As if Vanquishers couldn't get any worse, they are just two copies of one sprue crammed into a single box.

    Vigilors, too.

A single Vanquisher sprue could build both a musician and a banner, so why do Vanquishers require 10 models to use them???

The vigilors look like 10 different models to me.

edit - stand corrected x5 bodies with alternatives for two hands on a bow or bow and sword as well as head options.

I guess you could split em.

The stormdrake guard/ hero version kit

surprise they only mention the Big dragon kit was delayed but not that one

The Yndastra spruce will also get a separate release eventually. Are vigillors and Vanquishers the same kit or separate kits?

Speaking as someone with a forgeworld Chaos Dwarf army, the price point is not comparable to other WFB armies from the time. The Battleline troops were hugely expensive compared to regular troops (though AoS models have since caught up. I have one unit of each, and never even considered getting any more, because it was far easier to fill out the army with cheaper alternatives from other companies. Every other model is close to being a big centrepiece, which again was less common back then. They are great, and I love them, but they were in no way an easy army to collect, so its no surprise that more affordable alternatives are common.

As to AoS vs WFB. I've often summed it up thus:

The Old World is a bad idea executed to perfection.
It is a carbon copy of earth crammed with a mishmash of fantasy cliches. It shouldn't work, except that some talented game writers spent thirty years adding so much hidden depth that it became a classic. You only have to scratch the surface to see how it cleverly deconstructs and plays with its most cliched tropes. It will always be beloved.

Age of Sigmar is a brilliant idea, executed quite badly.

It has massive potential, and they have really done well at fleshing out as much of it as they have as quickly as they have. The scale and scope of the setting, and the diversity and variety which it allows really makes it stand out. However, its still in its early days, and is still haunted by the legacy of the undefined vagueness, which put people off at the start. The silly names and unclear history make it a very hard sell for a lot of people who would love it if they gave it a chance.

I like your arguments. Reading the Josh Reynolds Hallowed Knights I think it is better developed than the lore on warcom and wikis give away. The third ed core book has fantastic sections on the cities of sigmar. I see a lot of contemporary fantasy influences creeping in, China Mieville with the cities in Shyish and Ulugu. I think it is developing well and by design has less risk of stagnation the TOW, in terms of lore and design. So I’m hopeful. A lot of the vague elements remind me of 40k RT and using my imangination to fill in the gaps. I like this.

@Neil Arthur Hotep You kind of have it. There's a few different formats for WHU that only really matter for organised play but then as it's meant to be a game more heavily based around formal organised games in tournaments and such than AoS/40k, these are a bigger deal.

    • Championship - all warbands and faction-specific cards allowed, only universal cards from this season and the last season
    • Vanguard - only warbands and cards from current season
    • Relic - anything goes, all warbands/cards

What this means is that you can absolutely play old warbands for most organised games but you still need to get the latest starter kit to ensure that you have legal universal cards, hence encouraging this FOMO sort of buying behaviour.* Older warbands can still be competitive - Mollog's Mob was killing it before a recent update because of some interactions with S4 universal cards - but in practice most are getting a bit left behind in terms of power in the same way as older battletomes/codices in AoS/40k.

From a sales POV, you've hit on the issue. Warbands from S1 and S2 are only available without their cards. If you buy, say, Zarbag's Gits, you get the minis but you'd need to either buy the cards secondhand or print them yourself (which is doable but a pain and I'm not sure if it tournies have an issue with it). If you buy a S3 warband like e.g. Rippa's Snarlfangs, you do get cards but maybe half of those cards can't be used legally in two of the three organised play formats. Once these go out of stock, we may well see them reissued without the cards as with S1/S2 warbands, which brings us back to the same problem.

In a sense this new Rivals format is sort of orthogonal to the whole seasons/rotation thing, it's basically just sticking to pre-made decks. It does simplify things, which is good, but it's not clear how it'll work with these older warbands who don't have (legal) cards and it doesn't address the larger unfortunate side-effects that the card rotation brings. You could call these 'problems' but they're maybe just what happens when you have a game that is explicitly about keeping organised/competitive play fresh and with a business model based around buying new warbands frequently for new cards.

Speaking as someone who doesn't play at all competitively, Rivals is basically just a formalisation of how this game gets played with folks from a board game background; pre-made decks, who cares about rotation. Treated that way it's genuinely a fantastic game, possibly GW's best-written, if one that is lately straining against the limits of giving each warband a unique angle.

    * which is common in lots of games but was largely not present in GW stuff until WHU. It's funny, one of the big things GW learned from watching games like FFG's X-Wing was the most irritating and consumer-unfriendly aspect of them, one of the only messy games industry practices they had historically not had front and centre.

Thanks - its convinced me to pick it up

Even if the dragon issue is true, that does not explain why none of the other kits are being released and 0 communication is taking place. GW sold us the battletome weeks ago, with rules for models nowhere to be seen for weeks and not even as much as a word on what is going on, that is just so so poorly executed by them.

If there really is an production issue, tell us, instead we are now getting black templars before what should have been the first big wave of AoS 3.0 models... Even Kruleboyz are still missing the boltboyz kit, which is arguably perhaps the most important one for them, leaving people with no other option than to scavenge Dominion kits...

Yes - is there a customer service email we can all ask?

