Biggest "wtf" moment for me was how Teclis just ended the Necroquake as if it were an afterthought. It feels like the writers ran out of time or something and just hamfisted the ending. It took Nagash millenia to craft his black pyramid and assemble everything for the ritual that would unleash the Necroquake. The skeletons carrying the gravesand walked that path for so long and so often, they literally wore down mountains! And Teclis undoes all this with a single rune, because new elves stronk.

Again: It feels cheap. That's a good summary of the book IMO. Death losing is ok, as well as Nagash getting his boney ass kicked. But it all should come at a cost! Like in Wrath of the Everchosen, where hordes of Chaos Warriors, Priests, Sorcerers etc. were needed just to stem the tide of Bonereapers and Nighthaunt. Here too, Death didn't achieve their goal of taking the Varanspire, but it felt like a hard fought "defeat" and not just a showcase for the other army.

It’s not “just“ though, Teclis prepared this for who knows how long. It ends in the the same ways it started - with a ritual. They just didn’t put as much effort into explaining every detail, but they say Teclis planned this for a while.

I agree partly though, it feels like they just ran out of space, and put this at the end, because they wanted to end that part of their storyline. I don’t think that has that much to do with the elves being stonk than with how they generally write sometimes.

I do t think it feels just as a showcase for Lumineth. Ymetrica is pretty much devastated, Cities destroyed etc. And the Lumineth didn’t get anything “real.” It’s all symbolic, or just story. There is no lasting presence anywhere outside of Hysh (like in Wrath of the Everchosen, or Morathi). I don’t mean this as a complain, but saying there is no cost at all is a bit overstated. What real costs did Morathi face? Or OBR for invading Eightpoints?

I think GW tried to include a bit too much, more focus would have been better. But there are a lot of good things in the story, and I really enjoyed the various talks between the gods. They also gave life to stuff like the Cathallar abilities and things like that.

  2. I think what you said I’d right above, just that originally the aelves were also found in other Realms, but then almost all of them went to Azyr. And then after the Age of Chaos back to where they came from originally (besides the ones that stayed in Azyr).

Lore-wise even the High Elf successors are still canon I think, but I doubt GW will do anything much with them at all.

  3. I played with 10 against a CoS list with some Stormcast. They do what you’d expect. 5 were a nice bodyguard for my Loreseeker, which was crucial for winning the game, but didn’t do much besides dying. The other 5 fought a bit - killed a Chariot in one phase, and 2 Sequitors in the next phase (the rest of the Sequis ran off from battleshock because my poor opponent rolled a six, and their bravery was debuffed).

They are a good bodyguard unit, but I don’t think they are better than either Warden or Dawnrider for offense. No spells, no Sunmetal ability, and no speed compared to Dawnriders. To be honest all their special attacks are kind of unnecessary. They are pretty boring or overly complicated without the normal interaction you have with all the other Vanari units.

On the other hand, what’s good about the Perfect Strike is its reliability, you know almost exactly what you can expect. That’s pretty good, and they have that over the other units which can be more swingy.

If you like them, you can make a few - like the 10 you mentioned - of them work just fine, they are good as bodyguards, and not useless in battle either. I think taking them as your main battleline isn’t really competitive, but will look great, and probably will be good enough for more casual games : )

Something hilarious that I noticed reading Broken Realms: Teclis is that in the Cities of Sigmar rules for  Settler's Gain, some of the artifacts they can take are lesser versions of Lumineth artifacts:

    Phoenix Stone => Heart Stone
    Silver Wand => Silver-Plated Wand
Blade of Leaping Gold => Blade of Leaping Bronze

Pretty on-brand for the Lumineth to give the human settlers second rate artifacts!

Edit: Also, all the spells in the Lore of Lumination are lesser versions of the Lore of Hysh:

    Solar Flare => Drain Magic
Protection of Hysh => Shield of Light
    Lambent Light => Illuminate

    Hilarious!

The Command trait (Raging Outburst) is in the same way, the general finally cracks under the constant lectures of the Lumineth (looks like even in battle there are some around who tell him what he’d could have done better), and goes full on berserk. : )

    It’s really thematic and fun.

You are all a stand-up group of pointy-ears for not mentioning the double Loreseeker boxes I have.

