Yeah, its not as good as first thought. Cogs would help. As would the artefact that lets use reroll charges. But there are other good artefacts out there.
I am pretty much looking at Deathwatch or Monster mash at the moment

the Blisterskin command ability is used at the start of your movement phase and the unit cannot move later in that movement phase. You'll port & charge.
why should you wait till your next hero phase to trigger the battalion ability?
Its a big enough charge. Might as well make it 3".
Royal Mordant Battalion
Lets you make a normal move in your Hero phase for 1 unit in the battalion. With 16" of Varghulf
It doesn't say start of phase so could be after the teleport. I must be missing something.

I just had a first glance at the new battletome. I must be missing something. But if we take the Royal Mordants battalion with 12 Horrors and the Blisterkin Grand Court is there anything stopping us from teleporting 12 Horrors near the enemy then having a normal move after in the Hero phase? That normal move could be with the flying spell, +2 move for Grand Court and extra 4" move spell.
Biggest limitation is that they have to stay wholly within 16" of Vargulf. This could be 40 Ghouls too. Flayers are fast enough not too worry about all this shenanigans.
12 Horrors buffed with spells and should be within range of a running GKoZD could really do damage. Plus the attack twice.
If this is allowed I expect it to be FAQ'd quickly.

What are people generally going to aim for summoning first turn?
In thr old battletome I always tried to get my summoning out as quick as possibly. Our Heroes are very vulnerable and we didn't have any other command abilities to use CP's on. I am still aiming for 1st turn summon all. It can give board control and the more the merrier.

Maybe sneak in a Dragon... while your general summons 2x3 H/F he could bring in a much needed regaining hero (varghulf)
I'd love a dragon in that list. The shooting attack is very good. Only a roll of a 2 misses a single hero. Great at snipping. Problem is that Ghouls are 100. Our cheapest battleline. Just about get 2 GKoTg and 2 units. But I think it is a strong as it gets. Not many other factions can summon 420 points in a 1,000 game.

I've a 1.5k game tonight using this list. FEC are new to me so trying it out. I think I would fair better at 2k.
GKoZD (general)
GK x 2
10 Ghouls x 3
6 Horrors
Battalion - Royal Family
I'm worried that 6 horrors might not be enough. 9 would probably survive a double turn and then regenerate. I had the choice between the battalion or 3 Horrors. Getting 2 GK, less drops, better regen from Varghulfs and extra artefact will hopefully be better.

you add a fresh new ghoulking to your army...once (iirc), not really that strong.
Unless your General has Majestic Horror, the you get 2 Ghoul Kings. They have flexibility in coming on the board at any edge. The psychological impact is good. Especially if you are already summoning 2 Varghulfs or 2 x 3 Horrors. Strong abush.
Agree with Ghouls being expensive compared to others.

How are people playing the "Skewering Strike" ability for Crypt Flayers? Subject to modifiers or natural 6's for mortals. The wording isn't great on the warscroll.
Just noticed the posts on page 4. Looks like a Natural 6 then.

@Honk @The Nameless One I agree wkth the max size of 40. That's how I'm going to play it until an FAQ. We should be happy enough for having a battalion that "adds" rather "returns".
My main worry is the time it's going to take for games if you have over 100 ghouls.

Question re. Majestic Horror. I initially read it that your general can summon twice, in the same hero phase, once per battle? Is that how others are playing it?
Your General can double summon anytime he uses his Command Ability. He only has a one time use summon, but combine with Royal Family battalion for another ability
Turn 1
GkoZD with Majestic Horror
2 x Varghulf (1 CP)
2 x Ghoul King (1 CP)

I prefer the GKoZD over GKoTG. Double Varghulf will return so many Ghouls. Couple of extra heroes will also help with scenarios

Don't forget The Flayed Pennant artefact. 4" charge rerollable is hard to beat.
I'm thinking 2 Varghulfs rather than 2 x 3 Horrors for Majestic Horror.

This should push FEC up the rankings a bit. Ghoul Patrol will not kill much but will last all day and control the board
-
I see. The new errata doesn't mention GK anymore. Nice.
Does anyone know of there is a consensus on the Ghoul Patrol battalion allowing you to add Ghouls above the starting numbers (but below max)?

Played a game yesterday, this was my list:
Allegiance: Flesh Eater Courts
- Delusion: The Grand Tournament
Mortal Realm: Shyish
Leaders
Abhorrant Ghoul King on Zombie Dragon (440)
- Artefact: Blood River Chalice
Crypt Haunter Courtier (140)
- General
- Trait: Magestic Horror
- Artefact: The Flayed Pennant
Varghulf Courtier (160)
Battleline
9 x Crypt Horrors (480)
6 x Crypt Horrors (320)
30 x Crypt Ghouls (300)
Battalions
Attendants at Court (160)
Total: 2000 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 1
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 118Fought against a very nasty Nurgle+Archaon list, won on objectives as he destroyed my army, but could not get back from my early lead. I really like this list, I’m gonna test it more.
Would this list not be stronger with splitting the Ghouls in 3 x 10? Then you could have the GKoZD as General with extra Varghulf summon and have a chance of getting the extra command points every round.

It been mentioned earlier that its a chance to block line of sight. But I also think it can help with board control. Its a 50/50 against Sylvaneth but being able to seal off a part of the board where they can summon woods is good.
Putting the Throne is the way of big base models like Nagash, Gordrakk or a Stonehorn can be really strong.
