Come on, what do we think? An article with an example warscroll would be excellent …

I think it will be a zoom in on the rules to build up what has changed and we will see an example warscroll after this (similar to what they did with 40K). I'm refreshing the community site a lot at moment as I can't wait! :D

So I know an unsupported game technically can be played in perpetuity, but for all practical purposes unsupported wargames are effectively dead within a year.

Off topic - I agree with that but it also depends on how it is supported. For example, I've rediscovered Warmaster and off to a tournament in May (borrowing a mates army). It has quite a good community and is well supported with regular reviews and events. So if it has a good community supporting it, then it's going to be okay. But also to add, even if the company still supports the game, if nobody is playing it, it doesn't survive! This is why GW games are so popular due to lots of people playing them.

Will we have Thunderstrike and non-Thunderstrike side by side? Or maybe, what's staying is getting a resculpt, but also some units will get cut for good?

    Yes.

    :D

Or to go into more detail - I think they will slowly redesign all the models that are not wearing Thunderstrike armour and bring them out. It's what they have been doing with Space Marines for years (and other ranges as they get updated through design changes), so this will be no different. The question is, how much will happen for the Stormcast release this year or will we just get lots of new stuff over the next few?

I wonder how the reception of Stormcast would have been if they had looked like this from the start.

I suspect people would have reacted the same. You have to remember at the time, the game a lot of people loved got destroyed. Then this new game appears with four pages of rules and one half of the new models looking a bit like Space Marines. I really think it would be the same.

I have to say that @Gaz Taylor was right. Liberators look cooler on the mini than in all the renders/ pics we had so far. Also, the new paint scheme (not new, I know) helps a lot.

Tell my wife I got something right! :D

Very nice. The Hallowed Knights colour scheme looks so much better than the Hammers of Sigmar too IMO.

In my opinion, this is the scheme they should have set as the standard for Stormcast. Gold looks cool but it can be a bit uninteresting to paint and look at. I know it was to have a set models that were easy to paint for new players

There was a rumor about teams for AoS and TOW competing a bit in intern and such. But it's pretty clear than now TOW is there and it's all focused on having the old miniatures back in line, making definitive separate miniature ranges for both games does have more weight.

It was probably a friendly rivalry than anything. Especially if you think may of the people involved in AOS used to be fanatical Warhammer players :D

We even saw the short from warcom where rivals are forced to work together. Extend that to the clans and you have the 4th edition Skavens.

Ha! I knew I had read something recently about it.

I like that they are moving out of the shadow of The Old World and moving more away from this is just X army displaced from it. It's been slowly happening for years but it should be it's own thing now :D

Can't find my original quote, but again, if GW chops the clans I'm dropping AoS forever and never looking back, too many other generic flavourless systems to use my rats in to just conform with one, etc.

Not been keeping up too much with what has been going on but if I was to guess, I'd say think Ork Klans from 40K. So you have for example Stormboyz which are typically Blood Axe, but you can also have Goff Stormboyz. I think with Skaven we will still see Plague Monks but they will be less Clan Pestilens and more just Plague Monks. A casual look at the Warhammer Store, I only see mention of the Clan for Plague Monks. All the other Pestilens units do not mention the clan.

So do I see that they are loosing a cool bit of background with the clans - no. I'm sure it's just evolved into something different. With the Skaven Vermindoom, there must have been some sort of uniting thing to happen to Skaven but I'm sure they will still backstab each other like always.

  7. My two pence…

Articles so far: Yes they are like pulling teeth/watching paint dry as we all want the juicy info now, but it’s aimed at players who haven’t played AOS or haven’t played in a while. I hope we get something meaty soon and I’m hoping for some videos from experienced players or playtesters about the game. I’m guessing that will be after the game is out from influencers.

Double Turn: It’s part of the game and it’s a unique part of how it works. Fully fine with it staying and like the idea in games with battle tactics if you choose the double you sacrifice playing a battle tactic. Nice idea as means you have a chance to stop your opponent from scoring big or preventing them from doing a easy one.

edit - also interesting how it works in games without battle tactics. Is it the same, not used or something else?

Really excited but want more info now!

On an entirely different note, the replacement of Battleshock with Control  has a lot of potential.

It might just be a rebranding, like Health, but there's a lot of interesting possibilities here. They could go the 40k route and make it a roll off to see if the unit can contest an objective and receive commands.

It might also become a stat that determines how well a unit holds an objective, possibly a more refined/granular version of what we have now (heroes, monsters, ogres, gargants, etc.) This option strikes me as the more interesting from the lore/immersion perspective, but also more likely to cause imbalance.

If my memory serves me correctly, Matt who is the Design Lead for AOS used to work in the Video Game industry. So we may see a bit of crossover and rework

I doubt they will move all these products to the UK. They were Made in China because of the low cost and the not hurry to be "In Stock". It is more possible that they will make them irrelevant for the new edition before the process of moving all the equipment to the UK

Yup. Plus I imagine it's easier to ship from China due to the infrastructure and less red tape due to a vote the UK took in 2016 :(

When I spoke about it in store I was told not entirely sure yet so it may be good to wait and see in case of buying a Vanguard box and finding out later it's changed contents for Spearhead.

Yeah this is the main reason why I'm not rushing out to buy any at the moment! I think what my plan will be using my Flesh Eaters as I had the army box for Christmas (yes I have mixed thoughts!) and all I need to get is the Arch Regent.

    I was wondering about that.

