You aint! That sums me up as well. I've always liked the idea of a fantasy mini game. I glanced at Warmachine/Hoards, Runewars, Frostgrave... even Wild West Exodus. They all looked cool, but didn't grab me. I always shied away from GW stuff due to price and sprues. Then Legion came out... sucker! I'm in like Flynn. And when the LRL box was previewed, I pretty much went Heck Yeah. I do wish AoS stuff was less expensive like Runewars is/was, but ce la vie.... but I will say the models, while a pain in the but to build sometimes and paint, they are very well sculpted.

Lie! 😉 being new trying to get as good an idea as too the world of pain I’m getting into. Learned the hard way on them Wardens. And yeaaahhhh more runes!!!! Any other times to be found on them? I’ve been having fun digging into the older runes and seeing which ones are on the wardens....

I've been trying to build the LRL guys in sub assemblies, so questions: The Scinari looks like she could be built and then painted with out much fuss, except for her Right arm, which crosses over her chest. As for the Wardens. Dang, they do look cool! Are the Right Arms/Arrows a separate piece? How does it look like to get in there and paint the nooks and crannies around that arm>

This whole "Tower" thing is intriguing. I'm looking at the Rune atop of the sword wielders flag. Thinking about the Rune that Aloth shared...and falling down the rabbit hole. Reading about the Tower, looking at other Runes. IF it's a pattern, most times when we see a rune on a staff, it related. I'm speaking of the Stonemage's staff. It has the Alaithi, Mountain rune. Could this Flag follow the same pattern? And it looks a lot like these: The old High Elf symbol of Vaul.

First off dude you rock! I LOVE this idea... I don't know much about WFB elves (although I should read more I guess). A tower full of magic and lore, that is riddled with Wisdom and Misery? Could this tower have survived the End Times? Sweeeeet. And wasn't this tower founded by Teclis, its High Loremaster....? And defended by the Swordmasters? Soooooo maybe this group, "Myari’s Purifiers, a band of Lumineth Realm-lords pledged to calm the mountain’s growing wrath" is a new link to the Tower? They could be Alarith, due to the connection to the mountain. But Im hoping for a new Temple!! And Nation. Does anyone know who Myari might be? Was there a WFB character of the same name? Also, Purifiers has more of a Fighter than a Mage feel. So maybe a glimpse into a Tyronic Nation?!? Maybe.... In regards to the GW video guides, I've found them to be... lackluster too... A "make something super-quick so we can say we did it" vibe. Maybe for a more "basic" guide? Especially compared to some found on YouTube, or at Duncan Rhodes Painting academy.... (which is awesome btw!!). I've used the Ymetrica Alt guide from the Tome, and really liked the results. I usually paint each squad a different scheme so I can "easily" tell them apart on the table, no matter what Nation my list might be from. Plus it looks cool IMHO.... But for these guys I might make a Warden and Dawnrider match... dunno.

Box art!?! Can’t forget that. Lol. Good point! Totally missed that the sword barer On the card is casting/doing something with a rune there. And it does look like the Wind Rune. 👀 but the irony is that the card is “channel the river”, and he’s using an Wind rune? And the armor symbol looks like a Tower, like the flag on the box. Wonder what that could mean? A new Nation? Temple? and the rune on top of the Back Flag? Doesn’t look like any of the runes from the BT to me. And yeah... after a wee bit more ****** CSI photo action on the Mage, I can barely see the Full Combo Rune on their chest. Good call. now I’m even more excited for this box that I’ll only buy for the LRL models.... hopefully I can eBay the other stuff.

/start lore ramblings Me too!! A more melee focused one to supplement LoE, or to ride shotgun to the Scinari/Stonemage. I'm sure people with better eyes then me have done this already, but I've tried to capture some shots of the Preview: My ramblings about the Mage. As mentioned earlier, I agree that all signs point towards this being a Zenith mage. I sure hope so!! And the Sword wielder: Sorry for the Crocodile Dundee reference... lol... but that sword is HUGE! Not being familiar with the older WFB, and the specific sword masters/loremasters. Did they usually have a banner attached? I've read about them, and I would be super stoked to get either one of those people in my army! IMO, the base has those GW trees, so I'm guessing it's more like LoE/Scinari hero style. Slightly bigger base with cool scenery. As far as the cards, they all have the LRL symbol, of the Runic Mandala in the top right corner, much like the cards in Warcry. I was trying to see if I could zoom in to see the symbol on the drawing. Meh.... could be the Alaithi/Mountain rune? not sure... 🤘 /end lore ramblings

Ahhh!! Makes more sense now.... 8 Nations... now, with the LRL recent release, how looooong will we have to wait for another set of Nations, ie the Tyronic side? The next battle tome? They come out what, 2-3 years? That's a long wait!!! 4 Temples found in any Nation. Thus an Alarith Stonemage, or a Thalarith Zenithmage, or Orealith Windmage.... could be from any nation. Hmmm I can dig it. Vanari is to War/warriors, as Scinari is to.... Preists/?? Now, with the Vanari, theres another keyword: Auralan... And only with the Sentinels and Wardens..I've not found a "meaning " of it in the battle tome yet. Does this relate to Temples or Nations?

