  1. This is an old thread, but I found it on Google so others probably will too. This is the best thing I've found so far. Designed specifically to be similar and compatible with the original Warcry Starter Set terrain. https://pandorasbox.gumroad.com/l/FantasyRuins
  2. No Contrast on this armor! I used this Jack of Clubs How to Paint Raven Guard video as a basis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLF7buMfyLQ I ended up going through 4 or 5 test models of "hmm could use more/stronger highlights" until I was happy. In the end the highlights look way too strong right after airbrushing (had a small panic attack after highlighting 15 guys this way), but the wash at the end brings everything way down. 1. airbrush prime Vallejo Surface Primer Black 2. airbrush base Vallejo Game Air Black (in case I have to do any touch-ups) 3. large airbrush highlights of Vallejo Game Air Sombre Grey 4. smaller airbrush highlights of Vallejo Model Air Light Blue RLM65 5. edge highlight Vallejo Model Air Light Blue RLM65 (they don't make a non-air Light Blue RLM65) 6. heavy wash of 100% The Army Painter Dark Tone (this really helps to tone down the highlights and smooth the transitions) That's it! There is a little bit of skill involved in the airbrush highlights and the edge highlighting, but it's mostly just technique/recipe!
  3. Here's a collage of the aforementioned Chaos Warriors. My first squad finished after a 20 year break from Warhammer! 😳 And for those who're interested, here's the complete album link (same as previous post about gloves) https://steamforge.net/photos/index.php?/category/18
  4. New sculpts are mostly metal with a few leather. One is a leather glove with a metal guard on the back of the hand. Old sculpts are all leather. I JUST finished painting and photographing my Chaos Warriors. I'm missing 3 of the new sculpts but otherwise you can see high res photos of the new and old sculpts. Metal is black, leather is brown. The guy with the horn had a left arm swap. His sculpt would typically have a metal glove on his left hand. https://steamforge.net/photos/index.php?/category/19
  5. Now that Gaunt Summoners only summon 5 Pink Horrors (instead of 10) I have a question. Since the warscroll says 1 in 10 can be a Hornblower and 1 in 10 can be an Icon Bearer, does our unit of 5 get to contain those command models? I've checked the Core Rules and Eratta. It seems like a common scenario, but I'm having trouble finding commentary on it.
  6. I don't think so. However you can find them parted out on eBay pretty frequently.
  7. Taking into account the Warrior's base they look to be about the same height as the Warriors. Really a perfect fit! They look better in your pics than on the Mantic site! I'm guessing it's mostly a higher res pic of them spread out on 25mm bases instead of packed together in a low res photo.
  8. Those look good! Do you have a pic of the next to Chaos Warriors or a Chaos Lord on Foot or something for size reference?
  9. Duh yeah. I meant 90mm base. Thanks for the reminder.
  10. I also just got excited about the Legion of Azgorh Forgeworld model Shar'tor the Executioner and just want to paint him because he's so cool! (reminds me of a Warcraft Pit Lord). Started considering how I could use him and noticed we can't ally in Legion of Azgorh (but they can ally in StD!) (Edit: I learned that basically nobody can ally in LoA) Lame (even though he probably wouldn't synergize that well). I'm thinking about trying to mount him on a 120mm base and running him as a Slaughterbrute or putting him on a 120mm base and adding big wings and running him as a Chaos Lord on Manticore. Maybe seeing it he'll fit on a 90mm base and running him as a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak (but I doubt he'll fit). https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/Shartor-the-Executioner-FW
  11. I was just getting excited about an all cavalry army and started wondering "why the heck don't they have a Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Demonic Mount" and then was even more disappointed to see that the pre-Battletome warscroll for the Chaos Sorcerer Lord allowed for a Demonic Mount! Those dorks! https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Warscrolls/aos-warscroll-chaos-sorcerer-lord-en.pdf
  12. I ended up adding 5 old Warriors and 5 old Knights and using them for Musicians and Standard Bearers. I wrote this little article showing how I did magnetization and command models. I showed a few examples of conversions of the arriors to Musicians and Standard Bearers. I'm still working on the Knights but I magnetized all their weapon hands too and you could easily make them instruments or banners. The easiest would be to slap a pennant/banner on a vertical lance and glue a horn to the back or side of another model. When I finish my Knights conversions I'll update the article and post back here. https://steamforge.net/wiki/index.php/Age_of_Sigmar:_Slaves_to_Darkness:_Start_Collecting_Box_Magnetization_%26_Conversion
