  1. Good news everyone! New FAQ dropped doubling-back on the Flaming Weapon King combo. Looks like wet flaming weapons are back on the menu, boys.
  2. Under Grand Strategies, the new GHB states: "After you have picked your army, you must pick 1 grand strategy from the list below and record it on your army roster." In, for example, the Idoneth Deepkin battletome, it states the follow: "after you have picked your army, you can pick 1 of the grand strategies below" Does this trump the rule from the GHB, allowing you to use an army specific ones in addition to the GHB ones? And I guess the same extends to Battle Tactics, too. I'm seeing mixed messages so I'd be interested what the community thinks. Maybe it will be FAQ'd, maybe it's down to the TO.
  3. If I have a list that has 90 - 100 spare points, is it worth upgrading the Soulrender to Elathain or am I just better off taking Aetherwings? (Or just rethinking the whole list lol) I find this happens way too often.
  4. From my limited experience, you keep the sharks alive by screening with the Thralls! Thralls are our cheapest roadblock, which are still quiet expensive if they're just there to die, but some lists you need them to fill battleline anyway. Luckily they slap back, if they live, so people can be nervous about charging them if they can't wipe them. Also if you're playing conservatively, Thralls can become quite tanky using clever placement of the boat ward, Leviadons, Thrallmasters, Soulrenders etc. So if you're playing shooting heavy you can maybe afford to play this way. But compared to Death armies? Yeah they're just gonna fall over a lot easier. 😅
  5. Just a shame they've put in the Soulscryer instead of the Soulrender right when they've swapped in list popularity. You'd almost think they're trying to shift underused models or something! 😁
  6. Were people not already playing Lotann this way? I thought the edit was just for added clarity but it was pretty widely accepted he can give out any buff to any unit once. The biggest surprise for me is they haven't changed his aura to exclude mounts. Must be intentional if they didn't FAQ it. Either that or I'm overestimating GW's competence. 😅
  7. The app still tells me my Tidecaster needs to take the "Protective Barrier" spell when I select the Nautilar subfaction, so I wouldn't assume it knows what's right!
  8. Wait, really? If so I'm gonna blame the lack of free mount trait on my Leviadon is why I went 1-4 in a tournament a week ago. 😅
  9. You get -1 for unleash hell yes, but you also get +1 for Void Drum and +1 if they're within 9", which they have to be for Unleash Hell to trigger. So they're on a 2+.
  10. I've got my first tournament since before Covid this weekend and my first time using Idoneth at one. Been limited to what I have painted that works in the new book and settled on this: I know it's not a meta list and honestly having the Eidolon and a Leviadon in the same list was viable 3 weeks ago and doesn't really work now, but it's what I've got to work with. The plan is to flip the tides and take second turn against melee armies and choose not to flip the tide against shooting lists and hope to null out one of their turns. My recent practise games felt like I ran out of steam by turn 3 so I'm hoping to capitalise on the king's ability turn 1 and high tide turn 2. Win or lose at least most games will be quick!
  11. Same! It gives great results! Here's my Leviadon's base with it in full effect:
  12. I'd be interested in how you do against Seraphon. I played 3 games over the weekend, 1 against Nurgle which was very close and 2 against 2 different coalesced Seraphon lists which I lost horrifically. Army-wide -1 damage and fitting what feels like twice as many wounds on the board puts us at a huge disadvantage. I can't say I agree with this many kings in a list. 7 wounds without a ward dies to a stiff breeze, despite their awesome traits, and as established earlier you can only use the king's ability once per game even if you stack them. You'd be better off replacing at least one of them with Volturnos to give the +1 attack, too. Also, I don't think I'd ever run a list without an Isharann hero, the rituals are unbelievable value.
  13. If it's not a remake of the little guys living in the Shaggoth's hair then I don't know what to believe any more.
  14. I don't want to shoot anyone down here, but shall we avoid over-analysing drips of information, the majority of which are rumours with little-to-no evidence to back them up, for another 24 hours until we can see what actual content is in the book? I get it's fun to speculate, but chalking up our fictional place in the meta seems a little bit... premature. 😅 I just want the units I've been painting the last months to still be usable, is that too much to ask?