One day I will be vindicated.  If there is one thing I can count on, it is GW realizing they can make more money and going that route haha.

Use one of the Bladelords or Bannerblade’s open faces, and you can make a custom character out of him.

I had a game today where I tested the Loreseeker, and the Twins etc. The Loreseeker is really fun and basically was the deciding factor for the match.

  6. I spent my whole last month on painting Avalenor (and one of the LRL Endless Spells which I finished). He is a lot of work, and I'm still not done at all. Will take my at least a few more weeks. I'll also get my new models likely tomorrow, weee. So a lot to do. I hope this month I'll finish Avalnor and built/prime many of the new models.

What is the popular opinion about the whole alarith range? and the Lore of the Peaks?

They seems to see very few play.

So far Alarith-focused Ymetrica builds weren't as good as Syar and to a lesser extend Zaitrec builds. Too slow and lacking any protection against MW. But some mixed builds with Avalenor have done well. And with more units and the new Spell Lore we might see more of them in the future.

The Lore of the High Peaks has some really good spells: Crippling Vertigo, Voice of the Mountain, Unyielding calm, one good, but situational spell: Entomb, and two meh spells. All in all it's a good lore. Not as good as Lore of Hysh, but nothing to complain at all.

Very candid question : don't have you too many heroes in this list?

Do you have already a plan :  loreseeker setup, 1 wizard close to 1 bladelord unit (but to cast what?), why do you need casting bonus so much (zaitrec+stone)? thanks

I want to test as many of the new units as I can, and also based the list on what I have as reasonable stand in units. It's not meant to be a really competitive list. But, I do like mages, so I'll try to incorporate as much as I can. Bladelords - one I want to use more offensively to see how that works for me.

In Zaitrec, you can take a lot of spells, so there are many options. I also have 2 Endless Spells, so I won't run out of useful spells to cast. Cathallar, Twins have good Warscroll spells you want to cast whenever you can. The Zaitrec spell is also good. The Calligrave is a back up caster for Lore of Hysh so that most of my units can just cast PoH.

Twinstones are not really necessary, but with all the casters I have, at least my opponent needs to invest in one dispel, or risk not being able to interfere much with my casting phase. The +1 from Zaitrec alone is nice, but I still have failed a lot of spells, and my opponent will also have a lot of unbinds on hand because he plays Hallowheart with several casters. The Twinstones are by no means necessary though, you could speculate for a Triumph instead for example. But with that many casters - why not?  : )

  8. I mean, I'm not opposed to the Lumineth making even more of a splash, but wrapping up Soul Wars does seem to be pretty impactful to me. And GW had to give that role to someone, if they want to move forward, and not just forget about it, which happens often.

I've not read the book, but if I'm not mistaken, this should also reduce pressure on Order/Chaos/Destruction forces in all the realms, because some death factions have been severely weakened for a while, while others will be occupied with trying gain supremacy in Shyish. Which again can lead to all kind of unexpected side effects - something Alarielle hinting at.

Also - there was yet another plan from Nagash, which again would have pretty much destroyed everything, if he wasn't stopped. The realm of Hysh was disintegrating partly from effect originating from the Necroquake etc. Of course Nagash et al will be back in the end, but if that doesn't count neither would the newborn of Slaanesh, which was one of the major plot points in BR Morathi. Or her becoming a good, because she always was one, but in name.

In the end what will be more impactful depends on which strains they'll pick up and explore in the future. This could also include some minor ones from both books.

I wouldn't try to put them against each other, BR Morathi is a great read, and led to all kind of exciting possibilities. I'm sure, BR Teclis will be too, and both will be good in their own right. Both books seem to have a big impact on the story, as much as you can in a game like AoS. Yes, we know that Nagash and Arkhan will be back - but it will be interesting to see how they'll be re-introduced.

I'm super excited for the next entires in the series which it looks like we'll see very soon.

I cannot wait till I get some games in... or have time to paint my archers.

anyone have any practice games with them yet?

