Archregent Pontiff Fodderbite and Akhelian King Valentournos had both discovered the location of the Relocation Orb and both new they must be the one to recover it and harness its arcane energy as they strove to march upon the Grand Stormvault. Neither commander knew of the others plans nor did they know that soon they would come face to face on the battlefield.
The armies met with the Blisterskin Court making the first move. A Royal Terrorgheist worried the left flank, shrieking at the Allopex, whilst a large unit of rabid Flayers charged headlong in to the Idoneth battleline. The Aelves stood strong as two of their number fell to the Flesh Eaters Death Scream. In the centre the Horrors failed to keep up with their winged brethren and instead took control of the Orb. The Royal Terrogheist turned its attentions to the Tidecaster who had taken cover in the Warscryer Citadel, it smashed in to the building tearing through the walls and swallowed the Aelven wizard whole. The Namarti Thralls are dauntless as they brave the Flayers and manage to take two down, their courage is short lived as they all die as the undead reply.
The Aspect of the Sea unleashes a Purple Sun, exploiting the extra eldritch power derived from the Realm of Death. It destroyed a Flayer before decimating the Terrorgheist, leaving it close to death. Another Flayer was killed by the Leviadon’s harpoons but the Deepkins greatest victory came as the second unit of Thralls slayed the Crypt Infernal Courtier, leaving the rest of the Flayers stranded with no hope of return.
The Orb relocated further in to Flesh Eater territory but before the Terrorgheist could take advantage of its vast reach, the Purple Sun chased it down and took it down for good. Archregent Fodderbite reacts by casting Lauchon the Soul Seeker and a unit of Ghouls ride his ethereal vessel to claim the Orb once again. Lauchon claims one of their number as payment!! Fodderbite continues to use his realmstone wand and powers up the Abhorrent Ghoul King riding a Royal Terrorgheist, who then procedes to charge in to the Eidolon, Leviadon and Allopex. Back in the centre, the last of the Thralls are charged by Ghouls and Horrors and its clear these Aelves will never find the souls they need to extend their wretched lives. The Ghoul King orders his mount to take out the Aspect of the Sea first and he easily dispatches it with the power of its fanged maw, the Allopex also dies in the exchange. The remaining Thralls take a last stand and manage to damage the Terrogheist, although a miraculous Deathless Courtiers roll kept the ghouls in the fight.
The beginning of the end for the Idoneth was prompted by one moment where the Leviadon was unable to finish off the Terrogheist and was then killed by its Fanged Maw. As the Orb moved once again to the Undead’s advantage, the Purple Sun followed drawn by its power. The Archregent continues to produce his prestidigitations and the Realmstone wand’s influence increases. The Blisterskin run for the Orb en masse avoiding Valentournos and his Akhelian Guard who have arrived from the Aether sea on the right flank. Despite it being high tide the King and his Fangmora riding companions are unpositione dto take full advantage and instead only take out the disposable ghouls that Fodderbite had placed in their way.
As the Orb moves once again and it’s apparent that there’s no way for the Aelves to retrieve it, Valentournos charges in to Fodderbite as the Eels charge down the Crypt Horrors. All the Horrors are destroyed and Fodderbite yields to the Akhelian King but this is not a victory for the Deepkin as the Orb is in the possession of the Crypt Flayers summoned by Fodderbite to retrieve the magical artefact and ensure its safe passage to Castle Drachmir…..