  13. That's the important part! 😜 If you do have them, and you're willing to part with them please send me a PM.
  14. I know most smart people are going with Ensorcelled Weapons on their Knights. Well I think Lances look cool hehe. Does anyone have a spare set of Cursed Lances from the newer Age of Sigmar: Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting Box, Chaos Knights? I have 5 "old" knights that I want to equip with matching Lances.
  15. This has been covered a few times in this thread. I'd go back and search for more detail. But there are some minis from other manufacturers that have been mentioned. As for GW: Bloodreavers and Kairic Acolytes are common suggestions. I personally like Bloodreavers the best.
  16. Could someone help me out with the dimensions on the Disc of Tzeentch that comes with the Gaunt Summoner on Disc? I'd love to get the diameter of the disc with and without the blades. Check out the image below for clarification. Thanks in advance!
  17. Here is an awesome (Stonehorn + Warshrine) Warshrine Conversion that I plan on totally, shamelessly, copying. I don't really like the derpy mutants on the stock warshrine. Note that the image below is actually a video of the shrine rotating so, if you like it, I recommend you click on it for a better look.
  18. A few people (myself included) have discussed magnetizing Chaos Warriors, how to get a Musician and Standard Bearer into the new 2019 Start Collecting monopose guys, and the head size comparison between the new and old Chaos Warriors. I've finished the modeling/converting/magnetizing of my 15 man Chaos Warrior squad (10 new, 5 old) and have written up an article with a bunch of photos to help others. Here is a link to my article with the full description and lots of high res pics. https://steamforge.net/wiki/index.php/Age_of_Sigmar:_Slaves_to_Darkness:_Start_Collecting_Box_Magnetization_%26_Conversion Spoiler alert: Bloodreaver heads (plus some knife work and green stuff) work well as Chaos Warrior head replacements. I'll update the article and post back once I've done the Knights. See below for some teaser photos. The 1st pic shows (from left to right): a new Warrior with his stock new head, a new Warrior with a Bloodreaver head, an old Warrior with a Bloodreaver head, and an old Warrior with his stock old head.
  19. I've have good results removing iconography from other models using an exacto knife, small files, and some fine grit sand paper.
  20. I haven't executed it yet, but I plan on replacing the horny head with a bald head and greenstuffing a hood/cowl onto it. I don't care for the stock horns/nose/mouth.
  21. Do remember that each Leader can only summon units once per game so 3 leaders means 3 turns of summoning (which might be fine).
  22. Hallelujah! I haven't war gamed in 15 years and am just getting back into the hobby. The internet didn't really exists when I was playing before. I bought what was cool, I equipped it with the cool guns, I tried to follow a bit of a theme and I had a blast. I also painted to make some cool squads and didn't know enough to get hung up on a bunch of advanced techniques. As I got back into it a few months ago I started try to "think" competitively and I also started to obsess over figuring out everything (painting/modeling wise) before I started my 1st guy. It kinda drove me crazy and I had to relearn "the rule of cool" (that I had never heard of as a 15 year old but innately understood). I think I'm back on the right side of the coin. I'm building an army that is based on my understanding of the rules and effective synergies, but I'm focusing on what's cool.
  23. No need to reinvent the wheel... this is what AoS Statshammer is for... https://aos-statshammer.herokuapp.com/ Pure averages show that the sword outperforms the axe regardless of save. But, as everyone is saying, the axe is more consistent damage and the sword is swingier. You can tell the sword is swingier because the axe does maximum 6 damage (3 attacks * 2 wounds per attack) and the sword does maximum 12 damage (4 attacks * 3 wounds per attack) aka double or 100% more max damage. Therefore to have averages as close as they are (the sword does 17.7% more average damage than the axe assuming you fight an equal distribution of save values) with double the maximum damage it must be doing less than damage than the axe on many occasions.
