    It's certainly affected my spending habits, since Carrion Empire and the Gloomspite box I've spent less than £150 for the reasons below;

I feel that because of the constant spam of releases (yes I'm calling it that) I've certainly not spent as much as I would've before and this is because GW are pushing a product that is being touted as "limited" when in reality you could've got the parts seperately before, however you do save money in a bundle.... BUT on the flipside I'm not happy with GW artificially inflating the prices by using single models as justification as to why you NEED to buy Army X vs Army Y box because Dave the Wizard isnt going to be out for a while as an individual model.

At this point in the calendar year I'm going to wait for the new xmas stuff to see which I'm moderately interested in, otherwise it'll be the odd purchase here and there but one of my major considerations of an army is now what's the price of the models, what's the variety like and does their SC box hold value - I'm not tight but GW's products are going up in price and there seem's to be no consistency in their releases, it's very scattergun and the "limited" releases definately feel like you'll get model envy if your mate buys Feast of Bones or one of the MANY other boxed sets that's appearing.

Not to sound super anti GW, but there are some alternative manufacturers and game systems I'm happily enjoying because of GW's rampant growth (Magic ftw) Warmahordes, Guild Ball etc, heck I've played Airsoft more in the last 5 months than the last 2 years because 2 boxes of GW's "limited" product is the price of a mid range AEG.

Speaking of magic, it seems to be quite a trend with these big corporations to keep increasing the price on stuff. I wonder if GW saw what Hasbro is doing with rediculously priced collector edition MTG stuff and went "You know what? We can do that too!"

The notable move towards monopose models is also a contributing factor to my increasing unwillingness to drop fat stacks on plastic crack. Having shelled out a fair bit for Chainrasps in 2018, I now have however many of those little buggers repeating the same ten poses over and over again. They're cracking designs, no argument, and the easy to build aspect made getting them out of the sprue and onto their bases a doddle, but... frankly, Clanrats look better, and that's solely down to the tiny facts that you have the option to pair different arms with different bodies, and pose the arms. It's a bit tedious having to remodel my Stormfiends to achieve the bare minimum of the appearance of variation between them. I wish GeeDubs would go back to the system of interchangeable arms, legs, heads, etc which was such a winner, both in terms of model appearance and conversion opportunities.

I personally feel most sets offer enough variety in poses and options to customize a head or weapon that it hardly bothers me. What does bother me a lot is that almost every kit nowadays has some super fragile weak spot. Like the corvus cabal, the raven on the head. Eidolon in idoneth - the spear, in fact, anything spear-like tends to just break off.

I have 100+ clanrats with spears, while some tail tips have broken sometimes. I am yet to break a single spear. Stuff is just getting so flimsy and thin XD.

Does anyone want a Kidney? Or how about a bit of liver - or a lung!

Fairly sure I can do without them in order to be able to afford next week! *

Now that's a launch! Boxes of 20 surprises me, though I'm really excited to see the cavalry!

We also finally get to see this guy

    GW-PreOrder-Oct27-Mortisan2sgrd.jpg

*failing that I've got some high elf chariots and wood elves....... ;)

It might be best to convert that model a bit to have the energy connected to his hand. Two contact points are less likely to break. It looks super fragile otherwise XD.

  4. For me personally I started the hobby 17 years ago when a nice character model was about 8 euro and a big box like a battalion about 40 or 50 if I am not mistaken. However, back then a purchase would normally not lose support at all. Like my Tau 40k stuff, despite new sculpts being released are still useable and have been stripped maaaany times and repainted with Gw paints.

Prices going up didnt bother me initially as it felt like the sculpt quality was getting better. It felt like an investment in time and money to buy and paint stuff. As a result I happily spent A LOT on things like tomb kings, Skaven, elves, bretonnia, etc, especially after AOS got released. I even kept buying custom round bases from GW at 4 euro each (the large oval ones). Soon I felt the sting however when stuff kept being discontinued or changed. Like sayl was a staple in my Skaven army and yes I know it was cheesy, but it is now eating dust. Or my warpfire stormfiends cant be used as-is anymore due to weapon loadouts rules having changed.

I feel everything GW produces nowadays has an expiration date. Wether its through power creep or rules changes or armies no longer being supported. I feel the thing they broke the most is trust. I don't mind paying high prices for quality models, or their overpriced paint, but when I can't be sure that my tactic or army is still useable in a year, I have to think very carefully before making a purchase. Its not just the price of a model. Even a simple foot troop takes about 6 hours at least to build, clean, undercoat, paint, varnish, etc. A unit of 40 is like working full time for 1.5 months with no rewards other than feeling you are making "your" army to battle with as long as you desire. To have that all stripped away again and again by GW like its nothing, it just feels bad. Very bad.

I keep on considering to quit GW games completely, not because of the money, but rather the feeling of wasted effort, time and resources. I now mostly enjoy the painting aspect of the hobby, but no longer the gaming as a result.

