  1. I'm sure our vamps will be a lot stronger. Just compare a 140 point vampire lord on a horse to the 150 point vanari lord regent for lumineth, similar points, both a lord on a 'horse', vanari is better in combat, more wounds, better save, more spells to choose from and arguably better spells and better abilities, all for 10 points more.

I feel like it would be strange for a vampire lord to NOT be on par with that type of lord, if not even better.

Vampires have to be 6 wounds minimum, with a better save and better healing. They shouldn't be just as easy to kill as a human on foot.

I just really hope they haven't neglected them and left them as is due to the fact we are getting 10203022 new characters. (Not complaining, I actually love the new characters).

Edit: also bare in mind we are getting a new wight King, who will no doubt be much better than before, meaning (particularly if they keep mount option) vampires will be stronger too.

but hey have just one neck.

Also, how this creature is suppose to move? Can it fly? if so, what happen to the upper torso? just flipping around?

Do it walk? can't imagine this creature walking in their nuckles or palms without being pricked by their own "wings".

Maybe if the designer just make the lower torso to be some armour as well it may not look like two differents models just glued together.

Yeah it's different to normal Centaurs, because it isn't technically a centaur. It's It's amalgamation of two monstrosities. It's not to everyone's taste and so what? Not everyone has to buy it. I personally love it (the female one, really not a fan of the male generic one)... but even so, just because horses have a different anatomy to the dragon thing or the giant model you posted doesn't make it any less weird when you think about half a human growing out of a horses neck.

Also that giant/vampire you posted still has just one neck, no different to a normal centaur or the new bat/dragon/vamp thing. A 'human' torso growing out of where a neck would usually be, whether it is on the giant you posted, the dragon thing that we have for soulblight, or a classic centaur. All those creatures are a 'human' or at least near-human body, from the waist up, growing out of where the neck would have been for the other animal.

To me the concept isnt bad.

But have been designed as two diferent units and then glued together and not designed as a single model seems to me.

The first to me that makes him ugly are the shoulders of th monster, every centaur havent shoulders,so seems the torso is a extension of the monster torso. Bu this mini with the shoulders of the monster seems only a torso in place of the head

Centaurs are half man half horse, every centaur has shoulders, then the 'man' section is where the horses head and neck would be. Literally every centaur has two 'torsos'.

I've been looking at the new mother of nightmare model, but I think she's not quite as big as some seem to think. That looks like a 60mm base at most. They cleverly hid the base and put it up higher, but when you compare her base with the 40mm base and 25mm bases in front of her, there's no way that's she's on a 100mm base.

Just a small thing I noticed... This isn't going to be a mortarch sized character, let alone a Nagash sized one.

Yea definitely not THAT big, she's definitely an oddly large vampire attached to the centaur thing though... the vampire lord in the foreground is closer to the camera and still her upper torso/head appears quite small compared to the mother of nightmares who is further from the camera, so should also appear smaller.

Imo definitely not mortarch sized but quite big, like a demon prince or slightly larger/taller.

Excuse me, everyone! I clearly specified that this thread is for

    Not disappointment and grumbling! ;)

Anyway, for me, the new Soulblight range is an overall hit.

I think the update is a good size, with 12 new kits. Of those, 5 are regular units, 6 are small to medium characters and one is a centerpiece. Which I think is a fair ratio: It's not like we could have got an updated Grave Guard unit if they had left out Kritza or whatever. They do a bunch of small heroes because they are quicker and easier to produce and give a faction a lot of character.

I see some people disappointed with the number of resculpts of old units. I get the desire to want something new, but we should really be more appreciative of these updated sculpts. They are about the rarest type of release GW does, and in the case of Legions of Nagash they were about the most needed. LoN went from a range of bad, old plastic kits and lots of finecast to a full, modern plastic range (except maybe Grave Guard). That is an investment into the future of this faction. It means the more grounded skeleton, zombie and bat aesthetic is sticking around. No one can argue about Soulblight that they are a soup faction for old models left on life support, like they did with LoN.

As for the Cursed City guys: Even though it's sad that they very likely won't see much play, GW made the right decision with them if they are not planning to release the models separately. Imagine if, like, Gorslav or whatever became a competitive staple. You can't have such a unit be locked away behind a €150 box set in a bundle with fifty other models. That goes double if you are not even selling that box anymore.

    ---

Here are some of my hits and misses for those who care:

    Hits:

    • Lauka Vai

In my opinion, this is the perfect way to do a monstrous vampire centerpiece.

    • The Vyrkos

I really, really love all the weirdo vampire characters from the Vyrkos bloodline. If fielding Kritza, Annika and Belladamma Volga together is in any way viable, I am doing it.

    • The new critters

Even though I have an LoN army, I previously thought all the different bats and wolves looked bad. Now they are some of my favourite units and I am strongly considering focussing on them for my list.

