  1. The list (above) is what I'm taking to Krigsluntan tomorrow / Sunday. I don't predict better than 3 wins - which is optimistic!

The event is being covered by the Honestwargamer and there are a fair few SC lists being taken. Anvilstrike is quite dominant. You can see a stats breakdown  here.

    The lists are here.

You should be able to follow on TTT here.

Biggest event I have been to so it's exciting :)

I predict good results for Bonereapers, Cities, Ironjawz & Daughters of Khaine. There is definitely hope for an Anvilstrike podium. Strong hope I'd say. But that is based on the local players rather than the strength of each of those factions.

You never know on the day!

PS. I did a silly write up of my list here.

    Hey guys,

I'm supposed to do a rematch against an Ironjaw player pretty soon. Last time we played, it was before the Orruk warclan came out and I won the game.
But since Orruk got a massive overhaul, I'm not sure that my previous list would as effective.

He will outdeploy me because his battalions are great, i'm pretty sure he'll bring his beefed up Maw Crusha. So now i'm torn between bringing a list a bit like @Turragor 's but with a Sword of judgment wielding Drake Templar instead of etheral amulets to be able to  deal with his Mawcrusha.
What do you guys think ?

    SoJ would be kinda neat.

Another idea I toyed with was related to the Prime and the different stormhost rules. (NB I haven't chased this rules interpretation up yet - perhaps folks could chime in).

The CAs and bonuses for the hosts impact the host keyword. That keyword isn't reliant on whether a unit is named or not but whether a scroll has already got a stormhost keyword or not.

The Prime - as far as I can tell - takes the keyword of the host you choose (if you choose one) like any other SC keyword unit in your SC allegiance army. He's like Sigmars finest, above the hosts - fluff wise. He also is a hero so can trigger all the CAs (on himself). So I had an idea of taking my list but Anvils or Celestial Vindicators or Astral Templars.  Even Hammers for the ward save (and maybe a sneaky Vandus for an extra attack).

I abandoned it because for a big tourney, with a gimicky list, its another layer of gimick on top, and the prime isn't a fantastic recipient of all the CAs, traits and abilities.

However I think it is something I might explore further. Especially if its still possible when SC get a rework tweak and (if) the prime is made a little more attractive.

  3. What I DON'T think this list can handle at all however (which I'll see), are Ossiarch lists with lots of Mortek guard. Basically because of battleshock immunity. Damaging them is easier for my list than maybe others (nom nom dragons), but most of the big horde units I'd take out would be due to battleshock.

Then again, that applies to quite a few things. Not just my list. Mortek with 3+ rr failed saves that are battleshock immune will be tough.

How did you do that? :o In my local community skaventide list with 9 stormfiends with windlaunchers is the hardest army to beat. Windlaunchers should take down LCoS with ease.

Did you use Celestant Prime as artillery or for deepstrike?

R1 artillery piece. Without the buffing suppprt char the stormfiends felt manageable. That char was gone r1. Otherwise it would have been v tough

Windlaunchers are 4s and 4s which helps and I only faced a double turn R3 iirc. By then the opponent wasn't sure what to focus and had only the stormfiends left really.

I really like the Drakesworn Templar with Desolators to give them +1 hit, especially if you're playing Astral Templars to get another +1 hit against MONSTERS to make Dracoth breath hit on 2+... I just wish the Templar wasn't 460 points :/

Both drakes are a bit expensive given what some other armies have access to yes. They do have some really nice tools though. I think they are tough scrolls to balance out.

Best idea would be to figure out when they are "too cheap", like if 9 out of 10 SC armies have 1, 5 out of 10 have 2. Or if SC ally armies include 1 like they now include Gotrek - or something like that. Or work from the cost of the battalions.

Alternatively, you could keep their price but have it so that they open up some battleline options or other army building fun when they are generals.

  6. 2 lists tested* last 2 weekends. Thought I'd share for those who are interested.

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Dais Arcanum (30)
    Malevolent Maelstrom (10)

Test - small 3 game 1 day tourney.
Result - 1 Major win, 2 minor losses.

I kinda liked this but I wasnt sold on 2 drakesworn and desolators (on paper the idea was neat).

    StarStormHeroCast
    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals

    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1x Grandhammers

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Everblaze Comet (100)

Test - 1 whole entire practice game (against a good player with that Skaventide 9 stormfiend,  40 plague monks & bell list)

    Result - Major win

    ...

However the way it FELT to play the lists, the 2nd won out and I'm taking it to the big Stockholm tournament next weekend (98 players with some very interesting lists).

I predict ... best bet 3 wins. Likely result 2 wins. If I get unlucky in any way, a win :D

But support heroes gathering to buff units BETTER BEWARE (this is quite effective right now).