I wish instead of going up in price, they would make some cheap competitive armies instead, so they earn their money through new players rather than keep trying to milk customer loyalty instead.

I cant even convince a single friend to start Warhammer due to the pricing.

TBH, after reading the OBR yesterday and the Ogors today reveals, I have absolutly NO clue about the value of the box in game. 😕

GW make us buy a box without knowing anything. By "making us" I mean "force us" because of the 2 heros not available outside the box. And knowing GW that did in the past a limited release of such boxes, we can't reasonably avoid this oportunity. This is anoying. Yes, I know, we always have the choice. But phhhhh.

More of this, no idea about the inclusion of Morghasts into the OBR army: will GW add an additional keyword to them? Will they benefit from the OBR mechanics? etc...

Same for Ogors: how does the mix of BCR and ogors work? What are the battleline choices?...

Last time I was interrested in a box set everything was sold out before I could make a decision. Maybe they want us to feel like we may miss out on an opportunity if we don't buy it now. Just have to wait and hope stuff is still on sale after. Too much risk buying into it without any knowledge or at least some theory crafting a list or two.

I kind of want to see all the warscrolls before I buy anything. Also the scrolls of unreleased stuff.

I honestly wasn't referring anything specific. It was just an example how to justify the carrion bird idea. In case of the construct birds it could still work, just in a less natural way as in the Bonereapers sending out those birst to clean the bones in preparation of their arrival.

Ah I see! And it indeed would :)

They could still be harbingers of war just in a more natural way. Like they follow the Bonereapers around since they are a source of easy food, so whenever the Bonereapers approach a city they fly ahead in their greed to get their fill. ;)

I love that idea. It seems most the carrion stuff on the models are undead though, no?

This seems like the culmination of what we should have seen coming a while back with boxset exclusive (or exclusive for a long period of time) characters.

I hope GW realizes their success started coming back because they began to listen to the community and made awesome models that people could choose from.  Not forcing people to buy large boxsets and justify it to themselves somehow.

And yes, I know you can just choose to not  buy the box.  But why can't GW choose to be somewhat friendly to their customers.  I don't like feeling as though a company is trying to force me to purchase a specific way, and I hope GW realizes the mistake soon.

They are starting to get greedier by the month though. I think at this point they are trading customer satisfaction for raw profit. I wonder what their plan is to actually get an active flow of new customers. Because at this point it feels like they are just trying to bleed their current customer base dry.

9th Age happened because the game it supports went away.  I don't know how viable a "9th age" for AOS would be because AOS is a living game backed by a company.  Certainly an ITC could happen (and I know ITC is a thing for AOS its just not really caught on like it has for 40k) that could address some of the issues people seem to have.  But casuals don't really pay attention to tournament packets either so I don't know how useful that would be?

Funny enough, 9th age has more support in some cities near my area than AOS because of the unbalance.

The not paying attention to tournament packs is an issue almost everywhere I went a few years ago as well. Regardless, I think the problems mostly affect the people that actually trying to be competitive without buying into a completely new army though. So it may help that group in particular.

I have some "whales" in my area that are against additional rules/fixing though. Mostly people that dont mind dropping 1000+ euro each new release if its the best army and commision painting their stuff for another 2k. They seem to want to maintain their overpowered position XD.

  10. At this point, I think when it comes to Games Workshop gaming systems, perhaps the community should take it into their own hands similar to the 9th age.

We have seen similar stuff happen in other games where people create new formats where certain stuff is allowed and other stuff is not in order to create a diverse new metagame. Some of these formats end up becoming so popular that they were eventually adopted as official formats.

If the community can put together a living rule system where points are adjusted, tested and additional rules or fixes to current rules are introduced, we might have something on our hands that all people can enjoy.

Like for the summoning problem, an possible fix could be something along the lines of "Call in the reinforcements." In which an army is allowed to deploy miniatures equal or less to the points exceeded by the opponent over a certain limit. Alternatively, something along the lines of. "A change of strategy" in which an army gets extra command points for each 50 points summoned by an opponent.

One thing is power creep another and competetive tournament power. Another is just the internal balancing of the book and the options available. Even without considering any other armies or powercreep, the NH book is rather boring and lacks a lot of the element defining all the other 2.0 books, such as "stormhost" equivalents.

The book mentions all these unique flavors of ghosts. Something like the Legion of Grief should really have been in the NH book along with some other variations focusing on different aspects, so it was possible to tailor more interesting lists with specific strengths. My favourite expamples so far come from the Fyreslayers book, where they have made some really interesting twists on the standard lineup of models, like a lodge allowing a small group of heroes to fight at the same time and take more artifacts, and another giving access to more magmadroths and mount traits, now that is thoughtful design. The Flesh Eaters also have some cool options even with their limited roster.

I hope Bonereapers follows that format, I love being able to do multiple things with the same models. The sheer scope of the lineup we have seen so far at least will help with meaningful varitation from warscroll options alone, but if we get the "stormhost" stuff as well, then I will be a happy construct boy.