    Misses:

    • No support real for Deadwalkers

It's great that Zombies got a new sculpt and now don't look embarrassingly bad anymore. But it's sad that the hope we all had when we saw Gorslav of a Zombie specific support hero did not pan out. We will have to see if Zombies become mechanically viable this time around. In LoN, they did not have a niche at all.

    • No endless spells

Vampires in Warhammer were always pretty magically adept. So I would have liked to see them get faction-specific endless spells. I really thought a bat swarm endless spell would have been a no-brainer after Bat Swarms are apparently not a unit in the new book anymore. Faction terrain also falls into this category, somewhat, but since I have not seen any real inspired suggestions for what Gravelords faction terrain should be, I am less sad about it.

    • No regular vampire troops

I really thought we would get some kind of vampire infantry. Maybe the quick shock troops like the Bloodborn from Cursed City or the winged vampire from the Crimson Court warband. Or maybe heavily armoured elite knights. Instead, it seems like GW went with the established direction that all vampires are super huge mega chad leaders, which is not bad either, but I think some kind of lesser vampire unit would still have been welcome. Vargheists exist I guess.

    ---

Personally, I know I am getting some of the new models. I am still waiting to see the rules to fully commit, but I am entertaining two possible lists: Highly elite knightly vampires with Lauka Vai, Blood Knights and VLoZD, or full creatures of the night with as many Vyrkos as I can fit, Dire Wolves and Fell Bats.

This sums it up for me too. One thing I really really love is how wolf based the vyrkos are, I've always loved wolves and wolf miniatures and now we can run a full army of vampire and undead wolves. The granpire riding the wolf is just amazing imo. Favourite of the new models by far.

Edit: on the subject of endless spells, does anyone else have an incling that maybe we will get a similar treatment to seraphon? Maybe special control over the shyish endless spells?

So I just started to think abut this, but it is very possibly that warscroll for the Terrorghiest and Zombie Dragon do not change because they are also in the FeC army. Although someone could just make the argument that FeC will indirectly receive a buff by Gravelords updating Terrorghiests and Zombie Dragons. But I'm going to be pissed if our Zombie Dragons do not get a slight buff. Also there better be mount traits in the Gravelords book.

Terrorg and zomb dragon both got updated with FEC and and the legions FAQ said to replace the ones in the book with the new FEC ones. I'd assume that will happen here, but I'd also assume we don't get the zombie dragon (other than the one mounted by a vampire), as was the case previously.

If that is the case, the terrorgheist really doesn't need any changes, it's great already and will benefit from our abilities.

    Let's call a spade a spade.

5/12 - almost half of our new releases are named characters. Does anyone here actually like running multiple named characters in their lists?

The rest of our releases are resculpts. Which is great and all, however only the fell bats and zombies were screaming for a resculpt, the rest were ok for now. I like the new models, they're pretty but I feel like they could have planned the release better.

That doesn't mean that we're a bad faction! Our 2012 release was so good that we have plenty of flavourful, gorgeous models to fall back on. However, that doesn't make this release amazing. It's simply ok, it's alright.

@warhammernerd - it's really tiring when people try to shut down honest and genuine critique. Games Workshop doesn't produce pure gold all the time, some of their releases are better than others, it's ok for other people to think that this release is one of the lackluster ones.

I am still HYPED for the faction, I can't wait to run my surrealist, bat inspired vampire force. But that doesn't mean that I don't see flaws with their release.

I'd argue we needed blood knights and a non-failcast vampire lord more than zombies, but to be fair I'd have been happy with just updated rules and a couple of resculpts. Maybe I'm too easy to please lol

  8. I'd be surprised if the bloodborn from cursed city don't get added and points added in to SB, they are literally on one of our new characters' model (radukar). Moreover we have the vyrkos dynasty confirmed and expanded, why not include the vyrkos blood born?

Either way, we have tons of new updated sculpts and new models, it's amazing.

Can't wait to see the rules! For those who don't like the vampire/dragon/bat thing characters, super good size for a vamp on abyssal terror conversion/stand-in, which is what I'll be doing for the generic version ad he's the only new model I'm not that keen on.

I dunno maybe I've just learned over the years to keep expectations I check and I was super excited just for new rules and a new lord or two, but I'm super happy with our release.

I allowed myself the luxury of getting hyped - my bad. I'm happy for everybody who is satisfied by the release to day - I'm not.

A lot of reskins of models we already have, if we can believe the leak, there will be harsh changes to zombies and skeletons - for good and for bad.

But when it comes to new models, boy I' disappointed. After the crimson court, after the new blood knights, after the new vampire lord I was hoping for something more classic regarding todays reveal. But here we are, having a sh!tload of named models nobody will play and and this "thing" I don't know how to feel about (dragon-vampire-snake-bat-idk).

