Flames leaked from Carcarion’s teeth as he grinned. He surveyed his host as they formed ranks across the field. Ahead lay the Realm of Beasts city of Agrakk, a place ripe for the picking. The uprising had begun, Tzeench’s servants throwing off their disguises and donning their ritual battle robes. He was here to ensure success, if that was his master’s will.
His eyes narrowed. In the distance he caught the glint of gold and blue. Stormcast Eternals, here to defend the city at their own Lord’s bequest. So be it.

His eyes narrowed. In the distance he caught the glint of gold and blue. Stormcast Eternals, here to defend the city at their own Lord’s bequest. So be it.

A blast sounded from the left flank. A Heraldor emerged from the lightning strike and out his horn to his lips. Forutnately the damage was light and Carcarion waved forward the Knights who charged into the fray, cutting the lonely Stormcast down mercilessly. Their headlong charge had isolated them though, and two Fulminators eviscerated them all.

The host pushed forward, with Skyfires and Carcarion leading the way. On the left there was another mighty thunderclap and Retributors stood ready to deal out damage with their hammers and maces. Stanza, lead Shamen of the host barked an order to a unit of Skyfires. Their discs wheeled and flew towards the new threat. First they uleashed their arrows before charging in to finish the task.

The Stormcast general became the target of fire for the rest of the army, the Lord Celestant being sent back to the Heavens with his body, and that of his Dracoth, peppered with arrows and burnt by flames.
The Fulminators continued their destructive progress into the heart of the Neverending Host, trampling through a unit of Skyfires before finally being brought down my sheer weight of magic and fire. The Stormcasts, with their heart ripped out, continued to battle bravely. Carcarion ran forward unheeding of his fate, smashing Retributors and Liberators as they tried to form a line. He was sent back to the Caverns as the Judicators turned all their firepower upon him.

There was little the Stormcast defenders could do as the tide rolled over them. The city was now to be the plaything of Tzeench, until things changed.

This was the second 2000 point friendly game I have played with the Tzeench list and the second win. The Skyfires are beginning to live up to their reputation but I don’t intend to put any more in. I will take out Knights and Warriors and add more Horrors (I really enjoy the splitting and bringing in blues and brimstones) and some Enlightened to make a proper Tzeench list (with the addition of some Marauders). I will keep the former ready for more friendly game though. The harder list is in preparation for BOBO and Portsmouth Pillage in early August. Lots still to do. And there is always the issue of the new General's Handbook which could change things again.
We played the Skeins of Fate battleplan from the Tzeench book. I will keep a record of games played here.
    Played 2. Won 2.

