These predictions of which armies per grand alliance are forgetting this tidbit from the Las Vegas Open studio preview:

At least 1 brand new army, It could be interpreted as multiple, but let's say it's just 1. I would call deathrattle or soulblight a "classic army updated for the new edition", as even though they don't currently have a battletome, they have a keyword, and in 1 case, a start collecting box. Certainly not "New"

So I expect at least a new Teclis faction or a brand new Death faction by the end of the year.

For completely new armies, my money would be on Grotbags, the vampire pirates from total warhammer, or Suneaters

Once slaves to darkness comes out, chaos will seem to be more or less rounded out and I think they will do more cleanup of the aelves before adding more into the mix that are completely separate (if the high or dark aelf stragglers got absorbed into the new aelves, then it would be basically an updated high elf or dark elf army rather than a new faction).  This leaves death and destuction as the main groups that need more stuff. The only thing that is out there for death would be the pirates from total warhammer for fleshing out an existing faction (corpse cart and necromancer into a mortals of nagash faction, soulblight, deathrattle,). As for destruction, we have been hearing about grotbags forever and Melcavuk's conversion faction was featured on the community site (https://www.warhammer-community.com/tag/urruks/) so gw might take the idea and make a new faction to contrast the beastclaw ogres ( though this is 95% wishful thinking on my part).

Good guess, but Deathrattle is also a serious possibility. As I wrote above, one of the only characters who Nagash called an ally for any length of time was Krell, who is a wight king. Of course, Vlad is another possibility and could serve as the nucleus of a new Soulblight army.

main reason I see soulblight as a more likely contender than deathrattle is an elite army would benefit more from new allegiance abilities separate from LoN than a horde army like deathrattle that LoN is built around supporting.

  3. My guesses
    Order: Sylvaneth
    Chaos: Slaves to Darkness
Death: Soulblight, just needs plastic bloodknights, foot troops and for the "vampire lord" warscroll to be split up into more specialized heroes (mounted for bloodknights, transformed one for vargheists, chalice carrying one as more spell focused, the other 2  infantry)
Destruction: greenskin soup (gitmob, greenskin, ironjawz, bonesplittaz) done skaven style so you either run melee grots/orruks as battleline or stick to one subfaction plus warmachines

which would fulfill the one new tome per GA promise

as for the "or more" part, my guess would be grotbags, ogres (suneaters and beastclaw would be a nice fire and ice thing), gutbusters being mercs in generals handbook 2019, and fix up the order roster with new aelves being the big January release next year

nah good old archeon isn't that stupid you have direct access to your mortal enemies hearth and you don't send few thousand varanguard to finish the job or pop there to offer Khorne his skull right there after you kill it.  I think eshin works for someone completely different and hidden then you think I think we have a foil to good old tzeench on the scheming department as that type of info fetches decent prize in any faction.

Only skaven (and apparently deadwalkers submerged in water) can survive going through gnawholes.

Chaos warriors have needed a face lift for a long time. I'd rather use my old hunchback warriors than use the stiff, tiny dudes getting used now. It's shocking they have yet to receive a SE equivalent model range.

Playing vermintide 2 really gave me a scale of what chaos warriors are supposed to be that the current models just don't capture.

Giving the chaos warriors a facelift makes sense from a marketting standpoint because it would allow a starterbox where both sides look good, are easy to paint , and (if they flesh out stormhosts like they've been) could include a lore guide with color schemes and their meanings so people feel more involved with their starter armies. Could even include multiple head options for the centerpiece mounted hero where each head is a different named hero from a different stormhost/chaos god.

Does stacking Death Frenzy really work like that? I would just assume that the spells would cancel out, since they aren't dying twice - if it gives you two rounds of attacks for all dead models, that sounds... incredible to say the least.

I might be wrong here, what does everyone else think?

don't know to be honest. This isn't like mtg where how everything uses a universal system to determine how things activate and in what order so we will have to wait for the FAQ and talk it out with our opponents before the game to figure out what we think is fair until then. The text just says "Until your next hero phase, when a model from any of those units is slain, before it is removed from play, it can make a pile-in move and then attack with all of the melee weapons it is armed with". If the text said something along the lines of "that model is then removed as normal" at the end it would be clear. Then there is the "too horrible to die" rule on the HPA warscroll which adds another layer of complexity. Does/can the frenzy rule work first so the model can die, attack, attack, then twitch back to life, die again, attack, attack, die for real?

  7. Lowest point cost, still a lvl 2 caster and bluffs both the battleline options for mixed skaven. Then his spell is pretty flexible and might be worth it to have a grey seer cast the regular version on top of the dreaded verminlord version.

Cast dreaded frenzy on d3 targets that your opponent might want to kill. Cast the non-dreaded version on either another target or one of the d3 targets if the spells happen to stack for a double pile in on death.

Charge their hammer with stormfiends, stormvermin, rat ogres, HPA, himself, etc. Attack, then enemy must counter attack with anything that is within range and any of your rats they kill goes in again.

Dead clawlords attack 8 times so you can make your opponent think twice before sniping a hero that's within 4"  something.

If the spells have the same name you can't cast them both in matched play as far as i can remember.

Verminlord versions of the spells have "dreaded" at the beginning and are slightly better (mortal wound on 4+ for dreaded plague vs 5+ for plague, outside of 6" for dreaded skitterleap vs 9" for skitterleap, d3 targets for dreaded death frenzy vs single target for death frenzy)

  9. So kind of a stupid question but would death frenzy via grey seer lore and dreaded death frenzy via warbringer stack?

    Hypothetical scenario

I have a warbringer on his deathbed and hit him with both spells during the hero phase with a grey deer and the warbringer.