Radukar the beast is ok, but not my taste, the ol' lady is cool, I also like both share the esthetic with the dire wolves and the 3 wild vampire guys from cursed city. Which leads me to the next downer, they are seriously forcing you to take the whole crew of vilians to the party - what nonsense! I have no words for that. How cool would if have been, to field radukar the beast, with the old lady, a vargskyr and some lesser, feral vampires and dire wolves as BL options? yeah, no, not today honey.

No fleshed out, vampire knight army with a nobel thrist for blood, which is the absolut worse setback for me. No new VL on ZD, no vampire elite guard/footmen/whatever and no mention of Neferata or Manfred.

So no changes at all. U still have to field hords or a kind of a patchwork of bloodknights, crypt flyers and heroes. A big miss here by GW, I hope the battletome makes things clearer, but by now, I'm disappointed af...

Remember we already have a great model for VLOZD, alongside new vampire models and the old ones, vampire infantry with the bloodborn alongside all our current range with updated rules, I'm super hyped. I wasn't expecting an updated VLOZD considering it's so new in comparison to so many other units, in addition to being a big multi kit - ghoul king, terrorgheist, GKOT, GKOZD, vhordrai, VLOZD...

I was full on expecting a skaven release, one or two new models with just a bunch of rules.

I'm super happy. Hope you can enjoy what we get too.

  10. I was convinced the mother of sorrows was a kitbash, but the more I look at it, the more I think it's a new model. Not too keen on the hybrid/centaur style thing and the bat wings being used like a walruses flippers but it's impossible to tell from the blurry pic, I could fall in love when seeing good quality.

I also think one of the unsolved rumour pics could be her 'bat/wolf/centaur' feet. The one with the animal foot perched on some kind of scenery? Anyone got that?

Following from the rumour thread discussion, @Il Maestro looked at the Azyr app, which has a Soulblight section now,  and the other section for units had both bat swarms and vargheists. I looked into it myself and in the battleline we have Vargheists and Blood knights! The coven throne, palanquin and both vamp mortarchs were in the leader section as well.

Possible confirmations? Or just GW's left tech hand not knowing what the right rules hand is doing?

That's just soulblight as it's always been.

Edit: didn't realise you meant in the army builder bit, thought you just meant when searching for warscrolls... but current soulblight have blood knights and vargheists as battle line, the two mortarchs, vampire lords etc. Etc. Anything with the keyword *soulblight*.

I am still thinking sometime in May, I know there are some individuals that are saying since Be'lakor is next weekend and no new Gravelords info, that means Gravelords is after 3.0 this summer. However, it is still very possible that on this upcoming Sunday they announce that Saturday April 24 is the next big online preview. After all the previous big previews were Jan 23, Feb 20 & March 20. If that was the case, then they could preview the rest of the Gravelords line and then announce preorder for May 1.

    All speculation though.

I agree, BR: Belakor was announced quite a while ago(?) And then disappeared until the preorder announcement last weekend. No reason Soulblight couldn't go the same way.

Do we think there will be faction terrain and endless spells?

I'm betting actual pieces for gravesites.

I'd be surprised if we don't get spells. Could be a very cool way to work in a rule a little bit like the soul-linked bonereaper ones.

Terrain I'm not sure, we may not see grave sites at all.

I'm also beginning to wonder whether we will get a lumineth release where 20% of the army is released with a special edition tome and then a year later the majority gets released with the real tome.

    Endless spell rules state:

    I bolded the important part.
Arachnacauldron rules (I'm assuming the others are worded the same)

Since we are using the caster's warscroll and the endless spell's rules, and the two are treated as a single model using the caster's warscroll the caster can still move, because they don't gain the Endless Spell keyword.

    Here's your answer.

This weekend is gonna be exciting, looking forward to what people say about the warscrolls in the box. That of course assumes people are getting this ahead of time to review/have a look at of course.

I'm honestly so excited. Like the most excited I've ever been for AoS! Got an E-voucher waiting on the GW website to get the soulblight tome as soon as its released, checking on here and the community and reddit pages multiple times every day for any news and rumours.... its crazy how hyped I am aha

That Blood Knight art is phenomenal. It's pieces like that that got me hooked into Warhammer in the first place. Absolutely stunning, it just captures everything.

I also love the Green Fel eyes of the horses. I think I'll definitely be doing that too, although I may paint the skulls as the same as the armour  rather than as actual skulls.

The hype grows day by day. :)

I like the idea of painting the skulls as armour.... anyone a dab hand with photoshop that could let us know what that would look like?

Thinking about it for a minute, it would be pretty confusing to introduce Dire Bats into the game after we already have Bat Swarms, Fell Bats and Dire Wolves. Maybe just a typo?

Could also just be that it rhymes... corpse rats and dire bats sounds better than 'corpse rats and bat swarms'
