  1. I have taken a few days to really mull over things, and Honestly I have to say I am going to wait till malerion. I have already started going back to build my Eldar 40k Army. I loved the first reveal, the spearmen looked great and the dawn riders looked awesome, silly plumes could be excused. I really felt that they were super evocative of the old high elves, and I was really pleased that maybe now I could start playing a "high elf" styled army. the next reveal of models had me less enthused due to the goofy helms but was willing to do some head swaps and deal with the mage if I couldnt get him swapped with my minor conversion skills. however the adepticon reveals.... I think I am out. I dont feel like these models feel very "pointy Elf" at all, the huge center pieces  (I could deal with Teclis, he was growing on me) I dont care for, they look too beastmen or beastagor. I was excited for phoenix, Dragon style models, not bulls all over the place and being more reminiscent of beastmen. maybe there is a lot more to this Army and they will release all the elemental forces, maybe the zenith will have a dragon or phoenix style, or the wind models will have more of an eagle style. something more true to roots on the elves of old. Nothing new really screams elf to me, and honestly doesnt really pique my interest even if it was the "mountain men" army or something that games workshop chose to tie to the high elves.

I do think the models are pretty, and dont hold it against those who like the models, I just cant see myself playing with them. Maybe when Malerion comes around that will get me excited again to play AoS. I dont believe that Tyrion will be in this release anymore with what they have revealed, so maybe his "angelic Elves" will be better suited to my modeling tastes. I am excited for all those who really like the models and are excited, I am just no longer excited for this release at all, I am hopeful that this will be a huge release and they will be releasing more elemental groups and those will appeal to me, but I am not holding my breath for that.

The awkward S-Toy-shaped helmets are killing it for me ....

and yeah, the bull mage would is cool, if you can change the head.

not a if, but a how much work to change the head. always can its just plastic, cut and greenstuff or kit bash... but yes I agree.... I dont mind the body and armor of a lot of the models, I dislike almost all of the heads and helms that have come out.

it also looks like the archers will be a separate kit, which sucks for our wallets, as long as they are not build too monopose we might be able to kit bash to make them a bit more unique.... they said in the article that they were easy to make them all unique but then the picture of them.... they are all the same pose and same look almost to a T. I mean It honestly looks like they took one picture and photoshopped it 9 times around the leader guy.

but damn I cant say it enough, the helms on these guys and all the head swaps I am going to be doing almost is enough to turn me off to the army.... then I tell myself.... come ooooonnnn its high elves.... just do the head swaps lol! then of course they might grow on me. but right now I am thinking old high elf or AoS Cities bits.

Seems like Aelves are really vain.

I can't see anything wrong with those faces.

    lol, duh.

I will say that games workshop is not great face painting.... not that I am amazing either but the plastic is what matters not the paint job. I don't care one way or the other about the faces. some of the detail can be removed to smooth out a face if needed, and some of the details may be just paint. what bothers me is the helms, but historically for me. GW has been horrible about helms and head dressings being atrocious. Not trying to take anyone's enjoyment out but for me I never really care for the way they make helms and helm adornments.

  4. I first saw the article and my heart sank, as I scrolled and saw teclis... I was like really just going to go over the same silly stuff for the last two models. then started reading and saw the new previews.... hmmm I dislike the heads, but head swaps are easy depending on how they are modeled. but I will probably be doing a lot of model editing magic on the heads of all of these models. I really dislike the helms and decor they are wearing....

As someone mentioned before, the arch mage on the rock I bet will have swappable gear to make them attuned to which ever spirit you want your high mage to be. I am curious as to the brazier and what it is connected to, will this be part of a leader model a big mage kit, the scenery "unit" or something else. also the elven lady who others have pointed out looks insanely close to the damsel from brettonia.... wonder is she is going to be a basic mage, or part of another unit or some kind of special character.

