Man I feel like this pre-edition period is going by like such a slog, I wish we were already past it so we could not only play the game but also get on with more rumours.

Yeah it's really weird. It's horrible to get the info drip fed but looking back at the articles it is always cool to see how it all fits together.

The worst bit though is the lull after the game comes out as it will be Summer, everything goes a bit quiet as typically there are no big releases until September.

However, if anybody from GW is reading this and thinks it would be good to do a TGA show off, I'm sure it would be cool to invite a few of us to Warhammer World to do a video :D

This could be a silly question, I was hoping to get it clarified in the posts at some point, but what is USR standing for? The results I get from Google don't make too much sense.

    Universal Special Rules

edit - no question is silly by the way if you don’t know the answer 😉

Charging a unit during your opponent's turn without any disadvantage is way more impactful than shooting with a -1 to hit the closest unit at the end of his shooting phase

Yup, especially as it can be used to move units to contest objectives or get into your opponents part of the board (depending on how you win games in new edition). Also seem very powerful when used with some unit abilities with how they've sneaked this into the preview!

I know they have said that extra CP generated by heroes would be very rare, but have they said anything about heroes having built in abilities to use command abilities for free?

If (and that should be IF :D), I've read the article correctly, there is no way to get extra CP. I imagine for Hero's they may get an aura ability or a "LEEROY JENKINS!!!!" ability but I don't think we will see anything about using command abilities.

    Yeah. No.

This is exactly NOT what i wanted to read: more generic command abilities.

I am aware the more active parts of the community like them and am happy for everyone who does. Personal tastes and all.

But i find them a major PITA and only good for gotcha/npe moments. Double turn at least creates tention/chaos.

I will of course try it after release but chances i am going to skip playing yet another edition just increased significantly. :(

This might be where the modular rules come into effect. Don't like something, try playing games with out it. I know this will largely depend on your gaming group but it is an option now which should be cleaner to do.

Looks pretty good. Big question, for me, is if these 10 are the sum total of commands that will be in the game, or if there will be faction- or unit-specific ones as well.

I suspect there will be some faction ones. At a guess there probably will be say two faction ones, and then one for each battle formation to make it unique. (bit like 40k ;) )

Why does charging cost twice as much as shooting when you already have a much shorter range and unreliable result?

Probably because Covering Fire can only target the closest visible unit and has -1 to hit rolls! Counter Charge is more powerful in my opinion as you can choose your target and doesn't have any negatives apart from if you are rubbish at rolling dice (like me! :D ).

Overall, I quite like these changes. Adds a nice layer to the game and all seem useful. Can see Redeploy being used a lot to contest or capture last minute objectives! :D

I have to say I want to buy stuff to get ready for 4th ed so I've a new army to play for the edition, but I don't feel like I know what to buy. BoC, BS and Sacrosanct, despite logically knowing they've rules support for the next year, has definitely had an impact on my confidence. I feel Lumineth, Hedonites or OBR are safe bets though.

Without opening fresh wounds, as GW can change anything whenever they want to (dropping Fantasy to create Age of Sigmar for example), I can say advice I was given years ago - If unsure what to go for due to worries about changes, go for the latest newest thing. So I would say any Stormcast and Skaven models you buy on release will be fine. But always remember that GW's business model is to get players to go and buy new stuff with changing how the rules work (such as a new edition or revised battletome).

I find it curious how the back side of the axe simulates the ruination flames. Also, the Gryph-Stalker is clearly a crow.

For the Skavens one, I find it interesting that he has a spear made of warpstone:

I like all of this but in these cases always put it as artistic licence. The rules may not work that way, but it looks cool if you painted it that way :D

Just to say again - I love how enthusiastic Chapter Master Valrak is and I do enjoy watching most of his videos as you can get a creative hobby buzz off them, BUT he is a Content Creator who's job is to get you to watch his videos.

Something completely a challenge to logic.

Oooh. Has my rantings about a mecha piloted by a organic blob going to come true?

