So you are saying Colonialism is fine when used against subhuman heathens? Sounds familiar...

I dont think these things were laughed out by the writers, because i dont think the writers are actually arseholes (Because generally they arent) they just didnt have the outside perspective to see where it was all going, and seeing as if im right its cost the company time and money that only reinforces the importance of it.

Its not about hope either, repeatedly going over just how grimderp suicidal the whole thing is is wasting word count that could be used for literally anything else like talking about how the different Order factions organise or support their crusades which is sorely lacking imho.

Hell, a two page spread describing different ways of moving the floaty rocks instead of just raw manpower? Wind spirits, clanking steam wagons, harnessed hydras, Ironclads etc etc the potential is pretty limitless.

I'm saying these "Important questions" are the equivalent of the Helen Lovejoy's "Oh won't somebody please think of the children".

You are trivialising these issues by applying them to a Fantasy setting which is entirely divorced from our real world history. If you seriously compare Chaos Tribes to Native Americans or Saracens (or insert any culture that bore the brunt of Colonialism, Crusades, Jihads etc.) then that says more about you then it does about the setting.

I'm sorry for the bluntness but this is something I seriously take issue with.

Crusade itself isnt the problem, obviously, its used heavily in 40k without a problem after all, if anything its passé because its so horrifically overused as a fantasy trope like guilds.

No, its the overall context that comes together badly, the very specific colonial overtones, the try hard peasants crusade imagery and the constant insistence that most of these groups are the equivalent of building a castle on a swamp, 3 or 4 tries along itll work out fine but mostly its a suicide mission.

It very much reeks of the team getting excited by some ideas and noone asking important questions until it was too late, that and it landing like a problematic damp squib at the end :D

I find it hard to care for the plight of the Chaos Worshipping marauders when faced with Sigmar's crusade.

In my opinion the "important questions" would get laughed out of any creative writing room because anyone familiar with Warhammer's themes would know it highlights some the worst of humanity and your not supposed to have a hopeful outlook.

I agree that scale creep has made the Ogors smaller. Everywhere they are written about they are described as almost twice the height of a man and thrice as wide.

I hope that newer Ogors such as Blackpowder are much larger.

I also hope with this Edition we finally get some Ogor characters for AOS, Globb Glittermaw the Overtyrant and Braggoth Varduk the Frostlord are the perfect starting points for Characters for Gutbusters and Beastclaw Raiders respectively.

could actually see Braggoth as a dual kit kind of character where you can make him or a generic Frostlord

  4. I'm of the opinion that the current stonehorn/thundertusk model is inadequate to represent the biggest and meanest Ogre in the Beastclaw Alfrostun.

He should be bigger than the other Ogres and he be riding a Wooly mammoth or a Stonehorn/Thundertusk Alpha.

I know that means a £100 kit but I think there should just be one Frostlord and he should the Biggest & Baddest model on the table (outside of unique characters of course).

Watching the latest loremasters episode about Nagash, he still has 4 mortarchs to reveal, who do we think they are?

Could the carrion king be one for the flesh eaters should Nagash ever find him?

Interesting. We have the big 3 plus lady Olynder and Katakros.

Going for the full 9 I'd put money on Ushoran being one for Ghouls. I also bet on another Vampire and maybe a Wight king and a Necromancer.

Also, please allow for some cross compatibility with AoS. There are multiple Minos that could have a home in both systems.

Depends on how they let us use Old world minis

I'm personally hoping that the rumoured Dawnbringer Crusades brings back some of the Squatted Empire units.

As written, the Southlands is a three way battlefield between Lizardmen, Savage Orcs and Terrible racist caricatures  with the Odd rogue Tomb king unfortunately :(

How is anything I wrote Racist? I don't think you know much about these kingdoms and their military history.

Historical Nubian archers did use poison on their arrows. They also used Longbows nearly a thousand years before the Welsh. There are many historical accounts of their accuracy and potency.

Shotel is an actual sword and the shape was likely employed to get around an opponent's guard and weak points in the armour to pierce vital organs.

pretty sure nobody cried racist when the Disciples of Apedemak were in the Kush faction of Total war Rome 2 (Kushite kingdom of the southern Nile not the hindu Kush). I just replaced lions with dinosaurs (Africa has a few cryptids that resemble dinosaurs).

Nubians used War elephants, Probably used them the same way Carthage did but probably got phased out.

  8. One thing I've been thinking about recently is what if there are african themed Human nations in the Southlands.

I'm not talking about stuff like Zulu and Southern tribes but rather the more advanced civilisations like the Mali, Benin, Nubian and Ethiopian kingdoms (like Aksum and Abyssinia). They could be divided into the western and eastern kingdoms. The Western Kingdoms could be influenced by the Mali empire due to their proximity to Araby. The Eastern Kingdoms could be located south of Lahmia closer to the jungles and Sea of Dread. They could be influenced by Nubia and Ethiopia.

Also I'm not suggesting these should be full fledged factions but rather as a part of the Dogs of war as unique units, some examples could be:

Southland Elite Longbowmen: based on nubian archers who used longbows with poisoned tipped arrows and fought as mercenaries in many armies.