The Underguts Mawtribe passed through the Gate of Whispers, entering Stygxx on the behest of the Flesh-eater Courts. Charged with raiding the Stormvault discovered at the Hookfort, Slaughtermaster Bufolg Bloodbelch led his Ogors from the realmgate situated on the Coast of Loss and headed inland to see what treasures awaited them… Vandus Hammerhand himself, along with a retinue of the Hammers of Sigmar had received word of the incoming Gluttonous nomads and were guarding the Stormvault as the Ogors approached. The Lord Arcanum and Knight-Incantor failed to harness the magical energy that runs amok since Nagash’s Necroquake and the Stormcast gunline didn’t fare much betterm killing only one Iron gut. A unit of Sequitors dropped in the from the Celestial realm to take an objective but lost their heads, charging some Ironguts and Mournfang – only to be completely destroyed in the process. In return the Ironblaster nearly killed Vandus with a precise shot as the Ogor horde hungrily marched forward. The second round saw Sigmar’s finest fare much better and as the Lord healed the Celestant General, The Incantor’s spellcasting was also successful as he brought the Everblaze Comet down hard on the Underguts. More Stormcasts appeared from the Celestial realm as the Retributors and Evocators both dropped behind enemy lines, unfortunately neither unit was able to make a charge. The shooting fared better too as more Ogors began to fall to the lightning bolts of the Stormcast. The Ogor shooting was not nearly as productive as the Leadbelchers failed to make a dent in the golden armour of Sigmar’s first host. The Ogors on the frontline made several charges with the most important battle taking place in the centre as the large Irongut unit decimated the Fulminators. On return the Evocators very nearly killed the Beastriders on Thundertusk but they held on by a wound. This combat phase also saw the highlight of the battle for the Hammers of Sigmar as some Mournfangs took out a unit of Liberators only to see them reappear on the otherside of the battlefield, right on top of an objective. Unfortunately for Sigmar’s men it was to be of little consequence as the third battle round proved decisive for the Undergut tribe. It started with Vandus hammerhand and his Lord Arcanum countercharging the Ironguts and decimating them. The Incantor’s Celestian Vortex and some headshots from the Vanguard-Raptors saw more of the Ogors fall. In the Ogors rearguard the Retributors all die after some miserable rolls, the Evocators however are more successful as they finally take down the thundertusk. With both sides vastly reduced it is the central fight that decides the battle, starting with the Ironblaster finally getting the better of Vandus Hammerhand. The Legendary Lord-Celestant goes down and it’s the beginning of the end for the Hammers of Sigmar. Some Mournfangs join the fray and take out the Lord Arcanum. With barely any Stormcast left on the battlefield to stop them, the Ogors are able to take a primary objective and seal the victory.

Roused by the news of Gordrakk’s breaching of Thunderstone Reach and his recovery of the skull of Hammergord, the savage Orruks of Styggx ventured forth from the caverns of Grotskull Mines and joined the Big Waaagh. Led by a Wurrgog Prophet the small Bonespliiterz force stumbled upon a court of Flesh Eaters. With a vanguard of boarboyz leading the charge, the orruks advanced in to undead territory.   It ended badly for the boarboyz, out of position and cut off from the majority of the green tide, they were powerless against the Royal Terrogheist and its commanding Ghoul King. Supported by a retinue of Crypt Horrors, the Blisterskin king made light work of the Orruks before next descending on the large unit of savage greenskins. This time it was the undead who came off second best as behind the Orruks emerged an equally large unit of arrowboys who duly laid waste to the Terrorgheist with a barrage of arrows.   Stirred by the slaying of a monster, the Savage Big Boss confronted a unit of Flayers and took down one of their number. However, it was too little to turn the tide and the Prophet deemed the battle lost. He had got what he had came for, making a hasty retreat he was already concocting his next scheme for his Warclan….

After the Khorne Daemons had stolen the Hexwraith Pendant from their vault underneath Castle Drachmir, the Blisterskin Court were seeking revenge. Pontiff Fodderbite led his cohort to the Howling Plains, eventually engaging their quarry in the graveyards of Haggrath Plight. Slaughterpriest Karsus stood in the Arcanoscope of the Citadel and looked down on the advancing undead. He ushered a minion to send word to his Daemon Prince, Tarak Skorl would need to summon his Bloodletters if they were to stem the savage force descending upon them. Riding his Royal Terrorgheist, the Ghoul King charged the citadel – sensing the pendants presence within. A unit of Blood Reavers guarded the entrance but many of their number fled after hearing the giant Gheist’s death shriek. The mortals fear was compounded as Fodderbite summoned his faithful knights to his side and three ravenous Flayers flanked the Chaos bloodbound. Unfortunately for the Flesh Eaters, the king was unable to penetrate the Citadels defences and the Priest remained resolute within the battlements. As the countless Bloodletters ran the right flank, Tarak Skorl counter-charged his opposite general and was able to take him out of the battle. In Daemonic tongue he informed Karsus that if they could just hold out a little longer then Khorne would reward their tithe of skulls with a Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury. Skorl then flew in to the Wyldwood to seize an objective from a small band of ghouls, who were no match for a Daemon Prince of Khorne. In the centre a large unit of Crypt Horrors destroyed some Bloodletters as the Death army tried to turn the tide of battle. The Blisterskin heroes descened upon the Wyldwood and outnumbered the Chaos general to regain the prized location. In the Citadel the Slaughterpriest finally succumbed to the Flayers attacks and another Chaos stronghold fell to the Flesh Eaters. The cannibalistic mob was overrunning the grave site as daemons were returned to their chaotic dimension and the battle appeared to be won. Then a guttural roar resounded from the Skull Alter and through the fabric of time appeared the Greater Daemon. It destroyed the Flayers holding the left most objective and without their king to lead the Court knew the battle was lost. Khorne had been true to his word and victory was his…