I do like that it looks like we will get a nice range of male and female models in the release, but some of these pictures make me wonder how many units and kits we will actually get. hell maybe the damsel will be part of Tyrion's kit.

Don’t get too excited about this idea haha, I doubt it’ll be the case, though it would be very cool.
Also, I only just realised it’s been 2 weeks since our last article so more info incoming in a couple of days. :D

I agree its not likely it will happen but would be cool though!

If we do get them, I think it will most likely be as Endless Spells.  They would be cheaper to produce, though not so detailed, and fit the bill for summoning Elementals rather than have them as a troop type. Just my thoughts.

I not only like this idea but also feel its super flavorful and would be fun to play against in the fact that you could dispel the summons and therefor not be over powered.

Yeah, I think most of us feel like that. Especially with them emphasising how much everything is based on the Teclis' nostalgia for the former High elf culture. They could maybe try to say that the aetherqartzed Lumineth are so graceful that they even make hammers an elegant weapon. But then the armour also doesn't look very graceful.

So maybe the development process went like this:

Teclis: Sooo, let's see  .... we have graceful horses with the light of speed, long, elegant spears, and graceful helmets. Next we need some sophisticated greatsw....

Tyrion: HAMMERS!!!! You promised me that I can design one of our units.

In a way it's good that they also try some new stuff. I'm sure we get at least some great swords. It would be really strange if Teclis wouldn't try to re-design the Swordmasters. I also wonder if we don't see great axes. I think the White Lions were a really popular unit.

My disconnect is all the MC hammer between Teclis' pants and Aelves with hammers.... in all seriousness though I agree with those before, its just not how I see Elven warriors, honestly even greatswords and great axes in old world was a bit of a stretch for me, not impossible but stretching it. If they make a hammer unit, I will probably be converting it to be an Great axe unit though. I dont mind them trying new stuff and maybe the units will look so cool that I wont care anymore. but it is odd about all the nostalgia, like you said, only to go kind of off the rails.... I know they need to make them fresh enough though to draw in people who dont want high elves of old though.

@Rhetoric It’s okay to be in denial, a lot of us were when we first heard about hammer Aelves.

While I do think that hammer Aelves will be legit, with this picture I feel like that rumor is gaining momentum. It is still possible that is a picture of a war machine operator or something else. Now if we could only touch some photos from GW instead of just having to pray every day about what we will get released. But alas GW just wants to gain some momentum from rumors to increase hype, that's just how they roll.... */mchammer puns off*

In all seriousness, could be but we still don't really know until we actually see what the unit is, rather than just a blurry picture. I do have a feeling those who say hammer unit is correct, and i'll either have a bunch of 80's puns whenever I play or conversions ahead.

  9. I also agree that the art isnt horrible, I dislike the taste of hammers for elves still though. but then that is what conversions are for, and swapping a hammer head for a awesome axe might be what the doctor ordered for me then. I'll reserve full judgement till I see the models, I do really hope the dawnriders are a dual kit and we can give them some bows too. Even if we cannot legally have bows, I might magnetize a conversion so that way if I ever decide to play Ninth age or some old school WHFB then I can swap them to be reavers.

I think this article posted more info than I initially thought, I was really super bummed out at first but it seems after getting off my ****** and perusing the forums here yall have renewed my vigor for the army... I do have to say though if we do not get dragons and dragons are the Malerion route, then I will 100% be buying them and they will probably happen to have the same color scheme as my LRL with a few different highlights.... I mean they are both order so if the LRL don't get dragon knights on dragons, shooting dragons magicially at enemies.... then I will just have to ally with the guy who will LOL!

Oh I also heard someone on rantcast about the lumineth realm lords predict that the rock or base that everyone is saying is from the rumor engine and is terrain, may be a caster lord style character or a support caster. If you look at the rumor engine there is something coming off the rock. Not saying that is what it is or isn't, it could be energy connected to nothing but with how dynamic and monopose GW has been lately with floaty (albeit good) models... it could be connected to a lumineth realm lord caster of some type.