During the combat phase, I used a clawlord's command ability on him and popped beastal fury for +4 attacks on the warbringer

I pile in and attack with the warbringer

Other player attacks the clawlord and it uses verminus valor trait to hide behind the rabid dying warbringer killing the warbringer instead.

Would the warbringer only get 1 pile in/attack or would each spell proc allowing it be able to pile in twice for a glorious swansong of carnage?

Okay, so for a Verminus heavy army with Clanrats, if your general wasn't Masterclan and you don't have a Screaming Bell, how would we control morale losses for Clanrats? I really want to make a Verminlord Warbringer my general, but it looks more and more like a Warpseer with 5+ CP gain trait and the battleshock artifact wedged between two blocks of Clanrats is just going to be an absolute utility machine. A little disappointed  Verminus doesn't get a way to negate that as Strength in Numbers only counts for so much. Or maybe I'm overthinking it?

I just reeeeeaaaly want to field a Warbringer but Masterclan is too good to pass up. Edit: I have an unbuilt Verminlord so I have to decide.

The forgeworld clawlord on brood horror is an extra point in bravery aura (for what that is worth) I was about to say the warbringer has the masterclan keyword so he can take the " Do not take battleshock tests wholly within 13" of bearer" artefact but just checked over the warscroll and it looks like they took that away which bums me out because i wanted to have a immortal verminlord warbringer with the protection of the GHR 5+ fnp, the 5+ fnp artefact and the 5+ divert wound.

you do know what Made to order is right?

it has nothing to do with lore, it just old models from WHF being made one last time for collectors

I hope the reason for no Grimgor Made to Order is that they are going to make him the centerpiece for gitmob greenskins beastmasters as Grimgor, Apex of Ghur.

If I wasn’t mistaken, their have also been rumors of a Skaven Battletome or some kind of a similar release consisting out of skaven models etc. Coming out on the end of February 2019.

if this rumors is or would be true.

i would be very, very...............……………………..................................................................................................................................................................................…………...................………...........................................................................................................................very excited

My birthday is in the last week of Febuary. Will all the clanrats and stormvermin sitting halfpainted on my shelf finally see play?

How would you feel if Skaven and only skaven will be released trough the whole year of 2019.

    wouldnt it get boring?

There needs to be balance between all 4 grand alliances and their combined releases need to equate to Grander Alliance:Skaven.

I think I talk-speak for all my fellow man-things in saying this

  14. So far this year *(not counting shadespire because I don't remember which warbands came out when)

Chaos: 11 new things; 2 new sculpts for existing units (GUO, beast of nurgle),  6 new units (Lord of blight/affliction, pusgoyle blightlords,  spoilpox, sloppity,  Darkoath Warqueen),  1 new scenery /spell model (gnarlmaw), 1 new battletome (2 new allegiances, nurgle and chaos dwarves)

    Destruction: 1 single moonclan model

Death: 24 new things; 1 named character variant for existing sculpt, 1 new sculpt for existing unit (black coach), 14 new units, 3 spell/scenery models 2 battle tomes (5 new allegiances).

Order: 30 new things; 3 new variant warscrolls for old existing sculpts (slaughter queen on cauldron/foot, avatar of khaine), 20 new units (6 DoK, 14 ID, 10 SCE), 4 scenery/spell models (SCE endless and ID boat) and 3 Battletomes (3 new allegiances)

Considering the limited scope of death (all of them serve Nagash except some FEC who fled from Nagash) compared to order (each faction serves it's own god with little overlap and the entire GA is just allies of convenience), Chaos (6 different gods that all hate each, then Archaon and people/goats that worship chaos in general) and even destruction (Great Maw's Ogres and Gorkamorka's Greenskins) death did really well this year.

So I think we've got all the '18 releases for AoS. Who' s got the short stroke for a Battleforce box? 2 last years it was 4 boxes per universe but this year we had 5 big factions releases:

    1. Nurgle

    2. DoK

    3. Idoneth

    4. SCE again and again

    5. Nighthaunt

Unless they increase number of boxes I guess DoK are out as it was the smallest release of them all.

Honestly I see Nurgle as the one most likely to be left out unless the box is basically a rerelease of the "Pestilent Swarm" box because nurgle has this paradox of having access to the most warscrolls yet they have very little variety once you exclude named heroes and the stuff they can take that isn't really "nurgle".

The best nurgle box I could see would be a Lord of Affliction, lord of plague or blights, a sorcerer,  2 units of blightkings, a unit of blightlords which would be a pretty solid force at 1020 points. However, the sprue situation with the LoA and blightlords could be a problem for a box meant to get new people into an army so they'll probably avoid including either of those units. GW seems to avoid putting named heroes in battleforces with the exception of the celestant prime (who was an exclusive when the force containing him was released) and the mortarchs (who could  be built into 3 different units) as well as nonplastic models and things larger than either 120x90mm oval or 100mm round. So we are left with  maggoth lords as the only potential centerpiece, 3 small rotbringer heroes ( sorcerer, lord of plagues/blights), 3 daemon heroes (the 3 heralds), 1 rotbringer unit (blightkings), and 4 daemon units (plaguebearers, drones, nurglings, and beasts) to work with which would most likely end up as the Pestilent Swarm box with an extra small hero thrown in.

  16. My guess is they are going to do Slannesh like they did Nurgle last year, Announcement on "Excess-mas" with models rolling out in January. Storyline is going to progress with more Aelf factions popping up because they are no longer held up keeping Slannesh prisoner