    Forbidden Power -Battle Three
The Aelves had heard that following his victory at Castle Drachmir, The Daemon Prince Tarak Skorl was now marching through the Howling plains. So riding the whirlway of Haedrann Kar, the Deepkin headed for the Tower of Amnis Tol, Valentornous and his Idoneth cohort arrived at the Stormcast outpost just in time to see the impending red tide….
SoulScryer Lakhimmon the Voidtouched, suggested they split their force and the mounted Akhelians remained with him in the aether sea – whilst the Eidolon led the Namarti to help the Sigmar’s lightning men defend the Warscryer Citadel. Skorl and his Ripped Tongue regiment descened upon the tower, with the Bloodcrushers racing down the right flank. They were the first to find battle as they smashed through a troop of Liberators who were decimated before being able to lift their hammers in anger.
The Eidolon replied by casting several spells using the newly found realmstone wand artefact, including Quicksilver swords which headed for the nearest unit of Bloodletters. At the same time the thralls braced themselves for the oncoming Crushers.
Lakhimmon navigated the aether sea as he sensed it was time for the Akhelian king and his attendant princes to enter the battle. Arriving behind the enemy, they lay in wait to decide where to hit first. Skorl and Karanak halted their advance and the Bloodletters also stayed with them as they anticipated the high tide.
Valentornous on his Deepmare, along with the Fangmora eels, surged forward in a ruthless tsunami that took down the Daemon general, his hell hound lieutenant, the Slaughterpriest Karsus of the Brass Axe as well as severely depleting a unit of Bloodletters.
The Blades of Khorne retaliated in anger but were reckless as they were still riding the crest of the Deepkin wave. Although the eels began to fall quickly so too did the Bloodcrushers, slain by the Namarti who were bolstered by the presence of the Eidolon.
The tide subsided and many skulls had been added to the tithe, the Skulltaker took this chance to summon a large unit of Bloodletters and commanded them to advance on the final objective. Fortunately for the aelves a unit of Thralls were able to take out the majority of the daemons, losing only three in return. As Valentornous and Lakhimmon both fell the tithe rose further and 5 flesh hounds emerged from the Skull Altar and flanked the thralls at the objective. Again fortune favoured the Idoneth and the Narmati stood strong with their superior numbers deciding the extremely close battle.

Naquas Barionic, Mistress of Shoals, had reached out to Sigmar and Morathi for aid in her battle to stem the cannabilistic tide of the Blisterskin Court that was currently rampaging towards the newly discovered Stormvault. Word had reached the Idoneth Tidecaster that powerful artefacts had been locked inside and the arrival of Stormcast and Khinerai reinforcements gave her belief that it would be the Ionrach enclave who recovered them.
The Flesh Eaters started by securing their leaders as they anticipated that the attack could come from any direction. They weren’t wrong as the Heartrenders dropped from the sky and loosed their barbed javelins towards the Crypt Infernal, however they failed to do any significant damage. The first battle round ended with the Idoneth taking an early advantage.
Turn two saw the SoulScryer and two units of Fangmora eels deep strike in to the Blisterskin flank, although some pitiful charges and attacks saw the Crypt Horrors stand strong. The Fulminators fared better, cutting the Flayers unit in half. Despite an early high tide the Aelves failed to take advantage and the Khinerai again failed in their mission to kill the Flayer hero.
In their turn the Death horde were able to summon back to their full compliment and their decimation of the Order forces began. The Terrorgheist flew atop the Azyrite ruins before descending down on the SoulScryer who was quickly devoured by a boney gaping maw. The round also saw the death of the Fulminators, a unit of Heartrenders and the eels destroyed to a single Lochian Prince.
Although their numbers were dwindling the Deepkin went in to the third round with double the victory points of the Blisterskin. The Flesh Eaters took the initiative and more Aelves perished as the Death force remained at full strength. The only chance that Naquas had was to outmanoeuvre the enemy and she made a daring dash to take the central objective. Her bravery paid off as her selfless act secured an Aelven victory and the Flesh Eater Courts were kept from entering the Stormvault.
To Naquas Barionic it felt like a hollow victory as she returned alone to the aethersea, gripping the Realmstone Wand she had recovered whilst fleeing the battlefield.