Man I gotta re-read the battle tome.... lol. But I really love these ideas!! So, what about these other TERMS? Scinari, Vanari and Alarith, are they houses? sub-sections? We have the Nations.. are these sub-nations? Mountain: Spirit=Yaks IF we go along an Asian/Eastern influence. Rune=Alaithi which turns into Alarith as a title/keyword. Trait= Endurance Wind: Spirit=Fox? ; Asian influences usually reference cunning, trickery, or sometimes associated with transformation. And they are often portrayed as women. The tome talks about an Ephemeral Force/Hurricane's Anger. Rune = Oreali so what's their title/keyword? Orealith? It reminds me of the saying a reed bends in the wind. Trait=? everywhere? Speed? And dragons! River: Spirit=? How I'd love to see dragons!! Something different than the Deepkin... Do we go towards a Naiades/Nymphs or more eastern? Salamander? Selkie? Kelpie's would also be cool! Rune = Ydriliqi (say that fast three times)... keyword is unpronounceable.... lol, Ydrilith? They could be Quick Thinking, unstoppable. Trait = I vote for maneuverability. Water flows around and over everything. Found this fun quote: “If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by.” And Zenith! Spirit = Ummm.. Dragons. ha! But getting the Phoenix/Bird models back in play would rock. Rune - Thalari. Where Light rules alone. The perfect combo of both houses of Teclis and Tyrion as Aloth said! Title/keyword could be Thalarith. Trait = dig the ideas of highly attuned magical powers, not quite Teclis though. I'm concerned about the "rules alone" part. Would they be very limited on allies? Really really haughty aelves? And end of my ramblings....

Thanks for all the sub-assembly ideas for the Dawnriders. I’m about to try one this week and not gonna lie.... a wee bit scared of mold lines and painting.... How do they compare to LoE? He was a challenge but I kept him in three or so subs.

Having just dived in, I was warned that GW... doesn't use lube, nudge nudge.... So even with my FLGS discounts it can get pricey. So far I am enjoying the Ltd Box, and will order 1 set of: Sentinels and Endless Spells. Maybe the Warscrolls... so that, as I mentioned before, keep it a 1k list ish. And slowly build up. WOULD: any of you get another LRL Ltd Box set to beef up your collection? My FLGS has one left, and I could get it, keep the Wardens (maybe the Dawnriders and dice? I feel that blue dice works way better for these...) and ebay the rest? But, looking to save a few bucks, and maybe get things to kitbash, what are the thoughts of doing this: Get a Mistweaver to turn into a Cathallar. (I've really enjoyed doing this for my other Cathallar, so another one? Why not) Eternal Guard/Wildwood Rangers or Phoenix Guard or Black Guard or Dreadspears as a proxy for another set of Wardens? The Eternal/Wildwood are going for ~$40 on ebay... Sisters of the Watch/Shadow Warriors for Sentinels.... ~$40 on ebay. but what about a fun Alt for Calvary? I dig these: DrakeSpawn, but use the LRL horses? Dark Riders, Sisters of the thorn/Wild Riders? And, in regards to scale, how do these older models compare to the newer LRL's?

Thanks all for the thoughts!! I'm trying to build my list around what I actually have (not all painted mind, but have) so that list you've shared is a pretty dang good one! Although I only have 2 Wardens, and 2 Dawnriders. Plus LoE and a Cathallar stand-in. I'm going to get 1 set of sentinels and the endless spells. So hopefully soon I'll get a game in and see how they roll.

So I'm finally getting around to fudging a list together. Planning on doing a 1k list at first to practice with the LRL's, then slowly adding/buying up to get a 2k. I'm using the Warscroll builder, and have a few questions: When I put the Wardens in, they have three slots for Lore Spells? Thought they only knew one (Power of H) and Overwhelming Heat IF they are from Zaitrac. Why three slots? And none of those spells show up in the drop down lists.... am I missing something? Does the Cathallar get an extra spell from the Lore? She knows Bolt, Shield, Darkness o Soul, Overwhelming heat (Zaitrac spell)... that's it right? What's everyone's thoughts on the endless spells? Rune of Petricifation or Twin Stones? I like the idea of a spell that can't affect me. What do others use for list building? Here's my 1st list: I've edited over the spells to show what I think they should have.

The Nomad Prince is from GW. The other mini is the/a Male Human Sorcerer from Wizkids, the Pathfinder Deep Cuts line I think. IMO the mini isn't quite as clean and crisp as the digital render I used above, but they could make a cool hero/stand in for a Lumineth. I do like their use of the clear plastic for spell effects. Here's a quick comparison to a Warden. The Wizkid scale is just a bit off... but close. Think it's 28mm vs 32mm?