Edit: to add a point and not double post.

Teclis - that would be probably the only thing which would prevent me from buying the Lumineth, if Teclis and the mages aren’t good casters in the end. I think he will be though. Agree with Korardel here, he was good for a long time in WHFB, they called him here Mage God and what not, it would be strange if he wasn’t a strong mage in the end after all that.

while I agree that they will probably show him and hopefully all the LRL mages some love... hopefully making him on par casting wise to Nagash at least. this is the company that talks about how eldar weapons melt all armor, flesh and harness the power of stars.... but then they give them in game 5+ to wound and AP5 weapons... sorry not to be a negative nancy, I am sure GW will give the LRL the love they deserve. and I feel like GW has gotten a lot better over the last few years in general. It's Just sometimes the company is not good at matching fluff to game play or vise versa.

Honestly I’m even more hype at the possibility of malerion being released soon after, so even if they came out next week I might’ve still waited. I’m not like y’all who have been waiting for years, they didn’t even cross my mind until the first reveal. They definitely look cool and I’ll be getting a Sphinx at some point tho

Yeah I am pretty amped about Malerion, if his army is one third dragon, elf and demon then I am on board. those will be my two armies, LRL and Malerion elves. I am mixed, I kind of want them to do a dual release so I can buy two small armies of each and play with some friends who dont have models. but at the same time I am like.... no I want them to space them out so I have time to paint my LRL first.

Has anyone put any thought yet into doing a theme board for this army?  I was originally thinking of doing crystalline gowths with a desert base, but with all of the stone outcroppings and plant life on the models we've seen I may have to rethink that.  It might wind up representing a more Ulthuan of old style board.

@Thiagoma I agree that from an info perspective, it was a bit of a bust.  However, that Zenith Warden picture may wind up being my inspiration for my army's color scheme!

I think you could still do crystalline or some other appearance to the bases. could do them as an invading force to any other realm if you wanted. I am thinking I'll either do the naturey bases trees and stone work like they have been showing already or I might go with a lava style base. I do usually like to do snow though, and could go that way snow and ice crystals. granted I could take the base style they do for the LRL and still add snowy scenes to it.

Yeah annoying these little previews are kind of causing my hype to waste away a little. I’ll get interested again when they show new stuff though.

I agree, I think the space at which the tidbits we get are so far apart and the lack of any real information has kind of turned me off a bit. almost like I would rather just not look at anything till a majority of the info is out... too bad I am like a GW crack addict and probably wont be able to stay away from each release rumor, even if I am just disappointed afterwards reading it lol.

Do every on want dragon prinses whit lions and sward masters are i the only one ho wants elementals or animated armours as elit units?

I'd be cool with summonable elementals, I dont know if I really want a unit of light elementals, unless its knights on light elemental dragons. then I would buy that up in a heartbeat

I just hope they don’t go with the - the Lumineth are already almost extinct and rely on animated warriors and spirits because of numbers - thing. I’d really like to have some expanding elves for once. That’s kind of the only thing I really don’t feel nostalgic about.

I cant second this enough, I agree so much. I am so tired of the dying elves trope that gets recycled over and over again... especially in a game where thousands of them die all the time but there is never really any dent in the population... are they really dying at that point.

I just had a 500pts introduction game where I brought:

Slaughter queen, 10 sisters of slaughter, avatar of Khaine and 5 khinerai heartrenders

it was super fun and easy to understand. The most tricky part is the allegiance abilities. Because those stack on top of learning a new game. But with tool like AoS reminders that is not a big problem either. Next introduction game I would play it without the allegiance abilities and add them game 2.*

    What I played then was:

    - super clear. ‘Those girls have whips, so they can attack from farther’, ‘those have wings and javelins, so their fast and shoot’, ‘that statue has a big ass sword, it wrecks face’

    - has fun tools in the army. You have something to do in the hero phase with praying. You have something tricky to do with the Decent to Battle rule.