*testing may or may not include actual testing and is completely non-scientific.

  7. I think if you can use the same armies (big square bases with round or square holes to make up units) it will add variety.

HOWEVER and I mean this as someone who played WHFB long ago, liked the setting but just never liked the complexity of the rules (IE an old player but one who mostly painted)... IF it gets dumpstered again, it might be the funniest thing I will have been near to (community wise) in a long time.

  8. Got a question that has no doubt not come up often:

    Drakesworn Templar - Skybolt Bow

If you score one or more hits on an enemy unit with this model's Skybolt Bow, add 1 to hit rolls for attacks made by friendly DRACOTHIAN GUARD units that target that enemy unit until the end of that turn.

Does this stack with 2 Templars.

I am convinced it doesn't, but I cant find the core ability stacking rules in my collection at the moment (I'll keep hunting).

    Superb!

    Just some Feedback:

Stonehorn Mounttraits are missing or not shown when stonehorn is picked, there are only the Thundertusk ones.

Also some Tribe Traits are missing. Can`tr find Bloodgullet artifact Splatter Cleaver too.

    Keep the good work !

I think you've a cache issue, I can see those traits in incognito mode/ cleared cache - not with an older tab I had open though.

Can you try with a fresh tab and let us know what else isn't there still (if anything)?

Yeah, having checked. SCE, and FEC do not have the restriction (don't have Fyreslayers to check but I don't remember seeing it), Orruks, Cities, Ogors do.

Yep Fyreslayers Magmadroths have no duplicate trait restriction. I don't have the Orruk book but I've CoS and I can't find Mount Traits in there at all.

  11. 23 minutes ago, Karragon said:

He can however take as many mount traits as he has heroes because he's running Boulderhead

aha, thanks for that correction :)

And yes it is new (SCE 2.0 tome and the more recent Fyreslayers 2.0 tome do not have the same duplicate mount trait restriction) but I assume it's the way it'll be going forward...

Unless this is another subtle nod from GW that no other mount is quite like a Stonehorn (and they need exceptions).

Hello people. I am interested in getting into age of Sigmar and find that I really like the playstyle of the Ogor Mawtribes. Low modelcount, and astonishingly powerful behemoths tick all my boxes. I know I want to field at least three Behemoths. Please, how is this looking for a serious list to get involved in the competitive scene at my LGS?

    Beastclaw Raiders: Boulderhead Mawtribe

    - Command Trait: Lord of Bones/Beasts (1d4 Chan suggests the former, whilst people below state the later. Either-way, I refer to the ability that reads: Friendly BOULDERHEAD MONSTERS that are wholly within 12" of this general at the start of the movement phase can move an extra 1" when they make a normal move during that phase.

    1x Frostlord on Stonehorn (General)

    - Mount Trait: Black Clatterhorn

    - Artefact: Brand of the Svard

    2x Huskard on Stonehorn

    - Mount Trait: Black Clatterhorn

    - Blood Vultures

    1x Mournfang Pack

    - Gargant Hackers

    12x Ogor Gluttons

    - Paired Blades

    1x Tyrant

    3x Leadbelchers

    2000/2000

Am I missing any obvious synergies here?

Generally speaking, how potent do we think this faction will be? Or am I better served going Flesh courts and Zombie Dragons to peruse my behemoth crushing dreams?

1 quick note: an army may not include duplicates of the same mount trait (Ogor Mawtribes tome p78) & you only hve 1 until you take a battalion. Same as artefacts.

I love new ogors but am worried for any melee army in the current activation wars.

Still think the good lists(of which i think there will be quite a few) are greater than 50% win rate.

Solid 3 of 5 wins tourney army.

So I was the only one who actually replied to your proposed lists with any concrete suggestions, which makes me feel like a lot of what you're saying is directed at my response. I'm not offended or anything by it, but I do think it's a chance to have a dialogue about it.

I read the edit to your above post (before you re-edited, when it was longer), and felt like I should point out - while I did post one list alteration that swapped in Concussors and Longstrikes for the Desolators and other stuff and made it basically a Shootcast list, the other one was pretty much the same exact core with a couple of changes: dropping the endless spells, Longstrikes and Aetherwings for two units of Hurricane Crossbows, which is decidedly off-meta and pretty true to the original list. And I felt I explained my rationale behind the choices pretty well, focusing mostly on overall army synergy and gameplanning, not focusing on what other people/lists are doing.

So at no point did I mean for my reply to say, "your lists suck, take PJetski's Shootcast list," but rather, "in giving it some thought, have you tried this?" with a fairly detailed explanation of how I felt the changes would benefit the list. Ending with the statement, "hope these list ideas help, or at least inspire some thought/discussion," along with a pretty straightforward admission that I wasn't totally confident that the lists I came up with were particularly good. I'm always totally open to the possibility that my changes were wrong and would make the list worse, but I think it's much more productive to talk about why/why not than to accuse people of (to paraphrase) only chasing meta lists and not being smart/experienced enough to understand your ideas.

