  1. As a long time O&G collector:

    1. I don’t need 2 new armies, if I want Kruleboyz then I’ll wait until I can buy them only.

    2. Destruction doesn’t need another mini faction. Only Gloomspite feel “complete“ in the entire Grand Alliance. I’m not buying another orruk faction unless it’s a healthy range of models. My Ironjawz are still waiting to be expanded with some new releases.

    3. The hobgrotz don’t do it for me. Give me engineering gitmob with machines (preferably a foil to KO and ironweld). Don’t think we need something in between grots and orruks.

I have to say that I saw the Kruleboyz yesterday in person and they looked good, but am still not really tempted for the above reasons.

  2. @Okonomiyakimarine I really like the concept of this list thematically as it has a wide variety of units.

I'm a bit surprised in so many people focusing on spamming units (i.e., blood knights) because if they are that good then they will likely get downgraded in not too distant future. Spammy lists are only for those willing to retool their army every year or two. It's an expensive way to build and collect armies.

  3. This was a big turn-off for me as well initially, but after reading the entire battletome I was ok with it. My recollection is that it presents a wide range of views for Fyreslayers collecting ur-gold, from it being a sacred duty to get closer to Grimnir to pragmatic views, including working for, or fighting literally anyone being the most extreme.

In general, I would say that GW tends to focus on the worst of dwarven traits however. I was crazy excited when the Dwarfs omnibus was released for the world-that-was but even there, GW twisted positive themes of honor and duty into huge negatives, to the point that Thanes were threatening to kill human village infants/toddlers for generation old grudges or dying for really poorly conceived acts of honor (drowning by not taking off an ancestral helmet off or something similarly nonlogical/irrational). My favorites have always been dwarves and O&G but a lot of GWs writing for both tend to focus on the worst instead of the best.

Gotrek doesn’t count as he is his own thing.

This right here is exactly how I feel and I don't think Pro-Soup people understand (with all due respect).  Kharadron have so much fleshed out lore and a very very defined theme.  They don't even act like the typical Dwarf when it comes to royalty and religion.
The Ogres and Orcs factions both had unifying themes that made them easy to mesh together which wont be as easy for the KO if at all possible without throwing the KO's belief system out the window.

I think that the themes of mercenary tendencies, classic duradin greed, settling grudges and taking back what was lost could be a logical foundation of greater cooperation. Religion and royalty are not required.

Some Fyreslayers lodges will take contracts with anyone for the right price, even Chaos, unless this was written out of the second battletome.

  5. If Fyreslayers were to receive just 1 new dual-kit that was something other than “duradin on foot with X weapons” then I think they would feel much more varied and complete, and as a result would be more popular.

This was an issue even in WHFB, where too much of the dwarf range was just dwarves on foot with different weapons. Combing Fyreslayers and Dispossessed does nothing to remedy this decades old issue.

A soup battletome only would excite me if it is accompanied by at least modest expansions of the Fyreslayer and Dispossessed ranges. Neither Fyreslayers or Dispossessed need more duradin on foot units.

  6. Hello! I'm interested in starting Soulbright Gravelords but almost everything appears to be sold out. Although I'm not a highly competitive player, I'm slow on the hobby side and obviously don't want to be crushed every game. Currently, the Start Collecting appears to be the only option to start collecting right now.

Is the Start Collecting a good place to start a new force? It seems that many are down on the Black Knights. Is there a clean winner regarding Grave Guard configuration? I prefer the aesthetics of the weapon and shield option. Thanks.

  7. As a 20-year+ collector of O&G/Destruction, I've been surprisingly uninspired  so far. It's mostly the hobgrotz. They just feel unnecessary to me. If we were getting new Gitmob instead of hobgrotz I would probably be all in, or even just more orruks I would prefer.

I also don't love the lower body length/proportions of the orruks. As a result, I'll probably sit on the sidelines until we see the whole range.

The breaka-boss just seems silly to me, and not in the fun Gloomspite way.

There are definitely parts of the range that I really like, but not enough yet to get me to start collecting yet another Destruction faction.

  8. "The Bad Moon Loonshrine is a lynchpin in Gloomspite Gitz armies, disgorging teeming hordes of infantry and emboldening your forces. Hewn from glowing chunks of the Bad Moon itself, these megalithic structures quickly become encrusted with fungi and charged with strange energies."

There is a bit more on the warscroll from the website.