    - the synergy is clear. The statue only moves if you pray for it to move until turn 3. The sisters of slaughter fight harder if their queen is in shouting distance.

But the big thing is, IMO, you spend more time on the hobby side of things. So if she’ll enjoy painting and modelling this army than unless she wants to win a grand tournament... choose the army she’ll enjoy the hobby off.

only downside to the army is the cost of the witch elves & if you play bigger games the rules do stack a lot. I find it tricky to get everything in range and remember all those things. But most armies have that.

    * but it was against stormcast and they lose all cool stuff without those abilities. So we did play the allegiance abilities from the start.

Thanks Kramer, I agree that modeling and painting is by far the largest part about this army. i just didnt want her to start an army she enjoys painting but then is completely turned off form the game not cause she dislikes the game but how the army plays and possible confusion by the army. It sounds though like if she decides she likes the aesthetic of this army it should be fine in play and may get better in a year or two when a new battle tomb drops. I appreciate all the info from everyone!

I guess most of us think like that. What I meant for example when I wrote that it's likely we see Swordmasters, White Lions and Dragon Knights, I meant that we'll see somewhat similar units . I doubt that the new "White Lions" will have White Lions coats, but I think there will be some kind of Great Axe wielding unit for the Lumineth with a similar feeling to them. Same for the Dragon Knights, if they come back, I don't think they'll ride on horses.

This is actually one of the things I look most forward to, their mounts and monsters. Will they go full Hysh Spirits a la Celennar, or do we get dragons? Or might there be some spirit like "Hysh Dragons" and how would those look like.

I second this, I dont think we will see clones of the old high elves, I think we will see inspired models. when I said they have to balance AoS high fantasy and new with nostalgia. I think it would be cool if the dragon riders became knights who rode crystalized light in the shape of dragons into battle. not sure that will happen in fact i feel like it is unlikely but would still be pretty damn cool!

I also have to admit, I am not overly a huge fan of the white lions and the sword masters, although the latter were not horrible, just not my preference. I did dig the reavers, shadows and all the mages and dragons though! So if the Lions and sword masters come back I really hope they get a super unique twist and change to them that makes them super cool, fun, and exciting.

Then old world is older then me! People will look back at AOS and think similar of it once it’s gone.

i will say that certain aspects of the old world I miss. It’s harder to do less epic stories in AOS. A gritty setting gives off an aura that adds flavour to each and every story. Old vampires vs new death armies are so alien despite being the same alliance. Even orks have become more fantastical, but I do think destruction has done the least amount of changing.

However the writing and setting is superb, just the decription of slaanesh armies vanishing without a trace in ulgu has me hyped for malerions inevitable release. The short  stories in the flesh eaters court tome are amazing, and chaos has become so much more relatable to the point where specific chaos armies don’t even feel like badguys anymore, just victims of happenstance.

from a gaming perspective the game feels so much more balanced, and also feels like it has just as much depth as fantasy despite The vastly simplified ruleset. I miss the old magic phases and level 4 wizards risking death to pump out powerful spells the most (prolly why I originally gravitated toward tzeentch) but other then that the new game feels so much better.

i  do also miss the old magic item system, it felt like I could customize my hero to do whatever I want! And the old armour piercing system while complicated compared to rend was very logical in execution.

I agree, while I have not played a game yet only read the rules and have an understanding of how the game works and flows. that to me seems like the biggest miss for the game. The hero customization, the wizards being able to take specific load outs on units which makes them cost more. that is the one thing that feel less deep to me, I understand in a lot of ways why they did it... I mean it's easier and much more simplified, but I think I will enjoy the older way of doing it better when I get my LRL and start playing.

That being said, nothing is stopping me or anyone else build systems like that or play with an old world style magic system where you pool up a number of dice based on your wizards plus a roll.. if that is how your private group of friends wants to play.