I agree with what you are saying. Sometimes it seems GW doesnt think stuff through as well. When idoneth deepkin were announced I loved the idea of running foot troops, but the fact the troops were too fragile and on 32mm bases made lots of my games quite one-sided. Stuff couldnt get in range of combat or would die to a breeze. Many people shared this issue it seems, hence nowadays you mainly see eel spam lists as a result.

Maybe bonereapers will have plenty of playstyles available so you won't see 1 dominant list emerge and nothing else being even close to that list. Given how GW handles rules that may not come to pass though, but until they are released one can only hope.

Here's hoping! I too made the same mistake, picked up NH as my first army last Christmas after they had a solid showing in their initial tournament appearances.  I know better now and will wait for the meta to settle to see if the rules make this army worth buying.  I love Death, but it's pretty bleak these days.  Doesn't hurt that these guys look a little less spindly too :P

    Then there's....

People in December 2019: Bonereapers best army ever. Undercosted. Unfair.

People in July 2020: Bonereapers have been powercrept. Army needs a new tome.

  13. I just hope the boxes will be reasonably priced. I am ok with the heroes being on the expensive side, but GW has a tendency of charging a ton for the battleline. Also hoping they dont pull the trick where 2 boxes can finish 1 unit due to lack of enough special weapons per box.

It's a life thing rather than a burnout thing, but it hasn't been helped by a revolting end to a relationship. And hobby got entwined in that so now I pick up my brush and look at my models and it brings up a lot of memories, which makes me really sad that it's effectively soiled my hobby.

Thats tough, I am sorry to hear so.

Its hard when random things remind you of sad(or even traumatizing) moments of the person you used to be with, what kind of helps in those situations is to try and detach the emotional label and the hobby away from eachother. Remind yourself that painting and the hobby itself is something that is shared by a large portion of people all around the world and that its not necesarily something "special" you shared with your ex.

By trying to strip away the "this was our thing" label and emotion, the hobby may seem a bit pointless at first, but you can slowly rediscover it and give it a new value for yourself.

In terms of getting over a relationship, taking at least 20 minutes a day doing absolutely nothing or going for a walk in nature and relaxing your mind will be really helpful.

The reason is that breakups are very draining on our adrenal glands. Its compareable as being in a life threatening situation ALL the time.

Adrenaline is largely required for energy pathways and also the motivation and energy to do stuff (like painting).

I think if you start giving those glands some rest every day to recover it will help a lot.

Starting a regular sleep shedule with 7 to 8 hours of sleep will help too, if you are capable of sleeping after the shock you went through.

Your body just needs to recover so your mind can be at ease.

As for your feelings, try redecorating your room. Move furnature around, perhaps even start a new army for now. Changing up your living space and environment helps a lot to detach previous feelings.

Lastly, find a place to vent out and talk out these problems, but do keep in mind friends are human, so dont overload friends too much =). Also if you ever want to talk things out, feel free to PM.

I hope these things are of any help.

Depression has hit really bad lately. Haven't done any painting, even though I made such good progress with my Arch-Warlock at the start of the month. If anyone has had a similar experience, I'd be curious to know how you powered out of it.

Are you experiencing the same in your job or other aspects of your life? Because it sounds more like you may have a burnout rather than full blown depression. Regardless, I have plenty of tips to help you break free from either without the use of medication.

Also, powering out of it may be counterproductive.

Realms do have edge, one of the early stories recounts a person walking to the edge of a realm. I think the key is that originally realms were "nearly" infinite; but since then they've reduced in size somewhat and now most are of a fixed size, but with boundaries at the far end which are a sea of turmoil of new land being formed and lost.

It's mostly a case of GW shifting from a game and lore that was essentially just to push creative new models every time they released stuff; into one with formal armies, races, factions and forces that will last a long time.

I see. Thank you for the info. That is really interresting. I like your idea of mapping out cities and landmarks. Since these realms are so huge they could let history and lore be self-contained in these cities. However thats pretty much wishlisting I suppose.

I disagree that it would be a good thing to fully flesh out any Realm. There is too much to be gained by having anything possible in the vast "unmapped" spaces that we can fill ourselves without fear of "official" contradiction. It also leaves the official background space to add anything later. The world-that-was became stale because it was too fixed and prescriptive.

Each Realm is a bigger surface than the world-that-was (and the world-that-was was bigger than Earth). The Realms are not planets - they hang within "Realm Spheres" but they are more like flat "diskworlds" than planets. They have said each Realm is as-near-as-makes-no-difference to infinite, so there won't ever be maps of a whole Realm.

Thank you for the info! I had no idea each realm was so huge. That really changes my perspective on them.

  18. About the realms topic... It would be great if they became fleshed out like the old world. I am just afraid the realms may lack history? How old are they by now?

Also wondering how big these realms really are. Is it like a whole world contained in itself? It would be cool if these things became fully shaped planets over time.