I have run out of Orruk models to paint (except for a Warchanter and I have two done) and have no Gloomspite models either (almost finished Rippa's Snarlfangs).  I am not in the mood for painting more Cities at the moment, so have been digging through my old stuff.  I have plenty of old metal orcs from back in the day and some 32mm bases,  So I was wondering whether there is a case for having  30 or 40 Orruks (limited by no of bases) in a Big Waagh army and if the Greenskins will survive past GHB 2020.  I made 8 Snotling bases last year, had a couple of games with them, then saw them disappear, so am slightly wary about putting the effort in.  I would appreciate any thoughts you might have, thanks.

I probably have 50 of the metal Arrer Boyz, which look great despite lacking in model diversity. I plan to proxy them as the Savage equivalent. A nice thing about the old Greenskinz is that there is a very obvious Savage equivalent for most of it. I'm expecting the Greenskinz to go away.

I also have a pile of the basic boyz that I purchased the better looking heads and spears for from the boar boyz. If I ever follow through with that project I'll also proxy them as the Savage equivalent. The Greenskinz will aesthetically mix better with the Ironjawz IMO.

I agree that would be very cool to have mounted/unmounted versions of both but I think it’s very unlikely.

We’ve never seen that level of granularity of choices/options in AoS.

Magmadroth includes both mounted and unmounted options, although you have to buy more than one to get both configurations of each hero.

  11. Just checking in to say that the last generation of metal longbeards were probably my favorite Duardin models made by GW. They were just full of character while the first generation of plastics were far inferior in at least dwarven character, across the board. Really impressed by what's left of the Dispossessed models however and even if they are not expanded, I would really like for Dispossessed to be supported in the smaller games such as Warcry and Underworlds. Being able to game with small bands of classic dwarves would be enough for me.

  12. At one time mine was probably about that large, but during the beginning of 8th, I sold everything but my Orcs and Goblins and a few metal ogres that I really like (i.e. All the maneaters). I probably had ~1,000 points of at least 6 different armies in addition to my O&G.

During AOS, I've done fairly well by keeping it in the Destruction family except for Underworlds. Mostly just Ironjawz and Gloomspite to date. Warcry and Underworlds is really threatening my collection boundaries however, especially as those games probably fit my lifestyle better now.

I have woefully little time for hobbies and gaming so mostly I live vicariously through others on this forum and elsewhere.

  13. The Heart of Winter novella was basically a throwback to the original dark elves, with witch elves teaming up with scourge privateers on a black ark or whatever the old floating fortresses are. Personally I wouldn't mind the old dark elves being recombined. Not necessarily likely but I could see DoK being combined with something else eventually. I actually think that it would make them a more interesting faction.

  14. I can definitely see GW releasing a kit for cogforts. Similar to kharadron ships, it would be smaller than what it would have to be in real life. I mean the kharadron ships really are clown cars, but that doesn’t keep them from looking awesome on a game table.

I could see GW eventually releasing a cogfort that looks like it could only house a handful of men, but like the kharadron ships everyone is supposed to imagine that it would be much larger in real life.

@Melcavukthat is one of the coolest things I’ve seen for AOS to date!

  15. The "problem" with Seraphon is that they started AOS and continue to be one of the largest factions, model-wise. As a result, I can understand if expanding the faction is not all that attractive to GW. Unlike most every other faction, they were not broken apart in the transition to AOS.

I agree with others that they are going no where. Unique aesthetic and lore, highlighted a lot in early lore and novels, and what little evidence we do have suggests they still sell. Even little things like Lustria Online suggests that Seraphon keep a strong following. In contrast, most of the old sites have gone dormant.

New core, kroxigor and plastic heroes would be awesome, but not necessary IMO. I think Seraphon starting AOS with a robust model line has stunted their evolution more than anything else.

  16. Using loud and odor producing black powder weapons in the wilds of the realms may well be a death sentence. Seems like a sure fire way to draw the attention of some bigger, more deadly predator(s). As a result, maybe black powder weapons are only really logical for those that spend most of their time hiding behind city walls!

  17. I feel like GW tested the waters on a Gargant army with the skirmish box sets that provided 2 gargants at a big discount (practically 2 for the price of 1 IIRC) and the associated battalion in Godbeasts. My anecdotal observation was that they didn't sell that well. I've often wondered whether we would get a Gargant army if they did sell really well.

  18. Really enjoying the new ogor. Tons of character. Don’t disagree however that its look doesn’t fit great within the beast claw vibe.

My first thought when I saw it was that it’s a new take on the old Mordheim ogre, who also had an Empire vibe. I’ll be grabbing this one.