Getting an Index doesn't guarantee getting a new battletome though. The factions being legended out of TOW got one free PDF ruleset, and then will be getting nothing else. BoC getting a free index PDF, and then nothing else would be consistent with that - especially if there's a replacement faction on the horizon

    Yup. Totally agree with this.

However, I am of the school of thought that Beasts of Chaos are not going but we may see the range changing. I think the concept of BOC is about right now but the models do need an update. I think this is what will probably happen.

  12. +++ Mod Hat On +++

Just a note about some of the recent comment about peoples view. At TGA, we welcome all sorts of views and we do not expect everybody to be super positive about GW. HOWEVER, we expect any views to be in a courteous and constructive way and not just "GW SUCKS".

BUT this goes both ways and just because somebody disagrees with you, means you should still treat them in a respectable manner. So a poke at EVERYBODY to be thinking about this.

At the end of the day, this is a forum to discuss something we all enjoy. Lets make sure we all enjoy talking about it and not making comments that will wind each other up.

It's okay to not agree with each other or be positive about stuff. Just be NICE to each other and CONSTRUCTIVE with our criticism!

Also, I think we would see a decent chunk of the minis before that May first contact.

    I hope we do!

Again I'm doing everything in my power to avoid rushing out and buying Skaven models on my lunchbreak but I have also been looking at the Vanguard boxes and wanting to paint up loads of them!

I wonder if there is gonna be some new edition info on WarCom today

I think they will follow the 40K 10th edition build up and we will see something. With them showing off the game for people to play in May, we should be getting bits of rules over April as well as faction focuses.

Some of us of course weren't there in 2015-2018 but come on ! GW has done it many times, and the first iteration was the best IMO, during Malign Portents (on its website with the excellent short stories), 6 years ago before AOS2 !

Azyr is just spatialy above and the "axis" of the other realms rotation. Shyish isn't under the rest of the realms.

Alas this video now is unreferenced, as it was then replaced in AOS2 with this one, less clear but still :

All of it was also posted on Warhammer Community. BTW we are one click away from a Wiki answering how the Realms work. And the various iterations of the AOS website also have a map of the Realms and a timeline :

    https://ageofsigmar.com/explore-the-realms/

I wasn’t aware of any of that so that’s ace they’ve already done it. Still think it’s cool they’ve done a quick primer for everybody

If you are well versed in the lore, then no this offers nothing new.

However, it's a brilliant primer and something they should have done years ago as anybody new to the game and background gets a great start in understanding what is happening. It's to the point but covers the main things people need to know about the setting. They need to do a video on this and get it on Youtube to make it more accessible to new players.

I think he ask if the launch box set will be revealed at this event or before.

I think it will be on 16th. I think we will see teases of it but full box reveal will be then when people are playing games with the models.

  18. 6 minutes ago, Still-young said:

Full reveal before or around then then, if they're showing the models in person.

It's going to be on 16th May from 1900 local time to the event. They say so on the page (if you read between the lines :D )

    Quote

The event in Texas will be part of the US Open in Dallas, which is being held at the Esports Stadium Arlington, and runs from the 16th to the 19th of May. Attendees must also have a ticket to the US Open event, though there will be a live stream starting at 7pm local time on the 16th.

I'm hoping to go to the UK event on that weekend but lets see how many wife points I can save (I'm already at a Warmaster event at the start of the month!).

Definitely battalions would be the first thing to go, and we just end up with no army construction limits besides rule of 3/6 like current 40k

I agree Battalions will go. I suspect we will see something similar to 40K where you choose a 'detachment' (which will probably be called Battalions!) to theme your list and build from there.

Andy Chambers said in a recent interview that he wished that he'd pushed that through back around 1999.

Due to the modern GW aversion to it (specialist games notwithstanding) they're having to try and create mechanics so they don't have to.

As much as I love alternating activations, I suspect part of the issue with it is how the general public would see it. If you are making a game which anybody could pick up, having a traditional turn system is an easier sell than alternating units. Plus there can be a lot of book keeping with such systems. Not saying it's right or wrong but that's probably the feedback GW have had.

This would be ideal. It's such a pity that GW has absolutely no grasp of moving-with-the-times, and will probably be still doing the same old thing when we're all tucked up in our graves.

I don't think it's GW. I think if you did a survey about books, you would find that may people probably still want them.

I actually find it interesting that the 4th ed hype cycle is already starting even though the Dawnbringers hype cycle is not yet finished.

Makes you wonder how many issues have been going on in the background for this to happen. Maybe Dawnbringers should have been started earlier?

All I know is I want 4th edition now! :D

However, the deal breaker for me is how wounds (or appropriate toughness) and points cost reflect the actual units themselves. Because if they point armies to the, well, point where it becomes even more expensive to enter the hobby I'm out.

I think they mentioned in the video that they are staying roughly the same as what is in 3rd now. I may have misremembered that though or thinking about a rumour, but I don't think points will change too much.

Love the settings GW have created and I know that every designer are really passionate about what they do but recent times the business side of GW have really put a dampener on my excitement, e.g. I am very glad I didn't jump on the FEC bandwagon just yet because they will got WE:ed.

GW have done this for about 30 years and it's not going to change. It's annoying with FEC how close the book appeared to the new edition but it's the nature of the beast. I'd love GW to move away from armybooks and just have source books with art and background and keep gaming stuff online there's probably just as many people out there who like having a book.

Do you think this would affect the index? I don't think so. Why would affect it? I see more relevant the fact that TOW dawis are using the current CoS sprues that a city, whose main citizens are High Elves, is destroyed.

I was thinking more about units being removed but just remembered Phoenix Guard have already gone. But expecting some models to be dropped in the process