It's been a wee bit more effort than I anticipated. lol... For the arms... I've landed on two options: One: the staff from the Nomad Prince. It's got a great looking blade, an "aetherquartz" gem. OR the staff and/or spell from this. The spell and staff effect are clear so that they match her spell effect base, and maybe I can make them look spectral. the scale is a little smaller than her, so not sure: But I'm still open to suggestions.

Thanks! I've got some process photos that I'll gladly clog up this discussion page with.. I mean share. I got the inspiration from my SW:Legion games/research: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/8/28/an-elegant-weapon/ . One day I'll make my Saber look this cool. But on to LoE. There was a post earlier with a link to another great way to LED up LoE. Here's my inspiration: SO COOL!!!! But how to do it?!? I researched LED's, etc. Found both Green Stuff World and Evan Designs have cool LED's. I ordered some Pico LED's and went for it. Here all the bits: CR2032 3v coin battery, LED's (originally I was using two flicker from Evan Designs, and one solid from GSW. I broke the GSW one mid process, so swapped it out for another flicker on from Evan), and LoE in it's sub-assemblies. Following the ideas from the website above, I drilled two holes for the magnets. I used two Bar style magnets(to double down on the battery being held in place) in the middle, and one disk magnet above the battery. Then, on both top and bottom of base, I painted Conductive Paint from GSW on the magnets. Again, making sure they would conduct really well. The red dot reminded me which one was the Positive connection. I tested as I went, making sure I din't mess up the circuit. I covered the magnets with putty to prime the base. Then, I super glued the wires down, and used the conductive paint to "solder" the wires to the magnets, testing testing testing.... Here's the next to last step. Getting all the wires stuffed into the base!! This is where I broke () the GSW LED... These are all the Pico size, so they are really delicate... I added another Even designs here, glued, tested, etc.. I ran the wires up next to the left leg/tabard, behind the tabard, and into the body. Painted them black. Then I finished putting the model together. Now, here I should have kept the model in it's sub assemblies for painting. Live and learn. I'm trying to Poly-Fill (a polyester fiber used for stuffing pillows, etc) as a diffuser. And also to suggest that there is something ethereal inside the armor. Hope this help and inspires yall to try out LED's.... heck, if I can do it, you can!!! Just really take your time, plan out how to wire it, do several mockups if possible. Then go for it! And FYI, here's a LED size comparison:

And, just to be a pest, here's my first attempt at LED's. I've put them inside the Light of E. I think it looks great. I'm trying out some fibers inside as well, acting like a diffuser. But maybe also giving him a bit more ghostly inner presence. Like something other worldly is inside the armor. I got the LED's from https://evandesigns.com. So far, one of the best places I've found. In the States at least. IF you've got a better place to get LED's, let me know! But they have a great selection, and some SMALL sizes. Check them out! Their flicker LED's are the bomb! Oh man oh man... my wallet will not be happy next week.... IF my FLGS has them of course. Not sure on how many sentinels I'll get, but prolly 20 (that'd be what, two boxes?) My goal is to get a 1k set up first, play it a bunch, then slowly add in more units. Now, does anyone have any idea on how much these models might be? trying to prepare my self and my bank account.

Here's the progress I've made so far with my Cathallar kitbash. Slow but steady. I've got a wee bit of a base mocked up. Trying to emulate her spell exploding out of the ground and lifting her up before she spreads the emotions from the aetherquartz. I'm planning on filling in the base with model paste, attaching which ever themed ground I wanna use (this is cracked earth, the other could be Madness/Cthulu), filling in with some dirt, debris. And because I'm bored and I can, a fun movie... thoughts questions comments welcome. (PS I ... just can't paint eyes..... just can't.... so eventually I'll redo them blank.) Cathallar kitbash v3.mp4

First off..... Dear GW: Second... I'm very glad to hear that the rest of the Vanari are coming out first. Can't wait to get my hands on them Sentinels! And maybe more Wardens... ugh...lol. Thirdly, Fourth, etc: How different will this new Battle Tome be from the one in the Preview Kit.... will I need to get it? And what do you all think of the Warscroll Cards? Necessary? I've made my own PDF/Printables Sheets to use (see prelim design below), but having a card could be fun (Coming from SW:Legion style of playing, I dig them from an easy access point for info). First off.... EPIC job there dude... I am in the middle of a kitbash Cathallar also, but yours is amazing! I am so jealous of that GreenStuff action. Now I've got Kitbash Envy.... And are those "old" High Elf heads on the Wardens? Sweeeet!!

Time means nothing in the Age of Sigmar. OR, actually, when you are painting mini's.... after all it' not a strict progression of painting to playing, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint – it’s more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly… time-y wimey… stuff.

Thanks for the links! Puppets War has some great looking bits. Paladin and Praetorian crests could work, as well as the Top Knots... And, to go crazy, the Lion, Wing, Dragon helmets and shoulder pads could be a very cool mod for either a whole squad or just the leader/banner.