Not yet, but I'll have one on Saturday trying to get as many of the new units in for which I have reasonable stand-ins:

    Zaitrec

    Leaders

Ellania & Elathor (260) (using Eltharion model)

Scinari Loreseeker (160) (using Mistcaller/Cathallar conversion model)

    Scinari Cathallar (140)

Scinari Calligrave (100) (using Myari model)

    Alarith Stonemage (130)

    Battleline

    20 X Vanari Warden (240)

    10 x Vanari Warden (120)

5 x Vanari Bladelords (120)  (using Alarith Stoneguard model)

5 x Vanari Bladelords (120) (using Alarith Stoneguard model)

    20 X Vanari Sentinels (280)

    10 x Vanari Sentinels (140)

    Units

    5 x Vanari Dawnrider (130)

    Endless Spells

    Hyshian Twinstones (30)

    Sanctum of Anymtok (30)

    2,000

Eltharion doesn't really fit for the twins (base  size etc.), but I got the ok from my opponent, who is super nice anyway. He'll play a Hallowheart list, so it'll be a mage-off.

Very excited to these them out, especially the Loreseeker and the Twins.

Here's another bit of fluff I appreciate:

The Windmage's weapon is called an "Aspiragillum". That's a play on the words "aspergillum", which is a holy water sprinkler and the Latin "spirare" (to breathe), and "aspirare" (to strive). There's also a connection to asperitas clouds, since the Windmage rides on a cloud. I just wanted to mention this somewhere, because it's a nice pun that nobody would notice otherwise.

Obscure Latin triple puns? In my battletome? It's more likely than you'd think.

Oh, I only found the asperitas cloud connection after googling around a bit. Very cool, someone knows their Latin and had some fun with it. 👍

Not sure if this has been asked before... but is there any one who has made Cards with the Command Abilities?  Maybe similar to the cards that came in the Ltd Intro box?  I am hoping to get a wee bit more organized, and maybe remember all these dang spells, CA's, etc.  AoS reminders as an App is really great, but sometimes a card in front of me is better.  Kind of like what X-Wing and Legion do. I've included a pic of my Legion cards to give y'all an idea of what I'm hoping to find...... I'd be willing to print them myself of course...

AoShorts made beautiful cards for the first Battletome: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zgTfhnrwHDOpDXxBJkPjb6p4SkPvG7ki/view

They likely will update them at some point, but probably takes a while. The Lumineth army box also includes ability cards for everything in the first Battletome.

As a small aside, I like the difference in the artefact lists of the Lumineth Realm Lords and Settler's Gain, the Hyshian 1 in 4 Lumineth CoS city.

Where the Lumineth get the Silver Wand and Blade of Leaping Gold, the humans of Settler's Gain need to make do with the Silver-Plated Wand and Blade of Leaping Bronze. I think this is a cute way to show the relationship between the Lumineth and humans in that city.

The command trait Raging Outburst from Settler's Gain is pretty great, too, where your general gets +1 to hit and wound (and -1 to saves) because he flies into a rage from the constant supervision of the Lumineth.

One of the funniest command traits since a while. I also laughed, when I saw the wand and blade. Those are well done, you can see someone had fun with those.

Has there been any movement on color schemes for Aurathrai and Oultrai?

I don’t think there are any in the new Battletome. Judgin from all what I could see on the pages so far. The model photos show only a few pictures of the 2 new ones, and the paining guide hasn’t changed at all, they haven’t even updated it with Alumnia and Helon. In a few days some of us should have the Battletome in our hands, then we can confirm this 100%. It’s unlikely though that they are there.

That was the idea, yes. I’m hoping that we can play soon so i can test it out.
How’s your general feelings about sevireth? I personally think he’s quite difficult to play well and position well, but if you master his movement he’ll be virtually unkillable unless surrounded by long ranged, teleported units. And, if i understood it correctly the hurakan battalion makes it so he has always charged so you always pile in 6” and the enemy piles in with 2” less so it’s even more difficult to engage him.

Mind you - I don't have any personal experience using Sevireth yet, so please take this with a large grain of salt: I think you are right, Sevireth is difficult to play, and 300 points in one model. Even with the 5+ ward, a few unlucky rolls and he might be gone very fast against a many possible opponents. His damage output is good, but you could take 20 Sentinels or 10 Windchargers instead for slightly less costs. Of course he can do a lot of things the Sentinels/Windchargers can't. I think this is a model you have to try out yourself and see how well you can use it. It looks like fun if it all works out. Sevireth pretty much alone out on his own it likely a bit risky for 300 points. If you have access to TTS, that's a good way to try it out before you commit to anything (if you don't just like the model anyway :  ) ).

