  1. I've just found this thread and I have to say it's great watching a hobbyist develop their skills.

As for the Frigate... you've done a really good job powering through even though you've experienced difficulties, I wouldn't strip it, if you're really not happy with it then buy another (you could even sell the first one for a good price if you really didn't want two of them).

The key with flat surfaces to get the best finish possible really is to spray them, there's no two ways about it.  Having said that however when an air brush isn't an option there are a few tricks to get a good result, using spray cans as close to the colours you want, and masking off parts so you're doing as much work with a spray as possible.

I'd look separate of the support struts, then use the Averland Sunset or even a bone or pale yellow from Army Painter to get as close to the yellow you want as possible, (even a white undercoat on these parts would be better than starting with black).  For yellow and bright colours in general starting lighter is better to get a smooth result as you'll need less layers to get the colour your after.  Then I'd mask off the strip along the body of the Frigate and prime the rest with black.

Another thing to try and avoid is getting too thick a coverage with your undercoats, I find two very light dustings are perfect, it doesn't matter if you can still see a bit of the grey of the plastic showing through as this will be covered by the top coat.

Another thing you can do after using thinned paints to get your top coat colours down if there are still some lumps of paint that have appeared from brushing the paint on, you can get some ultra fine sanding sticks and very carefully sand the lumps smooth then give another go over with very thin top coat colour.  Some types of printer paper is also rough enough to use for this at a push.  Lastly using Purity Seal satin varnish can help give flat surfaces a nice sheen, but will mess up your metallics a bit.

As for your windows I think they look great but they just need a coat of a gloss varnish like 'Ardcoat.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. I wouldn't expect there to be much grey plastic there to be honest, nearly all of the armies I see down there are painted.  I know they are growing the local scene so don't want stipulate fully painted for their event's at the moment.

If you're local have a look in that weekend and see what it's like, I'm not playing but will probably pop in at some stage through the day to see how things are going.

  3. These new skydwarves are a much cooler new faction than when the fyreslayers dropped, (I still hate the height of their firey hair), where as these new dudes I don't think there's anything on them I really don't like, (apart from maybe the top hat and chainfist on that one dude).

I like that the jump dudes are on flying stands rather than flappy magical rubbish or spirits, not because I hate that look but I was just getting a bit tired of it.  I also really like that they have a nice varied looking "troops" choice, (the Arkanaut Company) these combined with their large transporter looking skyship (the Arkanaut Ironclad) (assuming it can carry dudes) would make a great small addition to any order army.

  4. If this rumour is true then the quality of this set really lies in which Bloodreavers and Kairic Acolytes are included.  If they are the Easy Build/Starter set Bloodreavers and the same Kairic Acolyte models you get in Silver Tower, then it will be a real shame for existing collectors.  However if they are the main release Bloodreavers with the big axe options and and the new Kairic Acolytes, that be really cool.

  5. This new LoC looks great I could see myself getting one of these just to paint as a big project.  I can't wait to see the 360 degree photos.

I really like the head, 3 tongues are all the better for licking you with! The sword, while looking awesome is maybe one thing I'd switch out to a casting arm, I'm sure there'll be a few options and bits to mix around with in the box.

After Magnus with his and now with all these feathers poor Duncan is going to be tickled silly by the end of Tzzanuary, showing us all how to paint them!

  6. Make the book physically smaller i.e. A5 so it fits better on the table, maybe use smaller print or even separate it into a pack of mini handbooks for each type of play.

More varied Battleplans including ones for smaller games and multiplayer games.

Varied gameplay: have objectives that have to activated on particular turns or in a sequence and require maybe require models not to attack or run/charge whilst completing objectives, maybe even make them more vulnerable or have an item that is picked up by an individual model making them more powerful (bonus attacks/wounds/save) allowing a model from a unit to act independently while they have the item.

Most importantly; have a giant Orruk on the front cover stomping all over the tabletop, stomping all over your opponents hopes and dreams.

  7. Those large spray cans are the most unnecessary product GW have come up with in a fair while, if they're twice as big they'll probably be twice the price so you could just buy two tins, and storing super tall tins will be a pain, also the nozzles of spray cans become susceptible to clogging the more paint you spray through them as well.  The only thing they might be good for is priming a realm of battle board, where you need more than a single regular tin.

I like the other Christmas releases.

  8. I hope they don't just end up having one rule set for both sysyems. I enjoy the various rules for 40k, vehicles for example. Yes it could be simplified and streamlined a with better use of keywords and synergy, also having it more digitafied like AoS would be good and simplifying and balancing army selection methods.

However, I don't think 40k has a issue with lack of sales so why mess majorly with a winning formula?