On the shore of Dead Man’s Folly, in the region of Stygxx, stands Castle Drachmir. Once a bastion of light, this citadel has been claimed by flesh-eating ghouls.
Few would dare to venture there but Khorne Daemon Prince, Tarak Skorl of the Ripped Tongue, fears not the undead and leads his slaughterhost through the Bitterblood Caverns to
the castles battlements. Hoping to breach the fortress and claim the magical artefacts rumoured to be within it’s ancient vault.
Pontiff Fleckbury Fodderbite, the Blisterskin Archregent stepped down from his Charnel throne to see if the reports were true. He looked beyond the ruins of the shattered temple to see the Chaos spearhead advancing, hurriedly summoning his faithful Knights who headed for the cover of the Wyldwood. The Flesh-Eater was quickly joined by even more Flayers and a ravening horde of ghouls.
The Khorne spearhead was led by Karanak himself and he and his Bloodletters headed for the objective whilst also looking out for the infernal hero he’d vowed to destroy as his quarry. This lead to an early lead for the Chaos contingent.
The primary objective stayed the same for the second battle round which enabled the Chaos army to extend their lead. However the unit of 6 Flayers destroyed the spearhead Bloodletters, although a larger unit appeared in the main body. This gave the Undead a couple of victory points to keep them in the battle at the half way point.
Tarak Skorl appeared in the rearguard and the Daemon Prince gained initiative enabling the Bloodletters and himself to charge the Flayers and hopefully avenge the two units that had already been destroyed. This proved to be the turning point in the battle as all 6 Flayers were killed with no way for them to be resurrected.
With the objective still not moving the Chaos’s armies lead was unassailable and Skorl left victorious holding a Hexflame pendant in his hand.

The Soul Wars started with a surprise attack by the Nighthaunt on a gathering of Order dignitaries who were meeting with the mysterious Idoneth Deepkin. Zeraphina Heldensdotter, Knight-Incantor of the Hammers of Sigmar and Bael-Grimnir, Runefather of the Vorstarg lodge were had been granted an audience with Valenturnous, Akhelian King of the Ionrach enclave with the intention of discussing the recent emergence of the sea elves and their part in the Necroquake.
It was then that Lady Olynder, Nagash's latest Mortarch, surprised the gathering as they attacked from within the seemingly unbreachable fortress walls. Although they took many losses, including the Duardin Runefather, the forces of Order managed to hold their ground and eventually the undead had to make their retreat. The battle ended in a stalemate but the Soul Wars had just begun.