Banking on Umbraneth/Ulgu Aelves is a pretty safe bet as Malerion will sooner or later get an army of their own. I'd also expect Dawnbringers to be a part of CoS - maybe like Witch Hunters/Zealots of old - rather than a new army. But the rumour DOES promise Chorfs so guess I have to hope its true 😉

(Although I think 'Furnace Kings' sounds way cooler than 'Oathbreakers', as the latter sounds like what a vanilla!Duardin would call my sweet evil masterminds rather than their own name - Furnace Kings sounds what they would call themselves!)

Reading Black Pyramid. There are Furnace Kings references there!!

it's something much much deeper than all of the above.

When the pandemic hit production in nearly all walks of life stopped, and so it did for raw materials as well. Plastics, metals, everything.

What everyone thought was that it was a blip of a few weeks, almost like a factory summer shutdown, not something that would run for over a year.

The byproduct of that is nobody stockpiled anything.

the byproduct of that is that suddenly demand for such things went through the roof - mainly due to production stopping but people finding that they had the time for activities and projects that otherwise would not have happened and in so doing the stock that was there was depleted overnight, whereas the companies themselves thought that demand would be low to non existent.

Leaving out brexit, haulage crisis etc, what you have is a situation where when the world, not just the Uk, but the world woke up, everyone wanted everything right now or yesterday at the same time.  It's like everyone on the planet switching on their lights at the same time - there's just not enough electricity to cope with the demand.

So it is with production of material goods.

That raw material asset wasn't being produced during lockdowns, so the reserves got depleted to nothing.  Now, that has meant that any forcasting or forward planning has gone out of the window as even had you got your chaos dwarf release made, there's no guarantee there's a single shipping container free till next year, where you were guaranteed a dozen every three months before.

look at the auto industry, perfect example, if it's not the materials to make the bodywork it's the materials needed to make the semiconductors in the control circuits on some of the electrical components.  That's why used cars that should be half the price of a warlord titan are selling for a king's ransom at the moment.

Then you top that off with the small detail of the logistics and distribution chain.  You have suppliers who cannot promise a lead time on an item because they themselves don't know if they can make it in the guaranteed promised timeframe. Currently we're working on things that should only take a month to get to us and we're being told realistically (safety margin) possibly march to June next year, go figure.

Until everything evens itself out you've got another year if not two of this fun and games to look forward to not just in gaming but across all walks of life.

    Wow - a great summary.

    What is happening exactly?

Rise in gas prices has caused an Energy crisis affecting business costs. Also affecting manufacturing and food production.

Severe shortage of hgv drivers has caused a supply chain crisis affecting the rate we can get goods to shelves and ship overseas. Brexit, retirement and tax changes are the main causes. Critically, this has also affected domestic petrol supply.

The latter will impact GW the most.

Other global issues around paper and card supply are also likely to impact GW and have done so already.

I can understand their reticense to release a full roadmap but a release order and list of armies would be great.

I think with the current issues in the UK, I suspect GW are keeping things close to their chest about releases. Considering how much planning needs to go into a release they could be sitting on a load of stuff they can’t move out.

Yeah, its a mad time to try and plan ahead. Some comms would be welcome though.

Agreed, a roadmap for everything GW produces would be amazing right now, especially since they're apparently not doing any more previews atm. AOS and anything related to Fantasy, barring Total War and The Old World, seems to be getting the shaft for now, while 40k is getting another space marine army(albeit a rather badass one), and has a ,so far, accurate unofficial roadmap in the form of that one rumor post. For now I propose we all focus on finishing our current armies and posting nonsensical rumors about Chaos Dwarfs until we know what chaos is getting this October.

Yes, just months being laid out would be great for battletomes and big game releases.

  11. So collected soupy rumours to date from here with a bit of supposition from me.

    1) The ‘Naughty Elves’ collective. IDK, DOK. Will this include tge rumored Shadow Elves / Daemons of ulugu? Wonder if the old fantasy dark elves from Cities are included? Lore wise this had been trailed and they are all awesome models…

    2) ‘Increase the numbers of the Beast’ by merging BOC and STD probablywith a reduction of resin in both lines.

    3) ‘Dwarves ReUnited’. Khaderon and slayers. Again, will the old fantasy range be in the mix? They are great models after all.

    4) ‘Dawnbringer crusades’ the original soup with a spicy new mix. Cities of Sigmar reworked with a mostly human focus but ability to take allies from the others. I would love more kits but wonder if we get upgrade spruces, heads and weapons etc.

In this particular case, it seem kinda hard to fault GW for taking down the auction in question. I have not seen the auction that was taken down, but here's the name of another auction of that particular seller:

"Painted Miniature Age of Sigmar Goblin Rider Warhammer Squig Hopper Gloomspite"

It's an auction for this particular model from Raging Heroes:

    Grotix-Pumpkin-Rider-WEB_5000x.jpg?v=1606474080

So it's patently not an "Age of Sigmar" mini, as per the auction title.

The auction that was taken down was for a Mega-Gargant proxy. If that was listed with a similar title (like "Painted Miniature Age of Sigmar Giant Sons of Behemat"), then GW seems in the right in this case. This really is not any different from shutting down other knock-off sellers. In my mind, that counts as consumer protection if anything.

There is also the additional wrinkle that this particular seller seems to be selling home resin prints of files that come with a "no commercial use" clause, which has nothing to do with GW but is kinda questionable in it's own right.

Raging heroes have some good sculpts but Re highly derirative. Not suprised tbh and find it hard to defend their positions.

Many of the patreon 3d model services are also patchy, lots of ‘not necrons’ out there as well as some that fill tomb king and bretonnia shaped holes in the markey.  But its a grey area and a risky way to make a business.

Maybe all these cool scuplters shouls just work up their own original IP…