Horrors giggled as they emerged onto the abundant landscape of the Realm of Life. Trees adorned the rolling hills and an old fort, at one with the foliage emerging from it, sat ahead of them.
Carcarion, an Ogroid Thaumaturge of impressive width, lumbered through the gate behind them. He was accompanied by a willowy Gaunt Summoner, his name known only to himself. More troops of the Neverending Host of Change filed and flew from the rippling realmgate. A chariot, complete with Gorebeast, rumbled forth with Skyfires on discs zipping through the air above it. Last to emerge, crackling with pent-up energy, came Stanza; Tzaangor Shamen and master of all his kind in the caves.
The air was vital with magical charge. Something cataclysmic was imminent and it had brought more than Tzeench’s sons to the forest. In the distance Sylvaneth warriors and KharadronOverlords could be glimpsed through the trees.
Arrows whistled into the Skyfires as the enemy moved forward, one burying itself to the hilt and whipping a Tzaangor from his floating monstrosity. Caracarion bellowed his rage and waved the host forward. The Skyfires returned fire and took down one of the Hunters in the distance. Behind them the wizards began to chant and draw upon the essence of magic that emanated from the abandoned fort.
Suddenly a comet burned through the sky and crashed into the ground on the far left of the Order battleline. Carcarion could sense the magical potential of the artefact and the Overlords could smell Aether, a Khemist in their midst.
There was little time to think. Skyhooks roared forth their vicious ordnance, splitting the Skyfires in two or smashing them to the ground. Soon only the Aviarch stood proud.
Another comet crashed to the surface in a welter of charred wood. It narrowly missed the fort and the Horrors raced to claim it. Things were looking grim for the host though as the chariot charged forward, only to be thrown off course as wildwoods burst from the ground around it.
All was not lost. The Gaunt Summoner chanted passages from his book and flames erupted amongst the Arknonauts ahead of him, half of their number succumbing to the heat which found every ******. Carcarion’s own flaming staff engulfed another company, reducing its numbers dramatically.
Reality folded and blinked and suddenly there were two more Skyfires hovering besides their Aviarch. They poured their fire into the Hunters stationed near the comet and charged forward to engage them while Stanza flew into the Arkhonauts in front of them.
All was not won. The Arkhonauts pushed forward through the receding fires and levelled their weapons, the Khemist roaring them on. They first destroyed the Gaunt Summoner, his form returned to the Realm of Chaos, before sending the Horrors back from whence they came. Carcarion stood firm, casting a coruscating spell to increase his might. He first destroyed the Dryads facing him and then finished a unit of Arkhonautsclose behind with the aid of Stanza. Then he turned his attention to plundering the comet for its secrets. The Skyfireswere doing the same as they spent their lives finally finishing the Hunters. Stanza flew across and took the enemy’s comet for himself.
Laden with new knowledge and the spoils of war the Tzeenchian heroes returned to the Cavern of Eternal Rebirth to oversee the regrowth of their companions. They left behind a landscape littered with the dead and barely a soul alive.
This was the first outing for my Tzeenchian force. It was supposed to be doubles but my partner could not make the game. I just happened to have six Skyfires and a TzaangorShamen in my box which created another 500 points to play against James’ Kharadron and Sean’s Sylvaneth. It was a very relaxed affair with all of us learning our warscrolls and Sean having his first game of AOS.
We played the ‘Gift From the Heavens’ battleplan from the General’s Handbook. I was impressed with the power of the Arkhonauts’ skyhooks and the Gaunt Summoner’s spell on a horde. The ability to fold reality with my Skyfires probably won me the game. A fun matchup, it is always entertaining to play when everyone is starting out with new armies.
Hobby wise my Horrors are done for the moment and will be revisited in the future. Next jobs will be to finish Carcarion, the Ogroid, and put base colours and shade on the chariot. This will more likely be a unit used as a painting project and for relaxed games because it is a bit disappointing in combat due to lack of rend. Having said that it did hold up a unit of Arkhonauts for two vital turns.

Deep within the Whispering Shadow Mountains lies the Cavern of Eternal Rebirth. It's secrets hide far from the prying eyes of beings great or small and, from crystalline depths, hordes pour forth through realmgates to spread chaos across the worlds.    Not only mortals threaten all they encounter. The curtain that holds back the Realm of Chaos is thin here, perhaps thinner than any other place. Daemons of types innumerable join the ranks of the five Gods they serve, spreading their joyous bile, change, blood, treachery and pleasure.    The floor of the cavern lies close to the magma that sits beneath, intolerable heat seeping up to bathe its denizens. They themselves, of all Gods and none, share one common trait. Their skin is as red as the lava below.   Constant war takes place between the factions of the orders of chaos. The floor is strewn with their broken trophies from rivals and sallies into the mortal realms. But perhaps the darkest secret of the cavern is that every time a warrior or daemon meets its demise, another will grow from the deepest recesses of the magma pools. Is this the very foundation of chaos itself?   This is the foundation of my project that will probably take several years to come to fruition; if indeed it ever does. Each set of servants of the chaos Gods will have a section of the cavern that will take up a two by two tile. The idea is to create an entire gaming board with armies to match. Each part will reflect the nature of the God they worship.    My starting point is to use a Slaves to Darkness force that can fit into any of the separate forces, hence the unifying red skin and armour developed from the stuff of the cavern itself. It will begin by joining with a Tzeench force being developed for the summer campaign at my club, the Pompey Pirates. First step 500 points.   A massive undertaking which will probably, in honour of Tzeench, change as I go along. But who wants to think small and besides, I will end up with several armies to play games with. The new skirmish system I have heard about will be my friend with this too, with small bands roving the depths and issuing forth.   Paul   Twitter @ugluk1974   Neverending Horrors pour forth....