We decided to play the variant of the ritual battleplan that was played out a couple of times in White Dwarf this year, where the Aelves are stealing souls from one of Nagash’s Soul Siphon’s. Unfortunately I don’t have a game board like the one they used at Warhammer World so instead I used the ‘chained stones’ objective thing from the recent objectives set and placed it on top of a hill.
The IDK started and the Leviadon headed for the centre of the board with the Soulscryer and 2 Tidecasters using him as cover. With the potential threat of units that had been set up in reserve popping up behind the Aelven battle lines, Volturnous and a unit of 6 Morsarr stayed behind. On the right flank a unit of 30 thralls and an Allopex advanced towards the opposing black coach.
Nighhaunt began their turn by casting the Purple Sun and Quicksilver Swords and they headed down the centre of the battlefield. Lady Olynder and the chainrasp entered the fray and the ghostly horde descended upon the Idoneth.
The ethereals decided to go first in battle round 2 and had to endure the Purple Sun crashing in to the Chainrasp horde who were locked in combat with some Namarti  Reavers after a very lucky charge roll. This didn’t prevent the Aelves being wiped out in the preceding combat though. Olynder, Reiknor and the Black Coach went out wide to the left and after magic and yet another high charge roll easily wiped out the Shark.
In their turn the Aelves responded with charges of their own despite it being so close to high tide. The Morsarr demolished the chainrasp whilst on the other flank the Thralls formed a meat shield for the soulscryer who was about to start his ritual. Magic had seen the unbinding of the dreaded Purple Sun as well as the death of the final Glaivewraith who had dared to charge the Leviadon. This left the giant turtle open to charge in to a tomb banshee and form another barrier to allow the ritual to take place.
The Aelves won initiative in round 3 and opted to go first, everywhere the quicksilver swords went the emerald lifeswarm followed ensuring the Soulscryers’ safety. The ritual began and immediately 7 souls were stolen. The ensuing combat saw the Idoneth go first and again do a lot of damage as several units were wiped out.
Another 7 souls were stolen at the beginning of the Nighthaunt’s turn and things were looking bleak for them as they had been decimated. However there was still hope on the left flank where Olynder, the Grimhailer and a black coach were still lurking – plus a gap had opened up where the Thralls had been gradually whittled away. It was now or never as the Black Coach hurtled towards the exposed Scryer. Yet again a 10 was rolled and this meant he could fight in the charge phase where a double 6 saw him defeat the Aelven priest and win the game.

Three friends and I played a 2V2 8k mega battle which pitted Stormcast & Legions of Nagash against Khorne & BCR
We played for 9 hours, managing to get in 3 battle rounds with Chaos/Destruction  winning 8-5 on victory points. Although we also worked out who had killed more and the Order/Death alliance won that one.
It was great to get so much on to the table but one regret is not using the gathering of might rules for melee as it ended up with the 'cannon fodder' lasting too long and the big names like Nagash and Archaon not getting in to the fight.

Battle report for the last battleplan in the AOS starter box, Death Knell.
The Hammers of Sigmar have added a Stardrake to their ranks whilst the Goretide now incorporate a Daemons starter box.
The battle began with the Stormcast moving towards the Goretide battleline, the chaos visibly trembled as the Stardrake leered at them from over the treetops. Despite the battleplan victory conditions requiring the death of the general for victory, Vandus’ Hammerhand led the line on his Dracoth Chalanax. The Stardrake was in range for Rain of Stars so drew first blood.

The Chaos responded with equal enthusiasm to get to battle and with Khorgus Khul’s command ability, sped towards the Celestial host. A group of Chaos heroes charged the Stardrake, led by a Korgoroth and dealt it some damage with the Slaughterpriest’s blood prayers.Whilst the Blood Reavers headed for a unit of Liberators.

In combat the Stardrake inflicted minimal damage to the Korgoroth but managed to decimate the Reavers with teeth and tail – however, Portal of Skulls allowed them to stay in the battle.

The next round saw a charge from the second unit of liberators as they sought the Bloodletters. On the right flank the Relictor and Retributors headed for the rest of the Chaos Daemons. Vandus Hammerhand, wielding his axe Heldensen, charged the remaining Reavers. In return the Blood Warriors and their General headed for Vandus and the Bloodthrone and ‘Crushers stampeded into the Retributors.

The Liberators made a grave error in not attacking first and they were wiped out entirely by the daemonic hellblades. The Korgoroth and Reavers were also destroyed as the blood began to flow.

A combined Chaos charge at the Stardrake, coupled with Blood boil saw the Stardrake go down in round 3 and the Stormcast looked doomed. The Retributors attempted to take the right flank and prevent the Daemon battlehost assaulting their general. It was at this point that thunder struck and three prosecutors descended from the heavens.

Both Generals were injured and the battle hang in the balance, victory would go to the side that acted fastest. That side was the Stormcast, The Prosecutors charged the rear of the Mighty Lord of Khorne but it was Vandus himself who struck the fateful blow.

This was our first large battle (approx. 1500 pts.) and it couldn’t have been more intense as it went right down to the wire. I was in control of the Stormcast Eternal whilst the Chaos were split in to Mortal and Daemons and commanded respectively by Dan C and Marc. Though they lost they were pleased to take out the Stardrake who initially seemed like it would be able to destroy the Goretide by itself.