I'd love to see some sort of thing similar to the Guardians from Breath of the Wild as well but that may be a bit too much like Bonereapers

Can I just say, as a working class person from southeast England, that the use of "wot haz we 'ere" type dialogue from orcs/gargants/ogors/any stupid antagonist, plays into negative class stereotypes.

I work in the City of London, which is dominated by public school educated rich boys. I encounter these prejudices every day, where people consider me boneheaded purely because of my accent. It's high time GW stopped punching down.

As mentioned previously - I'm very sure that GW are not trying to be culturally insensitive with their products.

Can we stop this discussion right now and get back to talking about Warhammer, new Age of Sigmar and how cool the new Skaven stuff looks.

If Gw were to expand the production of mini-minis then I think I would prefer them to expand upon LI and have full EPIC. If something like Underworlds were to be retired/replaced I would love to see a new fantasy naval game although it has next to 0% happening due to the Dreadfleet debacle.

I too would love a fantasy naval game but I agree it will never happen due to Dreadfleet. Dreadfleet was ace but people expected Man O War rather than a board game in it's own right, Same with full Epic as well but I doubt it will happen.

Anyway, back to AOS rumours. What will we see today in the preview article? How Magic Works?

I'm the exact opposite. I'd be much more interested in the rank and flank game if it was set in the mortal realms.

If only GW made a game a bit like Warmaster so you could have giant Godbeasts stomping around and hills trying to eat you. :D

i really hope those rumours be 100% fake, because the part where gw expect we change armys every 5 years...... i would drop warhammer 100% and would try to sell all my armys while they wasnt killed.

I'm pretty sure those rumours are fake and just recycled thoughts and wishlisting.

I put my name down... although I fear it may be too late to reverse the decision regarding the poor beasties, at least it might make GW a bit more thoughtful before axing any further factions from a game.

I'm pretty sure it is unfortunately. This would have been a decision made months and months ago and I doubt this would reverse it.

However, it might demonstrate that people are interested in the idea of Beasts of Chaos and if GW aren't doing anything already, might start playing around with the concept.

But there is little chance that this would change the decision.

Are these spears, or two handed weapons?

Because if they are spears, then thats 20 clanrats with swords/// 20 clanrats with spears for the box

    Both? :D

I think they are just rusted weapons they have found and are using.

    On another note....

Warhammer World are going to be selling tickets for a Painting workshop on the new Skaven on 18th May

    https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-mortal-realms-reforged-hobby-classes-skaven-tickets-871926855697?aff=ebdsoporgprofile&keep_tld=1

Not sure if it is a good deal for a painting workshop, but £100 for the knowledge, paints, brushes and model doesn't seem end of the world. Pretty sure my wife wouldn't see it like that though! :D

While it is valid to look at things and see how it may reference something disgusting, I'm very confident that is not what is being referred to with the Skaven standard bearer shown off today in the AOS4 model preview.

I think it is good to question such things and never allow it into our lives, but I will state that I'm very confident that is not what GW intend (or want to!).

Lets end the discussion about it now

Honestly, these are perfect. I want a full army immediately. Skaven were the first army I collected when I was given my first White Dwarf because they reminded me of the Red wall books, pretty much the only literature I was interested in.

Yeah they are great. I've always wanted a Skaven army since reading the 4th edition Skaven army book and attempted it around 6th or 7th edition and cried a lot from painting slaves. I think I'm ready to attempt it again :D

    Behold, a rat(s)!

    Very pleased.

I was hoping they would do a refinement and not complete redesign on what it is to be a Skaven and they have done a great job. Think this will be the first AOS set where I want to paint up both sides rather than just one.

Now if only GW would send an advance copy to a moderator of a certain forum to paint up in advance (note - chances of painting are slim) :D

Looks like it won't be as annoying to assemble as the Kruleboyz in the starter set. Will be interesting to see what is shown off today (just a clanrat or more-more! :D )

Wonder it we'll get a decent road map at some point, or will be an only 2023 road map. Feels AoS is desperate for som clarity.

I doubt we will see road maps for a while. The issue I think they had was tying themselves into a commitment to customers and then for whatever issues behind the scenes (I suspect manufacturing) they struggle to get stuff out.