I was honestly just hoping to provide constructive feedback, not to trash Stardrakes or hate on you for liking them. Indeed, I really want Stardrakes to be great so I can run one. But the alternative to offering a critique would be to simply reply,  "hell yeah, praise Sigmar, take the Stardrake and the Celestant-Prime, so awesome!!1!😆" Which is just as blithe and unhelpful as saying "u shud just take Shootcast instead LOL." Neither of those outcomes are productive or desirable, in my opinion.

So apologies if my evaluation felt overly blunt or judgmental - it wasn't meant to be. But at the same time, I think your response is a bit of a mischaracterization of my post, as well. And if your response has been colored by past posts in the thread where you got dismissive feedback, I get that, and I'm sorry for it. But I just felt the need to point out that that isn't what I was doing at all, and I genuinely hope your list does well in your upcoming tournament!

No no your response was excellent. It helped me edit away the ****** from mine (in which I was mainly trying to point out that there are decent lists that can be overlooked in the race to change them to more mera ish lists).

My post was awful looking back on it in the cold light of morning - tiredly trying to express an idea and failing largely :)

I mean hell, someone (maybe you?) just went 3-2 with a Drakesworn Templar + Celestant-Prime list and finished 8th at the Justice League GT

Looking at the list (not me btw :P) they've elements in there that I imagine are played the same as I play when I take the drake and prime. They also have a few other bits that I now think "hey thats a good idea!" about so that's cool!

I'm 9/0/4 last 3 (smaller) tournaments with the LCoSD and Prime list so I'd say over the longer run, designating it a 3/0/2 list looks about right.

I want to shake it up a bit with 6 Desolators and a Templar, but I may take a Prime/LCoSD variant to my next tourney as it's my first 100 player tourney.  I like the idea of seeing what the list can do at a bigger event. I'm not sure, statistically, it makes more difference.

Maybe more games at a tournament is more indicative of the list more than more potential opponents at a regular 5 game event.

  15. 57 minutes ago, l1censetochill said:

Now, I do think there's an interesting discussion to be had there about the nature of feedback loops and echo chambers within the competitive communities of niche games. As in, some Stormcast players do well with Shootcast, while other lists struggle for a while. Then the better SCE players, seeing the results, swap to Shootcast, and the numbers for Shootcast go up while the numbers for other lists drop even further. Then eventually, Shootcast is "the only good Stormcast list, and everything else sucks," which is obviously hyperbolic.

You have written what I intended to write without my bias towards large lizards and this is a much better discussion point as a result :D

    • Haha 1
  16. The way you guys are trashing drakes (as in no 5 for 5 winning lists can have them - which is probably right) makes me want to take 2. I'll still win at least 3 of 5 at the next 100 person tournament.

How does one account for that?

Some lists you will meet just cannot handle stardrakes. I think that's where part of the cost comes from.

If they lower the price I'll paint my 3rd. I kinda land on the other side of the fence.

/Edit - I've ran through a few edits trying to word my opinions on this and I can't really do it justice.

On the one hand, this is something that you see in all discussions about competitive AoS  lists(which is a result of balance issues, lets be honest) - ppl accelerate feedback towards the best list they have heard gets good results for each faction. Like propaganda of a kind.

    /Edit x 2 - better discussion without rambling additions.

    Carry on folks! :P

He is magnetised to the chest and the idea is I'll use him as a huskard for my planned big beasties if I so wish.

Bonus original composition which was just kitbashing (it changed a lot as I worked):

Thanks for the feedback, I reckon I can go 3 for 5 with a variation of what I'm thinking of.

The main goal is to remove support heroes with impunity and then test out the smashiness of 6 desolators.

Previously I had  a drake, prime and Heraldor together.

Playing anvilstrike just isn't in my blood. Even though it probably does what needs doing better.

  19. Big tourney in a month. Want to take SC (as I do best with them). Want to try lyzrdskynyrds.

    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (170)
    Dais Arcanum (30)
    Malevolent Maelstrom (10)

Where I try my best to act normal and balanced, or do I tweak it to fulfill my fetish of taking a dragon and the celestant prime at all times?:

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals
    Drakesworn Templar (460)

*So far it is just the battletome units.

Updates galore for this site at the moment - there are a few dedicated helpers working away!

Spells are now added, you can add endless spells too, and we've got StD, Tamurkhan's Horde etc added in as units. I think it's just Pestilens to go (BoC too) - but you can always "ally" in units from a faction too while that's in progress.