Honestly, I still don't know if I should buy this book based on the summary I've read.

Maybe the book is better than what reviews highlight and deserve to be brought, at least for a lore addict like me,  but... it's a GW book...meaning expensive, a lot of printing errors and bad translations. It's better now than what it used to be, but sometimes there is some "hiccups" even in recent publications. BR:Morathi was a pain to read because of those issues. And in the end, it's a gamble because it can end up being disapointing anyway 😄.

I think I'll take it, like I took Wrath of the Everchosen, reluctantly...I really hope the" Lumineth-are-so-over-the-top" trope is just in people minds. Only Space marines deal with a tremendous level of fanfic writing ...and it's really a shame for 40k lore. No hate for Lumineth tho, I would have said the same if it were Orruks instead (...or not, because Orruks are cool 😆).

You can have a look at the White Dwarf from February, even a WarCom article about that issue has a summary about the battles between OBR and LRL, except for the last part where Nagash attacks Ymetrica himself. There are no details about anything specific, but Nagash wasn't really faced by what the LRL did in Shyish. It even says he was happy because they didn't achieve very much, and he knew their capabilities now. The LRL destroyed a lot of stuff, but that was immediately replenished by the OBR and Nagash went on the offense right away - Arkhan destroyed cities in Ymetrica in return and the LRL had to start to burn their own dead to somehow stop the advance. This part will likely sound pretty desperate for the Lumineth. I've also not read the full story obviously, but it doesn't sound like it's only LRL winning all the time.

From the summary, it seems to me it's very much like BR Morathi, Morathi/Teclis basically achieving what they want, with a narrative caveat/Damocles sword hanging over them which GW could use or not at some point in the future. And both causing unwanted side effects (Slaanesh/freed Death factions). I can't really see a qualitative difference to BR Morathi from what I've heard so far.

So, if I were making this list, how would you guys go about adding in a battalion? I posted it a couple pages back and I agree that it’s not the most competitive list, just curious about battalions. I can’t quite fit one in and keep it looking as cool haha. (I’m a weirdo)

    Heroes

    • Light of Eltharion, Warden of Tor Yvresse (220)
    • Lord Regent Syrielle Nobleheart (150)
    • Calligrave Ninathar (100)
    • Loreseeker Salendti (160)

    Battleline

    • 20x Wardens (240)
    • 20x Wardens (240)
    • 20x Sentinels (280)
    • 10x Dawnriders (260)
    • 5x Bladelords (120)

    Other

    • Ballista (100)
    • Ballista (100)

    Endless Spells

    • Sanctum of Amyntok (30)

    Total Pts: 2000

That looks like a nice, thematic list! I don't think you need a battalion for this. I forgot how the Bladelord's one is worded, but it might not be applicable anyway (need 2+ units or something). And even if, with only one unit, that has to be charged, and by something where you wouldn't use your auto-hit attack, it's not useful.

Even for the additional artifact. And you can't reduce drops in a meaningful way. It won't matter normally if you have 11 drops or 8 to 10. If someone has a strategy to auto-drop you, they can easily do that anyway, and if not, it doesn't really matter.

So, i’ve never actually had the chance to play with or against lumineth due to italian local gaming stores being shut down since november but how could a double battalion list (alarith temple and the bladelords one) work alongside sevireth who essentially is the only super mobile threat? Thank you in advance

I think no-one can tell you for sure. It does sound like a workable idea, but you might have to adjust it a bit (maybe add the Windmage with teleport spell to have more mobility etc.

I really like the idea of a Vanari focused army is the only thing. But I’ll be testing them out anyway, my brother plays Ossiarchs, who we’ve struggled with having so many stacked armour saves and ways to revive, so we’re hoping Lumineth will be the answer to some even games between us haha.

But yeah I think a focused Alarith/Hurakan list will also be quite fun down the line when I have more money haha.

That might do, OBR struggle with MW, so probably you two can fine-tune it over time. I think if you do not roll out 60 Sentinels and shoot everything down T1, this might be interesting. He also has there option to go Null-Myriad to throw in a wrench into all your magic shenanigans. Might be fun in the end!
