13. multiple layers of the water based version of army painter's dark tone wash... IIIRC, they got between 3-7 layers (although 7 was too much... Most of the shading/highlighting got lost in the proces (I believe that model is named Karsus). They all started with the same skintone, the wash just made it darker and darker.