  15. It's the second one, the enemy needs to be wholly within 12" to give the Namarti +1. Of course this may be different with the new book being released soon!
  16. The link's not working for me! Don't tease us like this!
  17. The article implies that she will no longer be able to reverse the tides, this will be her deal instead. But it also mentions Ironrach having a "tide changing ability", so maybe Ironrach gives us flip-tide? Either way it sounds like we'll want an Isharann unit of some sort for the new rituals, and if the Tidecaster gives us 2 then that could be strong! I wonder what the flood tide one is...
  18. The "Shiver" also doesn't gel well with current Fuethan. If you're flipping the tides and turn 1 is still run/charge, you ideally want to be playing a single drop army to determine the play order. Running 3 individual sharks won't leave a lot of room for other units in the 1-drop battalion. But all of this assumes that Fuethan isn't just these new Allopex rules - and looking at the other recent battletomes, that certainly could be the case.
  19. I don't think these articles are having the intended effect. They should be creating hype, except each one I read instils dread that they're removing some key components that make Idoneth as good as they are - like Fuethan's retreat and charge being replaced by run and charge. Obviously this is not confirmed at all. But the drip-feed ain't doing it for me. Gimme the damn tome!
  20. And this is why speculation is dangerous; because idiots like me don't read things properly. I have my first tournament since Covid at the end of March. I'm really hoping to have the tome well before then, because having the mixed up new & old from Fury of the Deep is making list writing awkward. I hate this state of limbo! 😅
  21. I dug out that Tweet and can confirm it was said, so I'm hopeful this means Leviadons aren't over 500 points. That being said, we can expect some changes to the warscroll: The article says the Leviadon is capable of doing 20 wounds with -3 rend with that new monstrous action. Currently, the fins and jaws can do 22 wounds. Also, it's safe to assume the shooting will be changed to D3 damage to match the Allopex's, as they're the same weapon. Of course, all of this is speculation based off drip-fed information. Gimme the damn tome!
  22. Last day of Winter is 20th March (which is kinda weird but that's what it is). So really, pre-order will be any time in the next 6 weeks. If that's the final cover art, I'm guessing that means no new units, as they usually feature on the front, right? Saying this, as much as I would love crab-riding Namarti with spears, what could really be added to the army with new units that can't be added with a few warscroll changes instead? I just hope for some units to be "modernised", like Volturnos' command ability working every turn, Morrsarr shocks not being once per game (it should trigger on the charge imo), the Soulrender being a good combat hero, etc.

    Oh, Gotrek.

Gotrek is a deterrent. You move him onto an objective, look your opponent dead in the eye and say "come and take it if you want". No one will, but then you've got 485 points doing "nothing" on an objective. But I guess defending an objective isn't "doing nothing", so it's just a case of asking yourself if that is worth those points for that role in your army.
  24. Yeah, how 2 sharks are only 10 points less than 2 Stormdrake Guard is a mystery to me. Doesn't stop me from wanting some in my lists though, that net is one of my favourite tools for keeping my units alive. I read a rumour on Reddit (from a guy who predicted the Fury of the Deep and Nurgle tomes, so maybe it has some legs) that the new tome was going to be joined by 3 new units. Even if the Thrallmaster is one of them, that could mean some exciting news on Friday, right?
  25. Drop the Tidecaster and a Thrallmaster for 2 Soulrenders and keep the dream alive. If you're running Morphann I don't personally see much use in flipping the tide anyway. Just a shame you can't also fit an Eidolon in for the precious +1 wound. I'm close to finishing painting up a unit of 10 Reavers and I was going to paint the Leviadon next, because I struggle to write lists without it, but unless the void drum changes to 10 wounds it's losing value not buffing the 330 points of sharks. What units do you guys think are safe-bets in the new book? Also on the shark subject, their new points would be 100% justified if they got their monster keyword back. Missed opportunity.