  18. Thanks, @chumphammer,

I am thinking that we will probably be doing smaller armies like somewhere in the 500-800 point range to be starting, not sure if that is a good enough amount to get in a good number of units. I dont want to buy in to any army and have 90 models to paint including one or two center pieces. and I think that would probably just scare my wife away as a start painting and see if you like it. on the bright side it sounds like it would be a pretty decent army for me if she doesnt care for the game or like the army. I appreciate the candid response though!

  19. Good morning my fellow AoSers,

With the lumineth realm lords I am planning my re-entry into the hobby. My wife has also peaked a bit of interest into the modeling and painting and with that some possible interest into learning how to play the game rather than just hobbying with me, as she enjoys painting plaster houses I feel she will at least enjoy the assembly and painting portion of the game. We have discussed what aesthetics would draw her into an army to paint, and she has disclosed to me that she would be more interested in painting an army that is a bit more sleek and feminine, not so bulky and man-ish. DoK is the one army that came to mind, as it is almost entirely comprised of female units. Hell even the masculine units in the army do look more feminine and I don't think would be that much of a stretch for me to convert to being female.

I have a lot of experience with Warhammer 40k, and a decent amount of experience with the older WHFB but have never played AoS, not even with my old vampire counts model when they originally did the switch over. I cut my teeth in 40k with Eldar, and played a melee army when they were bad at melee in 3rd edition. Everyone told me I was playing them wrong, and I wasn't ever going to win, and with enough time and losses I figured out how to make a good aspect wind army that would actually preform well on the table top. I have no issues with loosing and struggling to learn a tougher army. I have no issue rolling DoK into a second side army (especially if my wife is still painting and modeling them) if my wife doesn't care for the game as a whole.

This leads me to my question for y'all. Is DoK a good army for someone new to the hobby to play? I dont think she needs the most powerful army on the block (not that I have any knowledge of which armies rank where in AoS), However is it pretty easy to understand and fun for a beginner to play and not going to be an uphill battle for her? I know the most important part of this hobby is do you like the look of and feel of your army. We wont be showing up at tournaments, it will be casual play more than likely between myself and her at our FLGS. it will also probably be the army I use to teach any of my other friends who might be interested in playing the game and I dont want to be setting them up for a confusing or bad start in a demo. Most people generally dont enjoy being face stomped in a demo lol! But anyway, sorry to ramble a bit, so how new player friendly is DoK? Thanks for y'all's time and helping a new AoS player.

I'd also be alright with them coming out with some sort of brand new "iconic" unit.  As in, a new unit that is unique to the Lumineth, but is the unit that really captures the essence of the army.  Now, I'm not sure what that would be yet, since we still barely have info on the army.

I think that GW will have an interesting balance in this army, figuring out them to be new enough and AOS-ey enough for new players but also nostalgic enough for old players.

Well, the models we have seen so far (except for Teclis) would fit right in to The Old World, providing they use the same scale.  Having re-based 200+ models already, I am not returning to square bases.  I'm not sure I want to return to a Rank and File game either, to be honest - AOS has a more free-flowing nature to it.  Rank and File, for me, would need to be10 mil or 6 mil scale for that truly epic (Napoleonic) feel.  But I suspect that would prove very controversial.

I can understand all of this. I hadn't played WHFB for a few editions, and stayed away due to lacking an Army I liked. I am excited about LRL and my entry into the game and re-entry in the hobby.

It seems fairly clear that the old High Elf models were not included in Cities of Sigmar because they would be too close to the Lumineth.  So the removal of the models could, in some cases especially with the more modern models, have been a temporary measure until Lumineth are released.  I'm not full of expectation, but I do think it is possible.

would be cool if we could use our LRL as an option for "9th Age" just magnetize bases. I do agree that a lot of the line could have been cut due to how similar they are. I also agree that I am not expecting much in that dept. I do also hope that we can ally and take phoenix temple cause having some phoenixes (not sure the plural) flying around would be cool.