Shotel Warriors: Sickle shaped swords with armour piercing properties

Cold one warriors: Frenzied fear causing warriors who prove themselves by venturing into the jungles to slay a cold one, skin it and wear it's pelt. Pretty well armoured as the cold one's pelt provides good protection (5+ save like heavy armour).

    Elephants: shared with Araby

  9. True line of sight is bad I'd rather they have a system of Height for models to simplify interactions with terrain, line of sight and avoid dumb arguments.

For example Swarms are SMALL (all caps represent a potential keyword).

Man sized is the assumed standard so no Keyword

LARGE for Cavalry, Monstrous Infantry and Cavalry

MONSTER is pretty much everything that is currently a monster

GIGANTIC/COLOSSAL for anything really big that isn't a monster (for rules interactions purposes) like an Ironclad and Screaming bell.

Eh looking at all the FAQ its a bit meh but at least address the not working factors

probably don't want him splashed into everything

So someone on 4chan who "leaked" the reinforcement rule also "leaked" this release schedule for aos 3rd.

    2021/2022

Maggotkin, Gitz, Ogors and BoC as the first 4 books after SCE and Orruks. Large releases for Ogors and BoC.

    2022

    Dawnbringer Crusades (rebooted cities)

    Umbraneth and River Temple Lumineth

    2023

    Chorfs

If this is true I'm quitting aos in protest at Idoneth not getting a new book or models for 4 to 5 years.

The longer you wait the more new toys you'll get.

I'm hoping for something very Grimdark and AOS!! Something we havent seen before that would be at home in Ghur, maybe a cross between a Croc and a Hippo or something!! Anything that is clearly a monster and wouldnt be confused for a Daemon.

That exists in fiction, its the called the Ammit. It devours evil souls.

There's an old adage about superheroes in comic book art: the men look like athletes and the women look like super models.  It's an annoying trend that's continued for ages.

I mean why wouldn't Super heroes look like Athletes? They are modern mythology like Hercules and Achilles and in the same vein as the greeks you wanna depict the height of human physical achievement.

I hope is not true personally. One aspect of WHFB was the somewhat limited scope of the world. There were whole continents that were completely unexplored and the sense of the unknown adds an extra weight to the setting. I loved the small rumors and stories that existed within the narrative about Cathay and Ind but adding them as an army would really throw off the feel of the Old World. What is Cathay doing roaming around in the Reiklands?

I will never understand this kind of thinking. Who cares why the Cathayans are in the Old World I wanna see French Knights Clash with Qing Chinese Bannermen.

Swifthawks not delivering swiftly enough to prove their continued existence

I think GW doesn't like the Skycutters and would rather forget they existed

Pretty sure Swifthawk were mentioned in the recent Lumineth tome. They're canon but no longer in the game sadly

I'd love to check that but Royal Mail has failed me

  17. Anyone remember when the lore mentioned that no Aelves could be found in the Realms save for Azyr? There was also mention of enclaves of Elves who survived the Old World and remained hidden in the realms until they saw fit to reveal themselves.

We know the Idobeth, Lumineth and Scathborn were created from the souls rescued from Slaanesh's belly. I believe the Darkling, Scourge, Serpentis and Wanderer cultures originate in Ulgu and Ghyran. I can also see the Dark Aelves and Wanderers "going home" to their respective gods as the game's narrative progresses and leaving an Aelven shaped hole in the Cities of Sigmar.

The writers seem to flip flop on whether the old high elf proxies are still canon or not but it is a culture I'd like to see explored. Aelves who rejected the rule of their own gods (remembering how the scions of Aenarion screwed everything up, especially Teclis and Tyrion) and chose to remain in Azyr and form their own kingdoms and cultures (I imagine Sigmar was content to leave them to their own devices, maybe in return for Aelven magic tutoring for humans).

I want to see a unique take on these Aelves of Azyr as part of the Cities of Sigmar faction, basically picking up the slack of the factions that went home, but you could still totally use in the appropriate cities of course. Of course this could mean new models, repurposing existing kits and/or borrowing from the future Old World High Elf kits.

Come to think of it I hope going forward we get to see the Cities develop their own unique identities beyond being the home for old world refugees.

I have minimal experience with other miniature tabletop games. Are most you go, I go rules without a potential double turn mechanic?

As far as I know there are no other Wargames with a double turn mechanic.

I see people here bleet endlessly about how it makes the game unique. In my opinion as the rule currently is, its an anchor around the games neck thats holding it back from its true potential.

Lately alternating activations, sort of the way the combat phase works, are more common ime.  And that's certainly the direction I'd like GW to take, though I don't at all expect it.

Alternating activations is good IF you do everything during your units activation e.g. Move, Shoot, Fight like in Warmahordes.

I think AoS would benefit from a system like LotR SBG, where there is priority rolls but no double turns as such. Its one player does all their movement then the opponent does theirs and continues as such for the rest of the phases. Also you can interrupt this with heroic actions.

Now that I type this I can see some real appeal to this system.
